The Blue PointObx faveIt's rare to be able to categorize a restaurant as kid-friendly and romantic, but this fits the Not only is the food one of a kind, but the staff is genuine and friendly and really nice to kids as well as adults! My mother is a vegetarian and the chef developed an amazing dish for her. All of us ordered something different and loved it! This was our second year ending our trip at the Blue Point and it will continue to be a tradition for our family.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great dinner a Blue PointWe think this is 25+ after 15 years going to northern OBX. Service always terrific and food is wonderful; usually some unexpected accents. Really love the outdoor bar and sitting area on the sound; perfect for sunset viewing.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLove it!We come to Duck for a vacation every-other year, and we ALWAYS stop at Blue Point. The food is fantastic and it has a lively ambiance. They just recently added a new outdoor bar overlooking the sound--perfect for a drink and sunset watching before heading in for dinner!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways greatGreat food with beautiful view of the sound. We make reservations every time we come to the Outer Banks. Never disappoints!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Giant ChangeFrom talking with our waiter, we put together that we had not eaten there for 8 years. The last time we ate there it was a "quaint" hometown restaurant with excellent food and moderate prices. It is now an upscale, trendy, modern, place. The prices reflect the new atmosphere, but we thoroughly enjoyed our food and evening.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMObx favWe come every year with the same friends while we are staying nearby. Love it! Great food, reasonable prices, friendly servers. Wine list is a little pricey but not surprising.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous restaurantWe have been visiting OBX for more than 20 years and the Blue Point remains our favorite restaurant. We love the local atmosphere and the fact that they use local foods..... fresh fish and veggies from the area. The flavors of everything they prepare are perfectly blended, exquisite. Kudos to chef and staff for a consistently wonderful experience!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely dining on the SoundI have been to Blue Point several times and this time did not disappoint. While the menu is limited, the way they pair the componenets of the meal is always outstanding. It can be a surprise to the palate but always wonderful. Great place on the Sound in Duck, NC, great views, and always warm and wonderful service.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA real catch!Really enjoyed this restaurant and our dishes! I had the soft-shell crab appetizer - the best I have ever eaten! Great whiskey sour as well! Our waiter was delightful! Beautiful view of the sound and the setting sun - would come back in a second! Delightful atmosphere - friendly and elegant at the same time..relaxed, yet also lovely..key lime tart - excellent - and came looking like a picture out of a Gourmet Dining magazine..never felt rushed..we had reservations - good idea..the restaurant fills up! I would definitely return!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat as always. We have beenGreat as always. We have been enjoying meals at The Blue Point since 1990--one year after they opened in their original spot with all of the wonderful neon signs. We love the tables by the Sound where you dine while the sun sets. Priceless!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent anniversary dinner!Despite our many visits to the OBX we had never been to the Blue Point. A friend recommended it, and we decided to give it a try to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We arrived well before our reservation time and expected to have to wait since it was quite busy, but they managed to seat us within about 10 minutes, which was nice. My wife got the tenderloin and I got the fish special, both of which were very good. However I have to say that it was the pecan pie that stole the show! Overall we had a fantastic time and will definitely be back.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointed!Always creative, fresh, delicious food, great wine list, ambiance and sunset view of the Sound -- one of the best restaurants of the OBX!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways awesome.Once again, The Blue Point delivered. The specials are always the way to go, in our opinion, and Wednesday was no exception. The soft crab was huge, perfectly done and delicious. The tortilla Soup was fantastic, They do soups like nobody's business. The Veal Chop was perfect, and we took the bone home to my vizsla who consumed the remnants of meat then consumed the bone, too. All in all, another 10 out of 10 for this exceptional restaurant.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is an excellent RestaurantThis is an excellent Restaurant offering both local seafood and other fare. The views of the sound are stunning. We go here every time we visit the area.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat views, great foodWe requested a booth by a window so we could watch the gorgeous sunset over the Sound as we dined.
The hoisin-glazed ribs were meltingly tender and generous, offset by Napa kimchi, which was a perfect foil for the rich rib meat.
Blue Point Grill's signature crab cakes deserve that moniker, made with sweet lumps of crab, little filler and a nice crust, and sit on little pools of a bright, piquant watercress sauce.
My husband's double cut pork chop was done perfectly and still pink in the middle (the only way to go!) and the accompanying mac and cheese gave hints of heat and grainy mustard in each bite.
We shared the evening's dessert of Southern poundcake (moistened with simple syrup?), lemon curd, strawberries and fresh whipped cream.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best in the Outer Banks!Never disapoints. Consistently first rate. If visiting OBX you must eat here at least once.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous ServiceThis is a favorite spot of our and for the first time, on a little vacation, we brought our 4 and 10 year old (who behaved well, thankfully!). Our waitress was lovely--saw they were quite hungry (a beach day) and immediately brought out bread. When I explained that my one daughter was a vegetarian she came up with different dishes the chef would make. We all had a lovely dinner and had perfect seats for the sunset!5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLocal food in a sunset viewThis is probably our 10th time at Blue Point. Over the years the food is consistently well prepared, changed often enough to maximize on local NC seasonal produce and fish and well, just delicious. Sunday brunch is also fun!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA Tradition in Duck, NCEvery time I'm in Duck I eat here at least once. The Southern food is always comforting, and the long-time staff always recognize us and make us feel at home. The Blue Point has a special vibe that makes the whole Outer Banks experience unique.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExtraordinary coastal diningCreative menu, fine regional and local ingredients, and a skilled team make The Blue Point a destination for extraordinary food. These folks know their way around the foundation of excellent North Carolina cuisine and the chefs exercise imagination and skill in executing a fine dining experience in a relaxing and comfortable setting with great views and ambiance. Don't miss this interpretation of shrimp and grits, any use of local seafood along with delicious salads and sides. The strawberry and rhubarb cobbler paired with a lemon buttermilk ice cream was a superlative offering from the talented pastry chef. The flavors are elemental, relying on ingredients of the highest quality. Can't wait to eat there again!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWant there for our 25 th anniversarWant there for our 25 th anniversary. First time there. Loved it. Will make it a point to go there each time with are in OBX from New Jersey.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMBest food on the Outer BanksWe had dinner and lunch at the Blue Point. Both meals were great especially lunch. Best soup and grilled cheese ever. Also had a sword fish that was special.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWy wife and I anjoyed an outstandinWy wife and I anjoyed an outstanding dinner (trout special and short ribs) Saturday night, and our server Mark was outstanding (as always).5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood but not as good as it was.The Blue Point was always "the" place to eat in the northern OBX with no real competition. Back then, it was practically a hole in the wall with maybe 10-15 tables and outstanding food. Now they have expanded into a relatively large restaurant and, while it is still considered by many to be a "must" restaurant in that part of the universe, increased size almost always means decreased quality and Blue Point is no exception. The food is still good but no longer outstanding. Reservations may be difficult to get, but no longer impossible. And the competition for restaurants is plentiful, e.g., Elizabeth's, Roadside, Metropolis, etc. It seems as if the best reasons to eat at Blue Point now are the view and nostalgia for the good old days.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOur yearly pleasureThe four of us have been dining there once a year since the Blue Point opened & we have been vacationing in the Outer Banks for over 30 years. Our server Bruce remembered us from last year and previous years. The service was exceptional, the soft shells as wonderful as the 2 who order them regularly remeber and the deserts were fabulous although we didn't need them.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat birthdaywe came on my birthday. this is the 3rd time we have been here and it is always great5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointsEach year, when we come to the Outer Banks, we look forward to dinner out at Blue Point. Every year we have a fantastic meal, and start making plans for our next visit.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways good! The Blue Point is my favorite restaurant on the Outer Banks. The food is imaginative, superb and consistent. The sound view is gorgeous, especially for sunsets.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis mother's day dinner wasThis mother's day dinner was a gift from my boss because we are working on his beach house. My daughters are at home in Virginia so he wanted to make the day special and really recommended this restaurant, especially for the sunset which our reservation made it perfect timing. I felt in every way pampered by our waiter Bruce and would thoroughly recommend this restaurant not only for the ambience but for the excellent dining experience.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFine dining for locavores in OBXLove this place!! Absolutely charming restaurant--warm, intimate, excellent service. Nice view of the sound, and a well-paced meal--you do not feel rushed, the food is amazing. This visit, had the oyster stew and pickled shrimp as starters--wow! As always, the scallops were divine, as was the Mahi Mahi special (There was also a veal chop special that sounded wonderful). The pecan pie as always was perfect, but the strawberry-rhubarb crisp with lemon buttermilk ice cream had me considering licking the bowl clean. Easily the best restaurant in OBX.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AM40th anniversary dinnerWe got to Blue Point early and took our drinks outside where we sat at a soundside bistro table. When we went in to our table, we were pleased to see that we had a waterfront booth, and although it was dark by then, it was still one of the best seats in the house! Our servers were friendly and attentive, and were very apologetic when one of our soups was missing a key ingredient (crab). It would have been nice if they had "comped" the soup, but they did treat us to dessert since it was our anniversary. The food was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant and are looking forward to going to Blue Point again. By the way, Blue Point was recommended by several friends of ours on the Outer Banks, and we are so glad we took their advice!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great experience. We've been coming to the Outer Banks for over 3 decades. Since we first experienced the Blue Point it has bene our favorite place to dine and the major reason we return to the Outet Banks in spring and fall.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as Always! The Blue Point never disappoints! The meal was fantastic -wonderfully prepared. The service was spot-on for dinner. Our server was very knowledgable and agreeable to those in our group that had special ordering needs. I highly recommend it!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMContinues to be excellentContinues to be excellent in every way and very responsive to special requests.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have frequented The BlueWe have frequented The Blue Point on our annual OBX visit for a number of years and have always enjoyed the food and service. This visit was no exception.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I recently ateMy wife and I recently ate at the Blue Point on our anniversary. The food, as always, was top shelf. Service was excellent and we were extremly impressed that they not only recognized it was our anniversary but offered to seat us at the same table we had on our anniversary last year. This attention to customers sets the Blue Point above all others. We will be back and recommend them to anyone looking for a great dining experience on the Northern Outer Banks.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPerennial Favorite.Consistently very good, with a great sunset over water and friendly but efficient staff.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to The Blue PointWe have been to The Blue Point 3 times in the last 2 months, having just bought a home in the area. The food and service is always great. We have never had a bad course there. Last week when we ordered a $60 bottle of wine they brought the wrong vintage. When the server checked, she came back and said they were out of the vintage on the wine list but would substitute a better wine ($17 more)for the same price. Who does that? Our only problem is the prices. I know it is a resort area but it kills me to pay $11 for a salad. If you know that going in, you will have a fantastic meal. Love the bar too!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the Mountain TroutWe had the Mountain Trout and it was very salty which I was not expecting. There was live music and rather loud. All in all the meal was good just not one of our betther dining experienes at the Blue POint. Server was great and attentive.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite spot in the OuterOur favorite spot in the Outer Banks and it did not disappoint !! I enjoy that they utilize locally grown veggies & fish. Their dishes are very creative and wonderful. I always have a great meal and love to take "out of towners" to this location.
The view/ambiance is out of this world, sunsets that are spectacular.
Great wine choices.
Terrific staff that have been with the restaurant for many, many years. Service is excellent!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlwase a great choiceThe Blue Point has significantly expanded their wine list including plenty of relatively expensive choices. The food was excellent as it always is.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe wait staff is excellent,The wait staff is excellent, very accommodating. They swapped out a spicy side for the best tasting grits I've ever had. The Rock fish special was excellent. The desserts were top-notch. Great views for the Currituck Sound3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional, yet dependableWe make it a point to dine at the Blue Point one to two times every year when we are in the area (typically for one - two weeks).
