Diner Reviews
  • "Once again, we were blown away with the Blue Point.. The Beet Salad with Goat cheese was delicious as were my wonderful Scallops with roasted Cauliflower. The North Carolina trout was superb.. Of all the restaurants we have dined in, Chris Queensbury was the best waiter we have ever had. It was our 30th Anniversary and it couldn't have been better--from the champagne to the scrumptious Pecan tart for dessert. Thank you Blue Point"

  • "Imaginative and delicious, with emphasis always on local and seasonal ingredients, the Blue Point is never disappoints. It's one of our favorite Outer Banks restaurants! The seared scallops with pork belly were heaven. "

  • "We've never had a bad meal or experience at Blue Point. Blue Point is always part of our yearly OBX vacation. The food is exceptionally fresh and the chef is always happy to customize the meal."

  • "Blue Point is always a treat as the food, ambience, and service are outstanding. Flounder was superbly done and the pasta dish was great. We always make reservations as even on as Thursday, off season a Blue Point is crowded. Highly recommended."

  • "My sister, husband and I dined at Blue Point because it was recommended by four locals and without the silly, "where do locals eat?" question for which tourists are so famous! From the seating overlooking the sunset on the sound, to the mature waitress who helped me (Alzheimer's caregiver) get a discrete glass of wine (husband can't drink) to the amazing fresh catch flounder, my needs were carefully choreographed by a sensitive waitress, accommodating bartender, superior chef, and fine evening out! As a caregiver, dining out can be a chore wondering what social hassle I will face. My husband was at peace, commented several times how lovely, peaceful and special the restaurant was, and we all shared a fun and unusually interactive evening!"

  • "We always come here when in the area. Tonight it was Duck "ham & eggs " to start and a stunning huge pork chop. Took half home for next day. Pecan pie with bourbon ice cream for dessert. Wonderful evening. Others had crab cakes, nice rare tuna. All great. Service was attentive, friendly, informative."

  • "We have been to Blue Point many times and it never disappoints us. The chef has added several fantastic seafood dishes such as tuna, scallops, and rockfish. You will not be disappointed!"

  • "On the Outer Banks, the. Blue Point is still te best for creative food with a southern feel. Every dish has a bit of the south in it. Grits with melted Gouda, Benton's bacon in its salads, and the list goes on. We having dining here for years and it never disappoints. We generally dine here in the off season because reservations are so hard to get in the summer. Last fall we tried the bar menu and it was great!!! Drinks, small apps and a glass of wine with some seared scallops - wonderful casual meal."

  • "We were delighted by Blue Point. The ingredients in every dish were incredibly fresh, the preparation and presentation were impeccable. Everyting was cooked perfectly. I'm a pastry chef, and the desserts were as well-executed as the rest of the meal. The wine list was imaginative and extensive. Our server, Felisha, was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful. We waited a few minutes past our reservation time to be seated, but that sometimes happens and was no big deal. We were rewarded for our patience with a table with a gorgeous view at sunset, which was a terrific bonus."

  • "This is one of the top dining facilities on the beach.. If not THE BEST. Consistently great food, big variety, great service , great atmosphere. We have been coming here for over 20 years and never have been disappointed. We treat ourselves , we take our family(adults,) we take our friends. Would not suggest it for children. Our only complaint is the prices are a little high .. And reservations can be hard to get ."

  • "The Blue Point is our favorite restaurant at OBX. Our dining experience there this time was really disappointing. We were seated right next to a very noisy birthday party. The Blue Point staff did nothing to try to control the noise. It would have been better to have been seated elsewhere in the almost empty restaurant. The oyster soup was so very salty both patrons who ordered it had trouble eating it. The southern salads (pimento cheese, ham salad, and egg salad)were good and very creative, as was the bbq tostada. Otherwise, the food was very ordinary and average, except for the desserts. They saved the meal. The staff was preparing for Taste of the Beach and seemed rather distracted so our service was spotty at best."

  • "Very reliable, great service but the prices keep going up, on par with Washington DC prices but at the beach. In the off season it is quieter but definitely need reservations as the months warm up. In the summer, plan on going to the outdoor bar before dinner, it is a lot of fun. Can't wait to return, but $9 for iceberg lettuce does seem excessive."

  • "Don't miss this one! From the time you walk thru the door until you walk out your experience is exceptional in every way imaginable!"

  • "A fixture on the northern end of North Carolina's Outer Banks, but you never know if the place you loved last summer will survive intact to the next season. Cooks come; cooks go. The Blue Point manages to be the exception and, the moment, it's hitting on all cylinders. Looking back over the past 35 years or so, you wonder how a place -- meaning the Outer Banks -- could be surrounded by water, with tens of thousands of well walleted-people descending upon it in the warm months, and yet produce so many astoundingly mediocre seafood restaurants. That appears to have changed in more recent years. The Blue Point is a case in point. It's delightful."

  • "We have been coming to Blue Point for years and years. Our current visit was not the best. It is off season on the Outer Banks and thus the restaurant was not crowded. The food was great, the service not so much, which we couldn't understand because they were not that busy. We waited for water, waited for wine and the waitress seems rather indifferent to us. Of course, we will be back but hope not to have this experience again!"

  • "this is a difficult restaurant for those with food restrictions. I don't eat meat and I can't eat gluten. First of all, almost everything has some sort of pork product, from bacon, to ham to pork belly. Anything that didn't have pork had gluten even the salmon dish was marinated in miso. I finally persuaded the waiter to allow me to have a scallop dish without the pork belly which turned out to be very good. This wouldn't be a good place for vegans or vegetarians. But my husband loves the food here, the sunset view is spectacular and the service is always excellent. Time, however, to add some alternatives to the menu"

  • "A favorite of ours and took relatives who were visiting. They loved it and talked about sharing it with others. The food was exceptional - as usual. Our selections were - catfish, pork chop (huge), beef tenderloin, sea scallops and iceberg wedge salads. Yum. We always asked to be seated in Mike's section. He is knowledgeable of the food and the wine and a all round great guy to talk to. He is always Johnny-on-the-Spot but takes time with you. Highly recommend this venue for a nice, relaxing dinner."

  • "Terrific food --- the scallops are very tasty, and the Creme Brulee is always a treat. Service was superb, thanks to Christy, our server. And the sunset over the sound was very nice. I can't think of a better way to enjoy dinner in Duck!"

  • "When the weather is cold and the wind is blowing, dining is still delightful at the Blue Point in Duck. The menu is chock full of local ingredients, including seafood, which was the highlight of our winter dining experience. This evening we both ordered the special, which was flounder, lightly broiled and served on a bed of brocolini and vegtables. Blue point easily made a couple of menu adjustments for my dietary restrictions and the resulting dish from the kitchen was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is warm friendly and intimate and the service is excellent. But the quality of the kitchen keeps us coming back every time we are in Duck. Lunch or dinner, you can't go wrong choosing the Blue Point."

  • "The food at Blue Point is always wonderful, every time we go. This time, we had crab cakes and the flounder special with pork belly. It was so good!! We finished it with a brownie and coffee ice cream - the perfect way to end the meal!"

  • "Dinner at the Blue Point was great as always. I started with the excellent oyster stew, followed by a scallops and pork belly entree, and then pecan pie with cinnamon ice cream for dessert. The service was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Great atmosphere with amazing views of the Sound. Others in our party had the beef tenderloin and the pork chop. All were excellent."

  • "We were glad to have a table at the window with a view of the sunset on the icy sound -- beautiful. The service and food lived up to all the positive reviews we've read. The waiter was good enough to arrange for us to share the soup special (delicious) as an appetizer. The cold weather seemed to bring out a nice crowd, and the atmosphere was friendly."

  • "Had dinner on 1/21/14 with girlfriends as part of an annual trip to Pine Island. Blue Point never disappoints. Service was prompt, friendly and professional. Food was creative and used local, winter ingredients. My mushroom tagliatelle was earthy and creamy....could have eaten two plates."

  • "We had a great dinner at the Blue Point last week. We took a chance to come down to the Outer Banks over the holiday weekend and it didn't disappoint. The food was great and they accommodated my 6-year old with his own lunchbox. The atmosphere was great, the food was very good, the sunset was amazing, and we left very happy! It was a night to remember. My husband had the trout and I had the mushroom soup and the beet salad. I normally think every dish is completely over the top outstanding but while I love beets and apples, this one was a little plain but it could have been because I ate it after the fantastic mushroom soup which had a lot of flavor. All in all a great meal!"

  • "Have been coming here for years. Was disappointed with the food. Ordered crab cake that was served over smashed up black Eyed Peas and carrots. It had no taste. We were cramed in the front section near the door. It was so noisy I could hardly hear our own conversation and it was just my husband and I. Also it was cold. Very Expensive!"

  • "Blue Point in Duck, NC is the best restaurant in the area. Food is always great. Good wine list. Sunset over the sound makes the ambience romantic from a window table. The restaurant is upscale, but not pretentious. Food is presented with nice flair and color, AND is always very well prepared, hot, and specials are unique. Service is excellent, but friendly and not overbearing. Blue Point is consistently great on quality, yet price is only slightly above the average restaurants in the area. As a resident in the area, it is our favorite and has been for years."

  • "2nd time diners at The Blue Point. Atmosphere great, service was exceptional. The food this time was just regular and very salty. Most items on the menu had some type of ham in the recipe which made many items taste the same. Appetizers with sarrano ham and entrees with country ham were too similar and too many on the menu. The saltyness was too much for the delicious seafood. I will again go back, because the service was fabulous. I just hope they take the salty ham off some items on the menu."

  • "Been around for a long time. Dependably good but heavy food. Wish there were some creative, delicious vegan or vegetarian (without heavy cream, butter, cheese) options. Two fish dishes that are not weighted down with pork and dairy would be nice."
