A word from The Blue Pig Tavern
The Blue Pig Tavern serves American cuisine-nostalgic, simple and fresh. Executive Chef Jeremy Einhorn has implemented a delicious farm-to-table menu featuring fresh produce, herbs and eggs from our very own Beach Plum Farm, located less than 2 miles from the restaurant!

In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.

  • Fun place, great food!

The restaurant was larger than I expected, with two indoor dining rooms, an enclosed porch and a large outdoor seating area. It was fall and a bit breezy, so we ate inside. There was lots of activity with people walking through the rooms, even a hotel tour gathered at one point. We went for lunch, but when we saw the brunch menu, our selection changed. The Eggs Benedict were served on a cheddar scallion biscuit instead of the traditional English muffin, and what a difference that made..simply delicious and prepared perfectly! Our servers were friendly and served at a liesurely pace, though I suspect in the summer it might be more hectic. Nothing was overlooked and afterward we all talked about how much we enjoyed the experience.

Me and my husband went there for dinner one evening. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, we start with an entrée of scallops which were very delicious. We both ordered one of their blue plate specials. Not a shortage of food.

I went to the Blue Pig based on reviews I read. The service was adequate but not up to expectation. The portions were on the small side especially for the price that was charged. I do not mind paying top dollar but $32 for 6 scallops borders on gouging. Everything is al la carte so a salad is not included. I had a cocktail that was more mixer than alcohol. Is the food good? Yes. Don't go hungry because of the small portions. There are too many restaurants in the area to even think about returning to the Blue Pig anytime soon.

  • Cape Must - not May

Appetizer of homemade nachos and guacamole was very good. Entrees we ordered were swordfish and mama meatloaf. The swordfish was cooked to perfection. The meatloaf was good, but was missing something. Cannot put my finger on it. Wine list was adequate, our chosen Pinot Noir was very good. For dessert, the key lime pie is a must, while the pumpkin cheesecake was a bit dry. The noise level was a bit too much, a little more than energetic, and the table set-up make it a bit cramped. Our server - whose name we did not get, was phenomenal. Will say for Cape May the prices were reasonable, and well worth the visit.

From the hostess to the meal - everything about this place was mediocre. Inconsistency in service and in the food. Hot fish, cold fries. Salads were overdressed and coyingly sweet. I picked out a 1/2 cup of dried cherries in my salad and pieces of butternut sqash still had skin on. Dim lighting, corner seating, had to use iPhone flashlight to read menu.

This was our first dinner experience at Blue Pig. We were seated immediately and the server was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was incredible but it took a long time before we were served. However, the restaurant was mobbed with over an hour wait if you did not have reservations. The restaurant, though lovely, is so loud. You couldn't hear the server or your companion. You needed a flashlight to read the menu as it was so dark. Even young people couldn't read the menu. We have had brunch and breakfast there on other visits and everything was perfect so I found dinner a little disappointing.

I had been to the Blue Pig Tavern for breakfast previously and thought my Mom & I would enjoy a “comfort food” dinner here. What I didn’t plan for was that a Saturday night on a beautiful weekend would have the place super-busy and loud, making it difficult for any kind of conversation. In keeping with the classic tavern feel, the room was quite dark which was unexpected and quite challenging to read the menu or even see our food. Despite that, the food was of great quality and taste including fresh baked, hot bread; fresh Caesar salad, and the best calamari I have ever eaten (crisp, light, tender!). I would revisit the Blue Pig again but would probably go earlier if dining on a Friday or Saturday night.

The blue pig is our stand-by place when we want home style cooking. The chicken noodle soup is home made and fantastic. The chicken main dish though was dry. it is kid friendly so if you are looking for a quiet dinner this is not the place, even off season, especially with the increasing number of bridal parties having dinner there, they must be going to the Boiler Room down stairs after to party.

We were happy with the food selection, presentation and taste... we were NOT happy with the service. Though our waiter was very nice, he was overwhelmingly slow. This wasnt during the height of "the season" either. (End of September, on a Thursday, and the restuarant was half full). for a table of 5 looking to have dinner and a drink we were there for 3 HOURS! Our drinks would be empty for ages before he would come back. The restaurant itsself was very night, cosy lighting, the booth was a lovely dark table with loads of room for food AND friends.... would return, but would request a different waiter.

My husband and I ate at the Blue Pig Tavern for our anniversary, and the food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and unique. We had a great time drinking wine and enjoying each other. We started our meal outside, and when it began to get a little chilly out waiter offered us a seat inside for dessert. Outstanding place in Cape May, we will be back:)

Cute name and cute decor but you are going there to eat. Food was cold, I had pulled pork sandwich, not really good cold. Waiter never came after food was delivered to see how everything was. When he finally came we were finished and let him know about the food, he sent over the manager. He was very sympathetic and comped the drinks ??? We had tea. Very odd. He should have fed us for free. Will no go back or recommend. Also witnessed birds eating off uncleaned tables outside while people were eating at neighboring tables.

Have been here a few times and have always been pleased. I had the pappagalle bolognese. Pasta was overcooked and very limp. Sauce needed more flavor or some flavor! I left half of my plate, which I never do. My husband had the crab claws which were fine and the shrimp and grits. Our server disappeared for long periods of time which was bothersome.

The restaurant seems like a nice enough place located in an old hotel with lots of charm and plenty of outdoor seating. Outdoor seating is on gravel which is a bit uncomfortable. I was surprised to see how many children where dining. Some well behaved some not so much. Ultimately the food and the service let me down. I had the "Steak and Cake," i.e. steak and jumbo lump crab cake. The steak was an over cooked piece of dry sirloin that could have been purchased at your local Sizzler and there were no lumps to be found in the crab cake. The waitress was difficult to get once I wanted to pay the check and get out of there because I was tired of the kid throwing food on the ground at the table next to mine. I don't recommend for the price.

We brought guests here twice in one week. Everyone loved the ambiance of Congress Hall- the attention to detail from the polka dot dresses to the blue pig napkins. The tavern menu has something for everyone. My son ordered the hangar steak and he said it was done perfectly and would order again. The pot pie special was wonderful and at the scallops appetizer was a winner- 2 large scallops cooked perfectly and sweet. The peanut butter pie was voted the best dessert. My only complaint was the patio was very dark for our 8 pm reservation.- the table candle was inadequate.

Love the focus on locally sourced ingredients, and for the most part, the execution was great. The service was pretty solid even on an incredibly busy night, food came out fast, and we had a great time. As far as the food itself goes: skip the deviled eggs--the beet and goat cheese was just not well done. The scallops app was very good, but the entrees were what really shone. The pulled pork shepherd's pie is worth going back for on it's own, and the swordfish was also very good, if that's more your thing. All in all a great place for date night, for a fun, solid meal, especially if you're into clean and local eating.

After a slow start everything was fine. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Entrees were creative and delicious, leaning heavily on their local farm and exceeding expectations for what otherwise appeared to be a colonial tavern. My wife had been here before and returning for my benefit was a very good choice.

BPT is normally an excellent experience all around, except for out last visit on August 28, 2014. We made reservations through open table about 3 weeks in advance and were told when we got there that our seat was going to be in the atrium area between the hostess stand and kitchen, we felt like we were in a zoo. We waited 20 minutes before I had to flag someone down to ask if we were going to be taken care of and when we went to order were told they ran out of what we wanted to order 15 minutes earlier. The food was not as good as it normally was either. The saving grace is that they ended up moving us after we complained. Over all, this was the worst experience at BPT we've ever had and have been coming here for years.

This restaurant is a classic neighborhood restaurant . The food was well prepared and delicious. As far as service , we were seated and were given menus and bread with no side plates. It took ten minutes for the waitress to come to our table to take our drink order. I felt that this was too slow. I'm not sure if she had a big table that delayed her or not. She was very sweet and polite. This being said, I would recommend it to others.
