A word from The Blue Pig Tavern
The Blue Pig Tavern serves American cuisine-nostalgic, simple and fresh. Executive Chef Jeremy Einhorn has implemented a delicious farm-to-table menu featuring fresh produce, herbs and eggs from our very own Beach Plum Farm, located less than 2 miles from the restaurant!

In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.Continued

  • "Wonderful place, wonderful food. Can be a bit loud with kids around the holidays, but get in there any other evening for a great, relaxing dinner."

  • "Food was not at all what I expected. The mac & cheese was good, but the steak was terrible- fatty and low quality. Not at all worth the cost. Service was slow, especially since we were one of about 4 tables there at the time. I would recommend only if you're staying at the hotel and using a voucher. "

  • "Enjoyed a lovely dinner in this charming, loaded with character restaurant. The Blue Pig is located in Congress Hall in the midst of all the action in awesome Cape May. The food was delicious and the service excellent. A definite place to check out!!!"

  • "We took advantage of the offer which was in the Cape May Herald offering dinner for two for $35.00. Always a good meal for the money. Need to offer another selection other than ice, cream for dessert. Problem for customers who are lactose intolerant."

  • "this was the second week our food took an hour to get to the table. waitress was attentive telling us she has checked on it. No reason this should happen at the prices they charge"

  • "Went over St.Patrick's Day weekend and had a delicious Reuben and some pretty great Captain and tonics :-)"

  • "food choices are narrow with several repeat mainstays. menu has not changed in years and needs to be overhauled. Head chef and kitchen are capable of great food so they should be given chance to explore. Hamburgers are great and reasonably priced as well as meatloaf and fish and chips but other dishes like the crab cakes seem to be very overpriced. We wish it would try to be more daring with it's specials. However, there was something for everyone. Service has always been very good. In season the outdoor dining is a nice relaxing spot."

  • "We have been eating at the Blue Pig for years and its always been our favorite restaurant in Cape May because we are assured of great food in a great setting. With the real wood fireplace in the winter to beat the chill and the porch for summer and fall dining to enjoy the weather, it's always a joy for us. Thereof nothing better in the winter than a Blue Pig dinner sitting by the fireplace. Our meals have always been outstanding, whether we have the hearty meatloaf or vegetable pot pie or the filet Oscar or linguine and clams. The service has always been great, even in the chaos of summer. We look forward to our next Blue Pig visit."

  • "This cozy restaurant never fails. During this long, cold winter we have often dined at the Blue Pig because of the food and warm atmosphere. The service is always competent and comfortable."

  • "We stayed at congress hall and we dined 3 times at blue pig tavern, once for dinner and twice for brunch. It was an awesome experience all three times. We had dined at blue pig tavern several months ago and we enjoyed it so much that I felt it was the perfect place to propose to my (now) fiancée. We had the evening shift manager, Amanda, film the proposal and everyone was so nice and polite. The entire experience could not have gone any better. Thank you Blue Pig Tavern and Congress Hall for making this the greatest weekend of my life and thank you to my Kimberly for saying yes to my marriage proposal. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "I would say a perfect place for a week end getaway...Relaxing fun atmosphere, inviting bar environment with cozy tables and sofas....friendly servers, great wine list.... Live music is always a plus this way you can hang out after dinner.....which we really enjoyed doing...."

  • "The food was absolutely spectacular. The restaurant is right off the main drag running along the Atlantic Ocean and right in the heart of Cape May. Once inside Congress Hall it can be a challenge to find if you don't know your way around, but well worth it. It has an old world ambiance with simple but elegant decorations. The few is nothing to write home about but the food makes up for it. It is a bit pricy, but the food is high quality."

  • "Interesting appetizers make for a delicious dinner of small plates, or for heartier fare try the pot roast. Everything we ordered was great, especially the pan seared scallops with parsnip purée...can't wait to go back and have them again."

  • "We are regulars our server Julia was so very nice & thank you for having the small bottle of Veuve Cliquot using the opentable app on our way from PA made it so easy!"

  • "Way too much garlic in their food! Dinner was really bad. Waitress brought wrong wine and was annoyed when we pointed it out. Very slow service."

  • "Great for a quiet Sunday night and comfort food, after a discounted Belvedere martini in the Brown Room. Tremendous Trinity Oaks Pinot Noir for only $8"

  • "Came to Cape May for some R&R, chose Blue Pig for casual dining and eclectic menu. We started off with some house specialty drinks - the Blind Pig and a Blue Pig Martini. For dinner I chose the Blue Plate special Fish & Chips. Th meal came with their soup of the day which was 'Beef Stroganoff'. The soup was interesting - a lighter take on actual beef stroganoff - but not great. The fish was lightly battered and fried, not greasy at all and very mild haddock flavor. I found it very tasty. The fries were plentiful, but not as crisp as I like. My wife ordered the duck special and it was delicious. Served with risotto and vegetables the dinner was very satisfying. Overall it was the exact dining experience we were looking for."

  • "My wife, son and I enjoyed a late Friday dinner and couldn't have been more pleased with the service, food and overall ambience. We dined on oysters and deviled eggs for appetizers (sounds strange but really should try). We had shrimp and grits, mushroom risotto and the kids burger for dinner. All were prepared as requested and tasted fabulous. Very timely waiter made both wine and beer recommendations that were spot on. Congress Hall is such a historic locale and Mathis restaurant is a fantastic compliment."

  • "This was our 2nd dinner at the Blue Pig. The service was good, but the food slightly overpriced and just not too good- bar food at best. Maybe if we had a burger? The steak was overdone, mushy vegetable with the fish. The salads were nice and fresh and generous. It is very noisy so hard to talk. WE LOVE the Brown Room for cocktails and the Boiler Room for music/ late night but we will have to dine somewhere else."

  • "Poor food, too dark, a table the size of a living room end table. Unatttentative and slow service. WAY overpriced. Ballpark beer prices."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "It was a very nice restaurant. We sat by the fireplace and enjoyed the Victorian surroundings. They had a small but a nice beer list and was told by the waiter that draft beers would soon be added. The food was pricey but enough was served to be worth the money. Service was a bit slow but we weren't in a hurry. My steak was slightly overcooked but was edible. Her salmon dish was not good. She said it was like they put a piece of fish on top of pot roast. The garnish clashed with the fish. The experience was nice but would not go out of my way to return. So many other restaurants to spend $150 in and get better."

  • "My husband and I dined at Blue Pig Tavern on Monday, President's Day, 2014. I had the stuffed french toast. I love sweets, but this was too sweet. It had strawberries on top, but also strawberry flavored mascarpone stuffing. It was VERY sweet. My husband had the corned beef hash breakfast. It was fresh and delicious. All in all, our breakfast was quite tasty, and I would return to The Blue Pig again for breakfast. Also, it was fun to walk around the lobby area and hallway of Congress Hall, after breakfast, and read about the hotel's history."

  • "The Caesar salad was dank and drenched in dressing, everything was overly salty, the service was lackluster. Over-priced as well. We won't be back. To top it off, I got an email from Open Table saying that we hadn't kept our reservation. Believe me, I wish we hadn't."

  • "We had a wonderful experience, as always, at The Bue Pig. Great Food, got the seat we requested (by the fire place) excellent server (Patty). We miss the filet, but the steak frites was outstanding! Oh, the tart, to die for!! See you soon as we purchased the 20% discount dining you recently advertised. Lyn"

  • "Service was slow and unfriendly! Food was lukewarm and plating was not exciting! My entree was the worst salmon with a mush of veggies with no taste ! Not to mention server never returned to the table to follow up on our food! The plates were never cleared until the server brought the check! I have always wanted to visit the Blue Pig to fine and I was very disappointed! Sorry but I am a foodie that loves great food!"

  • "Came to Cape May a day early to avoid a major Ferbuary snow storm and the Blue Pig was one of a few restaurants open for dinner. It, like the town was practically empty. The room was so dark we had to use flashlights to read the menu. The waiter was attentive, but failed to deliver. For example he stopped to say, "I'll be back to refill water glasses" no less than 4 times and never did. The food was poor to average and, for some entrees, oversalted. Finally, for a night with few tables filled it took an hour to bring 6 entrees to the table. Nothing about this experience says we should rush to return."

  • "I'm sure that eating outside would be delightful, however it was 20 degrees when we were there. What impressed me most was that even though the Hotel was not full, and there were only a few diners, ALL of the tables were set with candles glowing! It made for a beautiful atmosphere with the fire roaring and the tables lit in the soft candlelight. It was quite a wonderful evening...and the food was delicious. The starters and appetizers were interesting and we decided to make a meal from them. We look forward to going again."

  • "We arrived in Cape May late Friday for a mid-winter get-away. The Blue Pig was a great way to start the weekend. A nice wine list and even better beer selection allowed us to decompress from fighting traffic to get there. The PEI Mussels appetizers with sausage was outstanding. The rainbow trout was very good and NY strip good. Service was very good and ambience great. We enjoyed an after dinner drink in the adjoining Brown Room at Congress Hall, listing to a small jazz band. The room was full but not overly crowded and was most enjoyable. The Blue Pig is among our favorite destinations when in Cape May, anytime of year."

  • "Another great restaurant in the Cape May area, in a very special historic location. Have a drink in the Brown Room before or after dinner. I especially enjoyed the steak frites. Nice choice of wine and beer as well."

  • "We always enjoy our time at the Blue Pig. The organic, fresh produce from their farm is certainly a plus! We love their outdoor seating in the warm weather and their fireplaces in the winter. Bar is pleasant and a must do for us but can become hectic with the wedding guests. Comfort food is done well as is the fresh seafood. Apple pie is amazing!"

  • "The Blue Pig Tavern was a wonderful spot for dinner in Cape May in January when most restaurants are closed for the season. The food was yummy and the crackling fireplace added the perfect touch to the cozy dining room. I've been there for breakfast in the summer and was glad to find that dinner was just as delightful. The service was wonderful, attentive and friendly."

  • "The restaurant was very quiet due to being off season. Waitresses were excellent and food and service exceptional. Having sat next to a warm fireplace added to the evening. Highly recommend."

  • "Whether dining outdoors for lunch in the summer, or indoors for a fine dinner any time of the year, this place is great. You can also just stop for drinks at the bar and soak in the history. We've been here several times and have never been disappointed. It's located in the heart of Cape May, at the sound end of the mall, and provides good food and service in an ambiance that makes Cape May special."

  • "Loved the atmosphere of this tavern. We sat by the fire with drinks which added to the experience. I had the beat salad and added the grilled salmon. It was terrific and filling. My husband had the burger, which is house ground and prepared. Topped with the local egg, he was very pleased. The placements all spoke to the history of the restaurant. After we could't help but find ourselves at the gift shop buying an ornament with a " Blue Pig" to remember this outing."

  • "This is the third time I have eaten at the Blue Pig and it is always a pleasant visit. The servers are nice and the food is good. They also have some very tasty cocktails (also at the adjoining Brown Room cocktail lounge) and a great craft beer list."

  • "I have been to the Blue Pig previously and have been pleased each time I go. Tonight we drove past a few of our usual stops when we visit Cape May, but most were closed for the season or the recent winter storm, not sure which. The Blue Pig had plenty of availability and hit the spot with regard to food and beverage."

  • "Wonderful charm, great food and fun atmosphere! This restaurant is in the Congress Hall Hotel and its just a fun scene! We stopped for some drinks with live music in the Brown Room (The Blue Pig was passed the Brown room) Our service was really good and the restaurant had a rustic feel to it! We will be back every time we visit Cape May!"

  • "The garden salad is always crisp and fresh with a light vinagrette. The French Fries are salted too heavily and butter tastes like butter has been added."
