A word from The Blue Pig Tavern
The Blue Pig Tavern serves American cuisine-nostalgic, simple and fresh. Executive Chef Jeremy Einhorn has implemented a delicious farm-to-table menu featuring fresh produce, herbs and eggs from our very own Beach Plum Farm, located less than 2 miles from the restaurant!

In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.Continued

  • "We sat outside which was lovely. The food was good, not great. Roasted tomato and squash salad had 3 cherry tomatoes and 2 pieces of zucchini, drenched in dressing. Scallops with beer risotto was pretty, but had no seasoning. Cocktail was great. Service was great."

  • "We were promptly seated at our reservation time. The service and food was very good, but the atmosphere was not. We were in the main dining room, and it was chaotic. There were multiple tables with families and the parents could care less that their kids were acting like untrained animals. It would have been quieter at the zoo. If I was the proprietor of this restaurant I would have asked the rude crew to respect the other diners and teach their kids how to behave. I might of lost a family as future customers, but I would have kept many others. Don't think we would return here. There are LOTS of great restaurants in Cape May that aren't part of a "family resort"."

  • "We went in a group with 6 adults and 3 kids under 3....the service was excellent and we arrived to place settings for the kids with crayons, paper kids menu to color, and cute Blue Pig plastic cups with straws. That's always an initial plus to lure the kids into their seats. The menu was diverse and had several items I pondered over and ultimately suprised myself with a chicken dish that was excellent (I normally would steer away from chicken & try something more unique but this dish with the sauteed red cabbage and spaetzel caught my eye and besides the chicken being a tad dry, was really flavorful). The other notable thing is the location being in Congress Hall and there being lots of distractions if you need to get up with the kids."

  • "I had heard good things about the Blue Pig but did not experience them during my lunch there. Food was not special and not prepared with any attention, the tomatoes were bland. Come on, this is New Jersey, the tomatoes should be fantastic.t. Did I mention that service was lackluster, only saw the waiter when he took our order, which he got wrong and when he served us the bill - did not ask if we needed refills on our drinks or whether everything was okay - had to ask for napkins and then did not get them quickly. When we gave him our credit card, he walked around the restaurant with it in his shirt pocket. I expect more from Congress Hall. Get it together please."

  • "Food was very good. Disappointed they had to swap brussel sprouts with braised cabbage, which I can not recommend. Waiter was slagging a bit behind. Another couple near us was not happy but we didnt mind. Time to sit back relax and enjoy the lovely location."

  • "We had a Friday 8:30 dinner reservation. At that time the restaurant was 70 percent filled. The service started out well with good server attention. After that the service was very poor. It took over 75 minutes to get out food. At one point the server said it would take 1-2 minutes for the food to come out and then it took 20 minutes. There were long periods of not seeing our server for 20-30 minutes at a time. Water was not filled, a request for a Diet Coke took 20 minutes. There was no attention paid to us gor additional drinks. Finally - after dinner I had to get up and flag down the server to get my bill. Overall the organization was poor. Our server had multiple tables spread out which led to poor attention. There was No busboy also."

The service was professional and pleasant, but our one complaint is that our entrees were incredibly SLOW in coming, causing us to miss out on some planned after-dinner beach time. But we hope this was not typical and plan to return again."

The service was good inside of the restaurant. The service outside of the restaurant on the patio, however, was atrocious. I hear it's good for brunch, but dinner was abominable. Do not recommend."

  • "We went to the Blue Pig and asked to sit on the porch. We were promptly seated and ordered hummus (delish!) and some drinks. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. We just got burgers as we weren't too hungry. They hit the spot! It's a little pricey but we are used to NY reataurants so pricing is comparable. Come here for a low key dinner with fresh ingredients!"

  • "Fabulous! Never ever had a bad meal here. From the staff to the food it's always 5 star all the way. Sheer perfection!! To start we ordered the Blue Pig Pale Ale. Very good. My wife ordered the salmon and I ordered the swordfish. Fantastically delicious!! For dessert we both ordered the strawberry shortcake. Heaven on earth!! Fantastic!! Highly recommend the Blue Pig Tavern to any and everyone I know, and even those I don't"

  • "Very disappointed with the quality of food with this being a restaurant in a high end hotel. Had crab cakes that came out deep fried and had a lot of filler. Mashed potatoes were lumpy. Best part of the meal was the wine. Many fine restaurants in Cape May, this is not one of them."

  • "Reservations for 7:45 and seated immediately. Outside dining was delightful due to a tall privacy hedge surrounding the tables and wine is affordable. We had two appetizers, both nice and fresh - half dozen littlenecks - cold and small - and deviled eggs with a surprise twist nicely done . Winner of the evening's meal were the scallops (which were an appy - doubled as the dinner) seared to a lovely caramel color served over an unusually delicious - and different - beet and leaks risotto! One shared dessert was the flourless chocolate cake (tasted like a fresh, moist, fudge brownie) with vanilla ice cream - my only complaint is not enough of the ice cream. An uplifting Cape May experience."

  • "i do like the blue pig for a lot of qualities including a good selection, farm freshness and good ambiance not to mention good to great service. however, i've been served sub par food on two separate occasions hence the 2 stars, after many good meals over the last couple of years. once I was served a quiche at breakfast that was obviously from the previous day. I was offered no apologies, a switch to a differ entry and charged full price. This last time I was with a large party for dinner and my seafood with penne was sub par as such: seafood was good, 1 bad mussel, and the penne was over cooked. I didn't have nice round tubes, instead i had strips and pasta that was squished flat, a sign that it was not prepared a la carte."

The service could be a little better (no complain, but for the price the service is not there). But overall the food and decor cover this."

  • "I sat for a while before anyone appeared. Finally a waitress asked if I had been helped. She took my drink order and went to find my waitress, who was very attentive after that. My drink was wrong, as was my first course (which could have been miscommunication because it was very loud). The inside dining room was so dim you could not read the menu or identify your food when it arrived. If you need more light, ask for a table on the porch. The clam chowder and shepherds pie were both very good."

  • "We loved the seating and vibe at Blue Pig....but sadly after we ordered drinks and meals, it took half an hour for our app then another half hour for our dinners to arrive. Our dinners were clearly sitting under the warmer, you could tell just by appearance. We did tell our waitress who said the kitchen was backed up, but obviously they should be used to a packed dining room in the summer. Would return to give if another chance, but was very disappointed."

  • "Sat down and ordered, also ordered for 2 small kids. Scrambled eggs and bacon. 1 hour later the waitress comes out and apologizes for delay, and says the kitchen ran out of croissants for the breakfast sandwich, and waffle mix (for one of the kids). 1 hour 45 minutes some of the food was delivered to the table, kids still waiting for scrambled eggs and bacon. after adults ate breakfast and many complaints later, the kids dishes finally arrive. Additionally, the dishes looked rushed and were missing pieces. To make anyone wait that long for breakfast, and kids be served last is ridiculous. We frequent this property often with out of town guests, and were saddened and embarrassed at the terrible experience."

  • "Everyone liked the food in our group but two of us that had burgers were blown away. Absolutely outstanding gourmet burgers! We waited for a long time for our food after we ordered it. The drinks and appetizers came fast, and then about an hour after ordering our food the main entrees came. Someone (the manager?) came to apologize right before the food came out, but they did not give us anything else. Not even a free glass of wine."

  • "I had high expectations for Blue Pig since we have hoped to visit on other trips to Cape May. Everything being a la carte made it pricey, sitting outside on the patio and paying $210 for 4 people who had 1 or 2 drinks, seemed a bit high priced for the experience. The food seemed "pre-made"; or upscale diner food, it was tasty, but was just "ok" by no means did it feel like a $200 meal. I had Shrimp and Grits, and had one piece of sausage in my entire dish, while another person in our group had the same with lots of sausage, which shows lack of attention to detail in the kitchen. Again, just not what you expect for the price paid. Finally the service was good, efficient, but bland. In a town with great dining options, this was just ok."
