That was absolutely NOT the case at The Blue Ox!
Took my mother and aunt and we were greeted warmly, and seated right away. Service was attentive (team of three worked together beautifully) and the food as good as I've experienced there previously. They did offer a special menu, 3 course prix fixe, with great variety for the first and second courses, and 2 delectable desserts. They had the asparagus/tomato salad (tomatoes were amazing), I had an excellent tuna tartare. Entrees were filet mignon done to perfection and cdelicious pan seared cod. The place is very kid-friendly since its fairly loud, has a small kids menu and an accomodating staff. The service is fast and very attentive. We were not disappointed! We were late due to traffic and downpours but had called ahead. At first I was worried about noise level but we were led into the main dining area and that was much better. Our server was prompt and friendly, checked in enough but not intrusively. Really appreciated her asking if we were planning on going to show so the chef could plan accordingly. Our food was delicious and they try to use local sources as much as possible. Nice cocktails, addictive butter (drop of maple syrup added!) and really good coffee!

The other times we had gone it was VERY loud, we had to almost yell at one another while having a conversation. They have fixed the problem the best they could and it was much easier to carry on a conversation. We had fried pickles (great) and crab cakes (so-so). Cocktails were good. For our entrees I had the halibut with duck (EXCELLENT!!) special and my husband had the hanger steak (always done well). We tasted a habanero beer which was very interesting and surprisingly tasty. Though a sip or two was enough. Could never have had a full glass. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable. There are many choices on the menu with dollar friendly prices and a variety of select wines. Variety of people enjoying a friday evening with laughter & smiling faces around the bar.
One person in our party needed to alter her entree because of food issues. Our wait person accommodated her easily & politly with a 'no problem' approach. How refreshing.
Overall, the service was superb!! Our Reservation, done on-line, was returned promptly with a phone call confirming our reservation.
A side note: The Blue Ox is just a few walking blocks to the Memorial Auditorium.

The service isn't great by American, rush you out the door standards, but I like a place where I don't feel like they are just waiting for me to leave.
