Diner Reviews
  • "Great spot, great food and available parking for a busy downtown! Oysters were marvelous and the fish was fresh."

  • "Food was good..not great. Noise was too overwhelming even with the front open to the street. Waiter was a bit cocky and disinterested. Was recommended by everyone in town. We were there for a conference."

  • "I ordered an oyster appetizer from the feature menu (I can't remember the name of it), it was the absolute best oyster dish I have ever tasted! I took a picture of it and I NEVER do that!"

  • "this was the best tasting food outside of New Orleans barbecued oysters were delicious and the gumbo was excellent! the service was great and will definitely be back. it was my Anniversary and my wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. The drinks were very good too. Parking can be tight but the valet was very helpful."

  • "we had a large group for dinner and were sat promptly at a table that overlooked the shopping strip. Definitely the beat restaurant in the area and a nice , well priced wine list. My ribeye steak, yes I ordered steak, was out of this world and perfectly cooked. my associate had the snapper and loved it too. I will definitely be back!"

  • "The crab cakes and jambalaya are the best we have found anywhere. Service was perfect and the place is always packed."

  • "Blue Fish is in a great neighborhood and looks great. We were a party of 4 and seated in the 'quiet area'- we could hardly hear ourselves! Our friends across the table had a conversation - not whispering- but we could not hear. Waiter blamed on happy hour, but noise did not diminish. Worse was the service. Waiter took appetizer and drink order but not entrée- we had to tell him we wanted to order. It was at least an hour to receive them- he said they had a banquet which was the issue. A manager came by to apologize, so I asked for more wine. He offered a bottle which shocked me. Out entrees arrived (good, not great), we finished and still no wine. After we finished, 2 glasses delivered!"

  • "The atmosphere was different, part of the dining room was fully open to outside, but it was such a nice night and the weather was great it didn't bother us. They were backed up with big parties but the server was extremely nice and the food was well worth the wait. We plan on coming again for a nice evening out."

  • "Had Friday night reservation and we're seated immediately. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable however The food arrived lukewarm at best. We ordered the whole red snapper and it was deboned at the table. But once eating, full of bones. Also got the cobia in a spicy sauce which probably was really good but again not hot. Portions seemed small for thirty a plate. The food tasted fine but certainly not worth what we paid. The atmosphere was enjoyable and we sat near the open sliding doors with a great breeze floating through. I had two bar drinks and they were good but again not worth ten dollars a piece. Also after ordering the second drink, the waiter forgot about it and had to reorder 10 minutes later.Had fun but wouldn't be back."

  • "I was looking forward to the shrimp and scallop mac n cheese. It had a strange after taste and I wasn't overly wowed. I did enjoy the crab bisque."

  • "We were in Jacksonville for Business and extended our stay to both escape the polar vortex and enjoy another could of days of fresh seafood. The Blue Fish delivered completely on that second point. Great menu, great food, great wine list, great service and a very nice evening out. Tory was our server. He was very knowledgable and helpful on the menu choices, especially on the oysters. We also met Richard, the chef/owner. Great guy! Very caring of his customers. For a great dining experience in Jacksonville, head to Blue Fish."

  • "A very nice secluded off the beaten path place to eat. I like the option of having a table indoors or outdoors, at the bar or a private table."

  • "The Blue FISH is a MUST VISIT. My wife and I planned a progressive dinner date for 4 of our very special friends. Cocktails at 7:30 at Brick Restaurant, 8:30 Dinner at Blue Fish, and Dessert at 10:30 at Biscotti's. Within minutes of arriving at Blue Fish, our party of eight was seated in a cozy table fit for 10. (plenty of room) Our host and wait staff were extremely accommodating. The wait staff immediately took our drink orders (never missed a beat). Not long after drink orders we ordered appetizers. You have to try the Oysters half/half (oh so good). Dinner arrived about 10-15 minutes after we completed our appetizers, allowing the group plenty of time to chat. Really a SPECTACULAR dinner spot."

  • "If you have never been to this neighborhood gem it's a must. I don't live in the area but drive the 20+ miles for some amazing food. Brynch is a great occasion and with good weather people queue up for the outside tables. Dog frendly outside, they will supply your baby with water and cook some treats for them if requested."

  • "8 of us on a not crowded Monday night and the service was sketchy at best. We met and tried to get a drink outside while we waited for the rest of our party. The service was extremely slow, not only getting to us but once we ordered our drinks as well. One of the ladies ordered a Pina Colada and was told the blender was broken.. ok ... my ketel on the rocks with a lime came out with Rose's Lime juice in it. umm NO. The waiter was either new or just extremely nervous. Either way I give our outdoor experience a 3 out of 10. We then moved indoors for our meal and ordered quite a bounty. This was a business dinner so the orders were plentiful. It was quite apparent that the waitress was more interested in pushing drinks than food. ."

  • "This was the first time my husband has eaten here. I go all of the time with my girlfriends. I took him for Valentine's Day and he loved the food. We are going back soon for happy hour. We are also planning on going with some friends for for his 50th birthday."

  • "Had a nice visit with my wife on Valentines day, the place was slammed but that was to be expected. They have a private valet parking lot, which is rare and nice in the crowded Avondale restaurant scene. Food was amazing, wife had the crab legs special that were delicious! I had the coffee rubbed ribeye, one of the better steaks I've had in town, proving this to be much more than a seafood restaurant. We will be back again for sure!"

  • "Took my wife and daughter for Valentine's Day. Food was very good; however, we chose the restaurant because the online dinner menu showed the option of small or large portions of the same entree. That makes for a good fit, when you have two ladies that aren't big eaters. At the restaurant, the menu we were given only showed standard/large entree portions. When asked about the change, our server indicated the restaurant removes that option on holidays and busy nights. Doesn't leave me with a good feeling about the venue when they choose to change their pricing model on high demand nights. Do the Jaguars raise prices when the Seahawks come to town? Needless to say, the Blue Fish won't be top of mind in the future."

  • "With advanced reservations were seated in a horrible location. Could hardly speak it was so loud and the final blow was that an 18% gratuity was forced on us and we were only a party of two"

  • "I had booked a table for 2, weeks in advance of Valentines Day. I noted it was our 18th anniversary and I wanted a romantic table. Sadly we were shown to their overflow catering room complete with families and children. I asked our waiter to please move us as this was not what I had bothered to make a reservation for. He came back shortly and told me they could move us but it would not happen for another 90 minutes. It was then that I decided to leave. As We were leaving the manager asked where we were going. After explaining that besides V-day, it was also my 18th anniversary and their choice of table for us was unacceptable. The young man asked if I would consider a table upstairs. This ended up being perfect for the occasion."

  • "We went in on a busy night almost every table was full and had great service from our waiter Don. Excellent ribeye steak and the freshest oysters we've ever had. Going back next week."

  • "We had fish chowder and red snapper...the whole fish and in a curry. Both were excellent. The server filleted the whole fish, but it was done in a very clumsy unappetizing way. With a little training, this could be corrected. The server's attitude was friendly and his service was good otherwise. The food was so good, we will be back."

  • "Tried a new dish tonight- 1/2 Heartland Chicken. Yep Chicken in a Fish Restaurant . Delicious! Prepared with a light Moroccan Rub. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside . Served with Rice and Stewed Eggplant. An amazing dish, created right in the kitchen of the Blue Fish! Followed up dinner with Homemade Apple Pie and ice cream . Impeccable service, wonderful atmosphere created a delightful dining experience. Would highly recommend."

  • "Read other reviews, so we expected greatness. Food was better than a chain restaurant, but not recommended for a dinner with quiet conversation. It was noisy and our service was not attentive, and our food took a while to arrive. It did not seem that busy, for such delays and lack of wait staff attention. We will try Blue Fish again, but with a more casual expectation in mind."

  • "Blue Fish is the neighborhood place to be and to be seen. Great street strolling observation though over crowded dining was hectic and slow. Large window table attendees were surely less than enthused when server was so cramped she spilled an entire tray of mimosas down a gentleman's back and onto the legs of next table diners. Orange sticky yuk."
