Diner Reviews
  • "Sat at the bar with one bartender and a full bar. There were 6 waiters at the hostess stand doing nothing (waiting for tables) but we had to wave our hands to get service."

  • "The sushi is wonderful. We look forward to every visit here. The service is great - very efficient and friendly. We love this place."

  • "Blue fish is a chain and this spot delivers - great spot before movie next door (Sundance) or at an event in the bayou music center. Seared tuna sushi is fabulous."

  • "This place may be a victim of its own success. The food was great, but that was about it. Very crowded, people hanging out the doors. Waited in line 10 minutes just to tell them I had a reservation. Took forever to get served. Food came out in the wrong order, and before my drink. They just couldn't get it together."

  • "We were celebrating my husband's and a friend's birthdays. The food and wine were delicious. So were the desserts. They didn't offer anything special for their birthdays, though."

  • "we were in the theater district for the opera and were looking for something new close by. We found Blue Fish and thought we would give it a try. We are very glad we did! Our server was polite and knowledgeable. Fresh delicious seafood served quickly and with a smile. Just across the street from the Wortham center and two blocks from Jones Hall, Blue Fish has the proximity of location and quality of cuisine that is lacking in so many of the other places in the area. Definitely try it!!!"

  • "We visit Blue Fish when we go to the theater district. Great food, service, always ready to seat you with your reservation."

  • "They were able to accommodate our reservation early when we arrived. Our server had great suggestions for signature rolls, the Rainforest was very tasty. Also the Lobster Roll was excellent. The manager and server were very attentive and we had a great night out, even with a group of 6."

  • "Eat here regularly and the sushi is always fresh, tasty, and the service the best. It's conveniently located to the theater/arts district and since it's open late, you can eat after the show if you'd like."

  • "Food and drinks were good. We asked to sit outside since it was a nice evening. Apparently, no one told the wait staff we where out there. When our waiter finally came he said, "I didn't know anyone was sitting out here." Other than that everything was good."

  • "The Blue Fish is a great choice for the food, service and proximity to the Theatre District and the Bayou Music Center. The sushi is top quality and the cuts are very generous. They plenty of great cooked choices as well. Service is fast and friendly and they are very conscious of your time-table for making it to your event. "Fish" (the manager) is friendly and attentive as well, always making sure your evening is going well. There's a huge amount of outdoor seating so when the weather is nice it's worth checking that out."

  • "The service here is always top-notch, and that's what keeps us coming back. That and the location is great for our theater routine. One complaint I have: while the fish selection is great, I'm always a little disappointed in the overall quality of the structure of the rolls. Quite often, the rolls are either too large to eat in one bite, requiring me to pick it apart and lose the full impact of an intact bite, or it's rolled too loosely so when I grab it with my chopsticks, it falls to pieces. You could say that maybe I need to improve my chopstick skills, but my husband is Asian and has been eating with chopsticks since he was old enough to hold them in his hands. He has the same complaint."

  • "Bluefish has several locations. This location is the one that got us so excited about Bluefish. We became regulars about a year ago. But over the last 4 or 5 visits the service has been really slow (and poor). Usually I eat the sushi. I tried the braised short rib. It was overpowered by the super sweet, thick sauce that filled the plate up. Definitely stick to sushi here (although I've heard the chicken is good...). I hope they fix the service here."

  • "The sushi at Blue Fish is always top quality with beautiful presentation, and served by knowledgeable, attentive servers. The menu is approachable and easy to navigate for both experienced and novice sushi lovers, and we have never had a dish served that was disappointing. A nice, casual place with a friendly, inviting atmosphere!"

  • "Reservations for 4 people at 6 pm, but when I saw we might be late I called ahead and was told no problem. Two of us were only 10 min. late. The host was rude and snotty and almost wouldn't seat two of our party of 4 because the other two were stuck in that bad Thursday afternoon traffic. He actually said the restaurant would lose money. He finally sat us at the worst table in the whole room, even though there were clearly many more tables open. Thank goodness our server Francisco made up for it. He asked if we were going to the ballet and he worked briskly enough for us to enjoy 2 bottles of wine. We might go back, but only because the food is great and Francisco was a gentleman."

  • "The Blue Fish is a great restaurant. My wife and I went on Monday night and it was not very crowded. The service was great, the waitress explained the menu very well and made some good suggestions. The manager was present and cared for the patrons. Food was excellent, the Ahi Tower was delicious. Overall a great experience."

  • "The food was amazing but it seemed like the staff was inattentive, maybe because the restaurant was packed."

  • "Tried the Peking Duck Cigars, interesting flavors and presentation. The ahi tower was awesome to eat and unfortunately had to destroy the beautiful presentation to do so. We'll be back!"

  • "This is our go-to restaurant before theater, symphony concerts or movies at Sundance. We like to come early; find parking; and enjoy the outstanding sushi at Blue Fish before walking over to the show. It is advisable to make a reservation as it can be crowded. Until our experience on Friday evening. I would have given it five stars--but that evening the music was turned up so loud, the waiter could barely hear our order and our group had a hard time conversing. Turn it down, and I'll love the place again!"

  • "Food here is good and consistent. Service was also great. It is only downgraded due to the harsh policies of the host stand. I wholeheartedly admit we were ten minutes late and that is our fault. The host remarked he was surprised he had not already given our table away. We were a group of four and there were about ten four tops still available that I could see from just walking in. Our friends were a few minutes behind us and he would not seat us until they arrived. It is our fault for not being on time, but it is always jarring to be treated like second class diners and made to stand and wait when there are several open tables right underneath us. This only meant loss of revenue for Blue Fish, as we would have ordered a round of drinks."

  • "The restaurant honored our reservations even though we arrived 30 minutes early. That was nice. The food and drinks were very good. Especially enjoyed the Piñata roll. The portions were very large and they offered to keep the leftovers for us until our show was over. It's a very lively place. I will go back to eat there."

  • "Blue Fish Bayou Place was just the ticket for dinner before a 7:30 program at the Wortham. For convenience, menu selection, atmosphere, service, and amazing food, it was perfect! We had a rez for 3 at 6:00 on a week-night, and didn't need it. By 6:30 or so, the place was hopping, so it would be smart to call ahead for any time."

  • "My husband asked for a lunch item that he has been able to get during dinner before and instead asking the chef, our waiter said no. We ordered an appetizer, sushi, sashimi and a salad. No problem with the appetizer, but then we started to get our sushi but no wasabi/ginger. 3 servers brought plates of sushi to our table and we asked each for wasabi as we waited patiently staring at the plates piling up. Finally, our waiter brought some, but our salad never appeared. He had never ordered it. We were running out of time since we had show tickets, so we ordered additional sushi (quickest to get). Very disapponting, good food (except spicy tuna roll was mushy, won't order that again) but the experience left a really bad taste."

  • "Ate here prior to a concert on a Saturday night and found the restaurant surprisingly uncrowded. The waitress recommended the Ahi Tower appetizer and we really liked it. The Seared Ahi Salad was good too as were the jumbo shrimp. We didn't try any of the sushi. Pleasant wines. The lighting (very blue!) is a bit harsh, but probably appeals to the younger set. I'm sure we will be back to try some of the other menu items."

  • "Went to The Blue Fish prior to attending a performance at the Wortham Theather which is directly across the street. I have seen some negative posts on this reaturant but my experience was very positve. Service was attentive and friendly. The Sushi was very good and my wife enjoyed the Tropical Salmon entree. This is a great spot to have dinner if you are going to the theater."

  • "Met up with another couple before seeing Elf the musical. Which was funny by the way. I'll keep it short. Everyone was very nice. Good was good. Prices were reasonable. 4 glasses wine, two rolls, and calamari = $65 total with tip. The service was moderately slow with drinks. They could have been understaffed but regardless we were leaving at 7:20 and requested 2nd glass of wine near 7:00 and got it at 7:15. So the friend had to essential chug a glass of wine. First world problems haha. Anyway, awesome roll the blue fish. Calamari was some of the best I had. Service was okay."

  • "Blue Fish is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Houston. The fish is always delicious, and they have some unique sushi and sushi rolls. They have great entrees for non-sushi eaters. It was a very busy holiday weekend night when we were there. We had theatre tickets and needed to be finished on time. Despite how busy they were, the staff worked as a team and we never felt neglected or that we needed to rush because we were running out of time. We were finished and on to our way to the show in plenty of time. A good experience as always at Blue Fish."

  • "My husband and I really enjoyed this place. It was very good sushi. We were not rushed and had excellent service. I would hightly recommend this restaurant for a "before theater" place to eat."
