A word from The Blackbird
The Blackbird has moved from Black Mountain NC to downtown Asheville.
We are now open and serving both dinner and weekend brunch!
Our menu is Modern Southern with a "nod" to tradition, fun, vibrant and all locally sourced. Our Farm to Table menu changes seasonally with many daily specials. All desserts made in house including our fresh daily ice creams. Our new space is "handcrafted modern" with contributions from many local artists even the tables are made from local pecan wood! We are right downtown at 47 Biltmore Ave on the ground floor of the new Aloft Hotel.

Located on the main strip of downtown asheville near a parking deck. We were seated a few minutes upon arrival. Our server took our order but had to be reminded after 10-15 mins that a glass of wine was ordered but never received. My food was okey. Not spectacular. Pear salad, pork belly with scallops. And cheese for 2. But our guests had some pretty tasty items. Lobster Burger & Duck entree. They were very happy. Maybe I'll give it another try next time in Asheville, but choose more wisely.

We went on a fall weekend in town for hiking and good food. The Blackbird did not disappoint! Ordered multiple appetizers, which were all delicious. I really enjoyed the pecans! Had steak for main which was done really well and the sides tasted great. I will definately visit on my next trip to Asheville.

So glad we decided to go here for dinner on our last night in Asheville. We were very happy with service. food, wine, and atmosphere. The cheese plate for two was the best we ever had - outstanding. I ordered tenderloin and my wife had the salmon - both could not have been any better - the tenderloin was perfectly prepared, medium rare - and the salmon was grilled to perfection. My Brussels sprouts were delicious and my wife loved the asparagus. We topped it all off with the coconut cake, which was totally decadent and delicious. We would definitely return

Four of us dined at Blackbird on a recent Friday night. The server seemed preoccupied and the burgers were cooked way past medium. Way past well, actually. Why ask us how we wanted them if only to ignore us? Liked Blackbird the last time. Not so much this one. Plenty of other good restaurant choices in Asheville.

My family dined here on a busy Saturday night, and enjoyed the experience very much. The noise level was too loud, but otherwise, the food was outstanding, and the wine selections fine. One other problem - my husband, who is a home brewer and certified beer judge, was disappointed in his 2 beer selections. He thought they tasted as if something was amiss in the taps. My trout, asparagus, and risotto were fantastic.

A snarky waiter and average food makes this a miss in a town full of better options. We went for brunch - while their housemade sausage was a tasty, mild alternative to pre-made options, it alone was not enough to salvage dry, tasteless biscuits and omelettes with too little filling.

We had the risotto catch of the day w/ scallops and a filet. Both were perfect! I didn't think the meal could be improved upon until we ordered the mocha mousse cake. OMG! There are no words to fully capture the pleasure afforded by this dessert! Seating is a little tight and there is no where to wait without feeling you're in everyone's way. However, Blackbird is at the top of my list for future AVL dining!

Set in a modern space, tall windows afford nice atmosphere at dusk on a bustling downtown corner… We quickly overlooked a 40 minute delay to be seated (despite reservations). It's hard to blame other diners for lingering over delicious dinners & mile high coconut cake! The busy bartender chatted, informed, and served attentively despite full seating at the bar. At our table the waiter was helpful and gracious -- indeed worth the wait. Pinot pear salad with tangy blue cheese & pecans - delicious! Fall flavors of roasted butternut squash/cranberries, brussel sprouts, and grilled heritage pork chop/bourbon sauce were perfect on a chilly evening — with a glass of Tempranillo. We like to try new places, but The Blackbird merits a return visit!

Have been to Blackbird a couple of times for lunch but this was first time for dinner. I had the filet which was great. You have a choice of 4 different seasonings/glazes. The bourbon glaze was wonderful. Get to also choose two sides. Several different steak and seafood choices on the menu. A separate menu of specials. My partner had the duck with risotto which she really enjoyed. Large wine list starting at $7 a glass.

We are natives and this was our first visit to the Blackbird since it moved downtown. In general our opinion was that it is good, but not as good. If you go there, do not order meat. I paid a lot for a ribeye that I would not even call a steak. However, the chef does well with fish and sides. The desserts were good too. I think we also had a new waiter who just made the meal a little difficult. It was good, but Asheville's bar is set high and for a downtown restaurant it was not tops. For anyone who visited the Blackbird in Black Mountain, you will be disappointed

We come to Asheville about three times per year and this was our third time here. Good server. Small but good selection of wines. Great quail appetizer. Both entrees good and nice portion size. THE COCONUT CAKE IS THE BEST!! Probably in top three desserts ever! Would be nice if they validated parking or had designated because that is a real problem downtown.

My husband and I liked The Blackbird so much that we ate here twice during our most recent visit it Asheville! We both ordered the signature seafood dish with fresh fish, scallops and lemon thyme risotto on our first visit. On the second visit I ordered salmon and my husband ordered the New York strip steak. Both were delicious! The only disappointment was the roasted Brussels sprouts- overdone with a very strong cabbage flavor. (I love Brussel sprouts!) My husband really enjoyed the fruit crisp and ordered it both evenings. The wine list is good, fairly priced and the waiters were very helpful in helping us make a good choice. We are looking forward to returning to The Blackbird on our next trip to Asheville.

I started with oysters with bacon and spinach and my husband had kale caesar salad. Both were excellent. I had the vegetarian plate (and I'm not a vegetarian) and it was excellent with 5 kinds of roasted vegetables. My husband had the "cowboy" steak claiming to be 14 to 20 oz...8 oz was the bone and the steak itself was thin. Very disappointing. Service was excellent. We sat by the window and people watched which is a favorite in Asheville. Also, I requested a windows seat and got a window seat.

We are returning diners at the Blackbird. I asked for a window table of 6 Which could be one row over. We arrived and our guests were at a table in the far corner in the back with at least 15 - 20 flies and the seating with the table next to us was very tight. Yes, we were at a window, but fools we are not. We asked the waitress about the flies and what they could do, as as a joke, do they charge for them. She said there was nothing they could do, and they should be giving us something instead of charging us. THAT would have been a gesture that was positive. My wine came after dinner and one of our guests did not eat her food because of the flies. The food was very good. It appears that returning locals are not important.

Been to Blackbird several times for lunch and dinner and always been a great experience. However, this last visit, I ordered local trout and it was overcooked, with cutlets versus a filet type serving. The beef selections as well as other seafood choices has always been very good. It was not overly crowded, not sure what the problem was with this visit. We are very fortunate on Asheville to have many great restuaraunts and I have always considered Blackbird to be a Top 10.
