The Black Pearlwonderful food (fish tacos;wonderful food (fish tacos; risotto) and attentive service, without being overpowering. A bit loud, but not sure how the restaurant can address that.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, but a little priceyLove the spare rib, but have not tried fish taco. Rainbow trout is a little bit bland for me. Overall, great food but kind of pricey.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, interesting experienceMy roommate and I came for restaurant week and were greeted promptly...by a hostess wearing leopard print booty shorts. After we had already made comments about how strange it was that a "nice" restaurant would allow such attire, we saw multiple waitresses wearing yoga pants, one with multiple inches of skin showing on her stomach. The staff was very friendly, however, and despite it being restaurant week, we were served in a timely manner. The drink that was on special was very good, and $9 isn't bad for a cocktail at a fancier restaurant. But again, the classiness of the establishment went down considerably in my book when half the female waitstaff was wearing things that I probably wouldn't leave the house in, much less work in.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great timeThe food at the black pearl was excellent. The fish tacos amazing but the surprise was the ribs yummy.
The service friendly & comfortable. The server went out of his way to make me comfortable .6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFish tacos, restaurant weekRestaurant week means a good deal with limited choices. I'd come back again for the fish tacos. My friend had the trout which he said was very good. Appetizer of mushroom risotto not so great. The dessert was cheesecake, good but could have been from Costco. It did not taste fresh, as in I made this for you last night in the kitchen.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGood FoodVisited the restaurant on a week night celebrating a birthday. While the food was excellent, the restaurant was very noisy. I wouldn't consider this a family type restaurant, but on this occasion there were children there who were really noisy and were a distraction to those trying to have a conversation. Someone who knew the waitstaff and was visiting with them also brought a child in who was noisy! This is not an inexpensive restaurant so quite honestly I was surprised to see children there at all.
Other than that, it was good.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGo for Happy Hour!We tried six things on the happy hour menu and everything was delish! We did order raw oysters as well and they were divine!. My husband and I each ordered the fish taco (their specialty and it is excellent), the fried shrimp (giant shrimp deep fried), the pasta with seafood (in a cream sauce but very good), saffron mussels (not on the happy hour menu but great). And my husband had one of their specialty martinis. We were full and it was around $70 with tip which wasn't bad. We would go back. If you can only have two things, they would be the fish taco and the oysters!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMCrab CakesSo far, you have the best crab cakes in Ann Arbor.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMI love this place! This was my first time here. ...I took my mom for her birthday and she had a great time and I did too! The food, drinks, service and atmosphere is top notch! Our waiter was friendly, funny, &attentive. We started w/colossal shrimp cocktail&Maryland crab cakes. Tony recomended the grapfruittini& it was the best martini I've ever had! My mom had the peartini which tasted like juicy pears, she liked my martini better. entrées-seared scallops with spinach & I had the Pasta Gone Bayou. Both had great presentation, explosive flavor& were piping hot. If you're super hungry the pasta will be more than enough. The scallop dish was a light meal, but delicious& the scallops were huge. Unique drinks&great food I wish I would've found this place sooner!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb service and foodThe service was most excellent; the food delicious; but the only draw back was that it was a bit expensive. Definitely not a place to frequent. They also have an extensive martini list which was great!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good. IThe food was very good. I thought the rack of lamb was a bit small for the price, but it was cooked perfectly. The Lobster Bisque and Clam Chowder were both excellent, as well as the Maryland Crab Cake appetizer. The Seared Scallops were outstanding, the spinach was a very nice compliment to the scallops.
The service seemed slow for the amount of business that the restaurant had during our visit. On the first visiit to the table, our server dropped off water and neglected to ask for a cocktail order. He was quite pleasant when he was at the table.
it was a fine meal and my notes of discontent are valid to my perception, but others may feel quite differently.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSEAFOOD DELIGHTI choose the Black Pearl for it's seafood menu. We were out celebrating my boyfriends birthday. The Black Pearl was part of a package I purchsed through RUB. It was a wonderful dining experience and I would be willing to repeat the experience. The rainbow trout was amazing, well flavored and cooked to perfection. The raspberry white cheesecake was to die for. It made for a great finale.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. It's a little noisy, but definitely worth a visit. We'll be back!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food! This is by far my favorite dining place in Ann Arbor. Really amazing food and service. Their black bean tacos is love at first bite!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWaiter was fun and very attentive.Waiter was fun and very attentive. He helped us with menu selections. We tried a variety of items on menu (coconut shrimp, tuna tartar, coffee filet, lamb, fish tacos) and they were all very very good. We had a very nice time and will go back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative and enjoyableWe just keep coming back! Food is of quality and not extremely expensive. Great atmosphere, combining higher end bar service and restaurant like seating. Excellent Fresh Oysters!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh Energy and Excellent Food!More of a bar with stellar food than a traditional restaurant, The Black Pearl is an excellent destination when Asian-inspired, high end food. Our server Anthony was well-informed, friendly without being overly solicitous and highly efficient, given the level of business. The food is interesting, simply plated and incredibly tasty. Traditional fare blends well with new trends and the wine and cocktail lists are wide enough to be impressive, but easy enough to navigate without assistance. Do note that "energetic" could well be an understatement on the night you visit. Ultimately, it's a BAR and the patrons behave like they're out for drinks (and more drinks) rather than at an upscale eatery. If you can roll with it, you'll love the place!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot, a little loudGreat spot, a little loud and service was slow although food was excellent4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and ambianceWas very impressed with the food and the ambiance. Service was very good as expected and the decor was excellent. Definitely a place I would recommend and visit again.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed our meals but feltWe enjoyed our meals but felt it was quite noisy and it was hard to talk to one another without yelling.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food with unique selections.Great food with unique selections. Downtown Ann Arbor so excellent for a university vist. We will come back!!!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMReally liked the feel of thisReally liked the feel of this restaurant...dark but warm. The crab cakes(soft crisp outside) and calamari(perfectly cooked) starters were very good. My son and I loved the fish tacos(great balance of flavor). Our youngest son and my husband had salmon also very good. They both thought the dish could have a few more potatoes. Our service was perfect from start to finish.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
