The Black Pearl is an upscale seafood and martini bar with a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Our food and service is some of the best you will find in all of Ann Arbor. We have an extensive martini, beer and wine menu, a little something for everyone. Our guests range from executives to students and everyone in between. We offer food and drink specials daily and weekly. We here at the Black Pearl welcome the chance to show our guests a wonderful evening or appetizers and drinks after a show.   • "We went to Black Pearl to see Laith All Saadi playing the guitar. He is a very talent local Ann Arbor musician. That night we have eaten the fish tortillas we have tried on Tasting of Ann Arbor. Delicious! The service was so so. Polite but slow. I could not understand the logic: why one person take your order, a second one delivery it and a third one pick up the empty dishes..."

  • "Visited for the first time for restaurant week and I have to say that the martinis are AMAZING! My date got the calamari for an appetizer and the skirt steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus for the entree. We both really liked his food, and the steak was cooked really well (we requested medium). I got the eggplant enchilada and the kale side salad, as well as the watermelon gazpacho. I loved the gazpacho and the eggplant enchilada was okay. I thought the sauce on it was a little bland, but that could also be because my Lychee martini was so overpowering ;)"

Other restaurants have much faster service. The food was meh too, didn't taste bad but wasn't amazing either."

The Martinis (that just autocorrected to mama drinks...accurate) are delicious and worth the price of a movie ticket. And I can't order anything else but the fish tacos. I just won't stray. Our waitress was more interested in visiting with other workers than attending our table. However the food was excellent and we would return for the seafood. The presentation and flavors of our meals were excellent."

  • "Seating oriented more towards a bar atmosphere: there are only (2) booths, the rest is raised seating on bar stools. Also, there is very little lighting. The food was OK, but nothing to brag about. They had a good list of beers including craft beers. It's conveniently located in downtown Ann Arbor. The service was attentive and kind. Parking is free in downtown Ann Arbor on Sundays. We parked in a public parking garage about (2) blocks from the restaurant."

  • "I went to Black Pearl for the first time after hearing good things for a while. Unfortunately our night started with waiting for a waiter to come by the table for at least 15 minutes (it was busy but not packed by any means). Several waiters and the hostess passed by and clearly saw our absence of even water but NO ONE asked if we needed help. Finally I stopped a waiter and asked him to find out who was in charge of our table. It took another 5+ minutes to get things straightened out. Quite a buzzkill to wait 25 minutes for martinis on our girls' night out. The rest of the night was much better, food was pretty good and our waitress was knowledgeable, and attentive. I'd recommend it to a friend but not over other places with better service"

Our waiter was very attentive and the atmosphere was very vibrant. I would definitely recommend making a reservation because seating was scarce. It's located in the bustling college town of Ann Arbor which contributes to its festive environment. But don't mistake this for a hipster scene as there is a very diverse crowd with professional and college alike. Highly recommend and will definitely go back again."

  • "We are regulars at the Black Pearl. Of course, they are known for the fish tacos, but you can't go wrong with anything there, really. The grapefruitinis are just delightful -- even my husband loves them! The calamari is some of the best in town. And, the guacamole -- a must. Also -- breaking news -- a new salmon dish that is to die for is coming soon. We had tastes last night. Michael assured us it would be on the menu the next time we return. Can't wait!"

  • "We enjoyed going to the Black Pearl for dinner. The venue is unique and is great for a quiet dinner or drinks with friends. The waitstaff was friendly. We ordered the surf & turf for two which provided a great filet and swordfish. The individual of those dishes comes with some added flavor while ours was good it was plain except for the amazing zip sauce it was served with. The other surprise was no free refills on ice tea. Would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "The cocktails here are quite good, they have an extensive and creative list. Standard prices ($9-12). Oysters were huge. The crab cake appetizer was good, but needed a bit more flavor (some herby breadcrumbs or something). Market salad was basic and fine. The fish tacos were amazing - fried but not with a ton of breading and they have a delicious spicy sauce and crunchy cabbage, onions and tomatoes. At $18 for three tacos and nothing else though, the price is a bit steep - better to get them at happy hour. Seared tuna entree was also excellent over a flavorful sesame quinoa/bean/seaweed salad. The prices are a bit high but the food overall was very good and it has a cozy but hip bar atmosphere."

  • "My boyfriend and I went on date night here on a cold Saturday night. We let the bartender get creative with our drinks and they were all delicious. Our food was excellent, though I am from Baltimore so I wouldn't say the same for the crabcakes-they were decent. I had the fish tacos they were great, my boyfriend had the bayou pasta, be said the same. Other than that it was great, we would definitely go back. The one thing I did not like we're the cramped tables."

  • "Seven of us met up for post dinner drinks....and food. Our table was in the back which was perfect for as we were not encumbered by other close tables. The food was very good, martinis were delicious...an extremely wide variety...cucumber martins were the preferred drink of the night. A perfect night out for our just over 50 age group ;)). Our waiter, Brian, was beyond 5star. Excellent service :))"
