  • Food was just OK but service

Food was just OK but service was poor. Based on reviews, I expected a lot better experience. In addition, the restaurant was playing satellite radio as background music so actually had to eat dinner while listenting to commercials! Very bush league for a restuarant which bills itslef as higher quality. There are many other places where you can find a much better meal and experience for comparable prices.

Waiter was a nice young man but not very attentive. White chocolate bread pudding was outstanding. Background music (and radio ad for Progressive Insurance featuring Flo) was too loud. Over all - an OK place; not on my list of special places to go.

  • Met a colleague from the UK

Met a colleague from the UK there for breakfast at 6:30 am. We were the only ones in the restaurant for the hour we were there and the service was dismal. Maybe because it was the early shift, but this poor gal looked completely lost and was clearly inexperienced. Was seemingly shocked when my colleague asked for a second cup of coffee - brought no butter for the toast and had to be asked to refill water glasses even though that was my only beverage. And she could not understand my colleague, even though he is an articulate man - with a British accent. She simply could not make herself understand him. Overall, shabby service.

The service was poor for such a place where the wine is over priced and the food average. I have been here twice now and disappointed on both ocassions. Food arrived after a long time and was warm. Waitress was unattentive even though it was not very busy. It was a special occasion and that's why we chose a nice place but it was nothing more than average and I would never recommend it to any friends.

The food and wine selections were top notch, rivaling the best restaurants we have dined at. The service however was the worst by far we have experienced. We were seated and watched a waiter, who later revealed himself as our server, walk past our table at least 11 times without ever uttering a word. On the 12th pass my wife stopped him to ask who would be our server, he replied it would be him and that he had not noticed us there at the table until he was called over. It took almost 35 minutes from the time we were seated until out initial drink order was taken. Again, loved the food, hated the poor level of customer service.

We've always had great good at Bistro Alex and both of our lunch entrees (mahi mahi and crab ravigote) were excellent. The only disappointment with our meal was that the original dinner rolls brought out tasted as though they had been left over from the day before. We told our server about this and later in our meal did receive fresh from the oven rolls that were delicious. We're not sure what caused the first mishap but they would be better off telling people that the rolls are baking rather than serving something that isn't worth eating. This is still one of our favorite places to have a leisurely lunch. If you're looking for a quick bite, you should go somewhere else. Atmosphere is quiet and conducive to a pleasant conversation

This was one of the best dinners we have had at a restaurant in very long time. The duck breast was the best that my husband said he had ever had. I had red snapper which was delicious and I am not much of a fish eater. We had the chef come to our table so we could compliment her. We will talk about that dinner for quite some time to come.

My wife and I had a late night reservation (10 PM) and showed up right at that time. We were taken to a table that was cleaned but had no napkins or silverware. The hostess, rather than seating us, took us to a six person booth, which we declined (very awkward). Service was good/friendly. The food was okay -- could have done without the crabcake appetizer. Filet mignon was a bit over-salted and over-cooked. Pomegranate cheesecake was great. Ambiance was terrible. Freakishly loud and obnoxious music and ads playing occasionally made it very difficult to have a conversation (or to hear yourself think for that matter). This alone could be a potential determining factor for whether we dine at Bistro Alex or elsewhere in the future.

The food was excellent, the service very good, very nice ambience, can highly recommend this restaurant. Would definitely eat here again. We had a groupon deal and they were extremely accommodating with this. I left my cell phone behind and when I went back an hour later to retrieve it they were extremely helpful in finding it for me. Our server was able to offer good insights into the food as she told us that the servers have all tried all the dishes so they can offer diners an honest opinion on the menu items rather than just offering a bland 'it's very good', which is an excellent idea.

Valentines special was ok. Couples shared certian entrees on the menu which is ridiculous being that you pay per a person. The dessert was tasteless. And not the best spot for kids. I asked for macaroni and they served pasta with some white sauce that did not taste like cheese. My child did not eat it. Need to revise menu. Ambiance was beautiful and service was good. Food OK.

Service was very impersonal and hurried. The restaurant ambiance is too blah for City Centre. For the price of the food, they could take care of their customers better. I was hoping for something more from a "nice" restaurant. But, one good thing (Thank Goodness) the filet steak was very delicious.

Went to Bistro Alex for a Valentine's Day lunch, and it was fanastic. Thought it would have been busier during the lunch period, but the few open tables allowed for a nice quiet atmosphere. Restaurant looks very nice, it's upscale, but not really upscale, with reasonable prices on the menu, and the food was great. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a business casual lunch or for a nice romantic dinner date. Hotel Sorella does have valet in the front of the hotel (near Bistro Alex), but we just parked in the parking garage and walked over to the hotel, it was not that far of a walk.

My wife and I ate there on Christmas Day. The restaurant was almost empty, so it as easy to get a table (I do not know how difficult it would have been on a busy night). The appetizers were ok (no complaints, but nothing award winning either). Our first round of drinks were mojitos, and they tasted pretty weak. Our second round were "sidecars," and they turned out to be quite strong. I ordered the Angus filet, and I have no regrets. The way it was cooked - and the sauce that was on it - is reason enough for me to return. However, it was accompanied by mashed potatoes (of which I'm not a big fan). The creme brulee was great, and there was plenty of it.

Seats were uncomfortable - as though we were sitting on no cushion - and too low for the table height. My Scallops and Shrimp had 2 scallops, 4 shrimp smaller than a quarter and the risotto was just a glob - for $28?!! My side vegetable came out after I had completely finished my entrée. The best part is we had a Groupon or this review would be much more critical.
