Diner Reviews
  • "Was headed to Chapel Hill for Easter weekend and we decided to stop and enjoy lunch at the Bistro. We did make a reservation since it was a Saturday and so glad we did. There definitely was a wait but we were seated fairly quickly. Food was really good. Lobster BLT, the burger and the special, which was sea bass with polenta was ordered. Everything was delicious. We had wine with our meal... which was.. so so. But you know going in this isnt Napa or Sonoma. The gift shoppe was really cute and we purchased a few things. Did not do the wine tour (it was pouring out) and had enough wine at lunch to skip the tasting. I would definitely recommend for lunch if traveling on 85. "

  • "A great place to take out-of-town guests. The waiter was attentive, but let us enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace. The waiter suggested a nice Chardonnay that went well with our meal as we both had the chicken salad, one dish as a sandwich and the other a salad plate. We choice the bacon cornbread for an appetizer and it was delicious. We had a corner table overlooking the vineyards that was amazing. The customer service was excellent from the hostess to the servers. A lovely dining experience."

  • "Just wondering with ALL of Mr. Childress' s money he decided to put his vineyard right beside an expressway. It felt like we were stranded in the median when we toured the grounds. (Very loud traffic) The food and wine and winery were very good, but probably won't come again. Sorry."

  • "Loved our visit! Our girls weekend began with an early lunch at the bistro. We had early reservations and were seated quickly. We opted to eat on the patio on this beautiful day.the setting was great and we had a wonderful relaxing time.. The food was good and we enjoyed our wine. Our waitress was pleasant and did a good job. Everyone in the party enjoyed the meal and setting. The only negative was that I was not told there was an extra charge to do 1/2 soup and half salad with any salad other than cesear. Overall great trip and we plan to start our next girls weekend her as well. I highly recommend and the cost is reasonable. Visit the shop and ground while there if you have time."

  • "Food was pretty good, not great. For the prices charged, food should have been much better. Were celebrating a birthday and it is a good location for a special occasion."

  • "The atmosphere and scenery here are always part of the reason I come here at least once a month even though it is an hour drive. The menu is somewhat limited but offers enough if a choice to make it interesting and they vary the menu from time to time. Has a very good wine list at a reasonable price."

  • "We've been to the Childress Bistro 1 other time about 5 years ago and it was great. Went with family. We decided to go back for our 20th anniversary and it was beyond fantastic. We had the trifecta which was appetizer, main course and dessert all paired with different wines for each. It was unbelievable. I could not have had a better meal anywhere else. It was very busy, but you wouldn't have known it, our server was very attentive, the noise level was low, and the seating is very spacious and comfortable. We had a terrific view of the back vineyards. I would recommend this to all who treasure food and wine."

  • "The view was eye candy, wait persons were efficient, food was good. We knew that when we previously had our dining experience there ruined by a group of loud-mouthed “ladies,” it was aberration. Unfortunately, history repeated itself. Childress should ensure that its guests are not affronted by louts that act as if they are at a soccer match. This is a management problem. Tables should only be reserved for small numbers of people or larger groups should be segregated, or monitored and admonished to tone down the noise. There is no excuse for allowing an ill-mannered mob to ruin the dining experience of everyone there. We don’t pay for that and we don’t deserve it. We’ll try Childress one more time. But three strikes will eliminate us."

  • "We have been to The Bistros on numerous occasions; however, lunch was disappointing this past Saturday. The food was overcooked, it was very noisy, and our waitress was not very attentive or personable (did not seem to want to be there). Still had a good time drinking wine and enjoying the beautiful day."

  • "This place is awesome. First: It is at one of the nicest and high-end wineries we have ever seen, and we have been to Napa, Sonoma, Santa Barbara, and all over Tuscany!!! Great tasting room with some very nice vintages. Yes, in North Carolina!! Then on to the restaurant for lunch. Sit outside for a great view of the vineyard. Excellent food. I had Shepard'spie and it was terrific. Spouse had a gourmet/vegie pizza and it was also really good. This is a most unusual and beautiful place. Service was excellent."

  • "Open Table worked great! We were seated right on time! Food at Childress is wonderful. Large burgers and very tasty. Two of our party ordered the burgers. I the Pimento Cheese one and my cousin ordered the Bistro Burger. Both were very large burgers and very juicy. We split them and exchanged 1/2. We both agreed the Pimento cheese was the best in flavor. Over all very good meal. Recommend people with a small appetite order one and share!"

  • "My fiance and I spent the afternoon here with a couple visiting from Florida. It was a great way to show them a bit of North Carolina. The tour was educational, tastings were reasonably priced, and the food was perfect."

  • "This was a perfect place to bring out of town guests. They offer vegetarian/vegan options and the chef was very accommodating. Our Waitress was very pleasant and helped us make delicious meal choice choices. We even took the winery tour. Highly recommend."

  • "I love the environment of the restaurant. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. We have visited many times and always enjoy the atmosphere and surroundings. The food preparation and variety of items have changed from previous times, of which I prefer the older menu and preparation of food."

  • "We surprised our friends with celebrating their wedding anniversary at the Bistro. We called ahead and had balloons, a bottle of 2009 Petit Verdot (their favorite) and a special cake made by the Bistro chef. What a surprise! The food and wine was exceptional, the staff went out of their way to make the day special for us, and the chef's chocolate cake was to die for. I would recommend the Bistro for any special occasion or just a casual lunch."

  • "This was my first time at the winery. The rest of our group had been numerous times and were excited we chose this winery for lunch. Two members of our party were an hour late but our server was so kind and patient and never made us feel we were being an inconvenience. The food was wonderful as was the wine. Also bought several items at the gift shop."

  • "Food was great, service was lacking. Our waitress Paula, was extremely friendly and attentive but for a Saturday lunch service was slow. 2 out the 4 orders were wrong, the waitress quickly fixed the problem but I had ordered salad and received soup. Another guest ordered chicken salad on a croissant but received a chicken wrap. Details are important. However the birthday brownie was a nice touch."

  • "Excellent dinner at Childress. Both the food and service were top notch!"

  • "This is an outstanding bistro...but it's so much more. With the design of the room I feel that the other diners aren't customers only, they feel like friends and family. The food is awesome. Of the three times I've come here, I've tried three very different meals and all three are quite wonderful. The trifecta is particularly superb but anything one orders promises to be spectacular. The beautiful and relaxing view, the quiet atmosphere, the skillful and talented service make dining a perfectly grand experience."

  • "I had high expectations, but I was still overwhelmed. The bistro is very comfortable, the view grand and the food very tasty. The wine is decent by North Carolina standards"

  • "Service was again fantastic (Kat). Usually a in a party of 2 or 4. Service was very slow last summer when we had a party of 8. Will always recommend Bistro for ambiance, the wines, and the food. Jan was our taster and was excellent, too. As usual, We'll be back!!"

  • "The waitress was great. Try to attend with a group of four for a good seat. Group of six was put in the corner. Food was good and we didn't feel rushed. However we had to make an 11:00 am resevation for six but there were plenty of open tables for 4."

  • "I have celiac disease and normally don't have tons of choices for gluten free, but I was so pleased with the choices. The pistachio encrusted salmon was amazing! I only wish there were more parsnips, just a few little chunks. My friend said it was the best thing she put in her mouth! Another thing we appreciated was that we told them we hadn't seen each other for a long time and we were going to camp out for a while. They didn't rush us at all. I think we drank 15 cups of tea and our waitress Ashlyn, was fabulous! We tipped her what she deserved, which was really good."

  • "I greatly enjoy this little quiet eatery. It is great to entertain clients for lunch. I always put my back to scenery and allow them to have the beautiful view of our Lexington winery. It works every time!!!!"

  • "Surprisingly great food, tasting room lives up to top 25 rating. We were not able to walk the grounds, but look forward to our next visit during nicer weather. Good vegitarian menu, but you have to ask for it."

  • "From the moment you drive in the gates and up to the winery, your mind begins to try and calculate your destination. "Where am I?", it says, "We only drove a short time, yet I feel like I am in Tuscany?" The elements you are experiencing are all authentic...you can't be in Lexington, NC, anymore? From the slate walkways, to the solid wood doors, to the elaborate decor of the interior, not to mention the bathrooms, you will believe yourself transported to another time and another place. The views are breath taking. The staff is delightful, polite and pleasant. The food absolutely delicious! If you haven't been yet, it should be on your TO DO list. If you have been, treat yourself to another amazing experience."

  • "great food, They always have a great choice of entrée's to choose from. Always good to make reservations to have a table and not just show up. I like to get there early enough to look through the shop before we sit at our table. Also you may see Richard walk through."
