  • "The atmosphere is really great, but I was disappointed with the food. The appetizers were good, but the entrees were very disappointing. My dish needed more flavor, my risotto was very watery and the portion size was very small. Everyone in are party had similar complainants about lack of flavor and over cooked meat. I will go back and give it a 2nd chance, since our apps were good and the overall atmosphere is great."

  • "The Bentley Tavern was a pleasant neighborhood surprise. The food was much better than any of us expected. The wine list was equally impressive, and unlike other places, they aren't overpriced. The one downside is that the space is cavernous, and as such, the sound can be deafening. It can be hard to hear people at your table talk, given there is nothing muffling the sound in the restaurant. No curtains, no acoustic foam, no table cloths. So mix in the sound of bar tv's, food service, tables of high-pitched young women and their chardonnay, and the sound can be overwhelming. Will certainly try the restaurant again given how pleasant the food was and reasonably priced the wine was, but would encourage owners to mitigate the sound."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Bentley Tavern. The charcuterie board was really good and very large for the price - a great value. Our entrees were also very good and the portion sizes are perfect - just enough to be filling. Only real area for improvement is the speed of service, it was too fast. I wish the server/kitchen would have timed things out a bit better. Our entrees arrived before we had finished our appetizer. Taking things just a bit slower would have improved our experience a little."

  • "I had the best oysters I've ever had. This place is severely underrated and I hope people start coming here so it doesn't shut down. It was pretty empty when we came in, although it was a bit earlier on a Friday night. Everything was excellent, nice ambience, could be a little more dimly lit. Everyone was very nice. And the side streets are no zone so you can park right around it. Will definitely be back."

  • "My friend and I met here for brunch on a Sunday and, while we were not there at the typical noon brunch time, we were not expecting it to be completely dead inside. But it was, which was slightly awkward. However, the food was delicious! I had the chicken and waffles and my friend had the root vegetable hash. Both dishes were great and I would get the chicken and waffles again. Also, they had $9 bottomless mimosas and bloody mary's with the order of an entree. That's a great deal! So, we were confused why no one else was there. People should definitely check it out! Delicious food and great prices for brunch."

  • "At first, Bentley Tavern looked like a well-decorated and fun spot to be on a Saturday night. We quickly noticed that the waitress could not hear us and that the acoustics of the place were not good at all. Then the appetizers took forever to get to our table. At that time we ordered our dinner and I, being a pescatarian, ordered the only non-meat item on the menu, sea bass. We ordered and 20 minutes later the waitress informed me, "No more sea bass!" I then ordered soup for dinner! The experience as a whole was very mediocre and I cannot recommend this restaurant."

It's a beautiful restaurant in an unexpected corner of Southport (a bit chilly though for this winter weather). The food was good, not fantastic, but the menu offered a variety of must try items.   • "We arrived at this restaurant 5 minutes before our scheduled OpenTable reservation. My family and I were seated at a regular 4-top table and after our water was poured, we were asked to move to a high top table in the bar area as this was not our "reserved table, although they had sat us at this table themselves. This was unacceptable as I am 8 months pregnant and I was dining with my parents, who need a comfortable seat while dining. Keep in mind, we were told on the phone earlier that the bar hightop tables in the bar were non-reservation so I had no idea how we had been relegated to bad table. Very disappointed in our service and the way in which the hostess handled this issue."

  • "This seems like a terrific neighborhood fine dining spot, still w enough corner charm to be locals' hangout. Super fresh bluepoints on the half shell and tender lamb meatballs were a great start. Pork shoulder cassoulet was perfectly tender & unctious, while rigatoni w house made sauce was equally as homemade tasting. Other offerings and desserts were well received as well. Wine list is a bit limited but it worked out for a casual evening."

  • "We had had an excellent dining experience at Bentley Tavern about 2 weeks ago so we though we would try them for brunch. There were 3 of us and two of us had a very nicely presented, tasty plate of lox and bagels. When the food arrived, finally, one of the plates of lox and bagels was not served and had to be reordered. One meal, a frittata, was overcooked despite the specific request to not overcook the eggs. It was returned and was properly cooked the second time. The side order of potatoes was too oily with too flavor. The cinnamon bun was very good. The management was very generous to us in acknowledging the mistakes that had been made."

  • "Service was unsure and rushed, we barely bit into our appetizer and the brought the salads, then we were only halfway through the salads and they brought the entrees, and 2 of the three entrees were very cold. The duck and the pork. Took a minute to get the server, they left the one hot entree took the others back, it was quite awhile the third person went on to eat And was finished when the other two entrees came back remade. They really should have remade all three They were nice about it, no reason given and they gave us. Discount without asking, the food was good, but will be hesitant Bout a return visit"

She's a Chicago convert. She loves this city and her enthusiasm really shows. The food is very nicely executed. Some standards and some surprises. Good addition to the neighborhood."

  • "Tickets to the Athenaeum brought us to Bentley Tavern. Nice menu, good portions, nicely executed, decent drinks/wine/beer list. Flavors were very good but we were puzzled. There was no difference between the agnolotti and the pieroggi in terms of outer wrap. could've been pot stickers. Fillings and sauces were very good. Quail special on cheddar corn bread was great. Helpful staff, cute little place. Probably wouldn't go out of the way to stop in again but if other plans brought us around, we sure would consider going back."

  • "The food was fantastic, drinks were scrumptious, and the atmosphere was excellent. The service however left much to be desired! Our reservation was for 8:30, and we were not seated until 9:05. When we mentioned something to the hostess, she brushed us off. Then our server was only so-so, which was disappointing in comparison to the high quality of ambience and food. When asked for a recommendation of what to order, he pointed at three items on the menu saying only, "this is good." From such a seemingly high quality restaurant, my party expected a more comfortable, accommodating experience from the staff."

I ordered the black cod which was nicely presented on a bed of risotto with peppers on top but when it came it smelled and tasted very fishy. Overall the meal was way too expensive for three people (172 with tip) with only 2 glasses of wine and no dessert or coffee."

  • "We saw this restaurant open in the neighborhood a few weeks ago and have been anxious to give it a try. My wife and I went there mid-week for her birthday. We found our waitress very enthusiatic and helpful. My wife had the roasted half chicken which was very genreous and delicious and she loved the buttermilk potatoes. At the recommendation of our server I had the pork shoulder which must have cooked slowly nearly all day because it was moist, tender and very tasty. We had a great time and look forward to taking friends there soon."
