Located in basement of bank (the top was CVS!), it feels like in old movie. Previous history as a bank was really interesting.
Stairs lead to downstairs was decorated nicely. The lighting were pretty dark because they have a great bar and you can see right away they are made for late-night chillin' with friends.
Menu does have short choice but good. They made me mocktails with bartender's "secret" ingredients, pretty fun and interesting.
The food come in timely manner. If you go there around 5 or 6 pm, nobody really there since people start to hang out around 7.30 or 8ish. The oysters were very good especially liked the 2 sauces they gave us to put on them. However, we didn't really like the octopus appetizer. We thought the watercress sauce tasted like grass $ ruined the dish - not good. The trout special was very tasty & the lamb meatballs had a nice spice to them. I had the Classic St Germain drink - it was quite nice. I could drink them all night! The group really enjoyed Bedford. My cocktail - Polish Mule - was a great start. Our server & asst. servers were super!! The split pea soup was a fav of mine but the steak tartare could be improved (the overly salty chips it was served with didn't mask the blandness nearly enough). The group raved about the donut holes.
After dinner we moved to the bar area. There is lots of seating but the music is obnoxiously loud. Turning it into an evening of yelling at the person seated next to you just to be heard at a whisper. Fine if it was a dance club but lounge atmosphere was at odds. It is a beautiful space, carved out of a vintage bank basement. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with cozy seating areas and a great bar. Our meal was a 10. Our party was 4 adults, enjoyed wine, appetizers, 4 entrees and the entire "side dish" menu. Every dish was excellent, including the doughnut holes for dessert. When we left there was a line out the door. I think it's much easier to have dinner then stick around for late night drinks and mingling. I accidentally dropped my ID and debit card on the floor in the lounge area and it was still there on Monday. The manager responded to my message quickly when I inquired about it. The food is a bit pricey, but the atmosphere makes up for it. We tried the special app- a white bean and halibut brandade. It was awesome. My hubby had the skirt steak and I had the mushroom ragout with ricotta gnocchi. Totally delicious and lighter than I thought it would be. We had a lovely server and the atmosphere was perfect for nice conversation over our meal. This trip one in our party did have a complaint about his meal, the chicken was pretty dry, but the oysters, seasonal spring pea soup and great wine made up for it. James provided some of the best service we had ever received, and we are all experienced diners. The punch bowl was refreshing and unique. I had the special, which, complements to the chef...knocked my socks off. The restaurant couldn't have had a cooler vibe. You will not be disappointed. It has nice ceiling decorations and even a room made out of a bank vault. The restaurant is very cavernous and split between dining and the bar area. It was early on a Thursday night, but the place wasn't that busy. I recommend going on Thursday because they have Oyster and champagne specials which are really good deals. I ordered the steak and my girlfriend ordered the braised lamb. Both were very good, but the steak was outstanding. Overall, no complaints about the food and drink as I thought both were excellent.
