A word from The Bedford
Inspired by the Supper Club experience of a bygone era, The Bedford puts a modern-day twist on the concept by offering more than just a restaurant. Underground but not exclusive, this Wicker Park outpost offers a full nightlife experience without the formality. Come into the reclaimed landmark bank for a drink or small bite, and end up staying for a full meal, music and more. Sip on one of our signature cocktails in the one-of-a-kind lounge in a former bank vault; experience our boutique wine, beer and spirits selection at the bustling bar; or enjoy our celebrated cuisine in the intimate dining room. Stick around after dinner and you just might find yourself ready to mingle, enjoy some tunes and the company of an old (or new) friend. You could go somewhere else, but why would you want to? The Bedford is an affordable luxury right in the heart of Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. Experience it for yourself. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "From the moment I left the cab passed through the gigantic door, and walked downstairs the looks of this place is really unique in appearance. The lounge areas are spacious and lush, and the dining area I sat in was comfortable, and in the center of the restaurant with the vault to my left, and the night club area to my right. The place does have quite a bit of sound, but it's possible to have a conversation. The food was excellent, and we sampled the oysters, a special rib appetizer, and enjoyed both fish and chicken accompanied by a bowl of fries. The small complimentary glass of sparkling wine that was served with the appetizers was quite refreshing. For dessert we had a plate of strawberries, and Grand Marnier. Great experience!"

  • "My fiancé and I went here for a fun night out and we were not disappointed! The food was great - simple dishes with a nice spin on them! We were both really impressed with the ambiance and atmosphere though...it was loud, energetic, it was busy and it was such a different setting than most restaurants. The old bank vault is very cool looking and the details are so interesting. We are definitely wanting to go back!!"

  • "Really cool spot inside of an old bank! Delicious food, specifically the scallops and flat iron steak. Solid wine and liquor options."

  • "Located in the basement of an old bank but with a young energetic crowd. Come here to dine in on some small plates and large drinks. Get the punch bowl to share with your group and be sure to reserve a table so you don't have to wait to be sitted. Also make sure you are willing to spend a pretty penny, you are in a bank and they charge you like you are in one."

  • "We went here with a work group. I picked it because I thought it was a cool bar scene with low expectations on food. It was actually the opposite. The bar was quiet with a small crowd (it was a Wednesday night around 8pm), and the food was delicious. Service was very attentive, which would be expected as we were one of the only tables eating in our servers section. The drinks are delicious too. Overall, we had a great dining experience, but I maybe more of a weekend spot for a crowd."

  • "We braved the negative reviews (mostly about noise) with an early seating. The food is Germanic -- creamy, pickle-tasting, or crunchy. The Caesar salad, based on grilled chicory, was tasty - like pickles - and should not be called a Caesar salad. Pork sausage came with braised cabbage (well-executed) that tasted like pickles. Fondue was rich and creamy as were the appetizers on toast and the sweet potato side dish. The oysters and the mussels were excellent and in the normal taste spectrum (not pickly, not rich cream). Only clinker was tthe fresh made doughnuts which were over-fried, a lot of crunch and not much else. Overall, this is GREAT bar food. So if you're in a group where you want the noise you will not be disappointed."

  • "We recently went to the Bedford to celebrate a birthday and where pleasantly surprised. We where seated immediately after arrival and asked them to bring champagne which they did so right away. Our server seemed to be new but was very knowledgeable with the menu and cocktails. Great atmosphere. Not to loud, food and drinks where fantastic!! We'll be going back soon."

  • "Very neat looking restaurant, love the bar. Food is just ok, I will be going back for drinks only."

  • "The atmosphere is awesome, a nice change of pace and just cool to be in an old bank. Food was good, had the shrimp and pot roast rolls, both were good. The drinks were also very good, "dark and stormy" is a good route to take."

  • "This was great for a special occasion. 6 of us went and we were able to share all types of food."

  • "I booked a table of eight for my birthday celebration, and it was a wonderful experience. Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff and wonderful food. The small plates were particularly fun to pass around the group, and we were able to try practically everything on the menu. Cocktails are also wonderful. Plus we were seated near the vault, which was very cool."

  • "My father is hard of hearing so I called to ask about the noise level for a Wednesday night. The hostess, Daryl, said there was a back room that was quieter than the main dining area and would make a note for us to be seated there. The day before, I got a confirmation call and I again explained the situation and the woman also assured me jokingly, "Don't worry, we won't seat you in the center of the room or anything!"... We got to the restaurant and were seated in the center of the main dining room! I asked our server if we could be re-seated and was met with major hesitation. The back room was closed because it wasn't very busy but they did end up moving us there and we had a great evening. The food and ambiance more than made up for it!"

  • "All the food was very good, but the menu was limited. Our server was very good. The room was cool, but it was really noisy. Overall there was a lot to like, and everything was at least above average, but nothing really blew me away. I'll happily go back again, but it's not "can't miss." Great for a first date or a night out with friends, but doesn't really stand out in a great restaurant town like Chicago."

  • "We had a great time. The Bedford is a cool spot with a great bar scene and good drinks. The service and food was only okay though. We'll be back, but just for drinks."

  • "I don't know about weeknights, but I was there on a Saturday night at 10:00 for dinner and the bar area was so loud that it made it impossible to eat and talk to your dinner companion. You just wanted to wolf it down and finish quickly to get out of there!! The food is tasty, nothing exciting, but you can't enjoy it because its simply too loud. Its not just the amount of loud people, its more because the bar has the music pumped up so high that the crowd has to yell over it. I realize its a trendy and popular bar scene, its just too bad they can't find a way for the diners in the dining room to have the ability to talk why they eat."

  • "the restaurant concept and décor is really special. unfortunately, our service was a little off his game, mixing up one of our appetizers and then again during our entrees. things were made right though and the food was just delicious!!"

  • "Twas a good dinner, our waiter was definitely not a sinner. My scallops were truly fitting, for this great night a-sitting. My dates gnocchi were delicious, although she does not appreciate the fish-ious TL:DR everything was good"

  • "Very good overall. The pot roast rolls & fondue were excellent & many of the other plates we ordered were very good. A bit noisy & hipsterish, but still a good spot for a birthday dinner."

  • "Went on a week night so it was a little quiet which was great for a romantic dinner for 2. We tried the oysters (fantastic by themselves, the sauce with them was too vinegary), gnocchi (ungodly delicious), beef carpachio (wish I could eat it everyday) and pork belly sausage (good, but probably my least favorite dish). We tried the manhattan and St. Germain for drinks and were very impressed. For dessert we had the pot de creme (absolutely decadent) and the apple cake (scrumptious). Definitely one of our new favorite restaurants."

  • "Just back from the Bedford and absolutely have no complaints. Good food, not amazing, but very high quality. Really liked the atmosphere with the vault, fireplaces, etc. Wonderful interior architecture. As other reviewers have noted, the staff seems a little disinterested, but they were fine and friendly for us. We dined early in the night (6:30) and it was not too loud or crowded - just perfect. Good drinks - nice, different place for dinner."

  • "The Host checked us in and then checked our coats. Our waiter had zero personality and when we tried to ask for suggestions he told us "this is a new menu so I don't know'. He seemed annoyed from the start so we just went ahead with the Restaurant Week meals thinking we couldn't go wrong. The food was great. We especially loved the gnocchi! The host was especially attentive when we headed out and remembered which coats were ours. He even held them up for us to put on and refused to take a tip. These little things go a long way and made up for our less than friendly waiter."

  • "We had a great meal there, but wish there were more choices. Lovely rest rooms, sat by the fireplace which was really nice. The bar in the vault is a great idea~just not cozy~something high in the middle might break up the space into nooks. The photography on the walls is incredible!"

  • "The space is amazing and the food pretty good. Our server asked or said nothing about the menu and could barely be bothered to revisit our table. She made a mistake on the bill (no big deal and it happens); she very awkwardly told us about the mistake. Bedford would be better served by hiring talented servers to compliment the great space."

  • "Someone forgot to check us in on open table so I got an email from them telling me I was going to be penalized if I didn't follow up and check in. Just wanted to pass that along not a big deal at all. Just trying to be helpful."

  • "We brought our children who are fairly adventurous diners. The only complaint on ambiance was that our table was very dark. Impossible to read the menu without passing around the table candle. The restaurant is in an old bank vault, which made for really interesting ambiance. We liked it . The staff was welcoming to our family, but I don't think they see too many kids. Moderate attention was paid by waitstaff but other assistants and bus staff were great. She may have gotten busy, but attention toward the end of our meal was poor. Had to ask for dessert menu and coffee never offered. Food was very good, low country inspired. We had flat iron steak, sweet potato gnocchi, and burgers. The apple cider donuts were delicious."

  • "The food was good, but I couldn't enjoy it because the music was so loud that my table and seat vibrated. I could'nt understand what the waitress was saying. I couldn't enjoy a conversation with my significant other. Bad experience."

  • "We went here on a double date and it was great! Everything that we ordered was amazing. Out waitress was very nice and attentive, but it didn't seem like she knew what was going on. She could have been new, so we didn't hold that against her. It took a little while for our food to come, but we weren't in a hurry, so that bother us. I would definitely recommend this to friends. It's very trendy and had great food."

  • "Saturday night dining experience with a reservation, we were seated as soon as we walked in the door right by the fireplace which gave wonderful ambience. Drinks were delicious off the cocktail menu. We had the special appetizer for the evening, Pork meatballs with risotto and cheese all fried together. Delicious, I wish it was permeanently on the menu, they stole the show! Our meals were delicious, my husband had the special pork tenderloin and I the flat iron steak. Both cooked amazing. Dessert was fantastic, donuts with a maple bourbon glaze. Every bite and sip was wonderful. We have to go back, looking forward to it as the vault was closed for a private event."

  • "The Bedford was the perfect place to take my girlfriend for her birthday. Classy and romantic, it has a great ambience and the service is incredible. The food is beyond compare and the drink menu leaves nothing to be desired. We had dessert and champagne in the vault which was the coolest thing."

  • "The Bedford's pre-selected menu options made it very easy for me to coordinat a group dinner at the restaurant. The food was excellent and the ambience was amazing. However, our server was quite unattentive and the flow of dinner was slow as there were major lags in the timing of each course being served."
