Diner Reviews
  • "we were hosting an out of town guest who had never been to Vancouver and lucked out by being in our beautiful city during a stretch of marvellous sunny weather - after a hike in the mountains late in the day, we headed to the Beach House for a late dinner on the patio - the food was okay, the service was okay but the overall setting was remarkable - a great place to take in the view and finish a terrific day in Vancouver"

  • "We used to patronize the Beach House when it used to be "Peppi's" (same gorgeous view, but very basic Italian cuisine, mainly a pasta/pizza situation...but at least it wasn't "all grease/fat" food, like it is today!). Then it changed ownership and they tried changing it into an "upscale" restaurant (BUT with your "usual suspects"/standard fare stuff on the menu, only pricier....). But things got worse: It has now turned into a "glorified fish and chips & steak and hamburger joint"! Grease and yawn! What a TOTAL WASTE of an OUT OF THIS WORLD location! HOW SAD!! Their only saving grace? The young staff is very welcoming, friendly, courteous and accommodating: bravo to the staff at The Beach House!"

  • "I took my friend, visiting Vancouver, to lunch there. I have been there several times and have been happy every time. The food and the ambience was very good."

  • "The halibut was nicely done but an insignificant portion size."

  • "Made reservations through OpenTable fast and easy. They had an indoor and outdoor table waiting for us. Of course, the view outside is to die for. Right on the ocean. This is a romantic place to take a date, even with kids playing outside on the grass."

  • "Excellent service and good food. Noisy, like so many restaurants."

  • "This is a great special occasion restaurant as it is pricey. Beautiful view and had great service. Appetizers ... Shrimp gyoza, crab dip, crispy Thai prawn and Malpeque oysters were great. (Oysters were very expensive...) Lobster Mac and cheese ... Good. Halibut fish and chips were delicious."

  • "Great food. The band started at about 9 pm - end of conversation! We moved to an outside table and then enjoyed the rest of the evening. Restaurant far too small for a three piece live band."

  • "Overall, everything was just wonderful!! We had guests in from out of town for a very, very special occasion and The Beach House ended up being the best spot we could have picked. None of us had been before, it was recommended to us, and we will all come back again without a doubt. Thanks for a great experience!"

  • "Charming, classic, welcoming ambiance. Delicious food, beautiful presentation. No disappointments here!"

  • "This restaurant we visit once a year in the summer as the view is lovely .. if the food and service were greater we would come much more often particularly in the summer. The service was slow .. we were told that 4 people were ahead of us for the patio .. so when we returned we were told there were still 2 people for the patio and opted instead for inside. Sitting for quite a while waiting for service we notice there are four empty tables on the patio. I asked for clarification from one of the staff and did not understand a word she said. Anyway, like I said .. it is a great place to take visitors ...absolutely lovely view ..."

  • "Visited for dinner several years ago, and then again last week. Both times it was an outstanding experience, and will visit again."

  • "We hadn't been to the Beach House in several years and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food - excellent - and wonderful service. The shared plates are amazing. We look forward to going again soon. It was extremely busy for a Tuesday night so be sure to make a reservation."

  • "We were there to celebrate both Father's Day and a 22nd birthday. We brought sparklers and a cake and the staff handled that part beautifully. Our meals were excellent. Can't beat the view and location ... will continue to be a favourite."

  • "I had suggested to friends that we go for dinner as I had enjoyed many meals there but not recently. I was disappointed with the meal that I had - seafood pie served with a small side salad - it was very bland and mostly just mashed potatoes. The noise level was awful, I struggled to hear what my friends were saying across the table and I felt that I was yelling in order to be heard."

  • "Love this dining spot in all kinds of weather. Must say this meal was not as fabulous as 2 years ago when I used to dine here frequently for romance and great food."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Seating arrangement was disorganized upon arrival. Other hostess was smug completely uneccesary. I requested patio seats when making reservation if not available or other information should have been communicated to myself."
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "We had brunch there and enjoyed it very much! The food was very good and our server (Nat) was excellent. The only downside was that we could not sit in the patio (which we requested but didn't get and were told the patio was open earlier and then "closed" due to rain. In the middle of our meal, we saw large group of people being seated in the patio (not sure if the patio was really "closed" or reserved for the group)."

  • "Overall the food was average at best. My wife and daughter both had the smoked salmon benny and the toast was so dry and hard they had to work at cutting it. Didn't send back as they both were too hungry"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Not a great wine list. better wines were $19 per glass..The food was okay..My salmon was served in a pea puree with little sprigs of pea shoots...and a few carrots...not high quality pairing for the calibre this restaurant is supposed to be.. The Halibut was dryer than expected...presentation was just okay..Honestly..I was disappointed.. The outdoor patio is nice with a view of the pier and ocean.. My guest drove in from the US and was not well after dinner....He was the only one who became ill so I am unsure the reason... All in all, If you want a dining experience that is nice and with a view of the ocean, go to the Beach House at Dundarave Pier....but if you are a foodie, you may be disappointed at the quality for the price."

  • "Too noisy should be the name of restaurant. The food quality is not in the top list, but the waitresses are very friendly."
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "The Beach House is perfect for outdoor dining in the summer months. Sunsets are beautiful. Excellent food, service and overall experience. Patio heaters add just enough warmth when the sun goes down."

  • "This is the second time we went to the Beach House. The menu is short but the items do cater to any taste buds. Portions are generous and tasty. Service was excellent, lots of care to the customers. Views are spectacular! The only negative thing i can add is the noise, much louder than i remembered on our firt time. We had on a few occasions repeat ourselves during our conversations, i believe that there was background music but can't even be sure? I however believe that this part of the whole experience so after your meal you can always take a quiet stroll On the seawall!"

  • "We were lucky enough to have a lovely sunny day and enjoyed the patio and the lovely ocean view. The halibut and chips were very good, light batter and crsipy fries. The menu is varied and will certainly come back again."

  • "Very inferior quality meals, overdone fish and generally uninspiring the dishes. Entertaining clients, so disappointed and slightly embarrassed It would seem to me that a restaurant which purports to specialize in seafood dishes would pride themselves on impeccable quality every time. Sadly this was not our experience. We reserved through Open Table for 6:45 and when we arrived there were 3 girls at the hostess station, none of whom could find our reservation. As it turned out, they did give us a very nice table so we were not disappointed there. I would like nothing more than to patronize this establishment again, as the location is second to none but all in our party really feel that the kitchen staff has to really up their game."

  • "We went on May 19, a Holiday Monday, and got the Brunch and limited Lunch menu which made for rather limited choices. I found the foccaiao bread served with my chowder was very dull and lifeless and not tasty. The pototoes in the chowder were underdone. The kale salad was interesting but I think the dressing on the kale salad needed to be a little sweeter. The toasted bun with the burger was very dry and crumbly. Coffee was poor. However the halibut and chips and coleslaw were great. "

  • "Very good menu with lots of "ocean wise" seafood. I would expect to see a better selection of white wine and Pinot noir to go with the seafood. I was pleased to see several very good BC wines on the wine list."
    Dined on 5/18/2014
  • "Dinner was great when it eventually arrived....we were seated at 7:15 and dinner was not served until almost 8:30. The service was exceptionally slow. "
    Dined on 5/13/2014
  • "We had an interesting assortment of "Share Plates," which made for a fun occasion, but we would give them mixed reviews, considering their relatively high prices. The Smoked Salmon Pressed Sushi was excellent and beautifully presented. The Wahoo Fish Tacos were basically bad: flavourless and overcooked small piece of fish, boring cabbage-y filling and bland tortilla -- really overpriced and should be taken off the menu unless improved. The Moule Frites (Salt Spring Island mussels) were tasty but not too memorable. The Crispy Thai Prawns were great with excellent presentation. The Dungeness Crab and Shrimp Tower was light and flavourful. "

  • "It was a special occasion and we chose this restaurant for its beautiful setting. The last visit we were were wowed. This visit was not a'wow'. We were seated in a corner away from the windows and once we were served our main courses, were left alone. I didn't feel very welcome nor very important."

  • "Great waterfront spot for a girls lunch or just a fun catchup. "

  • "The food is not as good as it once was. The service was poor; our server rarely checked on us or refilled our wine; and she didn't check to see if our meals were satisfactory. The first guest arrived 10-15 minutes prior to the rest of our group, and no one came to the table until the rest of the group arrived; perhaps she would have liked a drink? The prices for cocktails and wine by the glass, which were once reasonable, are much too high. Also, would it kill the hostesses to great guests with a smile? Beautiful setting; unfortunately that is the best thing about this restaurant now. Won't be going back."

  • "it was a special occasion. Four of us went to celebrate the last payment of our mortgage. The food was excellent, and the service competent and friendly. We have been to this restaurant many times before and it is consistently good, which is no small feat in the restaurant business. Many thanks for a memorable evening."

  • "We wanted to note that we requested a special table at the Beach House, and they delivered. This was much appreciated since we took guests for out of town, and they LOVED the ambience and view at sunset. As usual, the food was good and the service excellent."
