  • "Very much worth the drive from Calgary to Bragg Creek to dine at the Bavarian Inn. I love good German food and the Bavarian Inn did not disappoint. German food isn't complicated or "fancy", but it doesn't need to be. It's simple, good, food. And the Bavarian Inn does it right."

  • "Not to fancy so good to be able to hike in the area in the morning and then pop in for a beer and schnitzel."

  • "We have been to this restaurant a lot and are always satisfied. Except this time it was not what we came used too. The service was unusual slow ,slow had to ask a couple of time were the waiter was could not see him at times for 15 to 20 min. It was busy no doubt and i found him at the other side in the bar section and he was indeed very busy and must have forgotten about us. As a couple we recommend going during the week as it is not as busy or Sunday evening. Overall this is a nice place to go if you like good German/Swiss/Austrian food and the wine selection is superb."

  • "The Bavarian Inn is a hidden gem in Bragg Creek. Their menu is extensive, the food is delicious, the prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The restaurant offers authentic German dishes as well as other popular dishes and a chef's feature. During the months of March/April and September, the restaurant offers some items at a discounted price. The wine list at the Bavarian Inn is extensive. A very clean, inviting atmosphere. The owner is often present and it is evident that the ownership really take pride in their establishment. It has always been a positive experience for me, and is one of my favourite restaurants in the Calgary area."

  • "My husband and I wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the City so were pleasantly surprised by the peace and quiet of The Bavarian Inn. We were very pleased with our supper and also the portion size was adequate. I loved the warm friendly atmosphere and would definitely recommend the Inn to relatives and friends."

  • "The food is always fantastic. The goat cheese and beet salad is fantastic, and I had the schnitzel cordon bleu and my goodness was it amazing. All of the dishes are German food but they put a formal/fancy spin on the plating. Definitely worth every penny. The only complaint I had this time around was our server. She was a younger girl and it seemed like it was her first day, but she knew the items on the menu. She was making our drinks and she didn't put rimmer or lime in our caesar. We had to ask for bread at the table, and ask for refills of water. She didn't tell us the specials and we overheard them from another server at the table next to us. Duck lasagna? Um, yes please. If the server was better, you would have 5 stars."

  • "we celebrated our 42nd anniversary with another couple who were also celebrating the same milestone. They had never been here before but will definitely be returning, There are not enough superlatives to describe our experience from the initial greeting, the "champagne", the service, the food, the ambience to just touch on the highlights. We love this place and will continue to go foe special occasions and the not so special ones too."

  • "This was our first time to Bragg Creek, and this restaurant. We have driven by on numerous occasions. Reminded me of a hidden gem, because it reminded me of "Banff", without the two hour drive and park fees. Fantastic service, very attentive, very knowledgeable, accommodating, personable. The Food definitely met our expectations, flavourful, and a great variety on the menu. Would highly recommend !!!!!!! Will be back again !! Thank you for this wonderful experience in our own back yard !!!!!!!"

  • "Unassuming restaurant is 15 - 20 minutes drive west of Calgary nestled in the wooded forest of Bragg Creek. Inside the ambience is very homey and friendly; the view takes you into another 'zone' of peace and tranquillity. The food never disappoints. The Bavarian based menu is exceptional, and all is prepared in house by chef-owner, except for some of the delicious desserts supplied by local experts. Particularly recommend the tender seasonal game dishes. Prices are reasonable, for high quality and well seasoned dishes. Only a very limited selection of beer on tap, the wine list is more extensive. Friendly, unhurried service, so give yourself enough time to enjoy a leisurely meal."

  • "And hopefully this will be one of them. Been going for years and even after an ownership change (some time ago now) my favourite things are still on the menu and as good as they ever were."

  • "My wife & I went for dinner. The wiener schnitzel is outstanding. Our server was friendly, thorough and efficient. The appetizers were excellent and nothing beats home made apple strudel. It's a little far from the southend of Calgary, but worth the drive."

  • "BI is our "go to" for every family occasion! I must admit that I always get the Wiener Schnitzel and the dinner on Saturday was probably The Best I've ever had (6 stars). The rest of my group all insisted that theirs was amazing (Marco Polo, Pork Tenderloin and another Wiener Schnitzel). Although the Inn was busy, we did feel that the staff was less attentive than we've come to expect. Surprisingly, our server did not highlight the March Madness Menu (although the bill did reflect the promotional prices). But we are undeterred and look forward to our next visit, hopefully with improved service."

  • "Reservation made for 11.30 am and we arrived at 11.45 am. Couple of people in the restaurant but there was music - dead quiet in the restaurant. The place had a strong smell of "Shout"(spot remover). We ordered Gulash and a potato soup with the Bavarian Inn salad. The Goulash was very salty and when I asked for a bun/bread the waitres looked stunned. We received the bread after 15 minutes. Salad was good but not fantastic. For mains wee have ordered the Cordon Bleu. I have read that it is prepared with veal - the meat tasted like pork. When I asked the waitres if this was porkshe replied " yes - it is pork". The Cordon Bleu was very greasy (almost dripping oil). The pan fried potatoes very greasy too. I will never eat here again."

  • "German food is a favorite of ours. We have tried other restaurants in Calgary that try to cook German food but the Bavarian Inn really does it well. Everything we had was delicious. It reminded me of the great meals I had in Germany. We were really impressed with all the staff. They were all very friendly and personable. I think it says a lot when the chef comes around to talk to each table and see how we have been enjoying the dinner. I can't wait to go back."

  • "Food was outstanding. Service not so much. We had no bread delivered to our table. My wife waited 25 minutes for her glass of wine. It was 40 minutes before our water was refilled. Our meal took over an hour to arrive after we ordered it. Once it arrived it was outstanding fresh, hot and very good, We will return and recommend the Restaurant to friends."

  • "The Bavarian Inn is one of the go-to spots for my husband and I on special occasions. Previous to last night's experience, the service has always been top notch. Last night however, the service was dismal. Our waitress was virtually nonexistent after taking our initial order. She didn't bother going over the specials, knew nothing about the drink menu or wine pairings and didn't bring out any bread (and I'm not just being snooty here. These were all services cheerfully offered without asking on previous visits). She didn't even bother to see if we needed drink refills until I basically yelled at her from across the room. The other wait staff were just as absent and grumpy. The food, however, was excellent and plentiful."

  • "This place has over the years become one of my favorites. I've never had a bad meal nor has the separate members of my family that keep returning. We went as a group on Valentine's Day & as usual, both the items off their Sweetheart menu and their regular were amazing (the Rouladen is to die for & I'm told now that so is the Elk Cordon Bleu)! The ambiance is always cheerful & cozy without being cramped & every server I've ever had there has always been knowledgeable & friendly. I know I can recommend this place to people without being concerned that they wouldn't have the same experience. Any bad reviews from here have to be from people that don't know real dining experiences & would be just as happy to go to Denny's as The Bavarian Inn."

  • "By far the best restaurant in the Bragg Creek area. We went on Valentine's day and while busy, we were welcomed immediately. We shared an appetizer and soup, each had our own entre and dessert and were more than satisfied due to the generous portiion sizes. I enjoyed the Buffalo Rouladen which was out of this world! The Bavarian Inn affords the opportunity to try dishes you can't find elsewhere and the unique flavours are amazing. Definitely worth the drive out from Calgary and a wonderful find if you live locally."

  • "Love this restaurant for location. Situated in beautiful Bragg Creek and nestled in between trees and in a natural setting. The food is always delicious, but I have found the service inconsistent. Last visit we were seated, and shortly after, a number of other groups arrived. Although we ordered quickly, we watched as everyone else around us received their meals ahead of us. We had a very young "new" server, who was efficient and pleasant and when we mentioned the concern, he just gave a quick reply of "sorry, we had a mix up". The compensation for their error was to bring a basket of bread with our meal once it did come. We would have preferred being offered a dessert instead."

  • "Each course keeps out doing the next. So different from any other restaurant. Service is excellent without being annoying. Seemed to be a lot regular customers there, which is easy to understand. We will definitely be returning sometime soon. The prawn appetizer was exceptionionally good but I am told the soup is excellent as well."

  • "We really appreciate the high quality european dishes that are not only extremely flavourful, but nicely presented. Unfortunately for me, the "Geschnetzeltes followed by the Raspberry desert" are so good, that I rarely venture outside of those menu items. My wife as well as many of our friends however have tried many other dishes off the menu and I have never heard anything negative. The food quality is consistent, the service however fluctuates between OK and fantastic, depending on who is serving. The fact that Chef Josef visits each table, in good European fashion, is something that is greatly appreciated."

  • "This was our first visit here as we try to visit somewhere new once a month. The night was cold but the welcome warm. We were served drinks quickly but the red wind was in white wine glasses. We had to wait 20 minutes to order food following this which was borderline to long. The food was gorgeous though, the server pleasant, and the visit by Josef the owner a nice touch. The bill worked out at app $75 per head incl drinks and three courses We will definitely revisit again and have no hesitation in recommending The Bavarian Inn to anyone."

  • "What a find! Their focus is on execllent food& a place where family & freinds can dine in a lively setting. Our food was amazing. the menu consists of Elk and duck & wild boar...all of which are difficult to find on most Calgary menus. They aslo have all the usual protiens but we opted for the unusual. All the dishes were expertly prepared with a German flair, like red cabbage and spaetzle sides. Yum! The elk cordon bleu was amazing, elk medalions super tender & the wild boar, sumptuous! The sides were fresh, tasty,& different for each dish (a sign of a very good restaurant). We opted for desert, which was a mistake. While they were spectacular, there was little room left after the dinner and starter.Go & enjoy, you won't be sorry you did!"

  • "This is always an amazing experience, to locals and those that want a short 30-45 min drive from downtown Calgary to have a great time. The Balarian Inn was open the week after the flood, and most businesses have been open for months, but the tourist trade is down dramatically. Please come out and dine here, and support a wonderful local business with great food, service and tons of appreciation."

  • "We had an early reservation for New Years Eve for 2. Our son decided to join us, Josef was kind enough to extend our reservation to 3 even though they were fully booked. My son and I had the pumpkin soup which we both agreed was delicious. I had the scallops as a 2nd appetizer and it was equally delicious. I had the Arctic Char for an entree while my son and husband had the Beef Wellington. My Char melted in my mouth...so good. The boys enjoyed the beef and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the spinach add on, which you don't see offered often. We are fairly regular guests at the Bavarian Inn and especially love the special events they offer. My only complaint was the very vocal young child sitting close to us. Keep up the good work."

  • "We had a get together with my friends from High School who get together once a year for the past 30 years. they seated us at a round table in the center which was perfect multiple conversations without leaving people out at the end of a long table which has often been the case at other restaurants. our server was friendly playful and very efficient. water glasses were always full, empty plates were swiftly removed and generally we were very well cared for. The highlight, though was the food. everyone of us had very positive comments. people had wiener shnitzel, elk, buffalo, beef and chicken. all were deliciously prepared with crisp fresh vegetables, spaetzel and roasted potatoes. all and all, an extremely good experience!"
