The Bauer Kitchen is an energetic up-market 'bistro' set in a SoHo inspired, restored felt factory. The industrial steel, concrete floors, reclaimed wood and custom lighting combine to create a uniquely warm backdrop for your dining experience. Our Executive Chef Michael Hodgson has assembled a spectacular menu of classic items prepared with the freshest local ingredients.   • "Food was very reasonably priced, so was our alcholic drink with fresh fruit. Out appetizer was brought to us, missing the bacon jam and it was replaced with bacon. Maybe because I'm young they thought they could pull one over on me, but I told my server and he went to find out the problem. Turns out they ran out of bacon jam and instead of asking me if it's ok they gave me strips of bacon... After that, our burger came very well done with soft (not crispy) sweet potatoe fries. Also out plates were extremely hot, such that the person servering out food had to use a cloth to carry it and warm me not to touch it. This could only mean that the plates were under the heat lamps for quite a while or microwaved... Anyways our server was the best."

  • "Father's day was the reason we were there but it was all about mommy! The food was so delicious. My 4 year old had the kids french toast which cut like butter and she ate every bite, my husband enjoyed a large burger and sweet potato fries and I had the delicious short rib gnocchi. Every bite was flavored perfectly. Even the two year old's pizza was good. And the watermelon mojito...yum!"

  • "I made a reservation for my parents and I to celebrate my university graduation. Our experience was phenomenal from start to finish! We had a great table, our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, the drinks and food were to die for, and the environment was lively yet relaxing. I am also a server so I am always very appreciative of good service - our server went above and beyond that! She was very helpful in explaining items and making suggestions based on our tastes. She arrived at the perfect times and was personable enough to start little conversations with us. She was phenomenal."

  • "We were celebrating a special event in the area and had lunch at TBK afterwards. We arrived early for our reservation but were seated immediately anyway. Service was exceptional and the meal came altogether and in a timely fashion. Not disappointed in any aspect and would highly recommend the venue."

  • "We started with the French Onion Fondue which was great, the highlight of the meal. For the main, I had had the pickerel special. It was bland with little or no seasoning. It sat on an avocado sauce that was just creamed avocado. There was no flavour to the topping on the pickerel, I'm not even sure what it was. The side was a couscous that again was flavourless and oily. My companions had steaks that were tough and one under done. Our server did not bring the meals and wasn't back to check on things for over twenty minutes. The service seems disjointed with 4 people waiting on us. The restaurant wasn't busy but we were seated in the corner outside the washrooms. We went for a birthday celebration and were very disappointed."

  • "All-around good food & a good time. I live close to the Bauer Kitchen, it's perfect. I can walk on the iron horse trail and not worry about how many of their delicious and unique cocktails I have. The menu is amazing, everything is absolutely delicious! I'm a foodie and whenever I have guests we always go to Bauer. I keep thinking 'maybe i should try something new' and then I don't. Because I just trust Bauer to be amazing every time. "

  • "We went for a surprise birthday. We didn't want a big deal with the singing and shouting so we told the wait staff when she asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. Two people who came wanted to share two meals and sample them both. They came out on four separate plates so they could have their own portion. This was a pleasant surprise! At the end of the meal the waitress brought a piece of fruit cake soaked in rum as a small treat for the birthday boy. Was a great evening."

  • "We have eaten at the Bauer Kitchen twice. Once a few months ago and the food and service were great. This time when we went it was early in the evening 5pm and I had made reservations. The restaurant was empty and they tried to sit us at a tiny table in a dark area that backed onto the bar pushed up against all of the glasses. I could understand it if the bar was busy or I had not made reservations, but this was not the case. Also, I had to keep waving the waitress down for service (and there were a lot of waitresses around, no shortage of available waitresses). I shouldn't have to ask for a spoon for my coffee or the water. Really disappointed this time. Service definitely inconsistent."

We all had different meals and all were very good. We shared the fondue and we that was very good as well. We would definitely come here again. The server was very pleasant and attentive. It wasn't really busy as it was a Sunday evening which made it quiet but we were able to enjoy everyone's conversation. "

  • "This is my second time dining at the Bauer Kitchen, although the first time was a couple of years ago. The ambiance, and general 'eye appeal' was as good as I had remembered. It is a modern setting, filled with vibrant younger professionals and seasoned veterans alike. Although the setting was wonderful, and fits well with the Uptown Waterloo location, the service and food quality left something to be desired. The waiter had very little knowledge of the menu items. When asked if particular item's were, he had very little to say other than "It's a popular dish." Once food arrived, there were several with some of the meals being overcooked. Overall, although it is a nice atmosphere, I probably wont choose to dine at the Bauer Kitchen again."

  • "Love Bauer kitchen and go often but Sunday lunch with an out-of-town friend as a disappointment. She loved the scene and the ambiance, but our TBK salads with chicken were just bad. Dry dry chicken chunks on a tasteless underdressed salad. Pls do better to match the scene with the food!"
