Diner Reviews
  • "Had lunch with a friend. Food was good, service was great, and the best part was the quiet atmosphere. We could actually carry on a conversation. I love their fruit infused water...it's the best in town."

  • "They should pay more attention to the appearance of the restaurant. The upholstery in the booths must be replaced sit is worn out and looks terrible!"

  • "This is our first time dining here and the food was amazing! My husband & I had the linguini carbonara & the chicken eggplant Parmesan - fabulous! Service was very good. We certainly will go back there again!"

  • "Service was great (I wished I remembered her name - she was awesome!) and the food was just as good. I wanted to try everything on the menu but I had to be polite because I was on a date.Lol. I will definitely be back. Hopefully with my date (she actually recommended this spot) or on my own. See you again soon!"

  • "I have been to the Basil Leaf several times. It is a great brunch spot. Reservations are recommended. On this visit the service was not up to the usual par. Our waiter forgot to bring requested items several times, coffee wasn't refilled in a timely manner, etc. Also the brunch buffet was a bit slow to be refilled and the line for omelettes/waffles was too long of a wait. Still...the food was very good and we had brunch on the veranda which is always a nice way to start the day. I would return. Hopefully they were just having a tough morning."

  • "Very accommodating for our group of eight celebrating four birthdays between us. The ambiance is relaxed and the wait staff attentive. The food is very good although on the pricey side considering soup or salad are not included. The dessert selection is varied but $7 for a slice of chocolate cake (as rich and chocolatey as it was) is a bit steep."

  • "There are four of us that meet every month for dinner. We chose all different restaurants. We dine early 5:30 and usually stay for two hours, providing we aren't intruding on other diners. The Bail Leaf offered a wonderful dinner with out a rush. We had a glass of wine, a salad, and then our entree. Had a nice FRESH cup of coffee. Excellent service, wonderful food and nice atmosphere."

  • "We went back to Basil Leaf Cafe for lunch the other day for lunch - hadn't been there in a while as we've been making the rounds. Service was very good and my request to modify a dish to make it vegetarian was accommodated very willingly. Food was very good. I look forward to returning soon."

  • "I always enjoy dining here with friends for lunch or dinner. The food is reliably good quality with friendly wait staff. The ambience is pleasant with Italian decor. It feels like a small bistro. The outdoor dining is great in balmy weather. Danville is a lovely town and this restaurant is located in the historic area with cute shops and weekend nightlife."

  • "There were 5 in our group today (4 people could not make it at the last minute). We all enjoyed the food and the service. The table was ready for us when we got there. Could not ask for a better experience for our lunch group."

  • "Not overly busy for a Valentine Dinner service. Love the ambiance. Nice selection of dishes, and a few nice specials. Enjoyed the sweet Italian bread and dipping oil. Reminded me of grandma's. We will certainly make this a monthly rotation."

  • "Everything was delicious. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. Unfortunately I did observe something that was not ok. This comment was the fault of one person and I did not rate this restaurant based upon the following comment. I saw an employee preparing a very attractive dessert, he opened up a package of fresh blueberries and took a handful to finish off the dessert. He did not wash the berries!"

  • "The food was good but the service was very poor. We sat for 25 minutes before our waiter even showed up. He said there was confusion about which waiter should be serving the table. The whole time we waited many waiters walked by but none even took the time to see if there was a problem. Finally one said someone would be with us soon. My wife finally got up and went and spoke to the hostess. Only then did our waiter finally show up. Even then the service was only mediocre. The food was pretty good but, the waiter brought me a different salad than I ordered. All in all, it was not a great experience. It has been awhile since I have been to this restaurant but, the service level has really fallen off."

  • "Last Sunday I went to brunch at Basil Leaf. I called ahead before making a 2:00 pm reservation. I inquired if 2:00 was enough time for the brunch. I was assured by the person who answered the phone, that it would be no problem. When we arrived we were told there was only 30 minutes left of brunch. At 2:20 the food was 80 percent gone. no refill of champagne or orange juice. When I asked to speak to the manager I was told she ran out to get orange juice because they ran out. This brunch was a huge disappointment, we were charged full price no apology."

  • "As a couple that loves a great brunch, we think this is a great find. It's almost always sunny and warm in th east bay, so the deck is a great place to enjoy this breakfast buffet with bottomless mimosas. Waitresses never let a glass sit empty, and there is plenty of food for the breakfast and lunch eaters in your crew. Waffles and omelettes are great, fruit is fresh and pastries are a nice end to the meal. Neighborhood welcomes an after brunch stroll. Parking is abundant and free on Sundays."

  • "I host trainings in the area where people come from all over the world to attend and I hold our celebration dinner at Basil Leaf because they do such a great job with groups of around 12. Everything was great and we were the last ones to leave. They did not rush us out. Thank you Basil Leaf."

  • "The food was delicious but a bit pricey. The wine list was short, we we saw some people bringing in their own wine, so maybe they allow that. Is was small but loud on a Friday night, so not a great romantic spot, but it was a fun spot to go with family and friends."

  • "We met some friends for New Years Day brunch. The made to order omelets and waffles were a hit with our group. Nice selection at a good price. I had to give a low rating for the service because our waiter was not very attentive to our table. Being it was brunch about the only thing he had to do for us was refill our drinks and clear our plates. However we had to flag him down to ask for refills and ended up asking 3 times over the course of about 20 minutes for a refill on a mimosa. Had the gratuity not automatically been added to our bill we may not have given him as much of a tip. Hopefully he had to split it with the bus boy because the bus boy was the only one doing a good job."

  • "Basil Leaf is our go-to weekend brunch spot. Not cheap, but rock solid every time. The recently added eggs cooked to order (in addition to the made to order omelets) is great. Coffee is excellent!"

  • "We went to Basil Leaf for lunch on a Sunday. We decided we wanted lunch, not the brunch buffet. That was our mistake. Technically, I guess we had a waitress. She just didn't seem to realize what that meant. Our table was ignored for more than 10 minutes after we were seated. I had to get the menus myself and ask the hostess whether anyone was working our table. When the waitress finally appeared, she apologized, took our drink order -- and then forgot to bring one of the drinks. After the food finally came, we were ignored for the rest of our meal. She didn't even bring our check; I had to get it myself after waiting way too long. If they really don't want to serve lunch on Sunday, then they shouldn't say they do."

  • "The salad looked uninteresting and routine ... I did not have one. Cup of soup was very good. The entrees were better than I remember them being in the past there. Wild mushroom risotto was excellent! My husband was very happy with the clam linguini in white sauce. Will put it back on the list for dinner!"

  • "When we are looking for a relaxed dinner when we know we will get great food at reasonable prices and friendly efficient service, this is it. When its warm the outside deck and sidewalk tables are our preferred location."

  • "It was fun for brunch and the service was generous. It would have been nice to have a meat choice like chicken or meatballs at the buffet so it wan't just pasta and eggs and bacon choices for people who want to eat more healthy."
    Dined on 11/17/2013
  • "We really loved the flavorful oil to dip our bread in, best ever! The entree that we both choose was very tasty and delightful but for me it had a bit more butter to my palate. Our glasses was filled with refreshing fruity water. It's our second time there and would come back again"

  • "Not a great place for talking as the noise level was off the charts when we arrived at 11:30 on a Sunday for brunch. My friends were 3 feet away from me and I couldn't hear a thing. The buffet was nice but some items weren't hot and the omelet bar was too busy to wait since I wanted my food right away. My friends who ordered off the menu had to wait over 20 minutes for their food so I guess the buffet was the main issue for the kitchen. I won't go there again for a time to catch up with friends since you can't hear anything when they are at their peak time on Sunday."
