Historically I've loved The Barge's broiled red snapper. But the last 3 times that I've visited, the portions have been small and not as well prepared. The french fries, that should be crispy, are soggy. The service was slower than normal Friday night. Will go back again. Hopefully my wife and I will have a better experience next time.

The menu choices are extensive, the portions are generous, and the food is tasty. Add to this a waterside view at sunset and you have the makings for a pleasant evening. The prices are reasonable as well, so the whole experience comes out as a winner. I'll definitely be back!

We had a table on the patio, the weather was perfect, the food was great, the entertainment was great. Enjoyed your time there. Stayed for 3 hours, was not rushed to leaved, in fact they seemed to encourage us to stay and enjoy the night there. Will go back there on a Friday or Saturday night, will ask for a patio table (weather permitting), and will bring friends to share the fun.

Hostess made for a bad experience. She's not only rough around the edges, she has no reservations about reprimanding wait staff in front of guests. I went for Maine lobster, it was certainly not fresh. I will probably never go back, unless I hear of upgrades to this town landmark. Other local restaurants are ahead in quality of food, service and providing a worthwhile experience.

The server made excuses for not getting my water after asking 3 times. My appetizer came out on a dirty plate you can see the finger prints in it. I ask to see the manager her came didn't apologize just said i will get you what you need. As we walked out we told the host why we were leaving she then said oh well sit inside and the service would be better. I was at the Resturant on 7/11 it was my wedding anniversary which started off bad but I end up going to the armory and they did a wonderful job!

It is a beautiful view down at the water. Outdoor seating in the warm weather makes the setting relaxing. Been here many times, but on this night the food was not good. Over cooked and cold. Service was just horrible. Had I not had better experiences previously, I would never return based upon this night's meal. Hopefully it was just a bad night and not a sign of a restaurant on the decline.

we'd eaten there before, several times before "sandy" hit a few yrs ago....usually a week-day lunch....nothing on the "special" menu appealed to me...my husbands london broil looked like stew....or something out of a dog food can....the fish on my sea food platter was so flat it was like back to back breading....the scallops were good, though.... the waiter was great...made the experience more palatable....oh, the soup i had, manhattan style clam chowder, was very good....

A colleague of my husband recommended The Barge for celebrating our birthdays. It was about a 40 minute trip but well worth it. We started with the Long Island Steamers which were outstanding! Sweet and sand-free....just yummy!! Hubby got the Broiled Scallops which were magnificent! If I go back, I will order the lobster steamed not broiled. There was way too much garlic and bread crumbs on it which completely masked the flavor of the lobster. The tamale was missing (my favorite part) and it was generally just too dry. All in all a very nice experience and I would recommend it to anyone!

Had fun dining outside. The entertainment was cheesy but fun. Participated in a 20 question trivia game that was entertaining but did distract from the meal. But I choose to participate, I didn't have to. The music drew in passersby which added to an entertaining evening.

We used to live in the area and dined often at the Barge. We went last week to celebrate our 45th anniversary. We had a wonderful waiter who was friendly and attentive. I was looking forward to the lobster newburg which had always been my favorite dish. It was disappointing. While there was plenty of lobster, the newburg sauce was thin and runny and had no sherry. It was actually tasteless. The home fries were also tasteless. The chef needs to season the food. On the plus side, my husband's lobster tails were quite good and my clams on the half shell were fresh and delicious. The prices are very reasonable and the cocktails were well made. Overall I would probably not return unless I am in the area.

I made our reservation through open table but the hostess could not find our name but seated our party of 4 anyway. I went back to her to discuss the mixup, she informed me she didn't check the computer reservations only the the phoned in reservations. Our waiter was pleasant & very attentive. Our meal at the Barge was OK but nothing special. I had had the Stuffed Shrimp. There was 3 large shrimp of high quality & cooked properly but the crab meat stuffing was bland, almost tasteless. Stuffed shrimp is one of my favorite meals & this was in the bottom third of the hundreds of times I have had this dish. I am not very critical in general but I won't be coming back as the meal was very so-so, not terrible but not worth coming back for.

First experience there and they do not accommodate babies. Place is very small and crowded andtherefore very loud. I heard everyone else's conversation except for the one at my table. Food was good, since its seafood, expect to pay out. If you plan on going there, its for romantix occasions, not a family gathering, especially when babies are involved.

We had a good experience overall. The staff was friendly and waiter did a good job. I just had a few issues with my food. I asked for my steak well-done and I had to send it back. I asked for a side of yellow rice and it was very mushy and lukewarm. Also the butters that were served with the bread - the bottoms very dirty with food particles as if they had been taken off a dirty dish and given to us. We had a larger group so everyone else was happy with they ordered.

This restaurant has been on the Perth Amboy waterfront for a very long time. That being said, The Barge was renovated due to the damage done by Hurricane Sandy. Despite the renovations, the decor is very bland when it could be made quite charming very easily with a few additions. Also they had a radio station playing so you heard the commercials too which was somewhat distracting. My waiter was efficient and friendly. The lobster was delicious and my friend had the lobster combination which had a nice variety of seafood. The scallops were large and cooked perfectly. The dinners come with a salad that looks very sad. It is mainly lettuce, one slice of cucumber and some carrot shavings, I will pass on it next time.

We had the Sweetheart dinner and found it to be very good, if not excellent. Both the Lobster tail and the Filet Mignon were very good. The service was cordial, timely, and complete. Our server was very pleasant and friendly. We dined in the main dineing room as opposed to the lounge and found that the ambiance was a little lacking but alright for a neighborhood restaurant.

This was the 2nd time my wife and I went to what was our favorite restaurant in the Perth Amboy area prior to Superstorm Sandy. . We had been going for over 25 years at least once a month. We have a shore house in Tuckerton Beach during the summer and we still would come up to The Barge for dinners. The service is pretty much the same but the food quality is terrible as compared prior to the storm. The steaks had no taste, very fibery and tough and the seafood overcooked. The salad was just lettuce.. What happened to the tomato and unions? The prices went up but the quality went down. Overall it was a terrible dining experience on both occasions.

I recently visited The Barge for my mother's birthday dinner. The lobster was outstanding as was the Manhattan Clam Chowder. The service was top-notch. I never had to search for the waiter. However, the one major problem is the lack of space. There are many too tables in the main dining room and I felt a bit cramped. I had to walk sideways at times to get to my table.
