A word from The Bank and Baron Pub
We welcome you to The Bank & Baron, reclaimed within The Bank of Nova Scotia building, which is recognized among one of Alberta's most historical. This grand space has been unlocked and a new downtown landmark awaits you.

The Bank of Nova Scotia is located in the heart of Calgary's infamous Stephen Avenue, the pulse of downtown. This avenue was named after George Stephen, 1st Baron Mount Stephen. He was the financial genius behind the creation of the Canadian Pacific Railway, the President of the Bank of Montreal and is remembered as one of the greatest philanthropists of his time. In honor of the significant history Baron Mount Stephen imparted into the fostering of Calgary's culture (1930 - present), we have brewed The Bank & Baron P.U.B.

The Bank & Baron is a place where a Traditional Public Urban Bar taps into a historical avenue destination. Crafting any event from a momentous occasion to an exquisite celebration can be effortlessly drafted.

Hostess was very welcoming. Really cool interior, loved the stained glass window on the ceiling. I asked for sparkling water and I got a huge bottle, no small bottles available. Waitress was great. When our food came, I had the wrong side. So they switched it for me. My friend thought her meal was the right one, but she had forgotten what she ordered... Anyhow we actually did get another table's meals, we just happened to order very similar dishes. It was someone from the kitchen who brought the food out, not the waitress. Anyhow apart from some apparent disorganization in the kitchen, the food was good and we enjoyed it.

Our server was pleasant however the food came out in the wrong order, such as the soup with the steak, instead of with the salmon. Also, wine glasses were empty before someone came by to check.

Went to the B&B last week for lunch with a colleague. Service was great and the steak sandwich was quite good. Beer selection was great and the best part is the atmosphere. This is a cool place.

Great spot. I've walked past it a few times since it opened in Feb, but just tried it now. The menu was great, the service was great. Unlike so many Calgary lunch spots these days, the place wasn't blasting music so loud that you can't talk. It's a great spot for a business lunch.

All in an OK place to go for lunch if you have the time. Service was great, but had a long wait until our food arrived. I had a Kobe burger, which was a bit dry. Probably because I had it without cheese, but that should not make the difference. Good atmosphere and very friendly staff. I will go back there some time for lunch.

I've been to the Bank and Baron a handful of times and while it's good for an after work drink (half price bottles of wine on Thursday) I wouldn't want to do much more than that. The service in ordering even just a bottle of wine was bad (couldn't hear the server, no napkins, didn't return for an hour, etc.) so I wouldn't imagine a great experience when food is also involved.

I met a friend for lunch on a Wednesday. The service was quick and friendly and the food was great. I had the steak flatbread which was more than enough for one person. I ended up taking half with me. It was quite tasty. I used to go for lunch on the weekend, but they switched to only the brunch menu instead of the full menu and there isn't much choice. So, I will only be going there for lunch on the weekend if I am in the mood for breakfast food.

  • Brunch, 0 energy, and Football?

I heard they showed NCAA football so I booked a reservation for lunch on Saturday. The restaurant was mostly empty and the hostess was nowhere to be found so I had to track her down to insure I was "checked in" for OpenTable. The bar tender was friendly and attentive, and they had the NCAA football that I was interested in showing on a TV over the bar. Brunch isn't what I'm interested in eating while watching football, but they had an egg topped burger on the menu that was close enough to football food. They brought the wrong food, but politely and promptly made a new order which I appreciated. However, a zero energy empty bar isn't what I'm looking for in a place to watch NCAA football.

I have been here a number of times and plan on returning. The atmosphere and décor are very nice although it can get a bit loud but hey, it's Calgary. I have experienced good service and bad service. On my last visit our server was prompt and courteous and the food came out quickly. This compared much better than my previous visit when we waited over an hour for our food. Overall food quality has been good but it would be nice to see the Bank and Baron improve the consistency of its service levels.

Service was ok - the food runners are super busy while the servers seem to hang around at the bar waiting for drink orders. We had to wait to ask our server for side plates for our appies when they should have been at the table when the appies arrived. One of the side plates had some green stuff stuck on it. The food was quite tasty though (have the chocolate fondue for dessert YUM!!) ... but wow is it noisy in there. There really is no need to have booming, nightclub type volume for a lunch crowd. We couldn't even hear each other over the table even after we asked the server to turn it down.

Just went to see what the old Banke space looked like. The hostess didn't even say a word after we said who our reservation was for I'm just walked away with a menu is not knowing if we were supposed to follow her. Our server came to our table every 3 or 4 minutes constantly rushing us to make our order and after we had our food, continued to make us feel like we had to rush our meal and leave. Very unprofessional and felt like the servers were from Dennys instead of a classy establishment. We will never go back again. Total impression was very rookie & bush league.

Me and 2 of friends had just left from a play at 10:30pm Tuesday night, looking for a late night bite / drinks downtown. We got to the pub - which looks absolutely AMAZING inside - and took a seat. The music was a little loud for a mostly-empty pub....loud music in a mostly empty pub makes the place seem overbearing. After sitting around for 10-15 minutes, eventually the manager asked if we had been helped yet, and took our drink and food order. He mentioned that we had 8 minutes to place our food order before the kitchen closed. The food arrived - a salad and "truffle chips". The food was really good. Drinks were good too. But like most "late-night" places in Calgary, it's truly not late-night during the week.

We visited the bank and baron on a wimb. It was my fiance's birthday and she looked up new restaurant calgary online and we wound up there. The table we were seated at initially was too small for 2 people to dine at but we were moved easily when we asked. Our server was perfect. She did everything fast and right she was there when we needed her and gone when we didn't and our glasses never sat empty. I did feel that the music was loud and inappropriate for a dining atmosphere though i do understand it's a pub. It's been my experience that pubs that are looking to feature there kitchen will wait until the club hours say 9-10pm before turning up the volume over a conversational volume. The building was beautiful and the food was excellent.

Recommended for the nice atmosphere, great ambiance. This was my 3 time at Bank & Baron (in a old bank) truly Think of 'Great Gasby' overall inside upstairs on the balcony a great place to sit for a view, a table near the fireplace is cozy better for conversation. As for the patio tables are limited its is ok Most of the staff are young mature professionals, nice. Happy to meet your requests Thank you THE BURGERS are great tasting serving size is good the wedge fries tasty too. ok $$. King size scallops nice tasting. The steak sandwich ok for me,yet my husband was still wanting more for the $$ the side Kale salad different to try once. Lunch is good or after work appetizers.Hope to see, over time more menu choices for dinner too. Enjoy

I visited the Bank & Baron for lunch with some female colleagues. The food was very good. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the service. It took several minutes for someone to come and get us drinks after we were seated. We then waited long periods of time in between getting our drinks and having someone come to the table so we could place our food order. After we finished eating, and our plates were cleared, no one stopped by our table at all. We had to flag down a waitress to get our bill. I will likely go back and give it another try because the service during previous experiences was much better. However, if the service is poor again it will likely be the last time I have lunch there.

Used the reservation system and requested a patio table. Arrived to check in to hear the hostess tell a walk in customer that she was getting the last patio table. Didn't think much as I assumed that there was still the reserved table for my party. NOPE. had to sit near the bar on the main aisle. No sense using Open table for this establishment.

Came with a larger group reservation one day after work and it was a nice day out so we asked to be seated on the patio. Although she explained larger parties like that couldn't be accommodated on the patio, she could have been more professional. We were told we could try but "would have to deal with the consequences" which I found rather unpleasant. Our group basically went outside ourselves to see if we could shift some tables but were unsuccessful. We ended up sitting inside because of the particular hostess' behaviour regarding the situation which left things on a slightly sour note. On a more positive note, our waitress was really pleasant and friendly and everyone enjoyed the food that was ordered.
