Diner Reviews
  • "One of the best dinners I've ever had. A warm, charming atmosphere. Innovative, beautifully prepared food served with pride and care by a wonderful, personable staff who are clearly excited about their restaurant. I would go back to Minneapolis just to eat here. "

  • "Everything we were served was delicious and cooked perfectly. They didnt put salt or pepper on the table because the chef actually knew how to season properly. It was a great night out, good atmosphere, wonderful food. The only complaint is that the lemon cake dessert we had - the cake was a little dry. But I'm not really a dessert person so the dessert didn't bother me."

  • "The food was very nicely prepared and unique. It is pricey. "

  • "Service and food quality did not disappoint. Flavors jumped at you. Uniqueness of the menu was the reason we came, and left fully satisfied. Wait staff was casual and on toip of their game. Brought by a special appetizer on the house - speciaty beet dish. Outstanding. Tables are a bit tight, but not unusual for this type of restaruant. I would get a booth next time. Likely would require making a reservation well in advance. Strongly recommend the Marvel bar in the basement of this restaurant. We went after dinner, but I think before dinner drinks in this unusual 20's era prohibition type venue. Cocktails are their signature. Good luck finding the front door. No names, entry therough a service door. What a find."

  • "The Bachelor Farmer was a very accommodating restaurant with great food. The service was fantastic with their recommendations as well as helping to deal with my date's allergies. I had a great experience, and I am sure I will be going there again in the future."

  • "TBF never disappoints. The wines-by-the-glass chalkboard is genius. The food is unfailingly superb. A great night as usual."

  • "We have had the good fortune to dine a Bachelor Farmer on several occasions. We have brought our kids twice. They are now 13 and 14. They are adventurous eaters so they love it there. We were actually using a gift card that they gave me for Christmas. I believe they do this so that they get to join us! Anyway the service was outstanding and the food was delicious and the pacing was perfect. We started out with the steak tartar and the groaning board, (a wonderful meat variety with lots of toast). Two of us enjoyed the lamb leg and sausage and loved it, my husband had the Wieninleike and was in heaven and our 14 year old had the poached duck egg entree which had amazing flavors. I almost wish I had ordered it. It was a fantastic evening."

  • "Great service...our table was waiting, and they selected one with a view. Our food was great, and so was the wine. They comped us a few treats in honor of our anniversary, which were delicious! Wish we had room for dessert. Will definitely be back!"

  • "We had a late reservation but showed up early for a drink at the Marvel Bar hoping they could get us in earlier. We just got served our finely crafted drinks when we got called to sit down earlier than our reservation ( good idea to show up early). The meal was great but out waitress was uneven with delivery. She was prompt with explaining the menu and getting us appetizers, but then we didn't see her for quite a long time, except when she cleared our drink glasses too early, with one of our party still nursing a $50 cocktail. She did replace it ( although not with the same level if alcohol). We finally had to flag her down to place our meal order. We weren't on a time schedule so hanging out wasn't an problem but I hope is the exception"

  • "Bachelor Farmer has been so hyped and so hard to get a reservation we arrived excited and were prepared to be blown away. The food we had was prepared well but not remarkable as far as menu choices, taste or presentation. Our server was good but seemed to be overloaded. The restaurant was loud, tables awfully close together. We left disappointed."

  • "My friend and I dined there on a Friday night - we were thrilled we managed to get a reservation. The ambience is pleasant, though felt a bit spartan. I ordered the fish special. The Haddock was a bit bland. My friend ordered the pork and enjoyed his meal. The superstar was the red cabbage side and the scallops appetizer. The fried brown potatoes came on a bed of quasi-sauerkraut-an odd combo. Dessert was a custard with a very tart currant type of topping - too much contrast. Food was good, atmosphere really noisy. Lots of other restaurants I will try before returning"

  • "Through and through this restaurant hit high marks on all accounts. Local farm to table and also impressively creative and high quality, this was the perfect blend of special occasion with homegrown charm."

  • "I'm not sure what I was expecting but I haven't had such a salty meal in ages. None of us could finish our entrees or appetizers because of this. Drinks were good, waitstaff was attentive initially but as the dining hour progressed she got overwhelmed apparently and we didn't see much of her. I'd give it another try, maybe they were having an off night."

  • "The Bachelor Farmer has been my favorite restaurant in Minneapolis even beating out the 112 Eatery. This time, having eaten at both restaurants this week, I have to say that the flavors just didn't meld well and the food was not as exciting as usual. TBF always has an creative menu, an expensive wine list with glasses and half-bottles frequently available. The service is good and cheery."

  • "This place was absolutely amazing! I went for my 30th birthday on a Tuesday night, and this experience made my day! We started down at the Marvel Bar, where drinks are not just about throwing some liquor and a mixer together, but an entire experience. The bartenders love what they do, are friendly, offer great suggestions, and make amazing drinks. The ambiance is wonderful, the design is beautiful, and the service is great. After drinks we went up to Bachelor Farmer for our reservation and from start to finish everything was absolutely wonderful. We had the Chop of that day which was a grilled pork chop that was to die for! The food is absolutely perfect, the service is so wonderful, and the restaurant is beautiful. We loved it!"

  • "BF continues to be one of our favorite places to end/start the week. The Sunday supper is fresh and surprising every time we go. Each of the three courses is consistently flavorful and creative. And the staff is enthusiastic and knowledgable. We've thoroughly enjoyed ourselves every time we've eaten at Bachelor Farmer."

  • "First time here, and we were really impressed. Food was uniformly excellent from appetizers to desert, though, given its "Scando" orientation, were surprised that only 1 fish entree was offered. Gave our waitress (&, previous to that, the waitress in the bar below) a general direction for a specialty cocktail and both were right on the mark. She (and the staff) were attentive and the pacing of the courses was perfect. Big plus for the 4 of us was the lack of "elevator" *or* "hipster" music. (If there was music, it was lower than subliminal.) We could actually maintain a conversation, which only added to the quality of the evening."

  • "We most enjoyed our anniversary dinner at the Bachelor Farmer. The food was incredible, the ambiance romantic yet hip, and the service was perfect. Love the ability to order a half-bottle of wine. Thanks to all for a very special night."

  • "I ordered the lamb thinking that I would get a nice rack of lamb. I received a small slice of lamb, half of which was fatty grizzle. It included a sausage of some kind that reminded me of a cheap breakfast sausage. I would have complained, but our server didn't deliver our food and never checked back until we were done eating. The lemon cake desert was beyond dry. After dinner, we went to the bar for drinks. I ordered a vodka gimlet on the rocks, which the bartender served in a tall, champagne glass with one ice cube. When I stated that I wanted a short glass on the rocks, he replied, "There's one rock in there." He then poured the drink into a short glass, spilling most of the $15 drink on the floor...and still only included one ice cube."

  • "Beautiful decor, comfortable atmosphere, wonderful service, and unique offerings. This farm-to-table restaurant is an experience that everyone should try. However, be sure to plan ahead (I had to make dinner reservations three weeks ahead of time), order a couple things to share, and expect small(er) plates. We had expectations coming into dinner, but left being underwhelmed due to the price and amount of food we were given."

  • "My husband and I went to Bachelor Farmer expecting great things. We were sorely disappointed. We had looked at the menu online quite a few times and saw good options. However, on the night we dined, there was one toast and one side that we had any interest in eating. The entrees were polarizing and nothing we wanted to eat (Duck, duck egg, lamb, fried pork and haddock- if I wanted haddock, I'd order fish n chips somewhere else). We dine out often, and to places with creative menus across a variety of cuisines and always find something we like from French, to Thai, to Middle Eastern, to American. On top of this, it was loud and the staff was only mildly friendly. We ended up walking out. Seems like too much hype, not enough substance."

  • "Food is outstanding -choices are fresh and new- and flavors galore-the service at the bar was a little slow and inattentive at first-but improved-and the restaurant /dining room experience was so good-quickly forgot the slow start."

  • "Superb food in the twin cities, a gourmet gem to enjoy before the theatre. The dishes were inventive, well balanced flavours and the food exquisitely cooked. Walk along the riverfront from mill ruins park to work up an appetite and you will be assured of a fine early aupper"

  • "The staff was very friendly & also knowledgeable; however, our reservation was at 8pm.....we didn't get our entrees until 10pm. Salads we very slow to come out & it also took us at least 20-25 minutes to get our first cocktail. I did not care for my entree. This was my second time at this restaurant...I will not be going back."

  • "TBF has been buzzed about for a long time and we were FINALLY going to forgoe the likes of Bar LaGrassa and give it a shot. Overall the service was excellent, the wine selection was good but the food was just way too overpriced. I have a really hard time with restaurants like this that really aren't worth all the extra money. Unfortunately our money will head back to lagrassa."

  • "Pretty place, great service, but small portions, and high prices for everything. We own a restaurant and have a pretty good idea of how much stuff costs. We also understand that our restaurant is not in a major metropolitan area, and everything probably costs a bit more in Minneapolis. But...the food was small. I love Fernet Branca, but $10 is nearly HALF of the bottle cost! Interesting, well executed, tasty, but small. We are foodies who are not just looking for value. We are accomplished home cooks. I am originally from California, and worked in restaurants in S.F. for years. Zuni Cafe, and LuLu, for example. We are not just looking for a full belly...but the food was small. I would still recommend the restaurant, but with reservations."

  • "My wife and I decided to celebrated our joint birthdays at The Bachelor Farmer. We had a reservation for 5:30, opening time, as we have a long drive home. We had a hard time finding the restaurant, due to a lack of both readable signage, and a lack addrress numbers on nearby buildings. Once we found the restaurant, we were 10 minutes early in blowing snow, and the door was locked. Two wine salesmen emerged and told us the door would not be unlocked until 5:30. There was no shelter from the storm, and the foyer at Bachelor Farmer is huge, so it would have been nice if we had been allowed to wait indoors. The door was unlocked promptly at 5:30,and we were seated immediately. My walleye was OK, and everything else was terrific!"
