Diner Reviews
  • "Schnitzel was chewy and not flavorable. Salmon was only fair with watery vegetables. Selected wine was not palatable."

  • "Great interior decor -- cozy, exposed brick walls, wooden beams. Food was absolutely delicious and great portions for the prices. Everything from the simple butter lettuce salad to the smoked herring toast and braised meatballs was extremely tasty. The roasted duck was by far the best duck I've had in years -- cooked perfectly. Great service and energetic ambience rounded out my wonderful experience visiting Minneapolis and the Bachelor Farmer. Would absolutely return for brunch, lunch, or dinner here!"

  • "We had a reservation for our anniversary. We were seated very close to a table of 6 who were loud. We had a great deal of trouble hearing the waiter even after the table left and another group came in. It was difficult to have a private conversation with the overall noise level. The food was great and presented well. I would like to have seen a second fish choice. Our waiter was exceptional. Not the best place for a nice, quiet dining experience."

  • "Came here for my birthday for the first time after so many tries to get reservations failed. It did not disappoint. The server explained the menu well and was very knowledgeable and eager to provide recommendations, without a foodie air. Everything was super fresh and simple, which is what we like. Bibb salad was perfect size and popovers were buttery (great with honey butter). Probably could have skipped the side of chard because we had way too much food, but it was excellent as well. I had the "small" porkchop of which I was only able to finish half and my wife had the salmon. Both were excellently cooked without a heavy sauce and served on a bed of veggies that were amazing. Pricey for dinner, but for the quality of food, it was perfect."

  • "Great quality but very small portions. Nice atmosphere and great service."

  • "Always a great experience with terrific food and a knowledgeable, conscientious staff."

  • "We were initially seated by the entrance to the kitchen. The place was busy but there were still open tables. Our waiter happily moved us to a much quieter spot. She was also helpful with recommending a dish that was not on the usual Sunday evening fixed menu. The chicken was good - nothing too special - but everything else was intriguing and delicious."

  • "Unique opportunity to have birthday while visiting Minneapolis was amply rewarded. Three- course fixed price dinner : wiener schnitzel/roasted chicken; heirloom tomato & eggplant salad; creme bruleé. Quality ingredients accompanied by Austrian red vino made for memorable dinner. TBF building from 1890s historic character was plus."

  • "Appetizer of tomatoes was very good. The Entree's were ho-hum. I had the steak for entree' which was very chewy. Broccolini was chewy. Chicken was just okay. Dessert, basically brule', was excellent. When there are only two entree's they should knock a person's socks off. These didn't. Parking during a baseball game is also an issue."

  • "We really enjoyed the sunday supper fixed price menu. Started with an heirloom tomato salad and then an almost schnitzel like beef dish and an almond and cherry creme brûlée to end. We were in a hurry to get to a Guthrie show and they were very accommodating."

  • "Had a wonderful meal. Very great night out. I consider myself a foodie and will pay for amazing food. This was fabulous, but I did feel it was a little too pricey."
    Dined on 8/16/2014
  • "We had menu choices based on a mix of winter vegetables, chewy meats, flavorless sausages and vinegar. The lamb was horrible and had crunchy bones throughout. The process of getting wine is confounding and confusing like betting on a horse race. With slow to non-existent service it didn't matter anyhow. We opted for cocktails instead, and received the wrong ones. The ambiance was great, but there was so much noise we couldn't hear ourselves talking. Who knows? On a different night, we probably would have had better menu choices and a decent server, but we're never returning."

  • "Disappointed. Food was cold and tasteless. Paid too much for this quality of food...meatball dry. Duck egg not seasoned at all. Lamb was ok. Sausage too salty. Very disappointed for ours anniversary."

  • "We brought our son and his GF here for his 24th birthday and we were very pleased with our dinners. The menu is a bit confusing but so many are these days. Our waiter was great and particularly helpful with the one GF/Dairy free member of our party. I wouldn't say every dish was a hit but overall it was very good. I'm less likely to return than I thought I'd be."

  • "My wife and I ate at this restaurant while we were visiting from Massachusetts because of all the favorable reviews. The food was delicious. We both had the market fish which was maybe the best trout we've ever had. Service was very good too. My wife can't eat sugar so they whipped up a sugar free treat for dessert. We will definitely return when we are in Minneapolis again."

  • "Confusing parking lot. Needs better signage. Also, better signage needed for restaurant and adjacent bar."

  • "We had an excellent time for my wife's birthday dinner. Everything we ordered was great, beer, appetizer, entree, you name it. I found the service to be exceptional as well. The unexpected small snacks that the kitchen sends out were tasty and a real nice touch."

  • "What a surprising food world. The limited menue was good because we want to try every item!"

  • "There is a decent amount of buzz about this restaurant and it is all very well deserved. Our server was very friendly and explained the menu and the some of the dishes in detail. We decided to forego the traditional apps for their "Toasts" menu and we split the fresh cheese board. Everything on the plate was thought out and delicious, it made for a great way to whet our appetite. For dinner my fiance ordered the chicken leg and I ordered their "chop" It was explained that they get 3 sides of pork (or pigs?) on Friday and they brine the chops for 3 days, and sell them until they run out. The chicken was served bone-out, and was fantastic. And the chop was amazingly seasoned. Great special occasion meal!"

  • "Took my wife here (and to Marvel Bar) for our seventh anniversary and we had an amazing time. Great food, great drinks, amazing service. It also sits just outside of downtown proper, so it is much quieter than something more central. We will definitely be back."

  • "After hearing so much about the Bachelor Farmer, we were excited to try it out. We were not disappointed. The food was simple, yet elegant and full of flavor. As people who had lived in Scandinavia, we enjoyed the melding of traditional with Minnesota foodie."

  • "Really!? Toast with salsa is considered the second course? Warehouse atmosphere. Slow service. 4 wines purchased by the half bottle- nothing great. Over $400.00 before tip for 4 people."

  • "The kitchen is inventive and very good with fish and vegetables prepared in style found in a very good restaurant in today's Copenhagen. The service is informed and gracious, though not formal. The dinning room is attractive and comfortable though not quiet when full."

  • "We had superb service and wonderful food. All 6 of us would return for those things. But for all 6, we could not get the first beverage we ordered. No Jack Daniels, No flavored vodkas, no real Cabernet, no Malibu rum. So we settled for other things. But it was minor blemish on the evening. We will still return and we have recommended it to others already. ☺️😍"

  • "Out table was small and off to the side, at first we thought it wasn't a great spot. Our server, the ambiance and the food was all spectacular. If your looking for something a little different but exquisite this is the place! The recommendations were fabulous and the drinks had such unique combinations.. We will be coming back. • "We had a wonderful and impressive meal last night. Unfortunately, our server seemed preoccupied and truly not interested in waiting on us. Either way, we still had a great time as we were not in any hurry and the food was so impressive. We have been here multiple times and this is definitely out of the ordinary for bachelor farmer, service has been wonderful in the past."

  • "TBF is connected to Marvel Bar, and they know their mixology. The Portions form the appetizers are a little on the small end, but it's good. The toasts are great, and the Groaning Board (charcuterie) was our favorite item."

  • "Great food, trendy place. The bar underneath the restaurant is cool too. Very creative cocktail list. I had the seaweed scotch; very good, especially if you're into scotch on the smokies side. Would definitely go back next time we are in Minneapolis."

  • "Made it to this spot after saying I was going to go since it's opening. Service staff was amazing, especially our server who was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings. I ate lunch late, so was looking for something a bit less filling, so the salmon was a great choice. The sauce/soup it was in was amazing. The fish while cooked perfectly wasn't as fresh as I would expect. I am very adventurous and willing to eat almost anything, even if I've had it before and didn't particularly enjoy it just to see if I've changed my mind. But, I'm quite picky when it comes to freshness of fish. Luckily someone else with me ordered the pork chop, and it was excellent. I'll be back for sure."

  • "I wasn't sure what to expect from the Bachelor Farmer so I went with an open minds and I was blown away. I've always loved the clean and simple Nordic style. The décor is a great reflection of that done very tastefully. The food was amazing. Interesting combinations but not overly fancy so that everything looks fresh, real, and tempting. Our server Joseph was a star! If you are in Minneapolis, this is a must!"

  • "My SO and I came here during a trip to MiniApple in search of a "Nordic" experience. We came for the Sunday Supper, which is a 3-course prix frixe. Every course was delish and fresh (corn/tomato salad with a DELISH aioli, flank steak with DELISH potatoes, honey biscuit and blueberry cake). Our server took care of us - we had to wait awhile for our 2nd course so were offered an on-the-house liverwurst. Also, right when we arrived he said the steak was almost sold out and asked if we wanted it so we could get it, which was nice. Caution - my SO ended up with $18 cocktails since the server suggested a different whiskey; we were not expecting that cost. Journals to fill out at end of meal - with entries on wall - was cool! Little tricky to find"

  • "We had Sunday Supper at the Bachelor Farmer on my birthday. What a great way to celebrate! The atmosphere is casual but special; lighting is low, seating is comfy, and everyone looks like they are there to enjoy really good food and company. Our first course was a salad of four different kinds of cherry tomatoes, crispy cucumbers, marcona almonds, and sweet corn, all covered in a yummy herb vinaigrette. For the entrée we had a choice of flank steak or chicken; I had the chicken and it was perfect and came with cauliflower in a brown vinegar sauce that I was very surprised to love. The steak was a big hit. The fixed-price menu included a lemon blueberry cake that was not too sweet and very homey. Service was really great."

  • "We had reservations for 9:15pm, but it ended up being 9:40 before we got a table. We started with the duck wings and a toast course. I would recommend the toast course, but could have skipped the appetizer. I had the duck confit and my boyfriend had the lamb. Both dishes were well prepared and a great taste of traditional Nordic fare with out being too heavy or filling."

  • "Everything was perfect at The Bachelor Farmer! The ambiance (Scandinavian decor in warehouse building), the service, and the food was outstanding. We tried the Herring and the duck - so delicious! The wine list is fabulous as well."

  • "We had a party of 6 and each & everyone of us thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience! Our waiter, Joseph, was AWESOME!!! He was so pleasant, menu & wine savvy...great with suggestions...open & honest. He made our evening complete along with the food! We'll be back again to see what's new on the menu!!!"

  • "The Bachelor Farmer has been our favorite restaurant in town for a while now - it does just about everything perfectly. This was probably our sixth or seventh visit and we will continue to come back again and again. We stopped downstairs for the nearly mandatory visit to see Pip and the excellent Marvel Bar staff before our dinner. Once upstairs, we did have a few minor hiccups this time (long waits between courses, incorrect bill), but the kitchen recognized things on their own, offering an extra complementary dessert (and the bill was corrected with sincere apologies). Minneapolis is lucky to have such a wonderful place to visit..."
