Diner Reviews
  • "This was my third visit to Bachelor Farmer. My first two visits were an incredible dining experience. This time it was not. The wine was perfect. Food choices were not, everyone was disappointed. The flavor's were off. I will be sure to check their menu before I make a decision to return."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary here with my wife. Food - small proportions and very salty; coffee was barely warm but great service. Room was quiet and romantic. The waitress brought us a special dessert for our celebration at the end of the meal. She gave us great service throughout the meal."

  • "I'd recommend TBF. The chef shows a lot of creativity and ability to combine fresh ingredients in very tasty ways. The downside is the smallish portion sizes. Be prepared to add an appetizer to your entree."

  • "Some concern among some in our party regarding the Sunday prixe fixe approach but once dinner was served it was all good. Service always attentive but not overbearing. I'd like to see a bigger wine list, but all in all it's a neighborhood favorite."

  • "We went to Bachelor Farmer for our 25th wedding anniversary. It was such an amazing experience. We got there about 45 minutes early and decided to try Marvel Bar which is below the restaurant. Awesome place that has unique cocktails. Not to be missed. Then it was time for our reservation. We had awesome service! Awesome food! We like to share dishes and they almost encourage that. They split the dish onto two plates for you. They really go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. At the end of the meal, they made a special and unique dessert just for us which consisted of a small bite of each of their desserts. Incredible!! I cannot say enough about this place! We will most defiantly be back!!"

  • "I have dined in restaurants all over the world- and many of the finest 5 star- Never have I experienced an evening of complete and total excitement in dining, from the minute we were seated to the minute we departed. The "waitron" was exceptional, the food variety, quality, preparation, and service was tops. BRAVO!"

  • "We were catching up with my sister and her husband and we happened to have several reasons to celebrate which Bachelor Farmer helped us do in a memorable way. When we asked for some recommendations the server gave the option of allowing her to select menu items and have them coursed out to surprise us. We gave her a few guidelines but left the rest up to her discretion and extensive knowledge of the food and were so glad we did! The food and wine was excellent and the service superb. The meal did end up on the pricey side but everything from the food to the service was well worth the price!"

  • "We recently met a couple at a wedding who became wistful when they recommended the Bachelor Farmer to us. We decided to treat ourselves to dinner there for our anniversary, and we couldn't be more glad that we did. The vibe of the restaurant is down to earth, but still feels like a special occasion. The wine list is lovely, and food was excellent across the board. But the highlight of our experience was the "toast"! Toast points served in a special holder are served with a variety of toppings on a board, that you can combine in whatever way you choose. It is a "choose your own adventure" style appetizer, that is both a fun date activity and a deliciously crafted appetizer. We had a wonderful time, and wholeheartedly recommend this TBF!"

  • "For a fairly expensive restaurant with an expensive wine selection, this place is very noisy. I would not recommend going with more than four or can barely hear the wait staff tell you the specials or explain the menu to you. This is our second visit and probably our last."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "I think the best food I have experienced. The waitstaff was very attentive and generous with suggestions which we appreciated."

  • "I love this place.. but so many of the servers have got such a precious attitude.. can't we all be well.. more Minnesotan? which is think is scandanavian.. you know.. fake friendliness? lol but at least approachable and open.."

  • "Service and ambiance were great -- very comfortable place -- super clean. Buuuuut..... The food was -- 'meh'. We went Sunday, with a prix fixe line-up of greens, salad, pork or chicken entree, biscuit (1), and dessert. The dominant spice/flavor? Salt. Really? The portions were also pretty small, so had anything been outstanding, there would have been disappointment there, as well. Everbody got one (1) small biscuit, which seemed a titch on the stingy side -- especially given the (small) biscuit was the Star of the meal. So. If you go out for pleasant ambiance and service -- THIS is your place. If you are interested in generous amounts of great food -- not so much. We were expecting more, and felt quite let down."

  • "Sunday supper was outstanding and a unique dining experience. We had out-of-town guests and they were very impressed."

  • "This was our second trip to the restaurant and we tried the Sunday supper menu which was simple, wholesome, and delicious. Part of our group had the roasted chicken which was tender and moist, I opted for the vegetarian entree and had perfectly basted eggs over a pesto veggie and potato mix. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Very interesting menu. The salt & sugar cured salmon was delicious. We tried the Groaning Board- very interesting-requires open mind and taste buds. Service was terrific, great explanation of the menu/entrees. The journal entry idea at the end if a very unique idea-and fun to read some of the previous entries. We will be back!"

  • "This was our third time at Bachelor Farmer and once again were so happy to experience the wonderful food and service. We were there with a group of six and we were celebrating birthdays and anniversaries and Bachelor Farmer turned out to be the perfect place for it. Can't wait to go again."

  • "An exceptional dining experience. Servers are more culinary tour guides rather than simple waitstaff."

  • "Happening place in former warehouse area. Menu is eclectic. Finding combinations that work not easy. Would Bachelor Farmers eat this way? Doubt it. Two main entrees, duck and fish were out--at 8:30! We still dipped in all menu sections. Strawberry dessert was an A, nuanced. Starter sliced radishes fun. Asparagus side was cold, bland hardly any sauce. Bibb lettuce was ok; innovative toast was poorly executed, burned. Waitress coldly removed it not adjusting the bill. Popovers taste good but were thick and hard, not wispy air hot. In fact all dishes were cold. Plate warmer idea was snubbed. We also had a 30 minute wait between the initial dishes and the entree; the pork and sauce, however, were wonderful, the cut first rate, even tho cold."

  • "The food, service and decor were excellent, but it became hard to hear the people at my table as more people came to eat. They need some sound absorbing material to make it quieter."

  • "I took my family to the Sunday Supper. It was a lot of fun to share big plates of delicious food. Service was attentive without being overbearing. It's not really kid friendly, but they worked with my two nephews."

  • "This is a great place for someone with cash to burn and an appreciation for farm-fresh food. We were served fresh radishes as a starter and ordered salad & cocktail meatballs to share, duck and salmon as our entrees and an espresso custard for dessert. Everything was good - unique menu, delicious, good wine, great service, fun atmosphere - but for the price, it was probably a one-time experience."

  • "Locally grown meets very creative cooking. Everything we ordered was a hit. I'm sorry I don't live in Minneapolis to enjoy this gem over and over again. Great service to boot!"

  • "We were very excited to dine at the Bachelor Farmer after hearing the amazing reviews! The food was good, but maybe just a tad bit weird. Instead of a bread basket, we were served whole radishes that were to be dipped in butter and salt. I though, how interesting! No. At the end of the day you are eating radishes dipped in butter and salt. In an effort to be different, I think this missed the mark. Nevertheless, the entrees were very good! My husband had the Chop Night Pork Chops that were the best pork chops he's ever had, though a bit salty. I had the oven baked duck eggs. Very good, but very rich! I would recommend Bachelor Farmer, yet I don't have a yearning to go back."

  • "My wife and I decide to pick a city we had never experienced and explore for a few days. As self-proclaimed foodies, we found the culinary scene in Minneapolis better than advertised. The highlight of our dinning experience in Minneapolis was dinner at The Bachelor Farmer. The unusual concept and attention to quality was wonderful. Every bite from start to finish was a delight. We hope the dinning culture is moving towards the example being set by The Bachelor Farmer and look foward to our next visit. Simply excellent. The Simmons Family Houston, TX"

  • "Finally made it to the Bachelor Farmer to celebrate an anniversary, and it is absolutely all it's cracked up to be. We made it on a Sunday night when the restaurant has a set menu and it was amazing! The flavors were perfect, tasted like it has been cooking all day. The service was awesome and the drinks were made perfectly (doesn't hurt having Marvel Bar right below). I can't wait to go again and try the regular menu."

  • "Good food and service. The boards were amazing. The pork chop entree special was not that great, a little flavorless and chewy. Salmon entree was fine, I ate it in its entirety but I've had much better. Dessert was amazing. Highlights were the appetizers and desserts. Very interesting food forward stuff. Would like to see a little more consistency throughout the meal. Talks a big talk for an almost middle of the road (because of the entrees) walk. And I say almost--not the home run I was anticipating but very good and interesting nonetheless."

  • "I had been wanting to dine here since I moved to Minneapolis 18 months ago. I heard great things and they were all correct! All of the food was incredibly thought out, prepared and presented. Portion sizes were perfect. I can't wait to bring my foodie friend here when he comes to visit, I took photos of the food and menu for him! We had a great server as well. I enjoyed the special Sunday evening menu but will try another night next time for a different experience. While the salad course wouldn't have been my choice it was still delicious and well made. The drink menu is adventurous!! Really unique cocktails like nothing I've had before."

  • "I would rank my dinner here among my top three (ever in a restaurant). The detail that was put into the décor was evidence that the owner gives attention to all the little things that make this a special restaurant. My wife and I arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation time so we were able to wait in the bar area. We were seated after about a 15 minute wait. We both thought the service was excellent and our server was very knowledgeable on the menu items. We ordered the pork rib appetizer, duck confit and the pork shoulder."

  • "We had a great time. The food was great and the service was superb. My only quibble was the limited entree menu and what I would call a couple of exotic menu choices."

  • "This past week was our first time dining at TBF. Being in the food industry as well as hoping to experience good food on a special occassion our family was celebrating, we found that TBF did not disappoint! We especially loved the unique Nordic touches, and our waitress was most exceptional in making our night worthy of being a celebration experience!"

  • "TBF has amazing food. During my most recent visit I was there on a Sunday. They only serve a fixed menu "family style supper" on Sundays. It was good but simple, not up to the caliber of their typical menus."
