The Ashby InnNight to RememberWe celebrated our anniversary at the Ashby Inn, and enjoyed the Chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. Everything was fantastic. Each course was a culinary delight and the wine was exquisitly paired. We leisurely enjoyed each course engaging with the servers on the preparation and the rationale for the wine selection. Just a fun fun way to spend an evening. Compliments to the chef, the sommelier, and the wait staff.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dining experienceThis restaurant creates unique wonderful food from locally grown (within 30-40 miles--except for seafood) ingredients. Everything we selected from the daily changing menu was absolutely great. The service was outstanding too. We ate on their window-enclosed porch, which was so nice on a rainy evening. We would highly recommend this fine dining establishment.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMEven better than expected.I've eaten at the Ashby Inn before, altho not for several years. The food has taken a leap forward in creativity and flavor. The strawberry "Gazpacho" was excellent as was the crab cake appetizer. For the entrees both the loin of beef and with Hollandaise and the chicken in a flavorful jus were delicious.
I'll be back soon.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA special spotThe Ashby Inn restaurant is a very special place. Nested in a gorgeous setting, the food is great and the staff friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. We very much enjoyed our meal and time there. We booked a lunch during the week so we had a quiet and non-rushed experience. I highly recommend it to others specially if combined to a trip to one of the local wineries.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMRomanticCelebrated our 17th wedding anniversary here (and got married at the Ashby Inn 17 years ago). Food is fabulous and the wine list is equally remarkable. Highly recommend the lamb dishes.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMperfect eveningWent to the Ashby Inn for our anniversary looking for a special evening and were not disappointed. Sat on their beautiful outside veranda overlooking the Blueridge. We surged on the chef's tasting menu and were delighted with the fascinating variety of flavors and beautiful presentations. The grilled sardines and marinated pork bellies were two of our favorites. Thanks for a wonderful evening.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMjust perfectIt surpassed all of our expectations. We hope to return soon.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Dining ExperienceThe Ashy Inn and Restaurant is a quality experience. While not quite the ambience (and performance) of the Inn at Little Washington, the food comes close, and the service equals that renown establishment. It is great to go to a restaurant that is on the upswing with something to reach for. There are a lot of surprises that come your way during the meal, at least with the tasting menu ,which is reasonably priced for the food that arrives at the table. It also means something to me that the ingredients from meat on down are local with all that implies. If you have the time to take in some scenery and eat in a more rural (but lovely) diniing area, it is an alternative to staying in town and eating at Citronelle or CityZen.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the tripAn hour from the Washington suburbs, the Ashby Inn is a real gem. The dishes are extremely creative and the wait staff delight in explaining where the ingredients come from (mostly local) and how they are prepared.
Expensive, but a very good value and a great culinary experience.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Mother's Day TreatWe went on Mother's Day and it was a perfect place. The food was delicious. We sat on the porch and had a view of the yard which was beautiful.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMVery creative chefWe have enjoyed eating at the Ashby Inn a number of times. The chef is quite imaginable with combinations that really stand out. The smoked pork shoulder with the black eyed pea polenta and candied pecans was tremendous. Do request to sit outside in warm weather.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Food! The locally sourced menu was fantastic. A great wine list accompanies the great food. I think our server had an off night.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFOOD IS EXCELLENT IN TERMSFOOD IS EXCELLENT IN TERMS OF QUALITY, PREPERATION, AND PRESENTATION...VERY CREATIVE5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA Wonderful Dining ExperienceMy wife and I had dinner at the Ashby for our wedding anniversary. Chef's Tasting Menu, 6 course paired with the suggested wines (plus some special surprises mixed in). The food was fabulous. We agreed that it was one of the top 5 meals we had ever eaten (and we've eaten at many top resaurants in the Washington, DC area, as well as NY, Vegas, and LA). We were thoroughly impressed with the creativity, flavor development, and presentation of the food. Highlights - Honey Candied Prosciutto; Razor Clam Ceviche with Honey, Buttermilk, and Mint; Mahi with Grits and Sorrel Yogurt; Whipped Cheese with Crustini and Rosemary Jelly; and an Earl Grey Chiffon with Chocolate Sorbet and Grenache. All beautiful. We will definitely return.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMCountry GemThe Ashby Restaurant is a wonderful fine-dining establishment in the Virginia Piedmont. Dining on the patio made a truly memorable evening5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been going to AshbyWe have been going to Ashby Inn for about 25 years....the chef there is probably the best there is....very passionate about his work....Incredible.
Margaret Hirl3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful location, greatBeautiful location, great drive to get there. Over priced. food was good, but not worth the price paid. Errors were made by servers, food had to be sent back, service was slow.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMVery relaxed feel. DinnerVery relaxed feel. Dinner and wine pairings were very good. Service was well-timed and friendly.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for lunchHeading on out to VA on a sunny day? Ashby's food is excellent - from soups to main course deconstructed sandwiches, all delicious. If they have their lamb sandwich or interpretation of a Pork Banh-Mi be sure to get it.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNestled in a scenic VirginiaNestled in a scenic Virginia Piedmont valley, the Ashby Inn is a distinctive destination that unpretentiously offers imaginative dishes mostly based on local ingredients, prepared with skill and artistry. The cocktails and wines have similar virtues.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOur second visit to AshbyOur second visit to Ashby and just as memorable. The food and service were fantastic. Amazing how much thought goes into each and every dish...every combination...every flavor and texture. And what results!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCHARMING bldg & grounds. EXCELLENCHARMING bldg & grounds.
EXCELLENT, friendly staff.
But the food does not match the price.
In fact, part of my meal was not edible (& this is not the first time, either!)
Where is simple food, cooked w less cream & fat & salt.
The one exception was an incredibly delicious salad.
Will not return.2/22/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful Inn. The goodA wonderful Inn. The good was great, service exceptional and overall experience a real treat. We will be back often.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
