With its warm service and artistic food presentation, The Asbury at The Dunhill Hotel puts a sophisticated spin on the local food movement and traditional Southern dishes. Led by rising-star Executive Chef Chris Coleman, The Asbury is a tribute to Charlotte’s southern roots and the culturally diverse community of the New South. There is a strong tie to heirloom ingredients native to the area and specialty items grown by small, family farms throughout the local region.

Located on the corner of N. Tryon & 6th Streets at the heart of Charlotte’s cultural district, it’s only fitting that the restaurant features local art curated in collaboration with McColl Center for Art + Innovation.

It's just a wonderful experience all around, all the way from Spencer who created us out front of the restaurant, to our servers (this time it was Frank), the flavor combinations of the dishes, the wine selections and last but definitely not least.... Chef Chris! It is always a treat and such a fun time to dine here with our friends. Please keep up the good work!!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the bacon fig jam drop biscuits. Very yummy. My wife's scallops were excellent. My ribeye was mediocre at best. The outside was seared far too much, the crust was closer to burnt. Lackluster flavor. Small portions. Overpriced menu. We finished eating at 6:30 and were the only people there on a Saturday night! (That should tell you something). There's a lot better places to eat nearby for the same price, if not cheaper. For true upscale southern food, go to the Kings Kitchen around the corner. And what's with the weird blue painted walls? Blue is not a food color and makes the place look weird. I'm glad I ate here using a gift card a family member gave us. $97 for an app, two drinks, and two entrees is too much."

  • "We were staying at the Dunhill and had originally planned on dining elsewhere, but due to weather concerns, changed our minds and got a table at the Asbury. Very pleased that we did. The sampler plate for appetizer/snacks was great. Highly recommend the deviled eggs, the pickled vegetables, and the squash fondue. We ordered the fish special and the steak. The fish was grouper. Both were great. It is a farm to fork restaurant that lists all the locations where they get their food. I'd go back again even if not staying at the hotel."

  • "The Asbury is an exceptionally good restaurant. We were greeted at the door by a very nice young lady who gave us our choice of seating. We took the table by the window and were able to watch the street activities and people passing by. Our server and the hostess were both very personable and performed their jobs with great skill and grace. The food was excellent, the wine was very good, the atmosphere extremely pleasant, and the service was exceptional. We will certainly enjoy dinner there again in the near future. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a fine dining experience without feeling stuffy."

  • "The Ashbury next to the historic Dunhill Hotel is a new-ish restaurant in Center City Charlotte. It is a small space which creates an intimate environment. Great bold color on the wall with strong graphic photography used as the art! Our waiter Danny was excellent very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. He made great recommendations. This is not a light meal as one would expect from Southern food, but the portions are just the right size to fill you up without overstuffing you. The dropped biscuits with bacon jam was a delicious start and we ended with a cornmeal cake with berries and honey butter. One of my top dining experience in Charlotte! Definitely worth a checking out."

The chef is obviously creative and wants diners to experience a truly innovative dining experience. We don't live in Charlotte and have enjoyed our visits to the Asbury when we've been visiting family. We would love to have a restaurant like this in the midwest where we live. It's truly special!"

  • "There wasn't nearly enough of it. If we had been really hungry, our meals would have been little more than expensive appetizers. Also, everything in the meal was warm, but not hot - as if it sat cooling before being served. The waiter, while friendly enough, failed to ask us if we wanted more beer when we ran out, though our water glasses were refilled several times. While the food was extremely flavorful and good tasting, it isn't enough to overcome the many things that were wrong to recommend this to anyone."

There are many options on the menu from snacks to sides, and main entrees to desserts. You will not be disappointed in the quality, quantity, or price of your meal. The hostess greets you with a smile and the wait staff makes you feel special as they attend to your every dining need. The Asbury often changes its selection of modern art, which adds to the unique quality of the atmosphere.   • "My husband and I dined for the first time, at the Asbury. The sidewalk is tiny, but we knew that...the drinks were good, the food, generally was fantastic and creative. My only issue was with the proteins...bad product? The lamb chops were filled with grizzle and fat and just tough. The flavors and accompaniments were wonderful. Next visit I'll order a vegetarian dish as the chef clearly "gets it" when it comes to fresh veggies. I do not like the feel of the dining room and won't go in winter due to the depressing nature of that space. Sorry to be blunt but that's what I feel about the space. Hope the protein buying improves so that we can speak highly of all aspects...we live uptown so love supporting good, local places."

I had the pig pikin and it was extremely bland and dry. The scallops and mac and cheese were ok. Overall the food was not worth it. We won't be back."

  • "I wanted to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Ashbury had few small tables for two outside and it was perfect for a quiet evening mood. I ordered chicken and the food was delicious. It was completely different from regular chicken and i like how they mix the flavors together. I would highly recommend."

  • "This small restaurant of the lobby of the historic downtown Dunhill Hotel is a local favorite. There is a small sidewalk dining area. Very classy, fantastic service, food was splendid. Good selection of wine by the glass as well as bottles. Small thoughtful menu with something for everyone. Accommodate gluten free easily and happy to make modifications. When full, this small space is pretty noisy; we went early before the show (1 block from Belk Theater) and it was nice and quiet but by 7:00 it was quite noisy-just a small space with rather hard acoustics."

  • "The staff could have more attentive. There were maybe 4 tables and most of the waiters were just standing in the back talking. Also , the menu had peculiar things with each entree. For example, the peanut brittle with the chicken and a liver mousse was odd. It didn't work. I really want this place to work because it's such a great location. But I don't think it will be with The Asbury."

The result was completely the opposite the menu was limited, the service a bit slow (in spite of the fact that it was fairly empty), and the food average. I'm headed back again for lunch, but I'm not sure I'll do dinner again."

Eggs,bacon,grits,biscuits,fresh fruit,coffee=very good.The disappointing:slow service.I asked for a spoon to stir my first cup of coffee, it took 13 minutes.The staff is friendly, but poorly trained. Other bad:(1)prolific house flies in the dining room;(2)broccoli was cooked in a microwave and set on fire (it was served charred with an electrical metal taste (inedible);(3) no staff coordination led to lengthy delay before someone came to take a drink order or any order (we had to flag someone down); (4) staff was friendly, but just poorly trained on how to keep diners from waiting at key points during the meal. Will not go back until management steps up the training and food reviews improve."

Instead the manager gave the obligatory, "I'll pass your comments on to the chef." How about making it right and bringing us a hot meal!"

Food was was very good, very positive on the Crab Risotto, Deviled Eggs were great (but you must like strong mustard flavor and creamy consistency), daily Ceviche was quite good as well. Biscuits, however, were dry and not too impressive. Very good cocktail list. Went back for lunch the next day, Deviled Eggs a bit soggy this time, but grilled cheese was great. Chess pie also very good. Would definitely recommend."

  • "Had lunch here and was not disappointed! Do not let the seemingly pedestrian menu take you by surprise. Every dish was a highly creative twist on a classic, and perfectly executed. As a French onion soup snob, I have to say this starter rocked. Deeply flavored and topped with a biscuit and not the classic crouton was a tasty and fun way to put some Southern into this dish. Service was a little unpolished, but the GM rounded the tables and insured htat all was well and the food was simply outstanding. I can not wait to get back here for dinner!"

  • "The maw maw biscuits with Benton's bacon jam are worth the trip. I had the lunch tacos - very tasty with fresh fried flour tortillas - the shrimp taco could have used a little more sauce to make it more cohesive, but it was all fresh and delicious. The staff is very attentive and knowledgable and the hostess asked us for genuine feedback about the meal, making me feel that the restaurant really is trying to change and improve to fit their audience. This is also evidenced by the changing menu since its opening. I highly recommend it as a great lunch alternative to the other less-than-gourmet options downtown. "

  • "This was our 2nd visit to Asbury.we thoroughly enjoyed our first visit. This time The hostess was a little "stand offish", the waitress seemed a little "out of sync" missing part of our order it was incredibly loud with a party of 6-7 people that were oblivious to the fact that others were in the room and the cackling of their conversation was overwhelming to other patrons to the point you could not have a conversation with your date. We love this quaint restaurant, however if there is a large crowd of inconsiderate people yelling loudly at each other and considering that as their conversation you might want to choose plan "b" or get one if you didn't have one. The owner who is adorable and Donnie the wine steward were very gracious :-)"

  • "We when her before a Broadway lights shows because of it location and we will go back. The food was very good, Cindy had the "Grouper and peanut Wild Rice and Toasted Pecan Pilaf" and I had the "Chicken + Dumplings". They were both really good. The noise level did get loud when the restaurant got full with everybody talking, so it was a little hard to hear but beside that it was perfect. We will be going back again."

The food had a few seasoning issues, minor issues, and only on 2 of the 6 items we ordered. The crew appreciated the feedback and went out of their way to make us happy. Which they did. Overall, it was how dining out should be."

  • "There were six of us and all agreed that preparation and service were excellent. The chicken and dumplings were not at all what I expected--so, so much better! My husband and I went back for breakfast the next morning and it was also superb. Although the prices put it in the "special occasion dining category" for me, The Asbury is quite reasonable for the quality. I will plan to go back the next time I'm in Charlotte and I would definitely recommend if for groups. We happened to be seated at dinner next to a table that was really enjoying each other's company, which accounts for the "energetic" noise level rating. Compliments to the chef!"
