A word from The Artist's Palate
Installed in a building once occupied by a Golden Era clothing store, M. Schwartz, The Artist’s Palate restaurant has brought back life to Main Street in Poughkeepsie. Designers have reworked the interior space of the 70-seat dining room to combine cosmopolitan elegance with an edgy industrial accent. Like the décor, the menu showcases innovation: An extensive array of wines, handcrafted beers and unique cocktails complement our revolving seasonal menu. The lunch menu is available for delivery within the city from 11am-2:30pm.

As its name suggests, The Artist’s Palate treats food as art, introducing new flavor combinations to local and regional diners. What is more, the restaurant gallery is committed to showcasing the best of up-and-coming local artists in a revolving exhibition. When it opened in 2006, the restaurant was quickly lauded by local and regional restaurant critics and discerning diners. The Artist’s Palate has fast become a Dutchess County institution.

I had a braised duck leg served over mashed and gravy with pearl onions and asian pear, for 25 or 26 bucks. My wine pick was a New Zealand merlot maybe $9. My wife had the Arctic char with hearty "forbidden" [black] rice. Fish had pistachio crust. She had a nice German reisling.. We were both wide-eyed with delight from the first bites. I was glad I got the baby brussel sproats side because otherwise no greens. We rarely get dessert but had to try. She had an Apple crumb thing with ice cream and I had a goat cheese cheese cake with poached figs. Fab on both counts. The tab was $120 including the tip. Can't do it on regular basis, but for special occasions, as good as it gets in Hudson Valley. Waiter was above and beyond

The whole experience was great. My boyfriend and I went during restaurant week and were shocked by how wonderful everything was. We started with the kale salad and the grilled stuffed figs...both were amazing. For dinner, he had the duck breast and said it was perfectly cooked, very tender, and Nicely paired with mashed potatoes. I had the buttercup squash the quinoa was perfect and the tofu cooked to perfection. We finished with the warm apple pie and the pumpkin beignets!! The beignets were divine and absolutely made the meal. The menu was fabulous and the wine list had great selections. We will return!

We arrived 30 minutes before our reserved time and were seated within 10 minutes. The waiter took the time to explain items on the menu. The Tiger Figs were very interesting blend of sweet and salty, and chewy and squishy. The Rinderrouladen was very interesting. I normally do not eat red cabbage but found it quite tasty along with the spatzle. I had the apple cobbler for dessert. Although I found the overall quality of the food and service to by quite good, I did notice that toward dessert the quality declined. The apple cobbler was slightly undercooked, and we weren't offered any coffee with dessert. The charges for alcohol seemed higher than comparable establishments. All in all we were satisfied and would return without hesitation.

Went to Artist palate for resturant week with my wife and friends the food was wonderful and the service was good. I liked the layout of the place and the open kitchen design. The parking was street parking and the area was not a great area we were greeted by a few drunks as we parked one who almost fell on the car and another who wet himself. We tried to park close so we would be able to jump throug the window into the car for a quick escape.😄

Travelling upstate for my 15th Anniversary and was looking for a great spot and memorable meal. Loved the look and feel of the place. The food was good, but it didn't "wow" me as much as I'd hoped. The staff was very attentive and our server was friendly, but it felt like he was being nice because he had to, not because he wanted to. I would still recommend this place; it's a solid spot with good atmosphere and a fun & interesting menu, just don't expect it to be a 5-star experience.

Restaurant week menu. Very nice. Good food, good service. But the room is noisy. Open kitchen - high noise level. Cheesecake for dessert came to the table broken and put back together like humpty dumpty but missing a few pieces. The cheesecake at the next table was perfect so it was obvious it wasn't supposed to be served in 5 pieces! All in all a good meal.

I don't know what a review title is so I will skip it. The restaurant was excellent. I had a wonderful salad for the appetizer which had a light dressing of Dijon mustard, olive oil, lemon and various spices. Delightful. My friend had onion soup which was good and attractive. My lunch was duck, very tasty, nice color, mashed potatoes with carrots on the side. My friend had Quiche which was very good and presented nicely. Our desserts were apple coddler, very good and pumpkin beignets with a carmel sauce which was tasty and creative.

My date and I had a terrific time at the Artist's Palate. The food is creatively imaginative without being so far out you don't know what you're eating. I'm not a wine or beer expert, but their menu offered a great variety of both. The wait staff was attentive and probably too helpful for my taste, step back and let me eat and conversate until I need you. Others probably enjoy the attention, but I'm more relaxed and less attention deprived. All in all, this is a great space with a terrific menu.

Very good menu that changes frequently and excellent cuisine. It's a gem right in the heart of Poughkeepsie. Good neighborhood. Good wine selection and the prices are reasonable for a 5 star restaurant. A great place to take a friend or to impress a guest or spouse. It was a total delight. My cousin had the best strip steak he's had in years and my salmon was to die for. Very friendly environment as well. I highly recommend it and chef Megan for her 8 year effort to bring good cuisine to the Hudson Valley.

My husband and brother and I had just completed the Walkway over the Hudson on a cold and blustery day and at the last minute found this restaurant for lunch. The outside did not give any clues to the warm and friendly interior. All our food was good and delicious. We especially liked the space, even with high ceilings the atmosphere was warm and cozy, and we did not feel crowded or like we could not talk in a normal voice. We would definitely return and have already told friends to try this wonderful place.

This restaurant stands up to most top-tier New York City restaurant, and but with reasonable prices and no pretense. I live in NYC and regularly come up to PK to go to this restaurant. The chefs change the menu to reflect local and seasonal ingredients and every dish is superb. Every single one. I have never eaten anything off this menu that wasn't divine. On top of that, the ambiance is polished but not stuffy, the service is fantastic, and their unique cocktails and diverse wine list round out an overall fantastic dining experience. I particularly love their open kitchen - you get to see the pros at work, you can see the kitchen is impeccable, and it adds energy to the dining room to feel the creativity happening.

The artist's plate appetizer is incredibly good but its not cooked so hard to give too much credit but the food quality and combinations are done well and its plated beautifully. I also had the veggie pot pie and it was watery and the vegetables were under cooked. One out of two cocktails I enjoyed as well so it was basically "hit and miss". Our server was great and overall I had a very nice time. Friendly atmosphere and one of the chef-owners stopped by the table which is always nice.

We had a salad of baby kale, goat cheese, beets, macona almonds with a nice vinaigrette, delicious. The Cioppino was excellent, the broth definitely something to pay attention to with the various and well prepared fish within. A tablespoon was a well used implement. My husband loved the piece of grilled, garlic bread in the stew to capture the wonderful flavors. I wasn't sure about it taking up space in the bowl until I saw how much fish there was and ate a piece, yum. We also had the monk fish which was good, not excellent. The fish was wrapped in a truffle parmacotto, which didn't give me the flavor I was hoping for though the fish was cooked just right. The accompanying sauteed mushrooms, baby spinach, leek bechamel were delicious.

1st time there: The drink orders were a problem. And they were unable to make a Bloody Mary - never had that experience before. Grilled Salmon. Instead of the risotto, my wife asked for a vegetable. The waiter asked the chef and said that they'd have to up charge us for the vegetable substitution. We've never been in a restaurant that had such a policy. How much extra could the vegetable have cost? Nickel and diming! The waiter saw that we were upset, so he said that he'd send the chef out to speak to us. Ten minutes went by, still no chef. We told the waiter we were leaving. On the way out, we told our story to the front person; another 5 minutes went by, still no chef to talk to (we asked for the manager- they told us it was the chef!)

Excellent dinner. As we entered, the fire alarm went off. They very quietly, led everyone out of the restaurant. We waited on the sidewalk. It was not in the restaurant, but in the apartment above. The fire engines came, looked, turned off the alarm and we went back in. We were seated and they brought us two free glasses of Proseco for our inconvenience. Well-dodne. Very good dinner with Jenna catering to our every need. I would recommend this place!

I met someone at the restaurant for a business lunch, and we had a great table. The chef even made something for me off the dinner menu that looked particularly appetizing (the grilled figs), and I was grateful. It says a lot about a restaurant when they are willing to be flexible and permit a first-time visitor to experience as many of their dishes as possible. The menu changes frequently, so visiting often is recommended. The Daily Specials are noteworthy, and not something you see on every menu. I would absolutely go back!

This was our second visit to Artist's Palate, and we were even more impressed this time. The food is upscale, new American - beautifully plated, and very well prepared. Rack of lamb was perfectly cooked medium rare, and the tile fish was also delicious. The carrot creme brulee was a surprise - a combination of a chilled pureed carrot mixture topped with a sugar caramelized topping. It was so good!! We ended with the combination dessert platter and didn't leave a drop. Our server, Peter, was friendly, and always kept an eye out for our needs. We will return again soon, and bring friends.
