A word from The Artist's Palate
Installed in a building once occupied by a Golden Era clothing store, M. Schwartz, The Artist’s Palate restaurant has brought back life to Main Street in Poughkeepsie. Designers have reworked the interior space of the 70-seat dining room to combine cosmopolitan elegance with an edgy industrial accent. Like the décor, the menu showcases innovation: An extensive array of wines, handcrafted beers and unique cocktails complement our revolving seasonal menu. The lunch menu is available for delivery within the city from 11am-2:30pm.

As its name suggests, The Artist’s Palate treats food as art, introducing new flavor combinations to local and regional diners. What is more, the restaurant gallery is committed to showcasing the best of up-and-coming local artists in a revolving exhibition. When it opened in 2006, the restaurant was quickly lauded by local and regional restaurant critics and discerning diners. The Artist’s Palate has fast become a Dutchess County institution.

Very good menu that changes frequently and excellent cuisine. It's a gem right in the heart of Poughkeepsie. Good neighborhood. Good wine selection and the prices are reasonable for a 5 star restaurant. A great place to take a friend or to impress a guest or spouse. It was a total delight. My cousin had the best strip steak he's had in years and my salmon was to die for. Very friendly environment as well. I highly recommend it and chef Megan for her 8 year effort to bring good cuisine to the Hudson Valley.

My husband and brother and I had just completed the Walkway over the Hudson on a cold and blustery day and at the last minute found this restaurant for lunch. The outside did not give any clues to the warm and friendly interior. All our food was good and delicious. We especially liked the space, even with high ceilings the atmosphere was warm and cozy, and we did not feel crowded or like we could not talk in a normal voice. We would definitely return and have already told friends to try this wonderful place.

This restaurant stands up to most top-tier New York City restaurant, and but with reasonable prices and no pretense. I live in NYC and regularly come up to PK to go to this restaurant. The chefs change the menu to reflect local and seasonal ingredients and every dish is superb. Every single one. I have never eaten anything off this menu that wasn't divine. On top of that, the ambiance is polished but not stuffy, the service is fantastic, and their unique cocktails and diverse wine list round out an overall fantastic dining experience. I particularly love their open kitchen - you get to see the pros at work, you can see the kitchen is impeccable, and it adds energy to the dining room to feel the creativity happening.

The artist's plate appetizer is incredibly good but its not cooked so hard to give too much credit but the food quality and combinations are done well and its plated beautifully. I also had the veggie pot pie and it was watery and the vegetables were under cooked. One out of two cocktails I enjoyed as well so it was basically "hit and miss". Our server was great and overall I had a very nice time. Friendly atmosphere and one of the chef-owners stopped by the table which is always nice.

We had a salad of baby kale, goat cheese, beets, macona almonds with a nice vinaigrette, delicious. The Cioppino was excellent, the broth definitely something to pay attention to with the various and well prepared fish within. A tablespoon was a well used implement. My husband loved the piece of grilled, garlic bread in the stew to capture the wonderful flavors. I wasn't sure about it taking up space in the bowl until I saw how much fish there was and ate a piece, yum. We also had the monk fish which was good, not excellent. The fish was wrapped in a truffle parmacotto, which didn't give me the flavor I was hoping for though the fish was cooked just right. The accompanying sauteed mushrooms, baby spinach, leek bechamel were delicious.

1st time there: The drink orders were a problem. And they were unable to make a Bloody Mary - never had that experience before. Grilled Salmon. Instead of the risotto, my wife asked for a vegetable. The waiter asked the chef and said that they'd have to up charge us for the vegetable substitution. We've never been in a restaurant that had such a policy. How much extra could the vegetable have cost? Nickel and diming! The waiter saw that we were upset, so he said that he'd send the chef out to speak to us. Ten minutes went by, still no chef. We told the waiter we were leaving. On the way out, we told our story to the front person; another 5 minutes went by, still no chef to talk to (we asked for the manager- they told us it was the chef!)

Excellent dinner. As we entered, the fire alarm went off. They very quietly, led everyone out of the restaurant. We waited on the sidewalk. It was not in the restaurant, but in the apartment above. The fire engines came, looked, turned off the alarm and we went back in. We were seated and they brought us two free glasses of Proseco for our inconvenience. Well-dodne. Very good dinner with Jenna catering to our every need. I would recommend this place!

I met someone at the restaurant for a business lunch, and we had a great table. The chef even made something for me off the dinner menu that looked particularly appetizing (the grilled figs), and I was grateful. It says a lot about a restaurant when they are willing to be flexible and permit a first-time visitor to experience as many of their dishes as possible. The menu changes frequently, so visiting often is recommended. The Daily Specials are noteworthy, and not something you see on every menu. I would absolutely go back!

The wait staff was excellent. The Artists Plate Starter was very good, though I felt the selection of cheese was not a wide enough range. The duck was over done and dry. I was very disappointed in it, but my dining parter likes food well done. She ordered the steak medium and it was rare, so we switched plates.

This was our second visit to Artist's Palate, and we were even more impressed this time. The food is upscale, new American - beautifully plated, and very well prepared. Rack of lamb was perfectly cooked medium rare, and the tile fish was also delicious. The carrot creme brulee was a surprise - a combination of a chilled pureed carrot mixture topped with a sugar caramelized topping. It was so good!! We ended with the combination dessert platter and didn't leave a drop. Our server, Peter, was friendly, and always kept an eye out for our needs. We will return again soon, and bring friends.

For our 2nd visit here we hosted ten friends who travel widely & enjoy fine food. Several declared this to be the best meal they'd ever had. We were expertly served by Daryl, who was knowledgable, attentive, patient, & gracious throughout the evening. The stage was beautifully set with an amuse bouche that delighted taste buds. Appetizers received rave reviews as friends savored carefully layered flavors & textures, from the crispy fried tofu to the grilled figs. For entrees we had the rack of lamb, the wild sockeye salmon, and the day boat scallops, all tantalizingly presented w/ delicious accompaniments that never intruded. We shared desserts, one offered with chef's compliments. The chefs here are, indeed, artists. We'll be back!

It is on the top of my list before the Brasserie, Crave, & Crew. Why? The ambiance, exquisite food and friendly service meld together by carefully crafted artists for a delightful experience. A staple are their Queen City Manhattans. The amuse they served was particularly tasty - a salmon tartare with a punch of spice. Appetizers were fresh and umami: Maine Lobster Mac and Cheese, and the grilled fresh figs. To keep it summery I went with the sockeye salmon, the fregola sarda with addition of blood oranges and cooked to perfection salmon sent my taste buds exploding with joy! To finish it off the Berry Tart hit the spot. Megan, the executive chef, even greeted our party afterward. Can't wait til next time!

We liked the restaurant but my food was brought out cold. The sauce and rice were cold and I asked to have it heated... this was a 27 meal. My wife's pasta did not look like anything special. Oddly a diner next to us also had cold food. For the price this restaurant is not worth it, there are better options.

We dined here for the first time on a Monday night and were delighted to find it busy. We were welcomed warmly & seated swiftly. We took in the exposed brick, the original tin ceiling, the warm lighting, the effectively used mirror along one wall, the open kitchen at the rear. The simplicity and elegance of the decor matched the superbly simple yet sophisticated food preparation & presentation. Crab & corn fritters followed by lean buffalo ribeye, fried green tomatoes w/ shrimp & piclled ramps, a light buttermilk dressing on the side, followed by seared scallops w/ lentils & swiss chard w/ a perfectly light but savory whole grain mustatd sauce--a delicious meal. Chef-owner Megan Fells came out from the kitchen herself to serve our entres.

We had a wonderful dinner at Artist's Palate this weekend, generous drinks, delicious food, well chosen wines, great service. The dining room was spacious and airy, the table and seating comfortable. Our server was knowledgeable and enthusiastic as she guided us through the menu. I would not miss the soft shell crabs, done perfectly and presented artfully with ample, fresh sides. My buffalo ribeye was done just as i requested, seared outside and rare inside, great fried onion rings and potatoes made a great plate. We hope to return soon.

Let me some it up this way...I think...the idea behind the dishes was fine...the outcomes were not all that spectacular. The drinks were imaginative and well done. I like especially the traditional gin martini but it had blue cheese stuffed olives wrapped in sizzling bacon.Salad was an ample portion, enough for two,but he salad was totally overpowered by vinegar....and I tend to make my salads shorter on oil and more on vinegar..but this was excessive. The 14 ounce shell steak looked nice prepared but when my partner cut into it, it was medium rare rather than medium well...and it was cold...it when back to the kitchen. My pork chop also looked nicely done, but cool and it was quite undercooked for a piece of pork.

The decor is great. The food was outstanding from amuse bouche to dessert. Menu has so many options it was hard to choose because they all looked good and the menu changes every 2 weeks - creative, fresh and local. We had watermelon gazpacho (not overly sweet, crunchy veggies kept it fresh), shared the octopus with perfectly crispy potatoes and the fried green tomatoes with shrimp and buttermilk dressing. We then shared the buffalo rib eye with its own steak sauce and the cashew crusted fish with mango and cucumber salsa. The warm pineapple upside down cake was the perfect finish to a pretty perfect meal. Also lovely that one of the chef owners comes in and chats with each table. We can't wait to go back.
