A word from The Arsenal at Bluejacket
The Arsenal is the 200-seat restaurant & bar housed within the brewery, Bluejacket. The menu, crafted by Executive Chef Kyle Bailey of Birch & Barley and ChurchKey and Chef de Cuisine Dan Hahndorf, updates, refines and extends the classic fare of beer halls and public houses by featuring the best locally sourced products available and highlighting house-made specialties such as charcuterie, fresh pastas, alongside whole-roasted meats, hearty grains and seasonal vegetables. A menu of gourmet sandwiches, house-ground burgers and bar snacks is the perfect accompaniment to a signature Bluejacket brew.

Rounding out the savory offerings at lunch and dinner is Pastry Chef Tiffany MacIsaac’s robust bread program, which includes breads made with spent grain from the brewery. Chef MacIsaac’s renowned desserts also grace the menu with a number of seasonal pies served with freshly spun ice creams.

Diner Reviews
  • "The beer is great, very flavorful. If you order an IPA, BAM! A delicious hoppy IPA is yours. Want something darker? There is nothing watery about these. The food is delicious too, but the entrees are appetizer size. If you show up hungry, be prepared to spend a bit on an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Otherwise your stomach will still be grumbling when you leave."

  • "The beers (Mexican Radio, High Society, The Betty) are delicious! However, food is sub-par. We were a group of 7 and none of us were blown away by what we ordered. In fact, it was the first time in awhile where a majority of us complained about their food. I thought the mac and cheese was tasty (with its homemade cheez-its on top) but others didn't like the whole grain pasta used. The pretzel was tasty but the beer mustard was not. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive, however the hostess gave me attitude when checking in. I also let them know that it was my friend's birthday and they graciously gave us all slices of delicious pie (quite rich though). Summary: I would definitely come back for the beers, but not to eat..."

  • "Fourth time dining at the Arsenal. I absolutely love this place. The servers are extremely knowledgeable of beer pairings as well. I've had the same entree twice and it was consistently delicious. Hidden gem inside the brewery since often people visiting think the food is the same at the bar tops."

  • "Love how they are always changing up their food and beverage menus. There's something for everybody - from the beer newbie to the beer snob - as well as dietary options that exceed most brewery selections!"

  • "Our server was amazing!! Saw that my friends had a birthday gift with them (before I got there) and had a little 4oz free taster for the group - two free desserts after brunch as well. The doughnut and desserts were top notch - pastry chef is on point. The brunch was so-so. Out of four meals, only one was amazing (the Benedict). The Rib hash did not have a lot of meat to it and was mostly burnt ends. The beer is always a good mix of styles and good quality. Second time here and I just need to be able to find the right food to order."

  • "And friend and I went to grab a beer and a quick bite before the Nats game. The Arsenal exceeded our expectations--it's worth a trip to the Navy Yard regardless of whether the Nats are playing. Our server Maria was outstanding, the food is delicious, and Bluejacket brews a great variety of beers (I highly recommend their nice selection of sour beers)."

  • "Excellent beer selections. Pricing for the samplers is very competitive and they changed their tasting glasses (for the better) since originally opening. They have already made some menu changes----the pork and chicken burger was quite good. I'm glad they got rid of the shrimp burger. It would be nice if they offered more sides."

  • "This new brewery near the Ball Park should be a favorite with fans before and after the games."

  • "good food and beers. Split 6 flights with my boyfriend and shared a bunch of the starters and "mids" from the menu. Only downside I felt for the mids section was a bit expensive for the portion size you received. Also the lighting could be a bit brighter in the main dining area. Overall would definitely come back again!"

  • "Bluejacket joins a growing group of DC area breweries, but occupies a unique place among them. While other breweries are making more mainstream beer like IPAs, pale ales, etc, Bluejacket is constantly experimenting with brews like Twit (a sour wit beer), the Arsonist (a smoked Oud Bruin) and Mexican Radio (chili spiced stout). The Arsenal's food menu is also quite good. They rolled out some fine charcuterie from their sister butcher Red Apron. The fried chickpeas are addictive. And closing out with the Piggy Pie, you can't go wrong."

  • "This brewery/restaurant has 20 exceptional beers on tap. Once you have had a few "attitude adjusters", you should stay for the food, everything from bar fare to gourmet dishes including some great vegetarian offerings. Service was also superb, can't wait until the outdoor section is open."

  • "Food was good, beer was amazing and the Mississippi mud pie was outstanding. Great for a date night, gotta make a reservation or it difficult to get a table unless u want to go to the bar."

  • "We had a wonderful night, both at the bar and the dining room. Zach gave us a great introduction tovthe beer selection at the bar, and my gemelli entree was delicious. I'm telling all my friends to go - ASAP."

  • "It's tough to go wrong when you start with the it being managed by the same folks as Rustico, Churchkey, and Birch & Barley. With Bluejacket, they've got another winner. The beer selection is wide, creative, and well-brewed. With food options that are just about on par with their beer, it's a great option for just about every distiguishing crowd. They're still a little new to the SE DC scene, so it's still to be seen how they can handle Nats game-day crowds, but I'm sure they'll learn to manage."

  • "We had a dinner reservation, but decided to cancel the dining room in favor of the bar area. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the different brews and I loved the fact that I could order the 2 ounce "tastes" and sample many of the different beers. Our waiter was the perfect guide. The food was good. After reading several reviews about how "far" it is to the Navy Yard area, we found the metro in only two blocks away and the trip from where we were staying at Dupont Circle was easy. Being from Texas, we would not consider that "far". I would definitely recommend a visit to The Arsenal."

  • "Great atmosphere, good service, tasty beers, but the food itself was very average and expensive for what it was. Let's hope the food quality improves as the restaurant "seasons" across the next few months."

  • "wish i could say the same for the service. I made a 6 person reservation knowing my brother was going to be in town and was looking for a place for him to meet my boyfriend for the first time and also invited a few friends who ended up bailing at the last minute. Upon arriving on time, I let the server know it was just going to be 3 of us and apologized upfront about the decrease in numbers. The hostess basically threw a tantrum and let us know she had seated the last 4 top just before our arrival and told us we could wait on another table for AN HOUR at the bar. Understand we threw a wrench in her seating chart but, I still have a bad taste in my mouth about the awful customer service we had. Food was decent but, underwhelming at best."

  • "This is my second visit to Bluejacket. The service this time was less than stellar. Our first visit was the best service I had in near memory. But don't get the pork rinds. You'll either love them or absolutely detest them. 3 of the 4 people at our table couldn't stand them. Besides that one item, everything here is absolutely delicious. The burger is by far the best I've had in the DC area and I was born and raised here. The Siren Song saison is my favorite brew but there are many others to like."

  • "I tried to get into the bar area of the Blue Jacket several times, but was unsuccessful because it was so crowded. I was ready to give up, but decided to make a reservation and I was not disappointed! The good was truly amazing from the starter to the meal to the dessert! The bacon apple pie with bourbon infused ice cream was a show stopper. I highly recommend this restaurant! It will not let you down!"

  • "Was hoping the food has improved since the crtic review. Good size portions but my falafel was aa bit salty. Tots were good. Not much of a dessert selection. A great place if you like craft beer."

  • "The Arsenal is really coming into its own. Last time we went, there were a few hiccups, but the food and service just keeps getting better and better. One of the best farm-to-table and head-to-tail places in DC (only rivaled by Founding Farmers, IMHO), and the beers are stellar."

  • "Second time eating at the Arsenal. My girlfriend was blown away by the shortribs, and I was a big fan of the Merguez burger. I love beer, so this is a great spot. The dessert menu was impressive as well. It's a little more expensive than I'd like, but we will definitely be back."

  • "We wanted to check out this new restaurant for future visits during the Nationals baseball season, since it's a very short walk to/from the stadium. It is an informal setting, very friendly, and we did not feel rushed. We visited on a Sunday mid-afternoon; therefore, we had access to the brunch menu. There was something for everyone on the menu. It is also a brewery, so we ordered "taste" sizes of the varied beer selection. These "tastes" were generous pours and very good. We plan on returning on Nats' Opening Day!"

  • "You come here for the beer, and it does not disappoint. The food was also impressive (and pricey) and the atmosphere is great - very industrial, with the smell of hops in the air."

  • "The beer is excellent, one of the areas best breweries. The food tries, but lacks. I appreciate the effort to be a top flight testurant, but honestly place would be better served to focused on what the are very good at, Beer."

  • "Everyone had a great time. Definitely not a place to bring a friend who doesn't appreciate a good craft brew (although they are extremely accommodating with people who gluten allergies). Love that Bluejacket gives the option to have a whole beer or just a sample size for each of their brews. This made trying different types much more fun and easy."

  • "I went to dinner with a party of 8 on a Friday night. We made reservations about 6 weeks in advance. We were shown to our table as soon as we walked in. Our server was great--answered our questions re food and beer. Everyone in my party (except my pregnant friend) found a beer or two that they really enjoyed, which was good because it took a lonnnng time for the food to come out. Seemed to be a problem in the kitchen. Our server was attentive and gave us an appetizer on the house. When the food did finally arrive, most of us did not find the entrees to be anything impressive, including the white lasagna, pork chop, and rock fish. I would certainly retun for an after noon or late night beer (bar was crowded), but I'll eat elsewhere."

  • "We stopped by on a Sunday night for an early dinner. We never felt rushed and stayed for hours enjoying some amazing beer and food. We may have come for the beers, but we could not stop talking about the food and amazing service."

  • "Been here a few times now and have been impressed by the wonderful beers and the quality of service from the wait staff. This is by far the best selection of quality beers from a single brewery that I have visited or tasted. I have become addicted to their IPAs and double IPAs. The food is second to the beer and is good. Vibrant scene and beautiful interior. Staff is knowledgable of the menu and happy to give recommendations. Will be back many a times."

  • "A bit overrated because it's so new. The food is fine, but not worth the two week in advance reservation you need. The way to really enjoy Bluejacket is by going to the bar. The restaurant itself is very middle of the road."

  • "Not sure it's fair to say that the food is still a work in progress, but it certainly pales in comparison to the beers. All of the menu items sounded great, but some missed the mark a bit. My carbonara touted pork belly, which (along with an intact hen's yolk) sounded great, but left me wishing for bacon instead. The burgers and fries were ok and the short ribs were a hit, but the two appetizers (deviled eggs and pickled sausage) we ordered were not great. We tried a number of desserts as well and all were just ok. My toasted marshmellow ice cream was creamy and sweet, but otherwise didn't have a lot of taste. I heard similar comments on the pies. Again, this may have all been relative to some of the best beers I've ever tasted."

  • "My wife's nephew suggested meeting for dinner at the Bluejacket brewery. He is a beer connoisseur, so expected the beer to be great. Great selection of different styles and flavors of beer. Really enjoyed the Black Eye and the Dalmatian. The server had a great handle on the various beers and was able to make good recommendations. The food was remarkably good. The warm pretzel appy is not listed on the dinner menu, but be sure to ask your server. Two of us had burgers (Bluejacket Double and the Veggie) and two went with dinner entrees (Rosemary Roasted Monkfish and the Shortribs). No disappointments at our table! Service was outstanding throughout the meal."
