A word from The Arrogant Butcher
Already an iconic downtown Phoenix landmark, the bar at The Arrogant Butcher is one of the only places where sports fans and theater-goers can enjoy a burger and a beer next to some of Arizona’s top politicians. Behind the drawn curtains of the three private dining rooms, one may find bachelorettes toasting former freedoms, important legislation being discussed, or pre-concert parties warming up for the night’s big event. The Arrogant Butcher offers you the best of everything – seafood, steaks, draft beer, wine and cocktails, comfort food and good company. So if you’re looking for downtown’s only place to be seen, look no further than the corner of Jefferson and 1st.

Look no further than the Arrogant Butcher.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was fantastic. We had some trouble getting in since one hostess was busy flirting with a guy trying to seat a party of 12 walkins and the other seemed to be writing the great American novel on the hostess station computer. Tom the server was great though and, other than the noise level, everything else was great. Since the dining room is open to the bar area, the noise just carries right over. There were several people commenting on the noise level there."

  • "The Thursday special of fried chicken is delicious- honey dipped, generous portion and perfectly prepared. Zuchinni fritters and fondue pretzels were also delicious. Affordable prices, close to convention center and ball park."

  • "The turkey pastrami, moist, tasty and with the cole slaw on top, the perfect combination. The fish and chips, surprisingly enjoyable, NOT greasy and with the homemade ketchup...perfect. I paired my fish with the side salad, a definite healthy alternative."

  • "Several of us had the Jambalaya and it was a bit spicy but still very good... I would order it again... Our server was very attentive as well..."

  • "Good location with plenty of energy. Menu seems unique and interesting, but the taste is average. Food is too salty."

  • "We went here before attending a show at the Herberger. It was busy due to a Suns game across the street, but our reservation got us seated immediately. We shared a kale salad. Husband had the turkey pastrami sandwich, I had the sea bass. Both were excellent. The sea bass was a little pricey, but everything else seemed reasonable. We tried the peanut butter cup dessert and it was phenomenal. The food was very tasty, and our waiter (Matthew?) was perfectly attentive and gave us terrific menu advice. Great experience -- we'll definitely come back and try some other items on the menu."

  • "I have eaten at a few of the Fox restaurants (North, Little Cleo's, Blanco Taco, etc) and they never disappoint. Service is always good and the food is delicious. This one did not disappoint either."

  • "The Arrogant Butcher is a great place to dine for literally any occasion. We have dined here many times and have always had a great experience. The menu items are reasonably priced and very tasty. We recommend this restaurant to everyone. It is a must go! Don't forget to make reservations though as it is quite busy on weekends."

  • "The attention to detail was superb! Chris our waiter noticed how my steak was not well done as I started to eat and had it fixed with the manager. The appetizers, mussels and shrimps, were served on time. The manager at the restaurant stopped by to check and addressed and validated. The wine selection was fantastic!"

  • "Downtown Phoenix is beginning to develop a great restaurant scene, which started at some level with Arrogant Butcher. This is a terrific restaurant - fun, energetic, great service, and excellent and creatively inspired food. The whole package!"

  • "Good variety of foods and prices offered. Loud and energetic place definitely not the place for romance. Location across from the US Airways Centre makes it a great meeting place before events. We had the prime rib with the addition of 2 scallops ($4.00 each and cooked perfectly and delicious and 2 shrimp ($3.50 each huge and very tasty) was a great choice if not pricey. Soup was mashed potatoes with cheese and chives and again delicious but priced at $7.00. I had The Pink Drink which I really liked but served in a very small glass. Overall, a fun place for groups and variety of menu will suit all tastes. Our waiter was Andy and you couldn't ask for better service."

  • "Had a great time and just everything nicely done. Minor complaint drinks a tad overpriced for the amount served. Thought we were in Vegas. At least you didn't charge $3 for olives! Great restaurant"

  • "Friends in from out of town. Made a reservation and sat outside which made for interesting side walk scenes... Where we also were able to look across at US Airways Ctr and get Phx Suns score updates. I had the BBQ stew hold the egg ..it was delicious. My wife had surf and turf the steak very very good, a little rare. Friends liked their dinner too, thou the Waldorf salad they kindly split for us was a little anemic. Always recommend this place its YABADABADOO!"

  • "Great service and wine selection--Beaux Freres Pinot ! We ordered the cheese & olive plater for an appetizer and the main entree salmon which was overly salted and the filet which was perfectly prepared. Overall good food just ordered the wrong dish."

  • "I recently had lunch at the Arrogant Butcher. I had a sandwich with a side of soup and my colleague had a salad. She seemed to enjoy her salad and I liked my sandwich. The soup was extremely good. I have been to the Butcher several times and I always enjoy the vibe, atmosphere and attentive service. If you are looking for off-the-charts great food, this is not the place, but if you want consistently good comfort food, good service and a great atmposphere, the Arrogant Butcher is perfect."

  • "What a perfect night out, food was amazing, people watching was great (sat outside) and what made it even more amazing was that we were 30-minutes late for our reservation due to traffic and after calling them, they still held our table. We couldn't believe!"

  • "It seems this is an after work local hang out stuck close to the convention center and ball parks. I would find it hard to believe staff could ever handle the crowds on game days. The menu was very appealing and the food tasty but not set up for crowds."

  • "I have been to the Arrogant Butcher for lunch numerous times. The Turkey sloppy Joe is tasty and just enough, the fish and chips are cooked perfectly I had a side chopped salad with mine...perfect and the beef short rib stew is filling and it was perfect for the few cool days we had in Arizona. Not a single disappointment for me every time I have visited. Very accommodating ~ Thank you!"

  • "The Arrogant Butcher is always a great choice for lunch or dinner. Excellent service. Excellent food. The only downside is that it is often difficult to get a table, but that's because it is so awesome. I recommend making a reservation through OpenTable."

  • "Had reservation which was honored immediately on a busy Friday evening. Service was prompt and informative. Salmon was excellent in every way, beef stew was a bit spicy and soupy. Would not have stew again. This is third time for us and we were more affected by noise than previous times. Great location pre downtown events."

  • "The Fox group has pretty well perfected a formula for creating good and interesting restaurants. The food is prepared well and the service attentive. We were late for our reservation because of a very bad jam on I 10 and called the restaurant. They were very accommodating and got us seated and served in plenty of time to make our symphony tickets."

  • "We have tried to get into this restaurant several times and it has always been so busy. We finally made a reservation. Service was okay. but the delivery of the main meal was very slow. Portions to cost were very small. We ordered a cheese and prosciutto appetizer thinking that would be good for 4 people. What we received was less than a 1 inch square block of cheese and some slices of prosciutto with 3 slices of bread(why not 4??). The main course were just okay. I would say nothing special about this place, just across from the stadium."

  • "If I were to go back, need to mention to management; iced tea was too much favor and needs to add ""Regular Ice tea"" too the Menu."

  • "My wife and I had dinner there a few nights again. The service was outstanding! We split two salads. The beet salad was really delicious, but the kale salad was weak. Would definitely go again if we were in the area."

  • "Wasn't impressed with menu items. No comparison to offerings at Greene House, North, etc. No really worth the trip to downtown area."
    Dined on 2/24/2014
  • "We had the Sweet Potato Tortelli & the Pork Carnitas. Tortelli was great & the Pork Carnitas was OK. There was more Sweet Corn Cake than pork (??? only 10 small pieces) with the Carnitas. For starters, we had an Old fashion & The Mule with Prairie Breeze which was very nice. For dessert we had the Salted Caramel Pudding & the Warm Peanut Butter Cup. The Peanut Butter cup was a bit soupy. We saw other tables eating the House Soft Pretzels & Provolone Fondue which looks like a winner. My wife and I agreed that if we do come back we would order the Pretzels and a couple of beers and maybe move on to another place in the vicinity to have dinner. We have eaten at other FOX concepts and it seems like the menu items are hits or misses..."

  • "We had friends in from out of town and wanted to take them to a hip spot in the city. Made reservations in advance for 6:30. When we got there they stuck us in a back room. it is clearly their private party room and not exactly the kind of ambiance we were hoping for. Although they couldn't get us another table they found us four seats in the lounge that worked. After this it just got worse. Took forever to get drinks we ordered. Then when we ordered appetizers to start, our sever very snobbily said oh is that all you are having tonight drinks and appetizers? as though we had ruined his chances for a big ticket. We were going to order entrees until this. Will not go back anytime soon. Too many other good options downtown now."

  • "Appetizer- bread with salami, melted cheese, asparagus. good, but not something that I would order again. Drinks- We were there for happy hour and ordered 2 of the 3 mixed drinks on the happy hour menu. The mule and the fix. They were good but full of ice. Soup. The chicken, mushroom soup was very tasty. I would order that again. Entre- Crab stuffed chicken and spinach.. Many flavors with every bite. The sauce was outstanding. Very good. Dessert- salted caramel pudding. The best part of the meal. Out of this world dessert."
