The food was excellent. Wait staff is very friendly and helpful. I mentioned in passing that my husband and I had travelled to London for my birthday, and the waitress brought me a special desert. Chef came out to talk with us. Ambience was a bit too much like an open hotel lobby, however. Not quaint or matching the price of the meals, which were quite expensive. All in all, a great experience, however.

Good service and food was mostly good. Fairly pricey, but knew that going in. A bit disappointed with the steak - which had too much fat. Had a 'difficult' couple at the table next to us - but thought the staff did an admirable job dealing with them.

  • Unfortunately the only drawback
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

Unfortunately the only drawback to the great food and amazing ambiance was the group of kids from a visiting hockey team running through the restaurant, yelling out of the rooms facing the restaurant and just generally acting like kids without parental control. The staff certainly did their best to alleviate this but even they can only do so much. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and the food was outstanding.

We were celebrating my husband Brian's birthday and as soon as we walked into the restaurant, the manager Ben came over to us and asked how we were doing, if we had sold our home and moved and also how Brian's health was...he remembered us from the past 3 years when we would celebrate Christmas at the Delta with our families. Ben has always been so friendly and accomodating as over the years my husband was recovering from a neck injury. For him to remember us and all the details made us feel right at home. We have recently moved into City Place across the Armouries and will be making the walk across the street quite frequently. Ashley our server was lovely and very quick to make sure that we had everything we needed!

It was fine but nothing compared to the Sunday brunches served there. I Was expecting more choices in veg. etc. For the price did not expect mixed veg. as the main one. Can do that at home with a bag of frozen.Prime rib was delicious as was the yorkshire pudding.

  • The server working the buffet
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

The server working the buffet was away from the buffet frequently causing us to wait for prime rib. When he was there he would only cut really small pieces of prime rib causing us to have to make several trips to the buffet just to get the amount we wanted. Even when we asked for more he made out like he was not allowed to give us more. We have been before and never experienced this. This was not a good dining experience for our group this time.

The Prime Rib buffet is always great, however the second choice of of entree on the buffet was disappointing. It was supposed to be a chicken stir fry but was very dried out and only fine noodles and dry chicken. The mashed potatoes were apparently a request from someone but were also disappointing. Usually the food and service are wonderful and the only ongoing complaint would be the seating. They have given everything a makeover but did not seem to do anything but recover the saggy bench seating. This is very uncomfortable and much lower than the other person seated at the table on a chair.

As a local chef, I have heard for many years about the great prime rib dinner buffet held at the Armouries. This was my first experience here and unfortunately it will be my last. There wasn't much to call a buffet. The selection, for the price you pay, was quite minimal. The buffet was located right in the heart of two wedding reception areas which made for much difficulty in navigating around all the people to get to the food. The selection was paltry and the young chefs appeared unenthused with regards to their job. We sat quite close to the two wedding receptions which made for a very loud dinner - not intimate dining at all. The food - bland at best and with very minimal selection.

Looking forward to "dinner in the castle" for our anniversary, we ordered a steak each and I found it "ok". It seemed the food was a bit cool and wasn't over the top as I would have expected at this restaurant. We then had breakfast there. My wife ordered off the menu and I had the continental with the eggs/sausage/bacon. I found that the eggs and sausage were cold even though there was a flame heat source below. Having to order juice from the waiter meant you had to wait till you saw him and we didn't very much. My wife asked for ketchup when her breakfast arrived and after about 5 minutes of not seeing him again, she went and got some off the buffet. Overall, it was ok, but was expecting to be blown away and in this case, was not.

  • Prime Rib Buffet (Fri/Sat)
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 6/23/2012
The prime rib buffet on Friday/Saturday, although small, is very good. I did notice, however, that the dessert choices have been scaled back drastically - down to two choices now, which was a little disappointing but not a deal breaker. The staff are very pleasant - the chef even visits the tables to ensure the patrons are enjoying their meals, which is a nice touch.

The Armouries Grille is a hidden gem. Most people wouldn't think of going to a hotel restaurant for dinner, but once you go, you can't help but be amazed at the quality of the food and service. The menu changes frequently (the most recent one features local produce!) and the classic architecture just can't be beat. LOVE it.

Quick, efficient and friendly service. Everyone in my party of 5 was impressed with the Chef bringing some of our food to our table even though nobody had ordered a flambee. Desserts were fabulous not to take away from our main course which was great.
