The location is great, just across Washington Park from Music Hall. We were going to the symphony, so decided to try Anchor. Upon entering, you immediately feel the energy from the bar, the feel of the place is great, not like you're in Cincinnati. Our server was wonderful, we weren't rushed in any way and she was very helpful and attentive. We wanted to try everything on the menu, but settled on the Kale salad (so fresh and delicious), the fried oysters (wow!), crawfish beignet (awesome) and fried smelt (you must eat it with the fried lemon). We had the fish of the day, grilled, thai style, which was fresh and wonderful. The brussel sprouts are amazing and the fries, we couldn't leave any on the table.

I love the Anchor. Great menu. EVERYTHING was excellent. I noticed some reviews here and other places questioning the service. Service was outstanding -- very knowledgeable and helpful, friendly but not intrusive. Gateway has just exploded with so many terrific places -- this one is among the best.

I was disappointed in this restaurant but i I will go back again and give anchor a second chance. I will only go for an appetizer or oysters during happy hour. It is very loud and not relaxing. We sat in the back of the restaurant near the kitchen. Probably one of the worst seats in the place. The food was very good but entree selections are very limited. Oysters good but expensive. Fish and chips very good.

This was our second visit to the Anchor, and instead of ordering one of the "du jour" items, we went with some a la carte staples. We both loved the fried oysters, although with just four on the plate, I wouldn't recommend trying to share. The fish and chips were easily the best I've ever had (I haven't had too many), with the fish fried to perfection: neither rubbery nor mushy. My wife adored the scallops but wasn't as big a fan of the underlying risotto (which was fine with me: I traded my chips for her risotto). The wines by the glass were an excellent complement to the meal: they have a wide variety available. This is fast becoming our favorite seafood restaurant in Cincinnati, but be sure to make a reservation in advance!

We shared a platter of raw oysters and the grilled fish of the day. We also had the shellfish bouillabaisse , which was the most delicious item of the night. All the seafood we had tasted fresh and delicious. The service was quick and attentive. My only complaint is with the space itself. We were in a somewhat cramped area behind a large group table in the front room. It was slightly loud, but wasn't a deal-breaker. Had we been seated in a different spot, this would be a 5-star review. Overall I would highly recommend Anchor as the place to go for the freshest seafood in Cincinnati.

Awful food! No favor! We got fish and chips and We got the lobster salad and it said market price. So we thought it would be max $18 because that was the most expensive item on the menu. It was $26 and was over cooked and served on a cheap hot dog bun! We were the only table in there at one point and no manager or owner stopped by and talked to us and we noticed they were all there! Thought I'd surprise my boyfriend with a nice valentines day lunch but we were both very disappointed and $67 later unhappy! And to make matters worse I called 3 times in the next two days to complain and tell them my experience and a manager was not available any of the 3 different times I called and never called me back!

Attentive, engaging server, who brought us several wines to try when we weren't sure what to get. We're not oenophiles and can't even remember the name of the wine we ended up with but it was lovely. My husband was very happy with his mahi mahi. I really enjoyed my salad and crab with cheese. There are big tables at which they sometimes sit people who have not come together but we had a table-for-two of our own, which was lovely, overlooking Washington Park.

SALT. NaCl. Halite. If you're going to Anchor, you'd better bring your own - because they don't seem to have any in the joint. None on the tables, none in the kitchen, none in the food. Now, if I am running a seafood restaurant, I certainly want the fresh seafood to be the standout ingredient in my food. That's all well and good, but it doesn't mean that dish after dish needs to be insufferably bland. Most of these dishes have about as much flavor as the average offerings at an assisted living community, I went for dinner at 6:30 midweek, and was greeted and seated immediately. Overall, service was the highlight of the meal. Our server introduced us to the oyster menu and the $1.50 happy hour offering of the day, which we ordered.

I had high expectations when I read about this restaurant's connection to Pearl Oyster Bar in NYC. We will definitely go back, but choose different menu items. Specifically, NOT ordering the lobster roll. It was tiny and way too heavy on the mayo for the price tag. I will order the oysters again for sure. Atmosphere was nice and the decor transported us from the midwest to the east coast. Service was great and they even accommodated our last minute request to add a person to our party.

I was so looking forward to getting out here and trying this restaurant. Went on a Wednesday night, rainy out, so with the location, not very crowded at all, maybe 4-5 total tables with people... Service was absolutely horrible. I had to go to the bar several times to have beers and waters refilled. Food to me was just OK. Our starter plate was great, fresh oysters and stone crab claws. However, waiter recommended the Lobster Roll to me, even though I told him I heard it didn't get good reviews.... I should have listened to everyone out there. Go with fish or something more simple. The rest of our table enjoyed their dishes, but this restaurant was my idea, and I was very disappointed in the whole experience....

We discovered the Anchor soon after it's opening and as it is adjacent to Music Hall it is close to our endpoint with parking (street and garage$$) availability. Now that they take reservations, we plan to frequent more often than when they first opened. We live 25 miles north of downtown so available table seating is an important criterion. They meet our other expectations: flavor, presentation, service and menu variation.

This was my second time at Anchor. Server was excellant as well as the food. I had an issue with the oysters I ordered, they seemed unusually small and bitter, but the server took them back without hesitation and credited our check. Our party of 6 was seated in a large 8 person booth open at both ends. Until the other couple left, it was a bit awkward. Also they were out of the House Cabernet at $9/glass and wanted to substite a better wine at $15/glass. I felt that they should have charged the same for any substituted wine. Otherwise, food and service were both terrific and very interesting. I would recommend Anchor to anyone who loves fish and would like a restaurant that is a little out of the ordinary.

Very thoughtful preparation of the food. Interesting choices beyond the norm. Would caution diners to get more details about the food preparation as I was surprised to find my Salted Shrimp appetizer was prepared (and supposed to be eaten) with the shell on. Likewise, the yummy trout BLT was a bit unusual with its skin-on filet within the sandwich. Perhaps, I'm just not as comfortable with this "close to the sea/lake" style. I just would have liked to know the details of that before ordering. Clearly, the chef has a POV and I applaud that. Distinctive and high quality.
