Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent restaurant. Modern. Food portion can be larger. But nice experience overall."

  • "Its never comlicated, anywhere, to find a great resto against a high price. Finding good food and reasonable priced is more complicated , in Paris and NY alike. The Americano is having a original menu with great choices. We ate an superb ceviche (14usd) and kale salad as appetizer and both dishes were tasty and really nice. Main dishes A Poulet fermier and King crab. The Poulet (29dollars..)was original and gorgeous . The white Sancerre was a great white and reasonably priced. Design of the restaurant is sympa and comfortable. Outside area not nice."

  • "The design of the restaurant is modern and chic. Food is good and the environment is perfect for an intimate date."

  • "lunch indoors was fair...would highly recommend outdoor dining for this restaurant rather than the underwhelming indoor space. menu interesting."

  • "While the ambiance and restaurant itself looked promising, the buzzing of several flies close to my malbec and in our general area quickly turned me off. The watermelon salad appetizer was acceptable but the steak entree really underwhelmed. From the pungent (garlic) chimmichurri to the inability to cook the steak "well" (it was rare even after asking them twice to put it back on the grill for a while). All of this, after flagging down the waiter several times (he was not at all attentive) and paying a $5 up charge on the restaurant week price, confirmed that I will not be back nor would I recommend this restaurant to others."

  • "The food was excellent, but the worst service we have experienced in more than a decade of eating out in new york. Forgot our wine. Had to ask for bread. Water never refilled. Had to ask twice for missing dessert and twice for bill. The whole meal took twice as long as usual for a lunch (nearly 3 hrs). And every table seemed to be returning the bill for errors. On ours the wine was overcharged from what was listed on the menu. At that point we cut our losses and paid no tip (never done that before!). Actually the bus boys were very nice; just the waiter was in need of some serious training."

  • "Restaurant week menu was feeble, and the only exciting item on the menu in terms of entrees (steak) came with a $5 surcharge, which is pretty absurd for a three item prix fixe. Food was good. Servers were nice but slow, and didn't fill up water regularly. Lovely layout and super empty at lunch time which was great. Would come back, but not for restaurant week."

  • "The brunch is delicious. They had live music and it created such a lovely, fun and swanky atmosphere."

  • "Cool decor is all this place has going for it. The food, coffee and tea were disgusting. My stomach is still not right."

  • "Americano restaurant had wonderful ambience. The various textures and materials worked well together like the marble with black glass and black & white leather seating, soft lighting. The food was delicious- I loved the coffee flan and watermelon salad. The background music was jazzy and smooth. Great vibe."

  • "If it weren't located in the heart of the Chelsea gallery scene, this spot surely wouldn't get the traffic it does. The service is very confused. Mixed signals, unclear roles, no follow through -- no training. The bread, always an indicator, is clearly purchased frozen, and I don't mean parbaked. It comes burnt to a crisp ("we toast it to fluff it up," a server explained), and if you request it "fresh, not toasted," it comes cold and dry, tasting like cardboard. The empanadas are good but overpriced ($15 for three small). Other dishes are mediocre and overpriced. For a great evening, reserve Red Cat for dinner and the rooftop bar Piscine at the Americano for an after-dinner drink. Please avoid this restaurant."

  • "I'm not sure if it was the rw menu our the service at Americano that made me feel just "meh". Nothing stood out about my ceviche app or pork loin entree. The waitress seemed like she could care less and never checked up nor did she give any as to why our food was so slow (compared to everyone else's table) in coming out. There are too many gems to go back for aNother round on this one."

  • "We went for a Restaurant Week dinner, but before dinner we went to the rooftop bar for a drink. The drinks were quite good, the view really nice but the service.....maybe we were just not cool looking enough, but we were basically ignored. That level of service unfortunately continued downstairs in the restaurant (The Americano), where the waiter could not have been less interested in us. The food was very good, but having to pry information out of the waiter about the menu put a damper on things. Then, aside from serving us our food (with a pretty long time between main meal and dessert), he basically disapppeared."

  • "Great atmosphere combined with excellent food and service. Definitely recommend the Chilean Sea Bass and the side vegetables are the best compared to any 5 star restaurant. Appetizers are a bit spicy. Enjoy the mojitos."

  • "Had a nice time enjoying the view at La Piscine on the roof and then dinner in The Americano. Food and drinks we very nice and we enjoyed the service and atmosphere."

  • "I cannot understand why such an upscale restaurant would have only one unisex toilet to serve both the restaurant and the hotel lobby. This definitely detracted from an otherwise pleasant albeit expensive lunch experience with an old friend."

  • "We went for the first time with a deal from Gilt but we would come here anytime for drinks or a meal. The service and food for just what we needed fir a relaxing weekend celebration... Great relaxed vibe with a diverse downtown crowd."

  • "My boyfriend and I were celebrating and found a great Travelzoo deal. It was an amazing deal because the food was absolutely delicious. Cocktails are great (and dangerous because they are so yummy). Service was beautiful. Thanks for such a great night!"

  • "Enjoyed drinks at the rooftop bar. Balmy summer evening, view west somewhat restricted but nice view east, Empire State glowing. Downstairs, food was fair-to-middling. My companion had a raw tuna salad appetizer, which was quite good, the best plate of the evening, in fact, including what I ordered, which was lobster salad--lobster over quinoa--which was mediocre. The lobster pieces were tasty but the texture of the quinoa provided an unpleasant combination. I had the halibut, which was bland. Had to repeatedly ask for lemon (for the lobster salad as well) and salt (not provided on the table). The bread was fine. Overall, seems to be a deficiency in the use of spices and seasonings. My companion also had the kale salad, which was bland."

  • "The service was so extraordinarily bad that it ruined what otherwise would have been a good meal. Side dishes arrived AFTER main courses were finished. They were requested at least 4 times. Drink and food portions were unusually small. Prices were exceptionally high. "

  • "We dined here with a purchase from travelzoo. My expectations were not very high, but I was very surprised. The food was fantastic. We ate at Le BerNadine the day before and actually enjoyed the food at The Americano more. The staff was friendly and service was great. Will definitely return without a coupon. "

  • "We had high hopes for this place as the weather was beautiful and we were sittig outside. But the service was so slow and disorganized, and the food was so mediocre, that we were really disappointed. It's fine if you're staying at the hotel but I wouldn't eat there otherwise. "

  • "Had delicious Chilean sea bass, which is hard to find in restaurants these days. The place is very minimal and tastefully decorated. Service is not wonderful, but the atmosphere is. And so is the location right by the high line. The place is perfect for wearing that little black dress, which is what a lot of the young women were wearing. Shared a delicious apple tarte tatin for dessert. Dinner and drinks can be on the expensive side, with a nice selection of interesting cocktails at $15 per drink.(the usual for NY) The mango tequila combination with a peppery rim was really good, the sparkling wine concoction "ze bubbly" was not. Great place overall. "

  • "One of our party was attending a conference at the Javits center nearby. The staff very kindly accommodated our party, starting with 2 of us for lunch at 1pm, with a third joining us an hour later. We really appreciated their efforts and patience, as we were there for two hours. The cocktails were fantastic and so was the chilled pea soup! Delicious bread was served warm and although there were a few hiccups in the food service, overall it was a great experience."

  • "Five gals plus one 1 1/2 yr old baby came for brunch and it was delightful. We came mainly to see Grupo Irek, the Cuban salsa band, and though it was not really a dance scene like we were hoping, it was elegant, bright, somehow quiet but you could still hear the music perfectly, and overall a great experience. The staff was so friendly and super nice to the baby. I will definitely be coming again for brunch."

  • "We enjoyed our meal here. We had a Gilt City voucher and what we saved compared to what we got out of the deal, was well worth it! I would certainly go back! Fresh, quality food and fun flavors and choices. It was a wonderful night!"

  • "The food was absolutely unbelievable. Very interesting mix of Latin French food, we loved every dish. The service was not the best, not sure if this is just my experience or standard to the restaurant."

  • "We had reservation for 3. After seating I mentioned that we had Travelzoo voucher and the disposition of the server changed she brought a different menu which was not disclosed in the Travelzoo voucher. We waited a long time for the apps and the food and we had to ask for utensils. She didn't appear as attentive. The bill was still $115 minus the $70 travelzoo coupon. I didn't realize the deal offered drinks at the rooftop Artico. We received the drinks at dinner, but it would have been nice to go to the rooftop. This is a place people stop for dinner and then go to their next spot. Small portions to be $30 a plate. If it wasn't for Travelzoo I probably would not have gone, I don't think the restaurant would mind that."

  • "Having bought an offer here to enjoy rooftop drinks we were disappointed to find the terrace was closed. A bad case of false advertising. Starter was much too salty but otherwise food and service were good. "

  • "This place in the middle of the Chelsea art scene is a convivial place to recharge after scouring the galleries. The chicken dish I had was delicious--unusual and perfectly prepared. Attentive and friendly staff and a nice ambience make this a go-to place in the neighborhood."

  • "Both brunch and dinner are really good at the Americano. The service is always off though. Either too slow or too keen, bringing the wrong drinks or clearing your plates whie you're still eating..."
