A word from The Ahwahnee Hotel Dining Room - Ahwahnee Hotel

Over the years, The Ahwahnee Dining Room has played host to presidents, royalty and celebrities, in addition to countless visitors, and it continues to be regarded as one of the most impressive dining rooms in the United States.

The Ahwahnee Dining Room conveys a feeling of elegance and refinement while maintaining a comfortable, natural atmosphere. The logs of stripped and polished sugar pine, which support the 34-foot-high beamed ceilings, reinforce the rustic ambiance that is reflective of The Ahwahnee’s mountain surroundings. Wrought iron candelabras suspended from the sugar pine timbers, together with iron candelabras on the tables, create a medieval atmosphere.

Under the culinary leadership of Executive Chef Percy Whatley, The Ahwahnee Dining Room offers traditional California cuisine for breakfast and dinner daily. An array of excellent California wines are also featured on the menu.Continued

  • "As a traveler to very refined and excellent restaurants, this rates near the top as to all categories"

  • "We were at the Ahwahnee Hotel Dining room to celebrate my husband's birthday. I requested for the Queen's table but got the "Honeymoon" table because it was a romantic table for two... the view was fantastic and extremely romantic. My husband was very happy with our service, meal, and view! You can't beat being in the "outdoors" eating 5 star meals, with the view of the Yosemite Falls out the window. Eating and staying at the Ahwahnee Hotel is definitely a must-do for special occasions. It is an unforgettable stay that will always bring back great memories for us!"

  • "We thought the room was unbelievably beautiful. The background piano music was very enjoyable. We both thought the food was outstanding. The person that served our table was very friendly and at the same time very professional. We both enjoyed her. She was a Japanese woman named Judy. She made our evening special. Thank you all."

  • "After a day of driving winding roads and hiking rocky trails, it was nice to relax for lunch at historic Ahwahnee dining room. Prices seemed reasonable so we shared a salad (bread & butter) trout and rigatoni pasta. The portions were huge and delicious. I'm glad we skipped the booze as roads are treacherous; also hit a thunderstorm at Glacier Point. Mentioned "special occasion" and we're seated at an amazing table, center window with a scenic view + wedding party's preparations. Gave it 3 stars because windows' corners had spider webs that had been there for days. Cleaning crew created an unacceptable ambience. I love wildlife: chipmunks, deer, and bears; I'm just not into spiders and flies while dining. All part of Yosemite's wilderness."

  • "The Ahwahnee Dining Room is a classic and a must visit each time we are in Yosemite. The food was good, our server was not good. He has been doing that job too long and was only prompt when it came time to deliver and pick up the check. It is a shame the poor service can spoil a good meal."

  • "What an amazing dining room... in an amazing setting! Our servers were wonderfully thoughtful and attentive!"

  • "Loved everything about this restaurant. Excellent food, attentive service, and beautiful dining room. Pricey, but worth it. Easy reservations through OpenTable."

  • "We had seen exciting features about the Ahwahnee Hotel and its dining room on public television and very much looked forward to having dinner there on both evenings we would be at Yosemite. While the room itself is gorgeous and the pianist complemented the ambiance, our meal experience was awful. My wife ordered her prime rib rare and got medium-well instead. That was replaced by a cut which was closer to rare, but incredibly overseasoned. I ordered swordfish and it, too, was incredibly overseasoned. Whoever the chef (or chefs) involved were, if he/she/they were on the TV program, "Chopped," they would have been chopped. After this experience for what was our first meal, we cancelled our reservation for the second evening."

  • "What a treat to be to have a delicious meal stein one of the world's most beautiful spots. I had the Trout Almandine, and it was delicious! The service was impeccable and the view!!! It's been over 20 years since I last art here, and nothing has changed, nor should it.😄"

  • "The service was odd. Older servers with average skills. The waiter stood behind us to take our order. No offer of appetizers, no offer of coffee at the end. The water/bread/bus helper seemed disinterested. The food was pretty good, but extremely expensive. The waiter seemed to expect a good tip based on the price of the food--not his job performance. The hostess who seated us was excellent. We had a similar experience in the bar earlier. Great hostess, the bartender was a jerk. The gentleman running the dinner reservation computer was outstanding."

  • "Special. An experience no one should miss. Very relaxing evening."

  • "The food and service was excellent. They are serious about the dress code. It was very chilly, which detracted from the dining experience. The windows even had condensation from the over-cooling. It was not hot outside, so they really don't need to keep it that cold in a place where people go to enjoy natural surroundings."

  • "Got the Filet with a dungeness crab topping with the recommended red wine. One of the best meals in a long time. Service was great and the ambiance was...well...Yosemite grandness in the grandest man made room in the Sierra Mountains."
    Dined on 7/14/2014
  • "Everything was excellent except the time it took to have our food delivered after we ordered. Way too long, as in at least 30 minutes for 3 hamburgers and a chicken salad. If the policy is that the wait time from ordering to getting your food is because of preparation, letting folks know so that the time would not "seem so long" would be good.. Not knowing makes the time seem longer... the anticipation. In the end, the food was worth the wait, but we would have ordered an appetizer to curb our hunger while waiting for our food."

  • "There is no question that when it comes to Yosemite and fine dining, there is one show in town. Thank goodness it's such a great show! I have been going to the Ahwahnee for years. Breakfast, Brunch, Sunday Brunch in the summers and dinner, as well as a wonderful and relaxing stay in the winter. The service is amazing. they are fantastic here and really take care of you, even when it's a buffet brunch. the food has also really stepped up in recent years. I mean, REALLY. desserts, oysters, etc. it's pretty fantastic. the sunday brunch is definitely the best, and highly recommended, but the breakfast (on every day BUT Sunday) is just as delicious and nearly half the cost."

  • "We dined here several nights & had wonderful, attentive service & magnificent views. Even the maitre d was so nice. Pianist was just right, did not dominate the room. Onion soup was outstanding, prime rib & mashed potatoes, mushroom ravioli, seared scallops, & lobster bisque were superb. Chocolate bread pudding & apple pie were delicious. The only thing we struck out on was a barely palatable free range chicken dish. The bar area for lunch had tasty chicken waldorf salad on croissant with fruit. Love Ahwahnee dining!"

  • "Our family did not enjoy the dinner. Politely asked to have a differant table location and was asked to walk back to the captains station like a scolded child to then walk back to the potential perfect table. I felt that I was a captive tourist that was being worked over."

  • "I have experienced breakfasts and lunches at the Ahwahnee Hotel Dining Room numerous times and was looking forward to finally having an opportunity for dinner. I ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes; my wife ordered a pork dish. Although the views were terrific and our waiter was charming and knowledgeable, the quality of the food was mediocre. I expect that a prime rib will be a bit on the salty side especially if they use the rock salt method for cooking it. But it was saltier than I anticipated and I couldn't muddle through all of it. The mashed potatoes had an excellent flavor to it, but it too was too salty to finish. My wife's pork plate was dry and tough. We ignored the food, enjoyed the wine and had a good cup of coffee"

  • "We ate here one night during our honeymoon. Our dining experience was fantastic. We ordered the lamb and pasta. The lamb sold out, so we had steak. We were not disappointed. The view of the mountains and the candles on each table, gave the dinner a romantic ambience. The dining room is formal, but fitting for children. I would highly recommend this place."

  • "My wife and I had the wonderful opportunity to dine at the Ahwahnee for breakfast each morning and dinner on two occasions. Each dining experience resulted in consistently outstanding service and food, in a beautifully maintained historic structure located in a breathtakingly beautiful environment!"

  • "We loved the setting and ambiance. We just wished the food had been up to par. We ordered the roasted chicken and the prime rib. Neither of us were impressed with the flavor or side dishes."

  • "the Ahwahnee Hotel dining room is a must if you visit Yosemite. I only wish I had time to take the Grand Tour of the hotel as well. The food was good, but not really a 'foodie' menu, basic steak, chicken, etc, nothing adventurous."

  • "I am not one to leave reviews typically but the Awanhee deserves a short note. Even if I had not just finished several days of arduous Yosemite hiking and the limitations of High Sierra food options, I would have been equally wowed by this special place. The dining room is very impressive in its understataed grandeur. The food delicious, the portions the generous, and the service excellent. I live in DC and spend a lot of time in NYC and have expensive biz meals in both. Few venues in either city compare to the Ahwahnee."

  • "We made our reservation at the Ahwahnee over 6 months ago to celebrate our 54th anniversary. We were looking forward to our celebration dinner in the beautiful dining room. All went well until we ordered. It took an hour and a half before our dinner was served! The dining room was not overly busy so I don't know if the problem was with the server or the kitchen. I noticed that another couple who came in after us were served before us.When I complained, we were given a complimentary order of grilled artichokes which we couldn't eat because they were tough. Needles to say it was not the celebration we were hoping for. This experience will not prevent us from coming again but we were disappointed."

  • "Dinner at the Ahwahnee was a great experience for our last evening in the park. Appetizers, entrees, and wine selection were very nice. Service was good, and it was nice that the staff had time to chat about their personal history at the park."

  • "The very limited food options and the average service level spoils the dining experience."

  • "This classy restaurant amidst the woodsy setting in Yosemite is worth the visit. Although the prices are high, the soups are delicious as is the chocolate bread pudding. Unfortunately, the fish entrees were disappointing. The topanade on the swordfish was too bitter and the sea bass had very little taste because the topping as too overwhelming. The servers were really outstanding. I recommend at least one visit for a special occasion."

  • "I Ordered The Moroccan Lamb, And couscous. There Were No Appreciable Moroccan Flavors InThe Shank, However It WasTender. The Couscous Was Wet, And Flavorless. Mothers Cesar Salad Was gutless, With Not The Slightest Trace Of Anchovy Paste."

  • "Waiter walked our food out past our table and sat it in a staging table behind us. He then walked away and left the food to cool for 15 minutes. Then he returned and thought it was acceptable to serve us COLD entrées. It was very disappointing to see that type service in such a fine dinning atmosphere. Very disappointed with the level of table service and I cannot compliment the chef because the wait service destroyed the food experience."

  • "My friends and I go to the Awahnee for dinner every other year when we visit Yosemite and look forward to the dining experience every time. The food and service are always top notch and the elegant, old-world dining room with the live pianist playing in the background is so relaxed. We have never felt rushed and always love our experience there. It's well worth the price you pay for the very special meal, service and ambience!"

  • "Food and service was very good. Had the lamb shank which was very good. My wife had the sword fish which could have been cooked longer. Service was very good but the maitre'd was rude and not friendly. When I greeted him with a "hello", he looked at me and said "do you have a reservation" in a stern voice. This still bothers me as I should have said something back."

  • "We enjoyed the relaxed and historical atmosphere of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. We definitely would return to try more dishes and Sunday brunch. We celebrated a birthday and anniversary and the restaurant was very accommodating with an individual dessert for each occasion. We really appreciated that special attention."
