Over the years, The Ahwahnee Dining Room has played host to presidents, royalty and celebrities, in addition to countless visitors, and it continues to be regarded as one of the most impressive dining rooms in the United States.

The Ahwahnee Dining Room conveys a feeling of elegance and refinement while maintaining a comfortable, natural atmosphere. The logs of stripped and polished sugar pine, which support the 34-foot-high beamed ceilings, reinforce the rustic ambiance that is reflective of The Ahwahnee’s mountain surroundings. Wrought iron candelabras suspended from the sugar pine timbers, together with iron candelabras on the tables, create a medieval atmosphere.

Under the culinary leadership of Executive Chef Percy Whatley, The Ahwahnee Dining Room offers traditional California cuisine for breakfast and dinner daily. An array of excellent California wines are also featured on the menu.Continued

It was pretty good for what it is--prime rib, well done fish, etc--but nothing special and also pricey. The service was less uniform. My party ate there for 3 dinners and 2 breakfasts, and the service oscillated between very good and lackluster. Some of the wait staff could barely be bothered to help us. Others were friendly and attentive--just luck of the draw who you got for that meal."

  • "We were a group of 8 people. Our main entree came after 1 1/2 hours. Every dish was cold or cooked wrong. The shrimp was tough and flavorless. The steak was well done when it was ordered rare! The broccoli cheddar soup had no flavor. Then there is the service, or lack thereof. No drink refills and with 2 waiters no one ever checked on how the meal came out. Huge disappointment. Would never go back."

  • "I took my children and four grandchildren (ages 7, 11, 11, 12) to the Ahwahnee dining room for a "formal" dining experience. I was called a few days prior to our dinner date by a personable young man who asked if I had any special requests. I told him about Jessica's birthday. Our birthday girl was thrilled when presented with a candled birthday cupcake after our delicious dinner.(no charge for the cupcake!) We each were extremely pleased with our respective dinner choices. Our seven year old ordered from the kid's menu and thoroughly enjoyed a lovely portion of Prime Rib. I appreciated the kitchen making a special vegetarian plate for me. The service was excellent! Both servers were patient and loving with the children. OUTSTANDING!"

  • "To celebrate our 35th we went to Yosemite. The Ahwahnee certainly delivered. The signature El Capitani martini was superb. Crab cakes and Shrimp/scallop appetizers were excellent. The steelhead was perfect and well presented. Creme Brûlée was one of the best ever. And the "Happy Anniversary" cup cake was a cute touch."

  • "It was beautiful and the menu was nice, and they were flexible with substitutions. When my 'special of the day' fish entree arrived, it was cold, but the plate was hot. I didn't want to complain, but there was really no heat to it at all, not even warm, and it was a $36 item. I told the server, and he said he would heat it up. I just said to please not overcook it. It came back slightly warmer, but totally overcooked. When he asked me how it was, I was honest. He didn't do anything about it - didn't offer to replace it or adjust the bill. I just ate cold, overcooked fish."

  • "Just the name should invoke a smile... I made a reservation for 6...for lunch. We arrived early and asked if we could be seated early as well...the front desk staff was FANTASTIC! They accommodated us and were very friendly yet professional. The main dining room is...well...AMAZING! OK, the service...to be honest...it was LESS THAN fantastic. We had to wait for everything...we needed to ask for bread...oh the assist. waiter kept refilling our water glasses! Soft drinks were slow and the food...while it tasted GREAT, it was a VERY slow service. I'm going back in a month with my gf and this time we're having dinner...I can't wait!"

  • "We were able to reserve a table for our Anniversary. The waiters were very kind and knowledgeable. The food was great as well as the decor. The only issue was that the room was cold - not only for us but for most of the guests that we could see. The pianist was exceptional - he added a bit of sophistication to an already elegant room. The room itself is just awesome in size, so it can accommodate just about anything. Kids that we could see were good, but for the crowd that would normally be at the Ahwahnee, you would sort of expect that. Overall an exceptional experience."

  • "This was some of the worse food I've ever had in a restaurant. We ordered the most expensive dish on the menu ( the trout). The fried fish was very greasy and paper thin. The rice was also greasy maybe from the fish that was put on top of the rice. This dish supposedly included vegetables but there were almost none to be found. A cheap greasy spoon would serve better food than this restaurant . The service was slow and to get bread we had to request it to be brought to the table. It is a shame that a hotel like the Ahwahnee is serving this kind of food at the prices they are charging. We were taking friends from another country to eat there and we are very sorry that we took them there. We will never go back there."

  • "We had dinner there two evenings n a row. First evening the food was excellent with a price associated at a certain level, but acceptable due the quality. Second evening, food was unfortunately not at the same level. Chiche was not cooked for the kids, as well as the vegetables for exactly the same plate as day before. One menu was however not chargesdto us. Regarding service, it is clear that there is a will to provide an outstanding service with many waiters, however most of them act not in a friendly way especially with the children. You don't feal being taken care off, you feal you are at they home and you have limited freedom."

  • "Remember you are eating in a National Park. For a National Park, the food is very good, but pricey. If you compared that to a meal in a normal city, the food is overpriced and not that great. For a full meal, you are looking at about $200 bucks with wine. Again, best meal for a 100 miles, but comparing it to similar priced meals in other locations, it is average."

  • "First time having brunch here, after hearing family members and friends speak highly of The Ahwahnee culinary experience. The prime-rib was amazing! The seafood was fresh and delicious. The small kids AND the big kids totally enjoyed the mac-n-cheese. Loved the arugula salad with fresh strawberries. Those panna cotta shooters... had to have more than one... same goes for the crème brulee. What were those tasty chocolate bites filled with tart raspberries... bon-bons? Delish! We were also treated to live piano music... bonus! This all happens in a spectacular setting... hand-craftsmanship is incredible for this nearly 100-year-old building. Brunch at The Ahwahnee... a must-do and definite highlight to any Yosemite visit."

  • "A beautiful room in a magnificent setting. But the food does not match the place or the prices. The hosts are snobbish and the dress code obsessiveness is ridiculous in this setting. There is a written policy (yes) at the entrance that does not match the policy on the website. I am all for traditional dining, but the policies should match. Their good fortune is that it is a monopoly..."

  • "We stayed at the hotel and enjoyed dinner so much we went back again the next evening even after stuffing ourselves at Brunch. Brunch was a buffet offering oysters, shrimp, Eggs Benedict, waffles and more. I'm not usually a fan of any buffet, but I would eat brunch again at the Ahwahnee. Formal dinning without feeling stuffy with a lovely grand piano playing softly in the dinning room. The lobster soup and the smoked duck pasta were two stand out dishes."
