A word from The Ahwahnee Hotel Dining Room - Ahwahnee Hotel

Over the years, The Ahwahnee Dining Room has played host to presidents, royalty and celebrities, in addition to countless visitors, and it continues to be regarded as one of the most impressive dining rooms in the United States.

The Ahwahnee Dining Room conveys a feeling of elegance and refinement while maintaining a comfortable, natural atmosphere. The logs of stripped and polished sugar pine, which support the 34-foot-high beamed ceilings, reinforce the rustic ambiance that is reflective of The Ahwahnee’s mountain surroundings. Wrought iron candelabras suspended from the sugar pine timbers, together with iron candelabras on the tables, create a medieval atmosphere.

Under the culinary leadership of Executive Chef Percy Whatley, The Ahwahnee Dining Room offers traditional California cuisine for breakfast and dinner daily. An array of excellent California wines are also featured on the menu.Continued

  • "I am not one to leave reviews typically but the Awanhee deserves a short note. Even if I had not just finished several days of arduous Yosemite hiking and the limitations of High Sierra food options, I would have been equally wowed by this special place. The dining room is very impressive in its understataed grandeur. The food delicious, the portions the generous, and the service excellent. I live in DC and spend a lot of time in NYC and have expensive biz meals in both. Few venues in either city compare to the Ahwahnee."

  • "Everything was delicious, with beautiful presentation. We always love visiting Yosemite and the grandeur of the hotel."

  • "We ate dinner at the Ahwahnee dining room three times in late June. The food was exceptional, and the service was even better. Our servers had 32, 37 and 42 years serving at the Ahwahnee. We are at the point where we generally have an entree, split a salad and split a dessert. The Ahwahnee steak and prime rib entrees are large, so we split the entree, too. We had plenty of food. The servers did so without question or hesitance. Of course, the food was plated in the kitchen for us. We ordered a dessert one night that apparently was quite new to the menu. The server asked us how we liked it. We told him that it was okay, but not good. We would not order it again. The next thing we knew, the dessert was removed from our bill."

  • "Excellent location and marvelous views. Food and service were top notch"

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the prime rib. Service and ambiance were excellent. The wait staff made our anniversary special. Incredible room and view"

  • "Food and service was very good. Had the lamb shank which was very good. My wife had the sword fish which could have been cooked longer. Service was very good but the maitre'd was rude and not friendly. When I greeted him with a "hello", he looked at me and said "do you have a reservation" in a stern voice. This still bothers me as I should have said something back."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "First we were seated near the kitchen. We asked to be seated closer to the window. We made our reservation a month in advance and the restaurant was near empty when we arrived. At our table there was four pieces of silverware that had food stuck to them. Sent them back to be replaced. Having had two servers, the service was slow and inattentive. Had to ask for more water, bread and sodas. Food was over priced and scenery was better at the bar restaurant."

  • "It is a restaurant with a great atmosphere. In addition, it is the restaurant that I want to revisit."

  • "Sunday brunch is a decadent treat! Come hungry & adventurous to try new delicious dishes! Save room for dessert!"
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "We enjoyed the relaxed and historical atmosphere of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. We definitely would return to try more dishes and Sunday brunch. We celebrated a birthday and anniversary and the restaurant was very accommodating with an individual dessert for each occasion. We really appreciated that special attention."

  • "Nestled in the tall pines of the Yosemite Valley with a view of Glacier Point, in a 1927 structure of striking scope and Native American-esque grandeur, the Dining Room is magnificent. While the food is a little on the pricey side, every dish is wonderfully prepared and presented...without being 'only for the eyes' and overdone. We ate 3 meals a day in the dining room for 4 days. NEVER had a poor experience. My husband especially enjoyed the Mushroom Ravioli, and my Swordfish was perfection. Also, the serving staff is friendly, knowledgeable, tenured and committed to a pleasurable dining event...breakfast, lunch or dinner."

  • "My wife and I had a night to ourselves before meeting our family so planned a romantic dinner at the Ahwahnee Dining room. The room is gorgeous as is the scenery. The weather was hot and the room over chilled. The waitress was friendly and helpful in assisting our moving table to a less drafty one. The food was mediocre and certainly not at all memorable. The prices were high and befitting good but not mediocre food. Breakfasts the next three days were equally unexciting. Bkfst Buffet was unimpressive with food somewhat cold and not well presented. Fruit was soggy and the best dish was the excellent oatmeal. Service was erratic and busboys needed training. Coffee like mud and cold."

  • "We were a family of 11, booked months ahead for a special birthday and a cake was ordered.. Our group included two children under 10 and were seated at 1 PM at the dining rooms request to allow the noon meal to be served to other, smaller parties. A delay of 30+ minutes was required until food was served including appetizers. We would have ordered something when we made our reservations if that was suggested. We requested some bread and butter and were told by the server "not sure we can provide - the kitchen may not have any." It was during the middle of the meal when the bread and butter finally showed up."

  • "Unfortunately not much to choose from. Ridiculously expensive - worst breakfast & dinner ever. Cafeteria food much better-don't waste your money! Eat at Yosemite lodge!!!!!"

  • "At the dining room your table is assigned a waiter and an assistant. The waiter takes your order. It seems the rest is done by the assistant. We ordered a bottle of expensive wine on one evening we dined there. The assistant opened the bottle and serves it to my 22yr old to taste while my husband and I watched. Not cute or funny. Later he awkwardly stood over our table when we were given dessert menus and wouldn't let us be until we ordered something. Finally, he thought it would be cute to teach my daughter how to change the wax in the candle. Awkward! I was so irritated I went to the bar for a drink. Thanks for the memories Kelly! The food in the dining room is good and it will be right up your alley if you like couscous."

  • "Wonderful way to spend our 14th wedding anniversary! They gave us a wonderful window table for our special occasion. They split the soup we order for two and didn't charge us. Dinner was delicious. We ordered dessert, but they also brought us a cupcake as a wedding cake to celebrate our anniversary! Would definitely dine here again!"

  • "We enjoyed our dinners at the Ahwahnee. We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and found that the selections became a bit redundant. After 3 nights, we were satisfied with our experience there and moved on to other venues. We really enjoyed the live piano music on a Steinway Concert Grand piano."

  • "Definitely worth seeing this unique in dining room in the amazing yosemite national park. Was very disappointed in ny prime rib. Very peppery. Sent it back & ordered steak which was very good. Waitress was unconcerned. Took a long time for order to come. This is an expensive restaurant so had high expectations that were not met"

  • "The dining room is gorgeous, the view is gorgeous, and there was live piano and candlelight - superb ambience. Our server was also a delight. Unfortunately, the food was about double the price that it would be at any other restaurant and took a VERY long time to arrive at the table. I doubt I would return for a full dinner again, but would perhaps return for the more moderately priced brunch."

  • "If you are a couple then it's a wonderful place for a romantic meal while you are in the woods. We had two teenagers with us who did not want to spend much time and at $45/head we would have been better served going to Curry Village. Children do get a much lower rate $15 which makes it reasonable to bring younger children."

  • "We dined at the Ahwanee dinning room for our one year wedding anniversary. The food and service were both very good, however they did not acknowledge our anniversary. I think the host wasn't able to find our reservation (looked confused and took a while) but said nothing and seated us because we came up as a no show. One big complaint - we had a later reservation and not even a quarter of the way through dinner they were breaking down and setting up tables a few feet away. I assume they were getting ready for breakfast the next day, but it was distracting and sort of ruined the ambiance for us. The same thing happened that morning when we were there at the end of the breakfast seating. It was tacky. We will likely not return."

  • "Our lunch here was the most recent of several visits. If you're planning a visit to Yosemite, regardless of whether you're visiting for the day or staying - be it in a tent, the housekeeping camp or one of the lodges - give yourself a treat and make reservations at the Ahwahnee for a lunch or dinner. The cost, which is likely far less than you may think (you can check the menus and prices online) is well worth the experience and the food you'll enjoy. Once in your life, you should experience dining in a place as unique and beautiful as the Ahwahnee. Bear in mind that for dinner dress is more formal; once, my husband and I were camping but brought clothes for dinner at the Ahwahnee - it was worth the trouble! Lunch, however, is more casual."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "Ambiance is A-one. The service is fantastic. The food is good - but for the price, it should be even better. Granted, this is the Ahwahnee; but from a purely VALUE point of view, the dinner was WAY expensive and the food was not keeping up."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "The food is great here and the view is even better! We ate here for lunch one day and breakfast t the next on a recent get a way to Yosemite. The hotel is amazing and an experience in itself. The quality of the food is good but a bit pricy, 2 hamburgers and 2 cokes will cost you $50. The breakfast offers a buffet for $25 or a menu priced from $10 to $25 for items. The service is a bit slow, so if you are in a hurry this isn't the place for you. I will for sure return!"
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Ambience was the best. My food was under cooked and extremely pasty so I couldn't eat it. The other three meals were ok and eatable. I felt the waiter was a bit stuffy. I had looked forward to having a meal at the Ahawahnee for years and was disappointed with the meal and stuffy waiter."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "we enjoyed the restaurant very much. the food was very good and service was good. did not expect to find a restaurant that good in the middle of Yosemite."

  • "I had the trout almandine which was perfectly done and although it was supposed to come with rice pilaf the restaurant allowed me to substitute mushrooms upon request. My girl friend had the anti pasti wrap and this was also well done. Both plates were generous portions with appropriate sides. Our waiters name was David and he was very friendly, courteous and attentive to our needs. Overall this was a wonderful experience and the view of the mountains is spectacular."

  • "The Ahwanee Dining room is a splurge for us but worth it. The food was good and the service was attentive but not cloying. Although the room is not that noisy, I had trouble hearing our server."

  • "Fantastic food in an awesome hotel. My mom and sister had something that resembled salmon, I had the chicken. Everything was terrific! The waiter seemed unfriendly at first, but quickly warmed up. Doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

  • "When we walked into the dining room for dinner, it was magical...... felt as if we were transported into a time of elegance. Visually quite lovely! And the service and food were wonderful. We went to celebrate our anniversary and were not disappointed. Breakfast was ok but standard fare, but dinner was exciting (creative gourmet dishes). We couldn't wait to go back for a second dinner at Ahwahnee."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "The food, service, and ambiance are perfection. There are no simple meals - even the hamburger is a very flavorful experience for the taste buds. Making reservations is simple and convenient. The view from every table is amazing. I highly recommend stopping by for a meal - you will find that it is a lovely experience in and of itself. Comfortable, quality, and experienced service will surround you."

  • "Hotel Staff very arrogant from Restaurant Reservationist to Concierge to Dining Room Hostess. Waiter (Walter) was friendly, efficient, and professional. Reservationist and Concierge were very condescending when I informed them that I was dining, but not a hotel guest. We arrived for lunch at 11:50 am for a 12 pm reservation and was turned away and wouldn't be seated until exactly 12 pm, although other guests were being seated. Upon leaving the restaurant, the Hostess turned away and offered no parting remarks and displayed pompous tone when being seated and leaving the establishment. The food was good, but not for the prices or the unfriendly staff."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "We had been here previously, and the food quality has definitely gone down. They seemed to have added more seating, so the service also isn't quite what it used to be. On the same note, it is more family friendly now. The food servings are much larger than they used to be, but bigger doesn't mean better!"

  • "Great food and service. Reservation was really not needed but you never know. Been there before and had to wait. Wonderful way to start our special day at the Ahwahnee Hotel. Moved on from there to the Wawona hotel...good time there as well."

  • "I've been here many times. Everything is delicious. Wait staff are pro. And ambiance? Out of this world! Enjoy!"
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "I realize dinner guests at The Ahwahnee are a captive audience, but that does not provide license for serving food that is barely edible at best. Prime rib was like shoe leather, pasta appeared old and dry and barely reheated, onion soup was the worst I've ever had and the entire family left hungry. Prices are very expensive, which I wouldn't mind if quality was served rather than old leftover, overcooked meals. A complaint to the Maitre'd resulted in a standard "I'll let the manager know." Extremely disappointing."

  • "Dining at the Ahwanee Hotel has become a recent tradition after visiting the park for over 20 years. The elegance, ambience and professional service has made it a wonderful experience. Although it does have a limited dress code we like to dress up and make it a real experience."

  • "Ate here both nights of our stay, nice wine list, had the best steak (prime). Thought the back waiters were better than the head waiters! Plenty of food."
