A word from The Ahwahnee Hotel Dining Room - Ahwahnee Hotel

Over the years, The Ahwahnee Dining Room has played host to presidents, royalty and celebrities, in addition to countless visitors, and it continues to be regarded as one of the most impressive dining rooms in the United States.

The Ahwahnee Dining Room conveys a feeling of elegance and refinement while maintaining a comfortable, natural atmosphere. The logs of stripped and polished sugar pine, which support the 34-foot-high beamed ceilings, reinforce the rustic ambiance that is reflective of The Ahwahnee’s mountain surroundings. Wrought iron candelabras suspended from the sugar pine timbers, together with iron candelabras on the tables, create a medieval atmosphere.

Under the culinary leadership of Executive Chef Percy Whatley, The Ahwahnee Dining Room offers traditional California cuisine for breakfast and dinner daily. An array of excellent California wines are also featured on the menu.Continued

  • "We had a spectacular dinner crabcake, lobster soup and great steaks. Super wine and a fantastic environment world class."

  • "A beautiful room in a magnificent setting. But the food does not match the place or the prices. The hosts are snobbish and the dress code obsessiveness is ridiculous in this setting. There is a written policy (yes) at the entrance that does not match the policy on the website. I am all for traditional dining, but the policies should match. Their good fortune is that it is a monopoly..."

  • "The breakfast brunch was good but dinner was overpriced for the quality. The service was excellent. The place smelled sort of musty during dinner but not during breakfast. I'm not sure why. I would recommend this place for the breakfast brunch for the food and dinner for the ambience"

  • "They provided a special touch of the 34th Anniversary message on the desert plate. And the pianist was wonderful. We had excellent service and awesome food. Well Done"

  • "This very nice restaurant is worth a visit......great food and a scenic, beautiful view from our table made for a very enjoyable evening at this historic landmark. Best restaurant at Yosemite !"

  • "Menu good with something for most people, although saying that a change of menu each night would be good. Can get noisy with some larger parties, not exactly romantic for a couple."

  • "We had a wonderful evening at the Ahwahnee Hotel. 20 of us went for a special dinner while at Yosemite - a family gathering. It is such a beautiful place - huge rooms with high ceilings, and the woodwork is gorgeous. We sat at two tables of 10 each. The service was a little slow, but gracious and friendly. The food was mostly delicious and the ambiance was great. THe piano player could play all the requests we had. We took our time and made a night of it. It was expensive, but we expected that going into it, so no surprise there. I would recommend it for a special occasion, or just to see the beautiful hotel."

  • "We did not stay at this expensive magnificent resort but had dinner here and wanted to see the place. It was not prohibitively expensive and we were given a beautiful table with a lovely view. The service was perfect. I had the duck in a pasta sauce and my wife had the steelhead trout. there were kids in the dining room but I would consider that a luxury. For adults, however, a visit to Yosemite would be enhanced by this dining experience. We had drinks at the outside bar and observed a fawn followed by its mother."

  • "We found the meal itself at the Ahwahnee to be surprisingly good relative to expectation (Caesar salad & pork chop Milanaise). The portions were huge. The service, while prompt, was extremely disappointing. We asked several questions about the size and composition of the meal, so as not to mis-order or over-order, but the server did not provide us with full or accurate information. For instance, one does not need a salad if one's main course is covered with a large arugula salad. Also, each chop was more than large enough to feed two hungry adults. I have never before felt quite so misled by a server."

  • "We were welcomed, and served, beyond my expectations. The lunch was delicious! (Try the Cheese Steak Sandwich!) The hotel, the dining room particularly, and the Park in general are all delightfully 1st class!."

  • "This is the best place to eat in the Yosemite Park. It is about the same price as the horrible food in the cafeteria. The extra is the tip. We just ordered eggs and baccon, incredible french toast, great blueberry pancakes and strong coffee."

  • "Great place to have a bite to eat just so you can see this historic hotel and grounds. Beacuse we were staying at the Ahwahnee, we would not have seen the hotel if we hadn't made a breakfast reservation. Great way to start the day in the park!"

  • "Although we were seated fairly quickly even though we arrived an hour early, we ended up waiting for nearly half an hour before our waiter finally took our order. The staff that brought us our water and bread could not have possibly looked more miserable. When we finally got our food, the prime rib was overcooked and the chicken was bland. The pianist didn't know a standard song request ("The Way You Look Tonight"), but at least the dining room looked really great (if more than a little loud)."

  • "This is a bit pricy but great restaurant to have lunch or dinner. Food is very good, waiters very freindly and knowledgable. The beauty and style of this superb dining hall, made the expérience even greater."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "The food, service and atmosphere are very good. The restaurant is a bit over stuffy and formal. It is in a national park and most people don't take dress clothes when hiking/camping."

  • "Great food but service very slow and unapologetic for delays."

  • "We were at the Ahwahnee Hotel Dining room to celebrate my husband's birthday. I requested for the Queen's table but got the "Honeymoon" table because it was a romantic table for two... the view was fantastic and extremely romantic. My husband was very happy with our service, meal, and view! You can't beat being in the "outdoors" eating 5 star meals, with the view of the Yosemite Falls out the window. Eating and staying at the Ahwahnee Hotel is definitely a must-do for special occasions. It is an unforgettable stay that will always bring back great memories for us!"

  • "We thought the room was unbelievably beautiful. The background piano music was very enjoyable. We both thought the food was outstanding. The person that served our table was very friendly and at the same time very professional. We both enjoyed her. She was a Japanese woman named Judy. She made our evening special. Thank you all."

  • "After a day of driving winding roads and hiking rocky trails, it was nice to relax for lunch at historic Ahwahnee dining room. Prices seemed reasonable so we shared a salad (bread & butter) trout and rigatoni pasta. The portions were huge and delicious. I'm glad we skipped the booze as roads are treacherous; also hit a thunderstorm at Glacier Point. Mentioned "special occasion" and we're seated at an amazing table, center window with a scenic view + wedding party's preparations. Gave it 3 stars because windows' corners had spider webs that had been there for days. Cleaning crew created an unacceptable ambience. I love wildlife: chipmunks, deer, and bears; I'm just not into spiders and flies while dining. All part of Yosemite's wilderness."

  • "The Ahwahnee Dining Room is a classic and a must visit each time we are in Yosemite. The food was good, our server was not good. He has been doing that job too long and was only prompt when it came time to deliver and pick up the check. It is a shame the poor service can spoil a good meal."

  • "What an amazing dining room... in an amazing setting! Our servers were wonderfully thoughtful and attentive!"

  • "Ate at the hotel for dinner 3 straight nights. 2 of them were good. 1 was not so good. I ate with my wife and daughter (8). The issue one night was with the service - our waiter was busy with a big table near us and one of the managers had to take our order, serve us food, etc. The waiter basically never introduced himself, the items bought out were wrong (for my daughter) several times, and the service was extremely, extremely slow. On the other two nights, the servers were different and the service was better. Overall, the food was good/very good but not the best. I've had better food in other restaurants, but the view and ambience was obviously good. The piano player was great."

  • "The ambiance in the room is lovely. The food not so great...I would say mediocre trying to be upscale. Service was good and they gave my husband a cupcake with a candle on it for his birthday. If staying at the hotel, it is the only place to dine other than the bar. I was surprised that when I asked if the pasta were fresh, she said no. It was a ravioli and I would not pay 28 dollars for packaged pasta. The caesar salad was limp and half of the leaves were wilted. I was going to send it back but my husband was not in the mood for that and starving already. Just keep in mind if you eat here to ask about things and to know that is overpriced due to the location. We brought in our own special bottle of wine and corkage was thirty dollars."

  • "The ambiance is amazing there are no bad seats. We especially enjoyed the live piano music, it really added to the experience. The food was a solid "B". We especially enjoyed the smoked duck pasta dish and the prime rib. We ate there all four nights of our stay. A recommendation for those staying in the park is to make your dinner reservations there every night, and ASAP. I believe it is the only restaurant that takes reservations and if the park is crowded it will be a long wait."

  • "Loved everything about this restaurant. Excellent food, attentive service, and beautiful dining room. Pricey, but worth it. Easy reservations through OpenTable."

  • "We had seen exciting features about the Ahwahnee Hotel and its dining room on public television and very much looked forward to having dinner there on both evenings we would be at Yosemite. While the room itself is gorgeous and the pianist complemented the ambiance, our meal experience was awful. My wife ordered her prime rib rare and got medium-well instead. That was replaced by a cut which was closer to rare, but incredibly overseasoned. I ordered swordfish and it, too, was incredibly overseasoned. Whoever the chef (or chefs) involved were, if he/she/they were on the TV program, "Chopped," they would have been chopped. After this experience for what was our first meal, we cancelled our reservation for the second evening."

  • "What a treat to be to have a delicious meal stein one of the world's most beautiful spots. I had the Trout Almandine, and it was delicious! The service was impeccable and the view!!! It's been over 20 years since I last art here, and nothing has changed, nor should it.😄"

  • "The service was odd. Older servers with average skills. The waiter stood behind us to take our order. No offer of appetizers, no offer of coffee at the end. The water/bread/bus helper seemed disinterested. The food was pretty good, but extremely expensive. The waiter seemed to expect a good tip based on the price of the food--not his job performance. The hostess who seated us was excellent. We had a similar experience in the bar earlier. Great hostess, the bartender was a jerk. The gentleman running the dinner reservation computer was outstanding."

  • "Special. An experience no one should miss. Very relaxing evening."
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "The food and service was excellent. They are serious about the dress code. It was very chilly, which detracted from the dining experience. The windows even had condensation from the over-cooling. It was not hot outside, so they really don't need to keep it that cold in a place where people go to enjoy natural surroundings."
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "Got the Filet with a dungeness crab topping with the recommended red wine. One of the best meals in a long time. Service was great and the ambiance was...well...Yosemite grandness in the grandest man made room in the Sierra Mountains."
    Dined on 7/14/2014
  • "Everything was excellent except the time it took to have our food delivered after we ordered. Way too long, as in at least 30 minutes for 3 hamburgers and a chicken salad. If the policy is that the wait time from ordering to getting your food is because of preparation, letting folks know so that the time would not "seem so long" would be good.. Not knowing makes the time seem longer... the anticipation. In the end, the food was worth the wait, but we would have ordered an appetizer to curb our hunger while waiting for our food."

  • "There is no question that when it comes to Yosemite and fine dining, there is one show in town. Thank goodness it's such a great show! I have been going to the Ahwahnee for years. Breakfast, Brunch, Sunday Brunch in the summers and dinner, as well as a wonderful and relaxing stay in the winter. The service is amazing. they are fantastic here and really take care of you, even when it's a buffet brunch. the food has also really stepped up in recent years. I mean, REALLY. desserts, oysters, etc. it's pretty fantastic. the sunday brunch is definitely the best, and highly recommended, but the breakfast (on every day BUT Sunday) is just as delicious and nearly half the cost."

  • "We dined here several nights & had wonderful, attentive service & magnificent views. Even the maitre d was so nice. Pianist was just right, did not dominate the room. Onion soup was outstanding, prime rib & mashed potatoes, mushroom ravioli, seared scallops, & lobster bisque were superb. Chocolate bread pudding & apple pie were delicious. The only thing we struck out on was a barely palatable free range chicken dish. The bar area for lunch had tasty chicken waldorf salad on croissant with fruit. Love Ahwahnee dining!"
