Diner Reviews
  • "We arrived early and told they had a table "in a quiet corner" ready for us (literally in a corner, one seat couldn't be pulled out all the way). When asked if we could move (several available 4-tops) we were told this was the best table in the house. We decided to stay. The waiter came to take our drink order, pointed to there drink specials. We picked a special and then told they didn't have an ingredient to make it so an alternate was picked. We were told the specials and given a minute. We all decided to order the same Kobe burger. The waiter came back to take our order and when we said we'd make it easy, he said "oh I see I wrote a note, no Kobe beef tonight". Probably something to tell your guests whether you think they'd order or not. "

  • "Thalia is always reliably good. The waitress asked if we were going to a show, and at what time. She assured us that we had plenty of time to dine leisurely. The food preparation was excellent, especially since I am on a "no-salt" diet. The kitchen was absolutely accommodating. We've dined at Thalia many times before, and will continue to enjoy this wonderful restaurant."

  • "Apparently, Thalia is the place to be on matinee Wednesday, or so my companions and I discovered one exceptionally busy lunchtime. Notwithstanding the apparently fact that every table was filled, the service was prompt and attentive, with an eye to getting us out in time to easily make curtain. Food is generously proportioned and eclectic and the virtually all female crowd seemed to be digging in. The ambience it fun and I suspect the bar scene is as well. Highly recommended."

  • "We eat brunch at Thalia whenever we have the opportunity to visit NYC. Food is amazing, service is outstanding. This is one not to miss. Have been doing this for several years and have never been disappointed."

  • "This was our 2nd time dining at Thalia. My husband and I had brunch/lunch there in September 2013, and it was a positive experience so I decided we would try it for a late night after theatre dinner with our two sons. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. The tables were packed in, and because the place was at 90 percent occupancy, fitting at our table was tight. We placed a pre dinner drink order after flagging down a waitress who wasn't assigned to our table, and she kindly helped us. When our server did arrive ten minutes later, she was more interested in rushing us out the door. Bar service was bad, decent good, but Poor service from the get go. We won't be back."

  • "We ate here for brunch before a Sunday matinee. Very nice, liked the atmosphere, the food, the service was very good and efficient, never overbearing. Brunch menu was straightforward and everything was delicious. Good choice for our party of 6."

  • "The food is good, even a bit creative. We had broiled salmon with some embellishments and it was cooked properly and tasted very good. Ambiance is big detraction here because the noise level is intense, not just loud. The general décor level is nothing but pedestrian. We had a pre-show special meal which had limited choice but adequate and they did get us out on time."

  • "Fantastic brunch spot, with a broad choice of breakfast, lunch, or sweet meals -- and $10 for unlimited drinks is fantastic! Crab cakes were good, eggs benedict were slightly overcooked, but the smoked salmon was wonderful. Beautiful interior and a very pleasant vibe."

  • "I have been to Thalia many times for brunch but this time was not like the rest. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation because they were "trying to work some things out". Then, we did not get our drinks for another 15-20 minutes. We have multiple issues with the service and the staff was not at all apologetic, instead they tried to accuse us of lying and continued to make up policies at the end of the meal which they were not following through out the meal."

  • "We did not choose from the price-fixe menu but rather a la carte. Service was friendly and courteous, food was great and my wife and I were able to have a conversation without having to raise our voices to be heard."

  • "My mom and I came here before our 2:30 broadway show! We had a 12:15 reservation but arrived early and we were seated immediately. The table we sat at was a tight squeeze, I was pretty uncomfortable. The woman behind me was practically touching my back and speaking very loudly.. That was the only disappointment. We ordered endless mimosas and bloody Mary's ( $10) awesome!! And I got the huevos rancheros.. I could have licked the plate they were outstanding! My mom got an omelette which she enjoyed.. Our bill was so reasonable especially for the amount of food we got! Would definitely go back!"

  • "We have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past and have had a great experience but there seems to have been some major changes. The food was very average and the presentation poor. It seems the raw bar selections, for which they were famous, have been almost eliminated. It seems that they had put in more tables to crowd more people in and the noise level was so loud, we could barely hear each other. We will be looking elsewhere in the future."

  • "really enjoyed the food and ambience of the restaurant, the inside architecture and decor was really beautiful. friends and i got the frittata, creme brûlée french toast, and eggs benedict and all of us really enjoyed our meals. also got mimosas and bloody mary's and those were really good as well. definitely would go back and also at a great location."

  • "We enjoyed our latest dinner at Thalia so much! The restaurant is decorated in a fun, chic manner with a great bar area too.We were seated promptly and greeted by a server within minutes. She was fabulous! We started with a great bottle of Pinot noir from their well balanced wine list. The spinach salad was large enough for two of us to split it! We both ordered the short ribs which were tender and served with a delectable red wine cinnamon sauce. The truffle mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus were the perfect accompaniments! The vanilla cheesecake with passion fruit sauce and berry compote wad the perfect ending to a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Thalia used to have very good food and I always enjoyed eating there when in the theatre district. I hadn't been there in awhile and should have known by the window change that the restaurant had changed to draw in more tourists. Service was slow even though the server assured us we'd make our show with plenty of time. We arrived at 6:20 (no worries), had no drinks, had salad and waited almost 40 minutes for our entrees. Due to some unforeseen stomach distress, when my entree came, I had no appetite. Did the server ask what was wrong with the dish, me, anything to signifiy that I was unhappy with something? Not a word! We got the check she, wrapped my dish and did not say a word! Won't be going back."

  • "I was looking for a place that was open late with a good atmosphere and menu. I seldom get the chance to eat out so picking a new place to have a late Dinner was important. I'm very happy with Thalia and have already recommended it to others."

  • "Location was great before theater. Varied menu satisfied everyone and all dishes were delicious and artfully presented. Wait staff was friendly, attentive and punctual. We were in, well fed and out on time without feeling rushed."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Thalia. I really like the decor of this restaurant and the food was good. I would rank the service as good, but not outstanding. We were never told the specials and were seated for a good 10 minutes before anybody came by. However, the server was very nice. I had the sea scallops which were delicious. Overall I would recommend this place for a nice dinner out - but probably not as a foodie experience."

  • "Ambiance was great, service was great, pricing very fair, food was good but it depended what you ordered. Eggs Benedict excellent, omelete great, lobster benedict was tasty but lobster was tough and overcooked and this was the special of the day. Inclusion of drinks with brunch was a very nice touch. Would definitely try it again."

  • "I have had a wonderful brunch at this restaurant on a couple of occasions. This time I was dismayed to be told the brunch menu is only available on week-ends and I was planning to have it on Wednesday. I was not in the mood for lunch but had to settle on something. I chose Mac and cheese which was very good but not the light meal I had planned prior to sitting in a play."

  • "My husband and I went after a talk at the NY TIMES CENTER. We got there at 8 and the theater crowd was gone, thereby making the restaurant less noisy and more intimate. Food was very good. We had the cod fish special which was delicious and a wine recommended by our waiter. It was a lovely meal"

  • "Nice place when you want dinner or brunch before theatre .I Have been there many times. However this time I ws disappointed that there was a$2.00 surcharge on a sandwich for lunch because a request to substitute the cheese on the sandwich was made due to an allergy."

  • "Very convenient to the Theatre district, very professionally run, food was outstanding, they let us sit early at our table to wait for others to arrive and did not rush as at all. Highly recommend."

  • "Third time to Thalia before theater. We arrived a little late but the kitchen and server were able to accommodate us easily with an appetizer to share and 2 main courses. Started with Fantastic Roll which I enjoyed since it had very little rice. Entree was the zucchini as pasta which was very hearty and flavorful. So much so that I took half home. Would recommend if you're in the area."

  • "Thalia's looks as good as it is...the restaurant is very pleasing to the eye and the food was delish! Noone had any complaints about their orders. The service was very good and the staff was more than accomodating. We will recommend it to others."

  • "My party of 4 dined at Thalia a thurs night before our show in the Gershwin Theater. We had great drinks (Pomegranate martini was to die for!), excellent food and greatly enjoyed the ambiance and layout of the restaurant."

  • "I tried Thalia for restaurant week. The appetizers (roasted zucchini and vegetable carpaccio) were both delicious and satisfying. The pork loin entrée with mushrooms, potato & beets were cooked perfectly. The pork was tender and juicy. The tri-tip steak looked great, but it was on the chewy side. The desserts were excellent. We had the apple tartin, which had a nice crunchy bottom, with a nice warm apple topping topped off with ice cream, which melted nicely. The chocolate molten lave cake was decadent & rich, and went well with the dulce de leche ice cream. They also served it with pistachio ice cream, which tasted great on it's on."

  • "Thalia is a real find. A reasonable place to go for lunch on theatre day. Service was excellent and waitress most accommodating. We had the lunch special menu which offers either Appetizer and Entrée or Entrée and Dessert. We each had our own Frittata entrée (which was scrumptious) and we shared the salad and dessert. It was most filling. Another option is soup as appetizer or an actual appetizer. As I have food restrictions, modifications were made for my meal which were greatly appreciated. The coffee is delicious! The only downside to Thalia is that, since it is a very open atmosphere with high ceilings, noise carries quite a bit and large parties can sound a bit loud. I will definitely go back."
