Diner Reviews
  • "Always enjoy eating at Thalia. The food is always good and the menu has something for everyone. Very good happy hour and attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. Definitely will return."

  • "I have had brunch and dinner here many times over many years. It is always good, sometimes better than good but always good. The creamy polenta appetizer has been on the menu forever and I hope it never leaves. My salmon was well cooked, but it was swimming in a near soup-like mixture of too many things. My friend's prawns were perfect. The waitress asked if we were pre-theater, and service was excellent. The place was packed and very noisy, not surprising for pre-theater, but less than relaxing. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our meal (house made sorbet was fruity and just a little icy) and I will go happily return next time I am in that area."

  • "You would be surprised to find such a fabulous restaurant in the heart of the theater district in New York City. But it truly is awesome in every way -- food and service and atmosphere !!!!"

  • "Thalia has been a regular "go-to" for us for about 12 years. The weekend brunch, in particular, is reasonable, tasty and has a variety of offerings to suit every taste. This past Sunday's visit was not my favorite. I would go earlier if possible, As you approach matinee time it gets crowded and hectic."

  • "My experience at Thalia was wonderful. The people who work there are friendly, the service was excellent, and they were very accommodating. The presentation of the food was great and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend tell you anyone who wants to experience a wonderful meal and the ambianve is gorgeous. My friend and I went there for both brunch and dinner. That is how much we enjoyed this restaurant."

  • "The four of us had a great time, relaxed no rushing though Thalia was a hopping restaurant, food was good, our wine was excellent. Our server did a great job. We would recommend and probably go again"

  • "Went to NYC over the weekend with my 9 yr old son. Discovered Thalia on line and was not dissappointed! The menu, not overwhelming in legnth, has something for everyone from Sushi to burgers to pasta! My son loved his pasta! I had oysters and sweet potato gnochhi and both were wonderful! Can't wait to try it again!!"

  • "Always happy to dine here before theater (and after). The food's very good, service is friendly and efficient and I love the decor--large, beautiful posters. I would have given Thalia 5 stars except for the noise level which can occasionally be too "vibrant" when dining."

  • "Small plates, good food for the theater bound. They were mindful of our curtain time."

  • "We love this restaurant for client lunches on MONDAYS! The City is empty, the food is good and it is quiet on Monday. The Polenta with Mushroom Reduction Sauce is the best appetizer I have ever shared with anyone...it is why we go there often. Crabcakes are good, burger is BIG and good. Waiters are generally cheerful. It is also a very convenient restaurant if you are going to Lincoln Center or the Met Opera. Taxi's are always available outside and heading in the right direction. • "I ordered crab cake sandwich without the spicy oil but tho the crab cakes were delicious it was too spicy for my taste. I did not send it back but believe they used the spicy oil. I did not want french fries that came with the meal and requested tomatoes instead. They gave me a generous amount of tomatoes that were perfectly ripe and delicious."

  • "We discovered Thalia when we had theater tickets in the neighborhood; this is the second time we had lunch here, and we look forward to returning. Both my husband and I had salads ( arugula ) which were fresh and delicious with a light lemon dressing. We also splurged on desserts: my husband , who loves cheesecake, said this was one of the best he's eaten. I had a fabulous tarte tatin. The bread served tasted home made and the coffee was good. The staff was friendly and helpful, from the waitress to the busboys and the hostess. 3 cheers for Thalia!"

  • "We were there for pre-theater and it was a perfect fit. They have a two course lunch which was great. Food was indeed very good. Noisy restaurant. Bunny"

  • "We were in town for my daughter's 21st birthday. Food and ambiance was great. Hostess' were very pleasant. Waitress, not so much. Not very attentive, couldn't answer questions and I overheard her bad-mouthing another patron to another waitress. Other than that, it was a good experience and the guy assigned to help her was very attentive and nice. Again, the food was very good and I would definitely recommend the place to others."

  • "Reserved lunch for a nice meal before a Sat show. We arrived 30 minute prior to our planned time and were quickly seated. While a lunch menu was not available, the reasonably priced brunch menu offered a nice variety of breakfast and lunch choices. Our food arrived hot, cooked to our requests and appealing in presentation. Portion size was more than adequate. We would return again and recommend to others."

  • "located just around the corner from where Book of Mormon is playing, staff was extremely helpful in making sure we got out on time. Food presentation is lovely, decor is fresh and lively, if a bit dark, and the overall vibe is just what you'd want before a show."

  • "The food was great, the service fine, but the noise level did not allow for conversation."

  • "Thalia was a fantastic find. The food was fantastic, I had the lobster bisque and tuna for dinner my boyfriend had the pork and he said it was the best he's ever had. Really great atmosphere in the restaurant as well."

  • "I was at Thalia two times in one week and it's just the best!! I have recommended it several times and will definitely return when I am in the area. I cannot think of how it can be improved upon. The menu is great; very imaginative and certainly, generous portions. I understand the chef has been there for 9 years. I hope he/she never leaves. We were celebrating a 10th birthday and the wait staff couldn't have been nicer to Bianca!! Even the bus boy did an exceptional job and we told the manager who came over to our table and also told him as well. Gina was our waitperson and she was just delightful."

  • "I would say this resturant was good to fair overall. My ahi tuna was dry so my entree was not good. Had to ask for the bread (which was also a little dray/stale) but the service was generally pretty good. They need to work on the food. "

  • "Great place to meet friends for brunch prior to Sunday matinee. Reasonable prices and excellent Bloody Mary's. The shrimp and avocado omelet was yummy as was my friend's Creme Brulee French Toast and my other friend's Smoked Salmon eggs Benedict. Can get crowded at peak brunch hours."

  • "The restaurant has absolutely delicious food with a great variety, wonderful service and is beautifully decorated! I loved the innovative use of 4 separate individual restrooms. The only thing that I wish it was better able to control was the noise level. We had a party of 5 and it was difficult for conversation as the restaurant filled up. "

  • "I've been a fan for years but took my friend for Brunch who has lived on 57th and 8th for 40 years and had never been there! She loved it! She said that it was the best huevos rancheros she ever had! She must have mentioned that she's definitely coming back like 10 times! They have $1 Oysters every night! Cheese manu! Great atmosphere!"

  • "I picked Thalia because it was close to the theater for a pre-show dinner. As noted elsewhere, it was bustling in both the bar area and the restaurant, and is a fairly large space for NY. The food was not memorable (polenta, Cornish hen) but the staff was attentive and one of their advertised specialties seems to be an oyster happy hour (which I didnt try). All in all, I would have to say that you can do better elsewhere in the theater/Hells Kitchen area with something perhaps more quiet/intimate. "

  • "We had lunch/brunch before theatre. We were a party of three with one child, 8 years old. The menu was perfect and servings large. The ambience of the restaurant is lovely."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "We went here before going to the theater. The tables are close to one another so you can hear the other diners' conversations. Also there are couches and tables where groups sit and their voices carried throughout the restaurant. It was very difficult to hold a conversation here. The food was good nothing to rave about. "

  • "Great for pre-theater. Good efficient service, nice menu and attentive to timing. Also very convenient and a gem for the theater district."

  • "We were the first for dinner and we felt special. My order required many changes and the wait staff were perfectly tuned in to accomodate. Tuna was great, tomato soup was very creamy. So well located in the theater district that I'm sure we'd return. The reservation needed to be changed to an earlier time and that too was a snap."
