A word from Tewksbury Inn
Oldwick is in the heart of the Hunterdon County horse country, and the Tewksbury Inn is at the center of this 18th-century historic district. The Inn is a former stagecoach stop where the 21st-century traveler can enjoy the traditional friendly tavern atmosphere with fine food that reflects wide ranging influences. In 2008 the Tewksbury Inn began opening on Mondays for the first time and those who join us have been in for a real treat: Our entire wine list at half price. Our exquisite food deserves pairing with an equally great wine and at this value, we think you will agree.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Thank you, again for another wonderful dinner with friends. You are our favorite!"

  • "This was our first visit to Tewksbury Inn. The food was very good to excellent, and they have an extensive wine list. We enjoyed a very nice Pinot Noir. We ate in the dining room (not the bar), which is better suited to conversation. Our server was helpful and responsive at first, then seemed to disappear for a while. I think they might have been a little short on wait staff that night. Tables are on the small side - if you have a party of four you really have just enough room for your plate and glasses - no more. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves and will likely be back."

  • "My wife and I stopped at the Tewskbury Inn on our way home from a weekend get away. Stopped at the bar for a drink. Wife had a Dark & Stormy. Great selection of beer on tap. The staff was very friendly. The bar was crowded on a Sunday evening. Except for the obnoxious guy that sent his oysters back after he ate them and then tried to get them for free, all was cool. There is one in every crowd. Sat in the front window for dinner which was great. The food was an 11 out of 10! Had the Yellow Fin Tuna that was fantastic! My wife was very happy with the scallops. Good wine list. Highly recommend!"

  • "attentive service but not overbearing. very good food but not outstanding. great place in the neighborhood for lunch or brunch."

  • "I can not say enough about the quality of the food at the Tewksbury Inn. The yellow fin tuna is, without a doubt, the best I, along with my dining companions, have found anywhere. We eat at some very high end restaurants and this ranks at the top of our list of "must return often!""

  • "We decided to try the Pluckemin Inn for dinner with friends on a Friday night, since the location was mutually convenient. The atmosphere was quaint and cozy yet upscale, with an interesting menu, full bar, and good wine list. Overall, our party's reviews of our meals ranged from good to very good, but drink service to our table in the dining room was a bit slow (the bar side of the restaurant was very busy and lively for most of our meal), and the table itself was a bit small and crowded for a party of four; much shuffling of tableware was required with the serving of every drink or course. In our experience, execution didn't quite seem to measure up to reputation and cost."

  • "Enjoyed everything about the evening. Food was outstanding, service was impeccable and the atmosphere was romantic. I ordered the cod which was absolutely cooked to perfection, my company had a the seared scallops, which were just as tasty."

  • "I have taken business associates to the Tewkesbury Inn and been very pleased with all aspects of the meal. This time we took four young granddaughters (7 - 13) to dinner and were very pleased with the attentiveness of the staff, the welcome we received and the attentiveness to the children. I would recommend the the Tewkes for a variety of occasions."

  • "The Tewksbury inn is one of our go-to places for a nice meal out. We've been there 10-12 times, and the food is consistently good. Appetizers and entrees are creative without being overly experimental. The bar makes a nice cocktail and does the classics well. The wine list is fairly priced, with a good range of prices represented; you can get a nice bottle of wine without breaking the bank, but they have some nice choices for special occasions. There's better variety on the list than most places; nice to see more than 3 options for a Zin. It's a fairly small place, and the noise level can get a bit robust when the place is full (the bar more so than the dining room). Weeknights the dining room is fairly quiet; weekends are less so."

  • "Although we had not been back in over a decade, it was still great! Oysters and dirty martini's for appetizers and the menu was better than before"

  • "Really liked the menu choices. Had some old standbys like an excellent Chicken Caesar salad and some creative choices as well. everything was very good including the onion rings!"

  • "Ambiance and food was great. Great for casual business meetings."

  • "We had a great meal in the tavern the other night. He had the tuna which was sushi grade and he said was the best meal he had in a long time. He also had the pork belly appetizer which was outstanding as well. My lamb was delicious but I would have preferred the couscous to be less highly spiced. Service was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable."

  • "We love this place and were just there the week prior and had an EXCELLENT meal, service, etc. However, we had a server (who was very nice) but simply couldn't properly and timely serve our table of four in the bar. Also, my entree was overcooked the first time and the second time it came out it was extremely tough to cut (wild boar). Very disappointed in one of our favorite "go to" places."

  • "The setting is quaint and the atmosphere is pleasant. My husband had the salmon . which he said was excellent. I had pork chops, which were the best pork chops that I have ever eaten. Despite the fact that we were there on Valentine's Day ( one of the busiest days of the year) the service was outstanding. We would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "There's nothing bad about the place but, hey, this is northern NJ so the bar is kinda high. Step it up, Tewksbury Inn! Highs: wine list and ambiance. We liked the feel of the place. Quaint. And the maitre d' was very friendly. Lows: none except the price Averages: service, food quality, selection, and presentation For the money ($200 for two), we are unlikely to go back. Based on our menu selections that night we'd go to the Black Forest Inn without a doubt. Service was impersonal and unhelpful -- if she could get your tip without saying/doing very much, hey, she was OK with that. Young-ish service personnel overall."

  • "We eat here 4-5 times a year and always a high quality experience."

  • "The appetizers were good, but it ended there. The squab was rubbery and the pork chop was tough, dry and uninspired. Definitely not worth the expense."

  • "I come here regularly for lunch because it's close to the barn I ride at and the good is usually pretty good . On occasions we have had a few mishaps but in general it is always good. Love that thru over regular specials which is always a nice change . Will be back."

  • "None of us had been there before, so we took a chance. The atmosphere was quaint, the service was good, but the food was fantastic! Best pork chops I ever had. It was pricey, but we will be back to celebrate those special occasions."

  • "This was our 2nd visit and it was as good as the first. The food is wonderful and interesting. They accommodate requests without a fuss. That atmosphere is charming--right out of a picture postcard. The service was attentive and pleasant and they got all the orders right. Great night out!"

  • "We stopped for lunch on a Sunday. The food was good but the server really only did the minimum. We had to ask for bread and we were told that they normally didn't give bread with lunch despite the fact that we could clearly see bread on the other tables near us. She never checked our drinks. We got the impression that there were many regulars in the restaurant who were receiving the service expected but we were not as important since we were from out of town."

  • "Tewksbury Inn touted their "Tewksbury Fries" on the menu and they turned out to be a soggy flavorless tangle. Also, we were there for my wife's 80th birthday and her sister arranged, not once but twice by phone calls, each time to a manager, to have a $25 gift there for my wife so she'd know they were with us in spirit. It was to be given to her at seating. That never occurred and finally, when the bill was presented, the server said, "There's a $25 deduction as a gift." with no indication that it was from anybody but the Inn. We only found out about it the day after when discussing the restaurant with my wife's sister. Not a good overall impression at all. We had been to the Inn before and enjoyed it. We won't be back."
