Terzo PianoThe elegant and quiet ambienceThe elegant and quiet ambience are qualities which will bring us back. The food is very good. The waiter we had lacked any refinement and seemed out of sync with the restaurant's refined ambience. A jarring note towards the end of our meal was music
through the sound sytem which also was inappropriate to the ambience ie. too loud and unrefined. The couple sitting next to us commented in agreement. When we asked to speak to the manager as we left, he listened to our criticism but gave us the im- pression that he would be unable to change the music which seemed inadequate to us.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch was wonderful. The viewLunch was wonderful. The view is absolutely gorgeous. H6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe fried artichoke bitesThe fried artichoke bites with anchovy aioli aren't to be missed. Save room for the rhubarb raspberry croustade. It was delicious!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday girlThis was my first time at Terzo Piano. I took a girlfriend for her birthday. The maitre d'it was very welcoming and made us feel special. We elected to dine outside on the terrace. The waiter, Mathew, was outstanding and very helpful. We elected to go with the soup of the day and a mixture of lite bites. They all sounded so unusual, needed to try a selection of them. We loved all except one, the sardine fritters. We had a different expectation, it was a little too fishy and salty. Overall our experience was a fabulous one, cannot beat the view!!! Already recommended the restaurant to friends, would love to try the Thursday night dinner. Until next time!!!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDisappointing ChangesThere are some interesting changes that have been intoduced both in the food menu and wine list. But the new items are not as good as the items they have replaced. For example, the new chicken dish lacks the wonderful sauce of the older chicken recipe. Also, a big disappointment was the removal of the wonderful Whispering Angel Provençal rosé wine from the wine list. The new Spanish rosé replacing it definitely lacks its aroma and full body.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMUnusual menu, but wonderfulUnusual menu, but wonderful flavored. I do think it is over-priced for some items, especially the signature salad.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentEverything was wonderful- great views, service and food. Will go back again and again.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!Lunch was wonderful. The wine was superb. Fresh and flavorful describe the food.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSatisfiedWelcoming staff, professional. Brunch menu was varied with excellent food. Belgian waffle was excellent.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMfantastic lunch with out offantastic lunch with out of town guest - she was impressed5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter than expectedBeing housed above the new wing of the Art Institute, I classified the place as "museum food" before trying it, but was pleasantly surprised at the farm-to-table menu. The lunch portions are smaller than other places, except for the lamb burger, which was huge. Salmon entree was fantastic, flaky and moist, atop an asparagus/pineapple medley. We ordered cheese sampler as appetizer, delectable selection, but tiny portions to share among 5. We shared the sweet potato tarte w/ bourbon ice cream, also small, but we were all satisfied with the variety of flavors from the different dishes. We paired w/ a bottle of 2007 Mencia Spanish red. On a nice day, the patio overlooks Millenium Park. Floor to ceiling windows on two sides allow lots of light.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMUpgrade!Don't know the reason--new chef?--but Terzo Piano is SO much finer than previous meals dating back to last fall and spring. My tortilla espagnola is the best I've ever had, including in Spain! My companions also loved their meals of salad and pasta. Server was too delayed getting our desserts, so she took them off the bill. We came back to have them after our lecture, then sitting outdoors admiring the beautiful cityscape. I will return often if this wonderful food and service continue.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTerzo PianoFor a group of ladies of a certain age, the restaurant was wonderful. Food is always interesting and well-presented. Some of us had the potato soup as an opener and all tried your craft beers (and were pleased with our choices). I don't recommend it for children unless they are fairly adventurous eaters.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe wait staff was workingThe wait staff was working very hard, both serving and bussing tables. Perhaps they were understaffed on the day we were there.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch at the museumIt is a very convenient option when visiting the art museum. The lamb burger is very good as is the chicken sandwich. Very limited menu options but what they do make they do it well.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat option if you're spendingGreat option if you're spending the day at the Art Institute. Very contemporary space worth seeing. Interesting menu. Great lamb burger and chicken sandwich.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat business lunch spotThe perfect place for a business lunch!
The atmosphere is perfect, professional and quiet. The food was excellent.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWe liked the food, its quantity,We liked the food, its quantity, the way it appeared on the plate, the wine, the overall interior design of the room and the view from the windows.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMCheery restaurant with a flaireWe really enjoyed our dining experience here. The food was excellent as was the service. The only thing I would like to see is an expanded cocktail list. Also, I highly recommend reservations. This is a popular place that gets full and has long wait times.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMuseum Quality! The perfect place for a respite while taking in the treasures at the Art Institute. It's such a relief to have a break from those horrible restaurants in most museums! A beautiful, airy space and lovely view. Paul Kahan's menu isn't vast, but it's very tasty. We had trouble deciding which items to order. Finally decided to share the charcuterie platter and the duck malfaldine. Both were delicious! Next time, I'll have the lamb burger - it looked wonderful. You can't go wrong at this place, especially if you get a table outside on a beautiful day. The view of Millenium Park is worth the price of admission!!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant DinnerOur group enjoyed a lovely pre-ballet meal here. Antipasti platter and flatbread were good starters. Those that ordered the trout were very pleased. Crispy chicken was good too although would have been nice if it could have been prepared healthier without the skin. We had attentive service and made it to the ballet on time!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe view of Chicago whileThe view of Chicago while eating exquisite food and sipping wine is spectacular. The appetizers and the lamb burgers were tasty. The trout salad had a delicate flavor with plenty of greens. We enjoyed every moment under the outdoor filtered light area.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat view - our waiter wasGreat view - our waiter was fantastic, helpful, friendly which saved the hostess and seating staff who were stuffy, snobbish - not what I expected from the Art Institute - typically a fun, welcoming place.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMVery pleasant respite from museumThe food and service were excellent at Terzo Piano. We especially enjoyed the lamb burger which was very flavorful and the French fries top notch. Our server was attentive and informative. The décor is austere and modern. Tables are well spaced and the noise level is only moderate.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMSomewhat expensive, especiallySomewhat expensive, especially for lunch but food was excellent and wait was minimal. Menu is limited. Experience aimed at adults and we enjoyed it. Downside-no ambience and noticed that menu would not be kid friendly. Reservations recommended.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had lunch for three. TheWe had lunch for three. The food was very good, specially loved the lamb burger. Prepared just right. The sweet potato fries with it were also enjoyable. The serving was large enough to share, and the lamb burger came split for two. Very helpful and neat. The grilled beet salad was also enjoyable. The papardelle was a bit too much undercooked and tasted a bit on the dry, chewy side. Great double expresso to close the meal.
Reservations is a must, otherwise the wait is too long. It is easy to make on opentable.com4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting, creative, deliciousInteresting, creative, delicious food in a beautiful setting. I really enjoyed the arugula with smoked trout salad.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautifully prepare food,Beautifully prepare food, attentive service and wonderful views of Grant Park on a sunny (finally!) day made for a pleasurable lunch with friends. The squash ginger soup was a gorgeous golden-orange and delicious. Wished it was a little more generous serving - the amount served looked even more paltry in such a large white bowl. The smoked steel-head trout was nicely smokey and the crispy edges provided an enjoyable crispy textural contrast to the flakey flesh. The kale provided a strong enough taste to balance the goat cheese. The beautifully poached egg on top of the string french fries was a nice touch tho the string french fries were difficult to eat gracefully. My friends lamb burger looked great - juicy and nicely charred4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTerzo Piano has become a restaurantTerzo Piano has become a restaurant staple for our family. The food is consistently inventive, fresh and delicious. The service is always professional, approachable and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Because of these assets we can take or recommend to any out of town guest, or local, that they stop by for lunch (before a trip to the museum) or just a great meal experience.
As a side note... the new napkin color palette is really fun and adds to the already enjoyable atmosphere.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways fantastic changingAlways fantastic changing menu using fresh local and organic food/ wine. We were late but were seated following a brief wait. The ambiance was bright, energetic and vibrant. Each of the entrees we tried was fabulous. Portion sizes were great. Excellent for a nice treat/special occassion. Will be especially interested in trying the Thursday dinner special in the future.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorites! TooOne of my favorites! It's really first rate.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMy group consisted of threeMy group consisted of three college friends who had not seen each other for several years. The consistence of the food and service is appreciated.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, excellentExcellent food, excellent service. Chef Tony Mantuano has a gem here, make sure you get a reservation. You can enter off the street, you don't have to go to the Art Institute but we did and found it was a lovely respite from the crowds.
Highly recommend.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is always great and serviceFood is always great and service is very accomodating. It is a very relaxing place for lunch. Love it!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA few of my friends shareA few of my friends share my view that the menu offers too many overly precious preparations. How about a nice Cobb salad, a hamburger, a toasted cheese sandwich in addition to the arugula/smoked steelhead trout salad?
Also the staff checking in diners seemed to regard me as an annoyance rather than a welcome guest.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGood alt to lunch on Mich AvePleasant white and airy open design on top floor of Art Institute's Modern Wing. Suitable for meeting friends for brunch/lunch. Friendly and helpful staff, upscale food choices, open to modifications. Med rare Lamb burger needs more searing, too uncooked and a distraction from its otherwise lovely savoriness. Butternut squash cubed a nice substitute for fries. For soda drinkers, try their custom made flavors. Make reservations to avoid a likely wait.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Excellent service.Great food. Excellent service. Lovely place, nice view, small but good wine list, fun.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMI was very happy to get toI was very happy to get to sit by the window with my friend - we came from the Quad-Cities and it was a special occasion for us. We rode Amtrak in from Princeton. We had the soup that was beautifully garnished, the chicken entree and one of the "mountain salads" that were beautiful. The artisan bread with olive oil was also very good.
It was peace of mind for me to be able to make a reservation online ahead of time and know where we would eat since we had limited time between eating/seeing exhibits.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA friend and I had an excellentA friend and I had an excellent lunch before a Chicago Symphony concert. The food was very good, and our waitress (can't bring myself to write 'waitperson') was congenial and efficient. The room is large, has a high ceiling, and yet was not noisy. I would definitely return; perhaps this summer I will meet friends for lunch in the patio.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful overall once again!Wonderful overall once again!
