Diner Reviews
  • "Went here for dinner at 10:30 on a Friday, given a lovely booth. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Pizza was exceptional. Ordered the margarita. Wine was good, but just a little light on the pour ($14 san giovese). Noise level is loud... Biggest qualm was that we had food to-go (a full order of one dish), and when arrived home, turned out one of the "to go" items was someone else's left-over pizza. That was disappointing!"

  • "Just picked this restaurant because it was close to our venue. Was not disappointed. We were attended to promptly and with courtesy. The food was very good and we felt it was priced very well. This is a place I would definitely go to again. My only question criticism would be that the martini glasses were pretty small compared to other places. Coffee was really good."

  • "My friend on Sat night ordered the Gnocchi that had mushrooms and 1 scallop. The dish was extremely bland and asked the server for cheese to make the dish tasty. We were told they are forbidden to put cheese on any seafood dish. The fact that it had one scallop didn't qualify as a seafood plate in my opinion. I had Bolognese pasta which was tasty. I asked the server to bring me some cheese for my dish. I was informed that he would grate it on my plate then he would take the grater back.I called to complain to the manager and was told its a common complaint that they will not put grated cheese on Pizza or any seafood dish. They did offer to replace the dish with something else. It really ruined the evening for us"

  • "Great food. Nice historical venue. Prices are high but quality was good."

  • "On a quiet downtown LA evening, had another fine authentic Italian experience dining at one of the most architecturally impressive restaurants anywhere."

  • "Delicious home-made pastas, fine gourmet pizzas, a beautiful space, and meticulous service."

  • "What a treat to find this cool spot downtown! The decor & vibe is very well done. The staff was all-pro. They were friendly & knowledgeable and not "too hip" to help. The wine list (all Italian) was extensive and the suggestion Michael gave us was absolutely dead-on, perfect for our dinner and a great value. Overall, the food was really beautifully presented and tasted delicious. (Sadly, the pizza crust was a bit stale and tough.) We especially loved the octopus and pork. As Arnold says, "We'll be back!""

  • "Food and service were great but just a bit noisy . Energetic place."

  • "Food was good, drinks were small and ok, service was v slow and absent for the most part"

  • "The rate of openings for new restaurants in downtown Los Angeles has increased to the point that there have been several restaurants on my list that I haven't yet tried. I had driven past Terroni and noted it's unique setting, but had yet to add it to my must-try queue. However, a suggestion from my daughter to dine there while she was visiting with us, took us to this place. What a wonderful surprise! The setting was beautiful and festive, yet relaxing. We received wonderful service and recommendations from the sommelier. And the food did not disappoint. There was a good blend of items on the menu to appeal to the foodie, the traditionalist, and the Italian food purist."

  • "It's loud, it's huge, it's modern, and it's classic. Classic italian done perfectly with the feel of a modern american restaurant. Art Deco meets post modern architecture and design. Oh, and get the biscotti with coffee and grappa to finish off the meal!"

  • "The atmosphere is terrific and the food does not disappoint. Everyone was very happy with their salads, pizza, appetizer and entree. It's great for before the theatre and conveniently located at 8th and Spring. Valet parking is available, but at $8, isn't really a bargain!"

  • "This restaurant has outstanding food. Well prepared, and very tasty. Dishes are unique and very, very good. Noise level is way overboard. Not that the other diners are loud, it is the music. Very heavy, overbearing bass and "dance" beat. It's too bad, we have been here before, and my GF did not really want to go back due to the music. But, we tried again, and I beleive it is the same soundtrack, at the same ear splitting level. If you want to give this place a try, go in the afternoon for lunch. I beleive maybe it is a different Manager then. OR, bring your earplugs and cell phones and text each other during the meal."

  • "The food was absolutely delicious. The pastas were definitely the best, but no complaints about the pizza and appetizers. However, the service was mediocre. The staff was nice enough, but not very helpful or knowledgable considering the calibre of the restaurant."

  • "Loud, very loud. Cramped seating, tables squeezed in. Felt like guests were right on top of each other. Host was very friendly and welcoming but server was very slow, inattentive and not in the least bit personable. Even though the restaurant wasn't even ¼ full (it was only 5:30) it seemed like she was VERY busy but never anywhere around our table. And then the food was just OK, actually a bit bland. There are too many really good Italian restaurants in LA. Wouldn't waste my time going back here."

  • "This is the downtown LA outpost of a restaurant group that originated in Toronto, Canada. The bar really hops and this is clearly a neighborhood hang out for the new LA downtown crowd. I have been here several times now, and I am always somehow vaguely disappointed. The food is good, but not great, and the vibe likewise. There is just something undefinable missing from the whole experience - it just feels flat. I find the food heavywhich would make it perfect on a cold Toronto night, but is not so great on a hot L.A. evening."

  • "Everything was fine, but the music was too loud to talk over. Not as bad as some restaurants, but still too loud"

  • "Thewine list is extensive and the sommelier's are on point to recommend the best wine for your dinner choices. Food was definitely above average (spaghetti al limone is delicious) but probably a little too expensive for what is brought out... Recipe's could use a little more flavor on some of the dishes. Ambiance, decor and wait staff are all excellent!"

  • "Situated in a beautiful old bank building, the ambiance is fully equaled by the cuisine. Appetizers were all a big hit...each different and each delectable. Wanted to just stop there but glad we didn't. The pasta dishes were perfectly executed. Service was great. Because I don't know Italian wines, I described what I was looking for and the waiter brought me 2 tastes that were perfect choices. Will definitely return."

  • "This is my new favorite restaurant in downtown! Authentic Italian cuisine with a great wine selection and don't get me started on the tiramisu! I love the lighting and ambiance of this place! If you are a large party, you're in for a treat with the semi-private room. You take a peak at the wine room upstairs. Going back again soon!"

  • "ordered a bottle of white wine. and it came warm. when talking to the sommelier, his reply was that the bottle was appropriately chilled. been drinking white wine at restaurants of similar caliber, and the bottle WAS NO WHERE NEAR APPROPRIATELY CHILLED. Sommelier needs attitude adjustment. Appetizer was great. The secondi - pasta plates were served cold. and one other plate was so salty - so not edible. sent back the majority of the inedible plates and walked out of the restaurants still hungry."

  • "How can you not like the place! The vibe inside of this former bank building is spectacular. Friendly staff throughout the evening. Food service is timely. And the food was well prepared and delicious. Definitely be back for more!"

  • "This is the third time we have gone to this restaurant and it is becoming a favorite of ours. The menu and specials change regularly so there is always something new to try. Can't wait to go again."

  • "My wife and I took both sets of parents to dinner. We had a lovely evening, everything was good. It was a little noisy for 80 year olds, but I know that is not your target demographic. The cost was reasonable too, for 6 of us, with appetizer, drinks, main course, and a shared dessert plus tip - came right out to $300. Not bad at all."

  • "Finally got around to trying Terroni, friendly staff, very helpful server (guided both gf and I to some excellent cocktail and food choices), the spaghetti al limone was amazingly delicious for having so few ingredients and the seafood pasta had perfectly cooked shrimp, scallops, calmari, and mussels. Good variety of traditional Italian dishes on the menu, looking forward to trying other dishes but gf liked the spaghetti al limone so much she'll probably stick with that! I thought the prices were perfectly reasonable as well. Saw lots of plates and pizzas going past our table that looked amazing. Beautiful old Beaux Arts building in the little triangle created where Spring splits off of Main. Will definitely be back, might become regulars!"

  • "The building is as wonderful as the food that is served in this downtown spot."

  • "My wife and I had a very enjoyable brunch here a couple of months ago, so we decided to take two out-of-town friends there for dinner. The food and service were both good, but nothing special, and the noise level (on a previous visit the restaurant had been almost empty) made coversation difficult. I think this is definitely a place for the younger crowd whose hearing has already been impaired by listening to pop music on MP3 players. I assume they must now communicate largely by sign language anyway."

  • "However, service could've been better. Initially we felt very rushed. Once the server realized we were not in any rush (we hadn't seen each other in quite a while) we were pretty much ignored. In the server's defense, she was nice during the second half of the meal."

  • "We came for an early Saturday lunch, the restaurant was quiet and the food so good. I've heard the volume is close to 90 db during peak hours, but, for us it was a great experience with the food, the architecture and enjoying our conversation. Loved the second floor women's restroom."

  • "Terroni is our go-to Italian spot in DTLA. It helps that we live close by but we end up here for cocktails or dinner almost every week. A little noisy in the big room sometimes but we appreciate that many others are finding this gem. Terroni is where we bring our friends when they venture downtown from their suburban lives. Go, eat, enjoy!"

  • "Cool atmosphere. A tad highfalutin', but the staff is quite friendly. Amazing pasta and fantastic bur rata appetizer."

  • "It's a pizza. It may be a gourmet pizza. But its still bread with cheese and stuff on it. And telling your customer that you cannot omit ham (but that you can omit mushrooms, for some reason) for a diner who is a vegetarian because "We have been doing it this way for 20 years in Toronto and only allow limited substitutions" would be laughable if it weren't offensive, is not an excuse for poor service. Ridiculous. Toronto. Pizza. Really?"

  • "This was our first time visiting the downtown location. The building/restaurant is gorgeous. The food was great but our service was horrible. It wasn't insanely busy, our server was just not on point and seemed disinterested. Hence the review title, he was too cool for school. It was disappointing as we were celebrating my dad's birthday. I might give it another chance, just because I like the food, but we shall see."

  • "It's just that it was ok. The food was ok. It came out luke warm. Might have been better if it wasn't at room temperature. Was expecting a little more. Not some place I would be I need to go back too."

  • "I have actually been here twice. The first time, a friend made reservation & they frequent the Hollywood location. We liked it so much we made lunch reservations w/ our kids so we could buy gift certificates for Christmas presents. The service for dinner the first time was really good and food was amazing! The second time the servers were all super nice, but a little slow. They were short staffed, maybe because it was finals at USC? Food was still great! Our friends warned us they have some quirky rules, like they don't cut the pizza, you have to do it… but I didn't really mind. I think the quality of the food, makes the slower service bearable, just don't go if you are in a rush. I HIGHLY recommend the restaurant for the food!"

  • "Great casual atmosphere for this new downtown LA hotspot. Everything we ordered was delicious. Pasta was perfectly Al dente, carpaccio was nice and thin but sliced wide with tasty grilled veggies and burrata to accompany. No room for desert but the drinks and wine sufficed and were also very tasty. Is definitely come back and felt like the prices were reasonable and appropriate for the quality and amount of food served."

  • "most of the food here is a perfectly good, though not mind-blowing. the service, however, leaves a LOT to be desired. we were here on a quiet evening yet we were left alone for 20 mins. before we got a menu; the wine we ordered as soon as the server came over to us arrived after we finished our apps. (for which our server unprofessionally threw the bartender under the bus rather than simply fixing it); and we were left alone for ages before we could get the check. this is a beautiful room and the food is well executed, though not particularly interesting; with superior italian options downtown (bestia, maccheroni, factory kitchen) where you feel like a valued guest, terroni may not last for long without attitude adjustment."
