A pleasant surprise to find a restaurant of this caliber in Longmont! Service was impeccable. Timing between courses was not hurried, which enhanced the dining experience. Noise level detracted slightly. Would not recommend for a romantic evening, but I'll definitely be going back!

My work friends and I travel to Longmont for business periodically, and we often try to arrange a visit to Terroir. The food selection is just right...there are multiple "somethings" for everyone on the menu, and the fact that they offer 1/2 glasses of wine (with no markup!) is FABULOUS...lets you sample the many interesting and good selections.

We stayed in Boulder, ate in Longmont, and so glad we did. Terroir is a little place at 246 Main Street and the menu is limited a bit. Every item sounds tempting, and I would have been happy with 18 of 20 options. My husband and I shared all our choices, so that made it more varied and quite wonderful. Gnocchi with sundried tomatoes and goat cheese, trio of beets salad, (and I don't even love beets as does my husband but they were great), house-made pappardelle Bolognese, a large plate of pan-seared scallops cooked perfectly, and something I cannot remember. The dessert we chose, a berry-peach crisp was decadent and yet healthy at the same time. Service was lovely, wine suggestions moderately priced and recommended well. Just go here!

We all had an excellent dinner. Three of us opted for the tasting dinner, one could not due to allergies. Food and service were wonderful. However, there was a larger party forward the back of the restaurant that was extremely noisy and, quite frankly, pretty inconsiderate of other diners. That was the only disappointing aspect of the evening.

OH WHAT A HIDDEN GEM!!! GO THERE NOW! This is an outstanding restaurant that just lost it's lease as reported by Times-Call on 2August. With a Zagat rating of 25 and a 4.4 Star Rating - go now to experience Tim Payne's terrific flavors and Melissa Newell's wine matching that has been recognized by other chefs in boulder. I cannot underscore how important it would be to visit this restaurant before they shut their doors on Aug 25th. I am headed there tonite because it is the right thing to do for Tim Payne and Melissa Newell. Terroir was the best thing to happen to the block that it is located in. To find that the landlord could not negotiate favorable terms is resulting in a huge loss for such a talented chef and the city of Long

Softly lit, gentle music, wonderful food & wine, attentive but not intrusive staff: I love this place. Our hosts are always welcoming & serve up consistently mouthwatering seasonal delights. I had the chef's 4 course menu that gave me a satisfying combination of complimenting plates. A deliciously light summer vegetable soup followed by a tangy citrus arugala salad then delicately pan fried scallops on a beet puree. Molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream punctuated the meal leaving me comfortably satiated. I mustn't neglect to mention that the wine pairings are truly pairings & only add to the overall enjoyment. Enjoy this diamond in the rough.

Growing up on home-made gluten (seitan) makes it impossible to find anything that compares, until you sit at Terroir's table. It should be a regular on their menu. There would be so many vegetarians flocking here if they knew it was on the menu and could taste how gluten was meant to taste. It is the best alternative to the stereo-typical "vegetarian option". Additionally, the pot de crème au caramel salé was beyond belief. I can't recall such perfection. I was dining with my french friend who turns out some incredible délices and even she was wowed. It is always a great dining experience at Terroir.

I took my wife and daughter to Terroir for Mothers Day lunch. Our reservation was for 2:00 pm and we arrived on time and were seated immediately at a table in the front window that provided a great overview of the interior of the restaurant as well as Main St. Despite the restaurant being full our waitress attended us promptly and took our drink orders. The menu had an eclectic selection of appetizers, salads, breakfast dishes, and main course meals. We had difficulty deciding what to order because so many items sounded great. We opted for the blueberry sour cream bread and the smoked salmon appetizers and both were excellent. Main dish selections included hanger steak, vegetable panna cotta, and a salmon/vegetable frittata - superb!

We especially appreciate the small plates and ordered several to share. The entrees are usually quite good and we appreciate the farm to table approach to food service. The wine list is pretty good unless you expect more California wines, which are lacking. Because of this, you seem to be taking a chance when ordering unfamiliar wines and sometimes the wait staff are not familiar with the wine.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

Had a bit higher of expectations for our outing at Terroir. We had made reservations a week in advance, but when we arrived we were told we would be seated soon and we ended up waiting 20 minutes to be seated. There was no seating area to wait and we felt uncomfortable and in the way of the coat rack in the entrance. We had an 8:30pm seating and when ordering we encountered 4 instances where items we wanted to order were no longer available-a Spicy Argula salad, the Crab Cake appetizer, the soup special, and the desserts-very disappointing. Also, our waitress was not very attentive and took some time to return to our table after drinks were delivered to take our dinner order.

Food was pretty good. I had the chef's tasting menu: 1st course was a salad; 2nd course was slightly boring with the pasta choice...spaghetti; and the 3rd (main) course only had 1 scallop....really?!?! The wine pairings with the tasting menu were slightly off. Fortunately, the dessert was outstanding to finish off an OK meal. This was my first time but I'd give it another shot. (it seems like they are trying to be too much like Frasca in Boulder)

Overall Terroir was great. The service was excellent and the desserts were delicious (we tried all four). The beer selection was commendable and the wine selection looked good, though I'm not a connoisseur. We were underwhelmed by our entrees, especially the tagliatelle. I liked the restaurant's concept. Supporting restaurants that serve local food is important to us.

  • Chef Tasting Menu and Wine Pairings
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 5/4/2012
The Chef's Tasting Menu with wine pairings is wonderful! Each course (and there are 4!) is an adequate portion with a full pour of wine - something I see lacking on other similar menus. The wine ranged from around the globe, including some from California (one of which supports local food charities in areas it is sold!) all the way to Austria, a wine harder to find in Colorado - we were able to enjoy the Hopler Beerenauslese (sweet Austrian White) with our delicious Strawberry Crisp Dinner. Many ingredients are locally sourced making the dinner not only delicious, but an ecologically sustainable choice when dining out.

We chose the chef's special tasting menu of four courses, each paired with the appropriate wine. Each offering--the food and the wine--were exceptional. We started with a cannellini bean bisque with layerd flavors of spice, heat, and olive oil, paired with a crisp white wine. The rare hanger steak with a cherry sauce paired with blue cheese mashed potatoes and broccolini was accompanied with an excellent valpicella, and we thought that this main course was superb. The meal ended with the creamiest, richest creme brulle (served with a delectable port) was better than any we've eaten in 7 trips to Paris. At $55 per person, this chef's tasting menu was an incredible bargain.

Food was excellent, service a little slow plus our departure after dinner was ignored (no "come again"). The liquor choices (eg gin)were unusual and unknown to us. The wine list was also unusual (eg no real pinot grigio) and a bit limited though we did find something we liked. Okay if you're into trying new beverages - not so much, if you aren't. The food was the high point - all four of us enjoyed our meals - scallops, rib eye, halibut and the nightly tasting menu.

We chose scallops (when my friend asked if she could have a sauce other than the one on the menu, we were assured a substitution could easily be made), the most delicious salmon I've ever tasted, a unique spinach salad that was ample for 2 and an incredibly rich butterscotch pudding (Betty Crocker, eat your heart out)!
