  • "Had the best evening here. Patrick added to such a great experience as well."

  • "This was my second time eating at Terrapin and it lived up to the very high expectations formed by the first visit. In fact, it surpassed them - due largely to the exceptional service. The food was, as anticipated, excellent."

  • "stick to the main dining room for excellent food and service. for some reason the outdoor menu is simply bad food badly prepared at outrageous prices"

  • "I couldn't afford to eat here on a normal basis, however, it is definitely a fantastic place to dine. Our waiter was wonderful in every way. The food was wonderful and large portions. I like the way the restaurant is set up.....upper level is great.....no crowding. I just can't say enough about dining there."

  • "The decor was great, being in an late 1800's Baptize church! The wait staff was all friendly and not pushy...we don't drink coffee, tea nor alchol and they didn't make us feel out of place! The Squash soup & BBQ Duck appetizers were awesome! The best Hanger steak we've ever had. I also highly recommend the lamb shank & pork chop which practically melted in your mouth! The food arrived hot, timely and wait staff was attentive. Even our spoons came warm with our dessert! The chef was trained at a French culinary school in NYC. Everything was outstanding including just a low noise level for the place being mostly full. Overall, a great dinning experience!"

  • "So sad we don't live here's we would eat here regularly. Loved the duck Quesadilla and the borscht special. The famous pork chop had ever right to be notable. It was freezing for us Florida guys but would love to come back and sit outside. We will be back. We stayed at the amazing Hideaway Suites and was worried we would be too far from the restaurant but it was only 10 minutes..thank goodness"

  • "I planned a surprise (romantic) dinner at Terrapin for my boyfriend. It could not have gone better. Big thanks to the wait staff and of course, the delicious meals and atmosphere. I'll be singing Terrapin's praises for a while."

  • "The place is lovely, you can hear yourself think. The waitstaff is funny and attentive, and the food is always perfectly prepared. No negatives here."

  • "I have never taken the time out to write a review, and never thought that I would, that's how good Terrapin is. Every course hit the spot. Food is fresh and flavorful without feeling "heavy" and choices are not ordinary. Service was friendly and our waitress was very helpful making some excellent suggestions."

  • "We used Restaurant Week in the Hudson Valley to try Terrapin and were happy we did. The menu was generous with many of their regular items on the Restaurant Week menu. The borscht was very meaty and excellent. My wife was especially happy with the tender pork chops which, according to other patrons, is a favorite here. We knew the server from another restaurant in town and the fact that he came to Terrapin speaks well for this restaurant. Ambiance is a significant step down from the food and service - inside is a large space with very little in the way of decor. Chairs are plain but fairly comfortable. Overall a very good experience and we will return."

  • "Its been a long time since we ventured up to Rhinebeck for dinner & I'm glad we picked the Terrapin. It so happened it was out wedding anniversary; 30+ years. The atmosphere was relaxed & comfortable. I only wish it was a bit warmer in the dining room. We dined early that evening & it felt a little chilly. The food was very good. We choose entrees off the "restaurant week" menu. I had the salmon & my husband had the bangar steak. My salmon was excellent; the sauce & vegetables were a perfect compliment to the entrée. My husband liked his steak & the garlic sauce. He ordered his steak well done & except for a very small piece of a pink slice, it was to his liking. He enjoyed the steak fries & cooked spinach as well."

  • "We visited this because of Hudson Valley Restaurant week.. We have gone to several places over the course of the year because of the Restaurant week.. This was be far the best experience. The had an excellent selection for this occasion, and there was more than enough to eat.. in fact.. to much to eat. The quality of the food was excellent, I would hight recommend this, not just for Restaurant week.. but any time.. We certainly will be back."

  • "Probably the best pork chop I have had in years, and one of the most memorable desserts as well. The staff was fantastic and very informed about the dishes. Getting the Restaurant week rate was the icing on the cake!"

  • "Pleasantly surprised with the outstanding quality of food and service. The level of service, tempo, food quality, portion size, and menu all combine for a first rate experience. The restaurant interior is comfortable and the ambience is top notch. I would recommend this restaurant to those who appreciate fine food and service. Great job!"

  • "We have been there nuumerous times and there is always a high level of excellence! This time we went for restaurant week. The selections were great - delicious dumplings and fig, Brie and arugula quesadillas as appetizers, salmon for mains- flaky, moist - in a miso butter sauce on a bed of yummy vegetables. No room for dessert! The drinks are also outstanding with a great wine list and inventive cocktails. The room is lovely and the service friendly, attentive and helpful. Can't wait to return!"

  • "I'd been to Terrapin Bistro often and always enjoyed it; Restaurant Week and visiting friends from California provided the opportunity to dine at the restaurant. And I am SO GLAD! The service, the ambience, and...critically...the food was totally wonderful. We were very, very happy people!"

  • "My wife and i invited another couple to dinner at the Terrapin, and we all had a wonderful dining experience. The staff was friendly, knowledgable, and attentive. Our waiter had helpful suggestions. The food was fresh, well prepared and tasty beginning with the tuna appetizer and ending with the baked berry desert. For entrees we particularly enjoyed the venison and the tender braised ribs. Our evening at the Terrapin was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had."

  • "We dined at Terrapin prior to attending a show at the RPAC and were thrilled with the selection on the menu (the package we purchased, conceived by the owner, was a prix fixe menu with a ticket to the show - a FANTASTIC idea). We enjoyed the mussels and the brie/fig quesidilla as appetizer and then the hangar steak and the lamb shank for entrees - both were cooked perfectly and exactly what we were craving in mid winter. Dessert was Ronnybrook Ice Cream, always a favorite and the hot chocolate lava cake - served at the perfect temperature for digging in immediately. Our server was super, very friendly and had a great attitude. And he offered exceptional recommendations for all parts of the meal (and got us out in time for the show)!"

  • "We were SO excited to go to Terrapin based on the website, pictures, and a friend's recommendation... and were disappointed. It felt like it should be much better than it was. Perhaps it would be better for dinner? The food was inspired on paper but didn't come together well. The ambience seemed super cool, being in an old church, but it felt like it needed a fresh coat of paint, updated tables and chairs, and more thoughtful decor. I don't know if our expectations were too high since we're used to NYC, but Terrapin is in a small town in upstate NY? But it felt like it could be a lot better with a little more thought."

  • "We were there in late Feb, 2014. I titled the review cold for a few reasons. First, there was a definite draft and we asked them to raise the heat....a few times. Also, the local inn where we were staying arranged to prepay $25 on the bill. When the check arrived, the deduction was not made. I understand that it was Sat and busy but getting it right is the sign of a restaurant that is paying attention and not giving details the cold shoulder [clever, huh?]. Anyway, the food was very good altho my wife ordered scallops and there were only 3, for $30, a little high. My lobster risotto was good, lots of real lobster. Drinks before dinner were good also. I will give this place another try and do recommend it."

  • "Really wasn't thrilled. It was so pretty outside but the food and service were a bit of a disappointment. I would give it one more try when I am out that way again."

  • "My husband and I needed to cancel our plans to NYC given the recent snow storms. Still wanting to have a romantic dinner out, opted to visit Terrapin. From the moment we entered the restaurant staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The prix fixed menu for the evening had a wonderful selection of tapas, entrees and desserts, for a fairly reasonable price. Overall great dining experience that certainly made up for our cancelled plans!"

  • "We've come here off and on for a little over a year, and the place really is getting better all the time. This evening we were asked to wait a bit ... because a better table than the one reserved for us was soon coming available! Service was generally prompt, friendly, but not obtrusive. The menu offers a lot of variety and some of the combinations and presentations are quite unexpected but surprisingly delicious. The Morgon (Beaujolais) was fantastic! We'll keep our preferences to ourselves lest othersorder them all out before we arrive next time! And, we will be back!"

  • "Food almost inedible due to high salt content. Steak overcooked. Had to send drinks back for adjustment. Waiter was terffiic, desserts were great, restaurant is beautiful but this is not why opne spends $200 for dinner...."

  • "Was staying in Hyde Park at a B&B for the weekend and took my girlfriend here for a nice dinner. The food was fantastic! Locally sourced, seasonal, and very flavorful. They had a lot of options for vegetarians and meat eaters a like. The building was also really great, it was an old church/meeting hall with giant windows. Overall great ambiance and food, perfect for a special night out."

  • "Terrapin never disappoints, I have never received a poor or even mediocre meal. The food is fresh and beautifully presented, service is just right and the atmosphere in the main dining room is always on the moderate to quiet noise level. You are never rushed and you will never leave dissatisfied !"

  • "They were out of several items (veal and a fish, but we are Vegetarian anyway). Out of 2% milk for our daughter. Great that many dishes can be made vegan or vegetarian. Farmers market pasta was tasty and HUGE. Pumpkin raviolis were not too sweet. I tasted a fried artichoke - seemed bland.y daughters broccoli side was perfectly cooked and fries very good. Salads huge also. Reasonable prices. Decent wine list."

  • "John, as always was very friendly, courteous, and appreciable that we had dinner at the restaurant. Our waiter although was of a different caliber. While he was attentive to our every need his manner of expressing himself was not in keeping with a fine restaurant as the Terrapin. He used a lot of slang and colloquialisms which I found more of which would come from someone working in a diner. I just don't recall what he said but he definitely needs to take it up several notches and address his patrons with a higher level of expressing himself. He was in no way rude or disrespectful but spoke more on the level of a clean up employee and I don't mean to degrade that skill. The Terrapin is a great dining experience. Thanks John."

  • "Tapas apps were brilliant. The two inch pork chops are how all pork chops should be done The steak outstanding with beurre bleu. Beautiful church setting. Very helpful staff. All good. Only one dish was a miss, the curry lobster/scallops. Further they handled our jet lagged kids with good measure of finesse."

  • "Planning a quiet Christmas Eve with just the three of us, we decided to go out to dinner, and chose Terrapin, a favorite of ours. The meal was excellent, as always, and our server, David, was his usual charming, helpful self. It was a very pleasant way to spend a holiday evening, I would definitely recommend it."

  • "We went as family of 4 (parents and tweenagers). The menu was quite diverse so there were multiple choices for the vegetarians and meat eaters among us. The waiter was quite nice. There were decorations up for the holidays that made the mood quite festive. This dinner was part of a birthday celebration. I mentioned it in the reservation email and the kitchen remembered when the desert was served. Looking forward to our next visit!"
