The food was excellent from the appetizer to the main course (double pork chop) to the dessert. We don't drink alcohol so can't comment on that. Only disappointment was the service. Our waiter was not as attentive (often walked by table ignoring us) as we've experienced on previous occasions. Still recommend this restaurant for dinner!

My family (of 4) enjoyed an early dinner on a cold Fall night. The food on the menu definitely hit the spot. I ordered the Pumpkin ravioli entree, and shared delicious appetizers of empanadas and duck. I look forward to returning to this restaurant next time we are in Rhinebeck.

We took advantage of the special menu. Many choices of apps and entrees. The fig, Brie, arugula quesadilla was terrific and the maple nut pork chop had to be 4 inches high and filled the plate. No dessert was offered with the deal, first time that happened. Overall: excellent

We were staying in the Catskill's and wanted a really great dinner. Saw this place on Urban Spoon and decided to check it out. The food was really great, huge portions and interesting preparations. The wine list was really nice. The only small issue was the service. It was a little scattered. A hostess took our drink order and told us about the specials. Our server showed up later to take our food order. It's just odd...when I want to spend $30-50 per person on food alone, I want a personalized experience...complete with recommendations and insight from the server. That said, we had a lovely night and everything we ordered was delightful!

We came expecting top quality in all categories. In choosing a place to go the Online Menu for HVRW featured a Lamb dish. That clinched my decision to go there and made a reservation for Tuesday at 7:30. We arrived on time and were seated neat a window, and were told by our waiter that they were out of Lamb - - I indicated my disappointment but was offered no alternative except the other menu items that did not thrill me enough for a special trip. . Wine by the glass was good, though a bit pricy. We ordered duck and vegetable quesadilla appetizers - they came reasonably promptly, were large, very good and hot. In order to insure that we had enough room for the main course, we asked wait staff to put aside about 1/2 of each appetizer for take home and they courteously complied. I had ordered the pork chop as my second choice. It came at the same time as my companion's meal - it looked large and was done nicely - but after the first bite I discovered that both of the hot sides were at or below room temperature. After acquiring a waiter, they carted off my plate to re-heat (microwave) the cold vegetables along with the chop. My companion started on her meal alone. That didn't help my level of satisfaction. The meal returned hot and the chop was large, done medium -medium well - and the rest of the main course was finished without incident. Then came time to order desert, and we both ordered a desert with ice cream. My companion ordered decaf - I passed. The decaf came promptly and was hot ,,,,, but we waited many minutes for the ice cream and desert to arrive so by that time the coffee was cold. The check finally came, in good order, but as we were about to leave we (not the restaurant) remembered our unfinished appetizers, upon calling again for wait staff it was given to us to take home. The restaurant was not crowded nor particularly busy, that night they just could not get their act together.

We've followed the chef/owner through his last couple of restaurants -- loved them all, and they just keep getting better. Unfortunately, other people know about Terrapin, as well, so plan to make a reservation -- and don't expect a quiet romantic dinner in an empty dining room (you'll be surrounded by lots of happy diners).

I used to enjoy Terapin at its original location. I had never been to the location in Rhinebeck. The atmosphere was not nearly as charming as the old Terapin. The food was good but pricier. The portions were too large. I ordered there specialty piorkchop that looked like half of a pork roast taking up half the plate! The grilled duck quesedilla with mango avacado chutney appetizer was superb! It was a meal in itself. My partner had a deliscious gnocchi with seared duck livers. The wine list was diverse with many reasonable wines to choose. We both ordered a yummy fresh blueberry cake with blueberry drizzle for desert. Overall it was good but I think I would order two appetizers next time...more interesting than the mains.

Seating at 8pm, and there were no specials left to offer us. Service was slow and Tapas were laughable in size, taste, and price! Many people around us were complaining of things too. I think this restaurant is too big for it's britches...maybe less tables and more personal service would be a better fit, like Calico. Pumpkin ravolis were the highlight of my meal.

Wonderful food, great service. Great tapas, especially the crispy artichokes and goat cheese wontons. For the appetizer we shared the Thai pork belly/octopus, don't know where Chef Josh gets his ideas, but this "surf and turf" really worked. Our party got a variety of entrees, short ribs, stripped bass special, filet, all well prepared and delicious. The table also shared a gnocchi with butter and shaved black truffles; tender with just the right amount of truffles. Can't wait to go back on our next trip to the Hudson Valley in April.

While i waited 1/2 hour after our reservation time to be seated, the friendly manager made my initial unease disappear. Our waiter was helpful with selecting a beverage to complement the meal, but he was hands off for most of the night. My meal was delicious and the portion was right on the mark. I will recommend Terrapin to friends and look forward to future visits.

This was a special occasion meal, and from the moment we entered until we left, it was special. The restaurant was celebrating its restaurant week with a wonderful prix fixe menu, of which we took advantage, with a few additions, and it worked out beautifully. I ordered the pork chop, which has won awards, and was not disappointed!

My husband and I spent the day in Rhinebeck for the first time. We live in Westchester and I have heard great things about the shopping and restaurants in town. We thought the town lived up to all the great reviews we have heard about it. The town is so quaint and the shops were all different and fun to go in and out of. We thought Terrapin was a really good restaurant, the food was fresh and delicious and our waiter was very helpful and friendly. The restaurant is in an old church which made it such a interesting place to eat. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and we would go back again

I was really looking forward to dinner at Terrapin based on the reviews I read. However, we were not wowed by the service or food. The pork chop was very large and thick. My dinner partner was not asked how she wanted the meat cooked and it came out well done. While it had flavor it was somewhat dry and seemed overcooked. The center had no pink at all. I have not previously seem a pork chop served that well done unless requested. The list of recommended wines was very short but we were pleased with our wine selection. Must say, we would not return.

Loved the ambiance, food was well prepare and tasty. When my husband ordered the pork chop the waiter told us that it took a while to prepare and recommended we share a salad. Great idea. The server also made a fine wine suggestion. I enjoyed perfectly cooked tuna, the pork chop was the best my husband has had. The only negative was the portion size. The chop was huge and included generous vegetable sides. No room for dessert!

Atmosphere very relaxing and welcoming. The service was excellent as our waitress was friendly and helpful when we ordered and aware when we needed assistance during the meal. Our food was delicious and prepared with ingredients coming directly from local farms. The short ribs were fall-off the bone tender accompanied by spinach and mashed potatoes. The salmon was cooked perfectly to my order with a lovely pesto sauce. Having eaten arugula and wonton salad, superb, we were too full for dessert. We recommend this restaurant and would go back in a heartbeat. Definitely city quality dining at upstate prices, fantastic!
