Top notch in every category. I had the salad with the candied walnuts and bleu cheese and the salmon entree. Waiter was very diplomatic about my credit card being denied (fraud security as I was traveling from NC), he blamed it on the "sailboat decal!). Would highly recommend this staff and chef.

Loved the ambiance, food was well prepare and tasty. When my husband ordered the pork chop the waiter told us that it took a while to prepare and recommended we share a salad. Great idea. The server also made a fine wine suggestion. I enjoyed perfectly cooked tuna, the pork chop was the best my husband has had. The only negative was the portion size. The chop was huge and included generous vegetable sides. No room for dessert!

Atmosphere very relaxing and welcoming. The service was excellent as our waitress was friendly and helpful when we ordered and aware when we needed assistance during the meal. Our food was delicious and prepared with ingredients coming directly from local farms. The short ribs were fall-off the bone tender accompanied by spinach and mashed potatoes. The salmon was cooked perfectly to my order with a lovely pesto sauce. Having eaten arugula and wonton salad, superb, we were too full for dessert. We recommend this restaurant and would go back in a heartbeat. Definitely city quality dining at upstate prices, fantastic!

This is our third time going to Terrain while we are visiting our daughter at Marist College. All five if us enjoyed the atmosphere and our dinner. We are always seated promptly at our reservation time. The bread and cheese puffs are amazing thats served before dinner. The filet and and the duck was cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed our pesto gnocchi. When in Rhinebeck make reservations and go eat at T errapin for a wonderful dining experience.

This was our third visit to Terrapin, and it will be our last. Our appetizers, the duck quesadilla and the mission figs with blue cheese were fine. When the main courses arrived it went down hill. My husband and son both ordered the short ribs. My husband's was fine, but my son's were frozen. We let the waitress know and she took the plate back to the kitchen with no apology. When we questioned the waitress she said that she may have grabbed the wrong plate. Did someone order frozen short ribs? A new order of short ribs came and they were okay. After another employee asked how the meal was and we told him, we were given eight dollar credit on the $26 short ribs. This was a very disappointing dinner at a restaurant we once enjoyed.

My husband and I like to make an annual pilgrimage to Rhinebeck each year and for the past 6 years we have made it a point to have dinner at Terrapin. Each year we are not disappointed ... the service is excellent and the food is local farm fresh, and delicious. The wine list is impressive, featuring some of the local winery offerings and the cocktails are yummy! This visit happened to be just a perfect ending to our stay ... our thanks to our server, Michelle, the kitchen and the bartender for a lovely evening.

I graduated from The Culinary Institute of America about 10 years ago so I am well aware of the beauty of the foliage and the wonderful restuarants in the area. Every year around this time, I take a trip up to the Hudson Valley from NYC and Terrapin in Rhinebeck is the perfect place to enjoy a great Hudson Valley dinner after a busy day of apple picking and sightseeing. The Black Sea Bass fish of the day special and the pork chop were my favorites! Also, Terrapin offers wines from local vineyards and we tried a Pinot Noir blend and a Riesling, each by the bottle, from Tousey Vineyards. They were so clean, crisp, and scrumptious that we decided to visit the vineyard.

We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted someplace quiet with good food. This was an awesome choice. I'd come back here every year for our anniversary. I had requested a quiet table and we got a corner table that was perfect. The food was excellent and the waiter we had was incredible. He made suggestions on menu items and sauces that were delish. Highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion.

They ignored our reservation and seated others ahead of us for 15 minutes. We only got seated when I complained. Since our reservation was for 5:00 pm and they opened at 5:00 pm, I found this particularly unforgivable. Superb fare, as always, but the worst service I've ever experienced there. This place is the real deal for foodies and regular folk alike. I can't recommend it highly enough. Confident, relaxed but efficient service (my favorite kind). Fabulous food. I had the watermelon and heirloom tomato gazpacho and the fried artichoke tapas plate and could have gone home satisfied before the entree even arrived. The portions overall were larger than many fine dining places. Consider splitting if you are prone to finding yourself with too much food. I almost forgot the best part - all the selections are marked with vegan and gluten free indicators. This is not a vegan or health food restaurant but its so helpful for those of us with food sensitivities. I'll definitely be back.

I've dined on the bistro side multiple times with the upmost satisfaction. Quality of service, food, and price are all too fantastic. With that being said, I was disappointed by the service and food-to-price ratio on the restaurant side. I will be fair to the server who helped us, as it was clearly apparent he was busy. Being a server myself, I noticed quickly that he was one of TWO servers on the floor, with not much help from the support staff. I do not blame him for being unaccommodating to our table, as he apologized multiple times. However, if that is any indication of how their scheduling is, I rate it a 2. Our food was decent, and the serving size left my guest and myself wanting more. For future diners, stick to the bistro.

My husband and I wanted to celebrate our anniversary with a nice dinner. I told him to pick a place, expecting something fancy-schmancy. I was surprised when he chose Terrapin, since we go there at least once each season for dinner. His reason was: we always love the food and the service is terrific. The night we went the place was almost full, with several large groups which were taking a long time celebrating between courses. Our server, Peter, and the other servers did their best, but there was some difficulty getting the food out to both the large tables and the smaller ones at the same time. Several other members of the wait staff cheerfully pitched in, even the hostess, not unusual at Terrapin - excellent friendly service.

The Restaurant was beautiful.. the waitress was super nice.. the food was "fine". Drinks are always expensive... no mater where you go.. they gave us a little comp. bread which was fine.. the service was fast. and again the food was "fine". We spent $110 for dinner.. it took maybe an hour.. and while it was nice.. it didn't really wow me. I knew the place was pricey and that's cool, i was just hoping it came thru with some really amazing food. Again.. it was fine, but nothing you could not get at a more middle of the road restaurant.

Most of the choices we made were excellent, and some surprisingly so. One, a corn chowder unlike the usual pedestrian corn chowders, was really extraordinary, as was the fried artichoke appetizer. The only sour note was that my spouse's berry cake had very few berries; a minor point, but very disappointing to my wife. Overall, an excellent meal.

The best thing about this restaurant is that it is virtually the only decent place in the area that serves late in the evening, convenient for patrons of nearby music festival. I had some of the tapas appetizers, which were terrific as well as reasonably priced. This was less true of the main course, a plate of gnocchi alla caprese. The gnocchi were OK, but I was disappointed that canned sun-dried rather than fresh tomatoes (which grow lushly at nearby farms) were used. Also the dish, at over twenty dollars, seemed over-priced. But the selection of wines was goods. I was especially pleased by the availability of half-bottles of Brunello di Montalcino, which I ordered an enjoyed. The decor is pleasant and there is no loud music.

Even with the great reviews that led us to Terrapin for dinner, our evening there exceeded expectations. Each dish was fabulous. We were a group of four and each had all three courses and were hard pressed to pick favorite dishes. Every appetizer was amazing and I really enjoyed my duck Quesadilla. The stuffed figs with salad were great too. The duck entrée was sensational and my tiramisu dessert is still bringing a smile to my face a few days later. Our server gave us great advice as we struggled with making hard choices for our menu selections along with wonderful suggestions for wine and beer pairings.

Had a wonderful dinner on Saturday evening. The only thing that could have been improved...it took a little too long for our server to ask if wanted coffee and desert. We must have waited 20 or so minutes; not a big issue though. The only other minor thing was that I had asked to have the rest of my dinner wrapped and it never came back to the table. The staff are always well informed about the food items and of course the food is wonderful. I always enjoy being there...a great place.
