A word from Terramia
A true gem among all those rhinestones in the North End, this rustic but cozy trattoria with stucco walls and beamed ceilings specializes in creative interpretations of Italian classics.
Behind Terramia's pane-windowed storefront on Salem Street is a busy trattoria decked out in linens, candlelight and paintings of the Italian countryside. Like the cuisine here, the atmosphere is elegant yet understated. Since opening in 1993, Terramia has aimed to convince North End diners that there was always more to Italian food than red sauce. Over the Years, the inventive and beloved restaurant has done a great deal of convincing. You'll find creative interpretations of seasonally-based classics here.
The ever-changing menu incorporates seasonal vegetables and the catch of the day. Homemade pasta dishes feature unconventional preparation styles--ravioli is served open-faced, with scallops, shrimp and zucchini, in a lobster mascarpone sauce.

We had to wait 30 min past our reservation time, and they put us at a table literally in the wait station. Food was just ok (at best) for being north end. Our waiter wasn't very good. Took our order but didn't come back after the food arrived. I would have loved another drink, since I had an empty glass almost the whole time our food was there. And the bathroom was a disaster. Overflowing garbage can onto the floor. Just messy all around. We had really high hopes for this restaurant. It was our anniversary dinner, but at least it was memorable I suppose

Love the restaurants on Salem street, so much quainter than Hanover Street. This is a darling corner restaurant with warm friendly staff, nice selection of foods, not too much not too little not too expensive too. Make reservations as there was line out the door by 7:30 on a Saturday night.

We recently dined at Terramia on a lovely Saturday for an early dinner in Boston. This little (15 table) restaurant was delightful. The food was delicious and although our water glass was constantly refilled our waiter neglected to ask about refills of wine! Waitstaff was more interested in being outside and on their cell phones or the computer rather than caring for the five tables that were occupied. Not a huge wine list by the glass but enough to choose from. Lots of specials but we went with items off the menu..yummy!

It was our second time in Terramia in 4 years and the second time didn't disappoint! Our waiter Andy was very nice and offered us a good wine, but on top of everything: the food!!! Wow, we had the "raviolone aperto" which was a giant open fresh ravioli with shrimps and scallops (both huge) in a sublime lobster mascarpone sauce, for just 25$. Simply the best pasta dish I've had in years. The polpette were great but were a large portion (small appetites beware). Finally the pasta of the day were also delicious. Great, great food spot. We will definitely go back on our next time in Boston. Thank you Terramia!

My husband took me on our first official date to Terramia 7 years ago and it's still one of our absolute favorite spots. It is such a neighborhood gem in the north end where so many other spots can be tourist traps. The owner sonny, greets you and checks on you throughout the night, and he is the sweetest little Italian man. The wine list is amazing, our waiter recommended a chianti that was fabulous. It's a must try for date night!!

My husband's chicken Marsala was bland and didn't have the marsala wine flavor that is characteristic of the dish. The side of pasta with a red tomato sauce was the same, rather bland. There was no cheese, salt or pepper on the table. With 1 waiter, he was so busy, there was barely an opportunity to ask for anything. I had spaghetti carbonara which was very flavorful. My soup was also good. The whole restaurant filled up with reservations while we were there. Every table was in various stages of their meals, from just ordering to salads to main courses. After feeling kind of ignored, we were brought the check without being asked if we wanted dessert. I would say that if you have another restaurant you are considering, go for it.

Wife decided to drag me out tonight and I'm glad she did. Not that big into trying new places but this place my have changed my mind. We started with there crispy artichoke dish and carpaccio both were very flavorful and I could've eaten another plate of each (perfect touch with crispy garlic on the carpaccio) I ordered the pasta special which was a house made Truffle gnocchi with shortrib in a smoked Gorgonzola cream sauce OMG !!!!! Best pasta I have ever ever eaten. (Award Winning) seriously. My wife got then rabbit cacciatore special which was also amazing but I could off died and have been happy with just mine. all day long I been craving this dish, probably calling to pick one up to go later today hmmm.. Service was great.

We have been to this restaurant several times over the years. We've always had a wonderful experience and thought the food was exceptional. Our 3 courses, fried artichokes, carbonara and pork osso bucco were all disappointing. All lacked flavor and additions (i.e. pepper, parmesan) were never offered. If I were rating on a Zagat scale, we probably would have given this recent meal at most a 20. Just 3 yrs. ago, Zagat rated them 29. What's going on?

Just got back from my trip to Italy and wanted to continue it a little longer so we went to Boston's North End. Came across this tucked away little place on Salem st to escape the clutter on Hanover. And Wow we were so happy we did. The bistecca carpaccio & artichokes were amazing. Then we had the carbonara with smoked pancetta was super delicious & Orrececitte special with rabbit sausage was very impressive. And they sent out a complimentary tirimisu & Lemcello which topped the night off perfectly This place was perfect in every way and a must go to for old school feel. The decor needs a little work but everything else hit the mark.

When we first arrived it had some tables the ambience was very nice, beginning service was great very accommodating. However the food is just not good. I ordered a double cut pork chop it came one bone and very dry, my dates spaghetti did not twirl the pasta would break. When rallying up the bill they tacked on 20% instead of normal 18% for groups larger than 6. We paid in cash and two of us only had cards so we split the difference. Specifically showed the server the cards. He was ok server we were going to tip more until he charged the wrong transaction to each card. Again that was fixable except we were the only people in there and we have to wave him over twice as he sat one table away sipping wine and ignoring us. Again it was eh!!!!!!

The prices were way too high for what you got. The food was good, but the seafood was over cooked. Just way too expensive when compared against many other restaurant experiences. The whole feel of the north end has changed and the trend to restaurants that have gotten away from the homemade simple Italian dishes. In the end it is still pasta , but it is priced way too high. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Our starter of bread and olive oil/tapenade that was brought to our table -AMAZING. Our referred (upon request) Italian white was exceptional. Our waiter was world class. We were taken care of beyond expectations. Our dishes (seafood pasta red sauce specials) were very authentic Italian home made dishes. Spiced very nicely. I would have preferred my linguini a bit more el dente, but I'm being not picky here. We enjoyed our dinner very much.

I haven't been to Terramia in many years and always held fond memories of dinners there in the past. This time around I was a bit let down. Nothing on the menu was noteworthy. There weren't many interesting wines by the glass available, the appetizers were flat, but the dinner was actually bad. I had their signature dish open face ravioli with seafood. The seafood was cooked to little solid rock hard chunks- and the sauce was bland. It was a bummer return. I won't be coming back soon.
