A word from Terramia
A true gem among all those rhinestones in the North End, this rustic but cozy trattoria with stucco walls and beamed ceilings specializes in creative interpretations of Italian classics.
Behind Terramia's pane-windowed storefront on Salem Street is a busy trattoria decked out in linens, candlelight and paintings of the Italian countryside. Like the cuisine here, the atmosphere is elegant yet understated. Since opening in 1993, Terramia has aimed to convince North End diners that there was always more to Italian food than red sauce. Over the Years, the inventive and beloved restaurant has done a great deal of convincing. You'll find creative interpretations of seasonally-based classics here.
The ever-changing menu incorporates seasonal vegetables and the catch of the day. Homemade pasta dishes feature unconventional preparation styles--ravioli is served open-faced, with scallops, shrimp and zucchini, in a lobster mascarpone sauce.

Terramia was a good family dining spot in the North End. Small, maybe 10 tables. Could have used an additional waiter, the server was a little rushed. We had one of the two tables by the window. Osso Buco good, veal good. Nice wines by the glass. Would go again.

We have been to this restaurant several times over the years. We've always had a wonderful experience and thought the food was exceptional. Our 3 courses, fried artichokes, carbonara and pork osso bucco were all disappointing. All lacked flavor and additions (i.e. pepper, parmesan) were never offered. If I were rating on a Zagat scale, we probably would have given this recent meal at most a 20. Just 3 yrs. ago, Zagat rated them 29. What's going on?

Just got back from my trip to Italy and wanted to continue it a little longer so we went to Boston's North End. Came across this tucked away little place on Salem st to escape the clutter on Hanover. And Wow we were so happy we did. The bistecca carpaccio & artichokes were amazing. Then we had the carbonara with smoked pancetta was super delicious & Orrececitte special with rabbit sausage was very impressive. And they sent out a complimentary tirimisu & Lemcello which topped the night off perfectly This place was perfect in every way and a must go to for old school feel. The decor needs a little work but everything else hit the mark.

Lots has changed in this north end but Terramia has always been pumping out good food. I'm a resident of the North End so I know pretty much all the spots and this is Definitly one of them. Ate here the other night and had such a great meal, food was out of this world. Crispy artichokes & lob fritters so good, split a rigatoni with Kobe meatballs and sausages. So good lots of food, pork bucco and there filet with lobster butter nice lil play on a surf and turf. Very good will Definitly be back.

When we first arrived it had some tables the ambience was very nice, beginning service was great very accommodating. However the food is just not good. I ordered a double cut pork chop it came one bone and very dry, my dates spaghetti did not twirl the pasta would break. When rallying up the bill they tacked on 20% instead of normal 18% for groups larger than 6. We paid in cash and two of us only had cards so we split the difference. Specifically showed the server the cards. He was ok server we were going to tip more until he charged the wrong transaction to each card. Again that was fixable except we were the only people in there and we have to wave him over twice as he sat one table away sipping wine and ignoring us. Again it was eh!!!!!!

The prices were way too high for what you got. The food was good, but the seafood was over cooked. Just way too expensive when compared against many other restaurant experiences. The whole feel of the north end has changed and the trend to restaurants that have gotten away from the homemade simple Italian dishes. In the end it is still pasta , but it is priced way too high. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Our starter of bread and olive oil/tapenade that was brought to our table -AMAZING. Our referred (upon request) Italian white was exceptional. Our waiter was world class. We were taken care of beyond expectations. Our dishes (seafood pasta red sauce specials) were very authentic Italian home made dishes. Spiced very nicely. I would have preferred my linguini a bit more el dente, but I'm being not picky here. We enjoyed our dinner very much.

I haven't been to Terramia in many years and always held fond memories of dinners there in the past. This time around I was a bit let down. Nothing on the menu was noteworthy. There weren't many interesting wines by the glass available, the appetizers were flat, but the dinner was actually bad. I had their signature dish open face ravioli with seafood. The seafood was cooked to little solid rock hard chunks- and the sauce was bland. It was a bummer return. I won't be coming back soon.

My husband and I didn't want to go to our regular spot in the North End of Boston so we decided to try Terramia. The food is prepared to order. Our appetizers were roasted artichokes and a cheese plate. Both were very delicious. When we were in Italy last year, we loved the roasted artichokes and found that our palates brought us back to that memory. Then we split the Pasta Bolognese. I believe it's one of their signature dishes. The special fish of the night was Chilean Sea Bass and it was prepared perfectly. My husband ordered the linguini and clams and wishes it was not like a soup but more of a sauce but still very good. We definitely will dine here again.

This was our third or fourth time dining at Terramia. It continues to be excellent and a treat, even though I sometimes get the same entrée. There are always so many great selections that it is hard to choose but everything is consistently wonderful. My one complaint is, like so many other restaurants, the server mentions the specials but does not tell what the price is unless he or she is asked. It is my feeling that I should not have to ask the prices as they should be specified when the special is described.

My son and I and his mother-in-law from out of town, came here to dinner on a recommendation from a friend of mine. We were seated immediately, although we were 40 minutes early, and the service was prompt and unobtrusive, which allowed us to catch up. Dinner was superb. I started with the lobster fritters, which were deep fried, but somehow still tasted healthy. Followed that with open-face ravioli which didn't skimp on the shrimp and scallops.

There signature pasta dish for mid course which is an open face style ravioli filled with shrimp and scallops in a lobster marscapone Wow !! A Homerun !! , Bass special with sweet corn and chard leek risotto , veal chop which was the best I've ever had EVER!! And we did have enough room for the Warm Flourless Choc Torte super chocolaty and delicious. Will Definitly recommend to others and 100% will be back. This place was recommended to us and we tried it. It was ok/ good. I say this because compared to the dozens of other italian restaurants in the north end of Boston this doesn't quite hold the same candle with ambiance and selection. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad just not to the level of other italian eaterys we have visited here over the past 8 years. My dish which was opened face raviolas with shrimp and scallops was very ingenious and the sauce was very good but the shell fish was over cooked to dryness. The menu had good recipes but very limited selection. Our waiter Andy was excellant, prompt and attentive with a british accent. That's different for being in the predominantly italian north end.

A wonderful culinary experience for foodies. Very small, intimate setting. The waiters and maitre'd were constantly in motion and were extremely friendly, polite, and helpful. The entire meal was excellent in appearance, quality of ingredients, of course, taste. We had oysters and antipasto to begin. Bucatini alla Amatriciana and Raviolone Aperto were our main dishes (both with fresh, homemade pasta). The tiramisu and the chocolate torte are both a 'must have' desert. We were able to chat with the chef at the end of our meal - a real treat. The whole area is a major tourist attraction; yet sitting in this restaurant made you feel as though you were away from 'the maddening crowd'. This is what a restaurant in the North End should be.
