A word from Terramae
You might be wondering what an Appalachian Bistro is.

It"s a culinary celebration of the flavors loved from the peaks of Maine to the foothills of Tennessee and Georgia. From seafood to elk to chicken and more----all accompanied by farm fresh vegetables--It's as local and fresh as we can get it.

Did we say the unfamiliar? Definitely! But it's all from mother earth in our unique and creative way.

Diner Reviews
  • "This place is a true find. The food is "modern Appalachian" which defies description except to say that it involves a innovative use of basic foodstuff from the Southern Appalachian region. Try the Blue Cheese Pimento cheese and you will know what I mean. "

  • "We were just visiting Chattanooga and found this restaurant on OpenTable and it made our night. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was lovely and the service was impeccable. We sat outside, which was a wonderfully cool evening and really enjoyed it; however the view from the patio looks out onto an alley. Not the most scenic, but it certainly did not ruin our otherwise wonderful evening. "

  • "Date night supper! App courses shared, appitizers; surf and swine, shrimp and pork belly atop tarragon creamed corn and deep fried oysters with BBQ sauce, both were quite amazing. I had bacon wrapped scallops and my friend had steak! Again both entrees were AMAZING. The scallops were golden brown and a creamy inside texture and were served atop crab risotto. The steak was cooked perfectly as ordered. The only criticism is the potatoes with the steak... Good but too pedestrian for otherwise outstanding food! Definitely a return visit is in order!"

  • "Excellent restaurant with a vibrant bar scene. Very eclectic menu and the execution was superb. The winter bounty salad with a mix of winter and spring vegetables was one of the best salads we ever had. The surf and swine appetizer was highlighted by a garnish of roasted cherry tomatoes that came with it as a garnish. For entrees, my wife had a scallop dish and I had halibut over pasta with a cream sauce. The entrees were every bit as good as the appetizers. The wine list was extensive, with a decent selection of fairly priced wines. This restaurant can compete favorably with most of the restaurants we have been to all over the country. I can't believe there is a better restaurant in Chattanooga."

  • "After an hour we only had been served a salad....only 3 in the kitchen which seemed to be struggling to get food out. However, when they did get food to the table, it was executed perfectly. The only dish that didn't resonate was a country ham stuffed ravioli....great concept but lacked a bit of acidity and ultimately was too salty from the ham for my taste."

  • "This was the second time we dined here and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The Resturant was almost empty which made me sad .I began with fried oysters topped with a bit of blue cheese.it was very good.i wish the oysters had not been fried. then,we had Halibet which was very good.the menu said with lump crabmeat, corn. it had maybe two little lumps. The fish was cooked perfectly. However, the skin on the fish was soggy. We love the skin left on when crispy, but take it off if it's soggy. All in all ,it was a very enjoyable dinner. We will be back.!"

  • "It was a girls' trip to celebrate a birthday and I wanted a restaurant that would be memorable. Terramae did not disappoint from the moment we walked in. The decor is a comfortable mix of outdoors and modern, the staff friendly and the food outstanding. In fact , everything we ordered tasted as good as the "picture perfect" shots we took of our plates. We said how we would enjoy sharing the experience with husbands."

  • "What a great addition to the dining scene in Chattanooga. The craft cocktail menu with original creations is world-class. The drink I ordered, Go Down, Moses had about six ingredients and it was fascinating watching the bartender make it. I hadn't heard of most of the ingredients before, including Cynar, an artichoke liquer from Italy! The food is outstanding. This is my second time and the menu is completely different because it changes seasonally which is wonderful. Tonight I had pork cheeks for an appetizer (sounds gross but was actually delicious), buttermilk soup (yummy) and the main course was a filet which was outstanding. I topped off the meal with strawberry and chocolate bread pudding which thankfully had no raisins in it!"

  • "During a recent visit to Chattanooga, We dined at a wonderful restaurant, Terremae. The evening was a birthday celebration, a romantic escape and a time to share a meal with the man I love. I saw an appetizer pass by and was fascinated....I ordered it because it looked interesting. It did not disappoint..the waiter aptly named the treat the "Aircraft Carrier of Delights". Bacon cured with cayenne pepper, brown sugar and topped with sesame seeds, pimento cheese with blue cheese mixed with the traditional cheddar, pickled okra and cucumbers, shrimp with fennel salad and deviled eggs topped with fennel fronds were all delicious and delightful! Add some craft beer and a Rhett Butler cocktail and you have the perfect evening. Thanks!"

  • "This farm to table restaurant has managed to do it all...good food, great atmosphere using locally sourced ingredients. I had the bison steak, my wife had the trout. Both entrees and side items were cooked to order. The waiter even brought out a sample to help my wife make her decision. The walnut pie for dessert was a big hit as well. Kudos to the staff and management for a fantastic dining experience!"

  • "Sorry to say my visit to Terramae was not what I expected. I thought it would be more casual and the food would be more "home made tasting." First of all I notice it was more uptown hip....the food was not tasty, extremely salty, and the mix of spices added to the dishes was way off course, and in my opinion ruined what should have been a delicious straight forward dish. Why ruin something like fried green tomatoes with all that salt and other "stuff" that added to it, and why ruin a chicken salad sandwich with all that watery & overly spiced sauce you poured over it....I couldn't event taste the chicken."

  • "The atmosphere is nice-a little mismatched, but we still really enjoyed it. Overall the food was pretty good, I had the vegetable plate which had a very tasty stuffed pepper, but the asparagus was stringy (great flavor though). My husband had scallops which were very rich and a bit salty; he enjoyed them though for the most part. Our dessert of bread pudding was tasty-it almost had a French toast feel which I really enjoyed. We enjoyed several nice drinks also. I would certainly go back!"

  • "It's slightly hard to find because the signs aren't large enough. We arrived about 45 min before our reservations and were seated promptly. The menu is eclectic and slightly ever changing. The service was excellent and the food was tasty. The tables were a tad crowded. The temperature in the room was just right and the ambiance was quiet and cozy. I would only dine there again for a special occasion."

  • "This was our first dining experience at Terramae and we were not disappointed. The two of us shared the crispy oyster appetizer and, as oyster lovers, decided that this was the best we had ever had. It was so light and flavorful. My husband had the pork chop perfectly prepared, I had scallops...excellent! The evening was made even more special by our server, Steve, who has the perfect personality for such a demanding job. We will be back and will bring friends so that they might enjoy this "best kept little secret": Terramae."

  • "Everything about our meal was wonderful! We were a party of four. We were each very pleased with our meal choices. Every part of the meal was delicious - the main item plus the accompanying sides. Dessert was heavenly. Will definitely come back for a special-occasion dinner."

  • "This was our 3rd trip to Terramae, the previous 2 being very good. The dinner menu was a coursing style, which we had no idea about when we booked the reservation. Looking at the menu it really wasn't what we had in mind for a typical Valentine's dinner (we prefer to have choices). We decided to stay and try it, since that was the only menu of the evening. Through the experience I found the food to be very bland, basic and not worth the $85 per person price. For that amount of money I would expect to have some type of interchangeable items if you preferred. As we were eating, we saw numerous tables get up leave because they were unaware of this menu as well, or simply didn't like the choices. Overall, overpriced and won't be back!"

  • "We get reservations on Open Table at least once a week. I put that information in because the restaurants that use Open Table are unique and good food is good food. We waited quite a while before our waitress came by to ask if we wanted a starter. My wife wanted to try the poached chicken soup. Before the soup came out, we were given oysters as the amuse-bouche. I really like raw oysters but not these. The soup was bitter and had a strong flowery taste. I got the steak and it was good. The twice-baked potato was the best part of the meal but it was small. My wife's roasted chicken was very dry. When we finished eating, we waited 20 minutes before I took my credit card out and put it on the table."

  • "1) Had reservation but they were about 30 minutes behind which I understood 2) Was never offered drink refills (including my wine) which I did not understand 3) My food was mediocre at best, although the other person in my party enjoyed their food. 4) The restaurant was quite busy, however the staff seemed more concerned with how busy of a night they were having. Many members of the staff walked by ignoring our empty drinks and our apparent displeasure. 5) The wait time was unacceptable. We ordered our drinks then waiting another 15 minutes to order our food. Once ordered, our food did not arrive for app. 35-40 minutes. I was very much looking forward to dining at Terramae, but left with a bad taste in my mouth."

  • "Terramae is by far the best restaurant in the city. The Chef is phenomenal, and she genuinely cares about every dish that is prepared in her kitchen. Every time I dine at Terramae, the food is more impressive than it was during my previous visit. The wait staff are all very polite, knowledgeable, and are always there when you need them and never there when you don't. The restaurant has a calm, peaceful atmosphere that encourages one to unwind."

  • "We went here hoping to have a nice night out as we don't get them very often. Unfortunately, the experience did not make it very enjoyable. Here is the short version on service...had to ask for water three times, after finishing our glass of wine we ever never asked if we wanted another glass, our entrees were brought out after we had barely been given our appetizers and then when we finished our appetizers they never took the plates, we were never asked about coffee or an after dinner drink with our dessert. As for the food...the appetizers were AMAZING, the loaded lobster bisque was out of this world, the entrees were so-so, steak was overcooked and scallops were not cleaned enough, dessert was okay. All in all...not worth the money!"

  • "We went to Terramae for the first time on Friday. The staff was friendly, and atmosphere was elegant. The surrounding eaters were a bit older than I would have expected. Terramae had a prixe fixed meal that day. Unfortunately there was only one normal menu and one vegetarian menu. Since I don't enjoy lobster or door gras I was kind of cornered into the vegetarian option. For the $85 price tag, I feel like I could definitely have had a better meal. The first course with the strawberry was lacking, the soup was watery at best, good pear salad, loved the pasta and the mushroom ragu needed more sauce. Dessert was dry and only certain ladies I noticed were given roses at the end. I wish I had five courses of just the salad and ravioli."

  • "wonderful Valentine's meal with my wife - each course was excellent. One of the most impressive things was how well the restaurant and staff worked on an incredibly busy evening; tables were turning without drama, food was timed well without being rushed, and the restaurant was set to create intimacy for couples even while making best use of space. With high quality food and wine/bar list, and lovely location and a very well trained staff, Terra Mae will impress any out-of-town guest and make any occasion special."

  • "Terra Mae is a great place to eat. The food is tasty and creative, the ambiance is lovely. I have been for brunch and dinner and received reasonably good service. When you are having brunch or dinner you are generally fine with a leisurely dining pace. Most recently I was there for lunch and while the food came out relatively quickly, and the server was polite, it seemed to us she had too much to do, or assumed we were not in any sort of hurry. And, while we weren't in a hurry, the thing we waited longest for was our check, which seems sort of silly."
