A word from Terramae
You might be wondering what an Appalachian Bistro is.

It"s a culinary celebration of the flavors loved from the peaks of Maine to the foothills of Tennessee and Georgia. From seafood to elk to chicken and more----all accompanied by farm fresh vegetables--It's as local and fresh as we can get it.

Did we say the unfamiliar? Definitely! But it's all from mother earth in our unique and creative way.

  • "Decided to try something new for amnniversy. We 'll be back as regulars. The food was a wonderful surprise and the service was warm and friendly. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and made great recommendations. Cocktail menu very interesting but we didn't explore it this night. The deserts were unique but down home at the same time. Make sure you leave room. This was a great find and we look forward to returning."

  • "We had a wonderful mini vacation w/ night at the Stone Fort Inn and dinner at Terramae. Service was attentive, the drink and wine lists were interesting, and the food was well prepared, presented beautifully, and delicious."

  • "Attention Beer Drinkers: There is only 1 draught beer and about 8-10 bottle selections. You may not find this enough to satisfy your beer desires. The wine list and cocktail selection was superb but for those of you that want a nice beer with your meal, pickins are slim. The food was amazing and service too. No issues there. Ambiance was also very small, cozy and quaint."

  • "Attractive setting. Our waiter was extremely kind, informative, and attentive. Food was very good however they did not have enough scallops for 3 orders at our table. The filet was outstanding. We had 3 different appetizers The Surf and swine was amazing! Great flavor.. The bacon wrapped scallops were good but the corn and crab risotto which is usually fantastic was lukewarm flavor good but not hot enough for me. The Painted Hills Beef tenderloin was great! The black garlic steak sauce was incredible. My husband thought his Rabbit Special was excellent (special for that night). We had 2 desserts and the best was The bread pudding was some of the best I have ever had. You can not be in a hurry. Everything cooked to order."

  • "My wife and I dine out together relatively often at the end of the week. She is an excellent cook and she utilizes the wonderful produce from our large vegetable garden to create wonderful meals. In addition, I travel almost weekly on business, which results in me dining out a great deal through the week. We like to be "wowed" when we dine out. Terramae definitely takes a fresh look at our southern heritage incorporating both traditional and non traditional food ingredients. Along with the ingenious combinations, the presentation is quite stunning. Service is first class from the entrance to the departure. A great dining jewel for Chattanooga."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurant a in Chattanooga. Always a go to when we have out of town guests. The food is excellent and the seasonal variety give even a regular something new to try."

  • "The drinks were very creative and highlighted all kinds of booze and interesting ingredients. The food was delicious and the building is beautiful. Our server was great. We got a couple small plates and an entree so we could try more, i think that's the ways to go because everything on the menu looks good. It was also not too noisy but pretty full by the time we left, i dont know if thats is because of the people in the crowd or if the space is acoustically quiet."

  • "Nice place for the occasion. A family dining together whom rarely see each other, no one rushed us to leave and noise level allowed conversation. Everyone was happy with their food, and it was presented beautifully. Scallops had a good taste, but smelled fishy as did the squash blossoms."

  • "Another great meal. I have eaten at Terramae several times and I have not been disappointed one time! Excellent food and service. I am able to take my children and sit on the outside patio so we don't bother the other diners."

  • "My husband and I have been 3 times. Each experience has been flawless. The food is mouth watering. Drinks are perfectly crafted. Dessert is not to be missed. The walnut pie is my favorite. The service is impeccable. I can't say enough about this restaurant. I look forward to our next visit."

  • "We celebrated our 20th anniversary with dinner here and it was fabulous. The weeknight crowd was smaller and the food and drinks and service and ambiance delivered. My wife told me she felt the most relaxed during dinner that she had in years, due in large part to the quiet surroundings, solid but not too invasive service and nice music (soft alternative). The restaurant even comped a dessert in recognition of our anniversary, which was unexpected and appreciated. Highly recommended!"

  • "Our visit was to celebrate our 37th anniversary. Food was excellent. The flavors and choices of selected fresh foods were incredible. We have lived here in Chattanooga since 1977 and I have to say it was one of the best if not the best I have ever. Price is reasonable and the portions were good for us. The cocktail drink selections are incredible. Waitress was very knowledge of menu and cocktails and you could tell she had eaten the foods and had done her homework. This is important. Overall solid A. As crowd moved in the noise level was increasing, but not bad. Would suggest calling ahead."

  • "Celebrating birthday....My husband and I were set next to the kitchen. There were plenty of other seats around and did not make any sense to seat a couple there trying to have a romantic dinner. Ordered a $40.00 bottle of wine that came with a screw cap, no cork...did not taste good at all. The organic chicken entree and the bread were good but nothing else was including the dessert. Most expensive meal we have ever had and was so not worth it. Nobody was rude, but the service was not what you would expect for a $150.00 meal,,,we were so disappointed."

  • "Food is outstanding, hands down...but, when we arrived and asked for a better table after having advance reservations and the restaurant being fairly empty, a waiter copped an attitude - very ungracious. At a restaurant of this caliber, there is simply no excuse for surly behavior. That being said, our waiter was competent, but became a little harried once it became busier. Long wait for the food, although one could argue it was worth the wait. And, of course, prices in the stratosphere. The bar has better ambiance than the dining room and the outside looks onto what appeared to be a utility alley with no attempt to add character. Despite the fabulous food, I will probably not return to dine. The attitude is a deal breaker for me."

  • "I was visiting friends in Chattanooga and decided to go to a "fancy" dinner on my last night there. The food and service were excellent. Two of us had the scallops in bacon and a friend had the Monday moonshine special! Everything was great! The food was well prepared with various flavors of interest. I would highly recommend to locals as well as those visiting."

  • "I've eaten here twice now when visiting Chattanooga and am really impressed with the food. Whoever is in the kitchen understands preparation because everything I've eaten has been quite outstanding. I regularly visit town for business and have eaten at many of the downtown restaurants and this may be the best one for the quality of the cuisine. My only constructive comment is that the wine list is quite poor - filled with one-offs. E.g., just random producers, especially in the Rhone, Burgundy and Bdx section, where my years of experience collecting wine provide me with no assistance or roadmap for making choices. Everything is a "flyer" and tasted accordingly. But still a first-rate food experience."

  • "Every time I have been to Terra Mae, the servers have been very friendly and the food has been outstanding. The menu changes regularly, so you never know what you might find!!! Many of the dishes seem to combine ingredients that traditionally one would think might not work together, but somehow they always manage to make the food DELICIOUS!!! Great Food, Atmosphere, and People!!! Highly Recommended!!!"

  • "We went there last week for Father's Day. We booked the reservation for 11:30 a.m. My husband and I wanted to eat brunch and the kids just the traditional lunch. Unfortunately they only had 1 menu -a brunch menu. The kids did not have any choices other than what was on the adult brunch menu...The food was good, the price fair. The mimosas definitely the best, very strong. The service was very slow. Would go back for dinner, definitely without the kids!"

  • "We had high hopes based on some reviews and the food did not disappoint. Our server was friendly and professional when he came by but he was too busy taking care of a large table to really do a good job. We waited a long time for our drinks and then they came at the same time as our starters. Then our server seemed to actually disappear for awhile. For the price I want all three things to be top notch - food, service, and environment/space - or I will go elsewhere next time. And unfortunately Terramae just didn't stack up for my husband and I."

  • "We had a great meal at Terramae. The surf and swine app was delicious, although the pork belly was tough. The garden bounty salad also was wonderful. We had the scallops and whole bass for entrees, both were very good. The service was good, our server for the most part knowledgeable and attentive. We will be back!"

  • "Pros Great location, Nice atmosphere, Incredible food!, nice décor, Cons, friendly servers but were kind of slow. Not sure if they had too many tables (managers fault) but regardless it would be nice not to have to wait 15 minutes for a drink or if asking for condiments bread or whatever... "

  • "This was our second visit and we continue to be so very impressed. Ashton, our server, has taken such great care of us on both visits. She's there when we need her and leaves us be otherwise. The dishes are beautiful no doubt, but the true joy lies in the eating. Brilliant! And so very good. We have decided that this is our place and will be for a long time! "

  • "9 plates with nary a miss...great hostess and prompt coursing....this was our best chattanooga restaurant experience lately...even the soft shell crab was superb, and there aren't many who do it well...collard green casserole a definite yummy side...soups fantastic....oh, and received an amuse bouche tonight that was a perfect bite of halibut concoction....chef Shelley cooper deserves more accolades/recognition... She has a great palate"

  • "Had Mother's Day's Brunch and the place was very busy. Were seated right away but seated a table for 4 but we were a party of 5. At the table was a napkin and just a knife no other flatware and a glass for ice water, had to ask the server for forks once were received are first course. The food was delicious, but the services was slow. Odd no bread plate for the bread and sweet pastries with jam and butter that was placed in the middle of our table....crumbs everywhere. The rest of our meal was delicious. I've been to TerraMae many times before for dinner and always had a excellent dinner and services..."

  • "Appreciate the striving for innovative dishes but small improvements could make this restaurant more successful. Nice selection choice in each of two course headings. Salmon tartlet was very good, but my short ribs were overcooked and the potatoes served with it were burned. The dessert would have been yummy but the marshmallow filling was allowed to cool making it rubbery to eat. Also, noticed grounds in my coffee floating on top with original pour and refill. Our server was very attentive to our every need. Want this restaurant to succeed but they need to pay more attention to detail."

  • "I had heard spectacular things about this restaurant and had made reservations a month or so in advance for the Mother's Day Brunch. The restaurant itself is very beautiful, but that is about all I can say for it. We were seated at a table 4 feet from the open kitchen and it was liking eating in the middle of the interstate. I have a degree in interior design and I can tell you that an upscale restaurant should never be laid out in this way. At $45/person for brunch I don't want to fell like I am sitting at the counter at Waffle House. We were a party of four and all ordered different things. The food was all server lukewarm and was really very average in taste. "

  • "Over $200 for a meal, and no forks. We were served spoons to cut a dessert that was so hard and chewy that we should have been provided a knife. While the quality of the individual dishes is strong, it is shocking to see such poor wait service. What's worse: these dinners have been for special occasions. I should not have to apologize to other guests about the lack of silverware. On our first visit, we had to wait 55 minutes before the entree arrived. The waiter tried to stall with an amouse-bouche. It didn't fool anybody. We don't drink. We're not going to sit there and wait for the same amount of time someone else would use to down a bottle of wine while the kitchen tries to get itself together. Overall: disappointing."

  • "They had a wonderful unique drinks and the food presentation was beautiful, but the kitchen took too long on our entrees. We were there for more than 2 hrs partially due to the wait."

  • "Everything we ordered from appetizer to sides to entrees were amazing. Only weakness was that it took about an hour to get our entrees. Otherwise service was good (not great)."

  • "We spent one night in Chattanooga and Terramae was recommended by a friend. This restaurant is elegant with it's earthy paint tones. It seems almost french colonial yet modern. I couldn't help noticing the lights hanging from the ceiling which depicted the interior style, a mix of contemporary sphere and candelabra. We started with the Appalachian lunch. This was an outstanding array of tastes from the spicy crunchy bacon in sesame seeds to the outstanding ham and scones. Then I had the vegetable dish which was an explosion of color and tastes.I never thought so much could be done with vegetables. The deserts definitely need consideration and the banana creme brulée and chocolate pound cake did not last long on our table.Don't miss out !"

  • "Terramae has become a favorite of ours. We love to get away from the kids for and go somewhere quiet to talk while having some excellent food and drinks. The menu is has diverse entrees. The appetizers are also diverse; good but pricey with small portions. Expect $12 for an appetizer and $28 for an entree. Dozens of specialty drinks are concocted of Terramae's infused liquors with an array of complementing tastes. Some are strange and some are quite good. I had their interpretation of a white russian that was quite unusual but good while my wife liked the drink that left an aftertaste of rose. The blueberry bread pudding is probably the best desert I have ever tasted. Online reservations are a breeze and early times (before 7:30) are easy."
